These photos are all from my last download, the trip away to Queensland for my yoga training, and trip back home again through Canberra. I really disliked the feeling of the Gold Coast, all new concrete structures, curving roads, curving buildings, curving roofs, no natural materials in sight. The “lakes” were dead-looking muddy water, far from tidal cleansing. Houses, buildings and paving covered the land (the original swamp lands were drained and converted in to man-made waterways and artificial islands for prestige housing) except for designated open space, where drainage canals doubled as “ponds” with water plants and a few birds. It feels horrible to me but obviously many people love it as it is Australia’s 6th most populous city. This post suits Cee’s Circles and Curves challenge perfectly!

Other curves in this post tell a little of my flying experiences, all very pleasant and peaceful, especially the flight from Gold Coast to Sydney when I was seated between two really lovely men, who chatted to me about their lives, and shared their lunch with me too …. since our pilot had to make his own fancy curves weaving inland to escape some huge storm cells powering along the coast. After our ballet moves through the air the seatbelt sign finally went off and food and water could be delivered by the staff, but only to those who had pre-ordered. In no time at all they were scuttling along the aisles gathering our rubbish as the plane came down to land at Sydney. The gentleman on my right excitedly showed me his house as we flew right over it, before doubling back to land in beautiful Sydney.

Interesting Forklift Facts and History A forklift is a hydraulic powered truck used to transport goo

Interesting Forklift Facts and History

A forklift is a hydraulic powered truck used to transport goods and materials. The first modern forklifts were made in the 1920′s by multiple companies. Two of them were Clark company and Yale & Town company. The way the lift works is by hydraulic systems that lift and lower your load easily.
There are many designs of forklifts available on the market, always evolving with the newest needs of the consumer. The standard is the hand pallet or pallet truck. This is used in stores and warehouses because it’s not driven and does not require special training to use like a forklift. Then there is the towing tractor, sod loader. The side loader is for longer loads that don’t fit on a standard pallet truck. The reach truck is designed for smaller areas with more height capabilities. They even now have explosion proof trucks which are used in industries that deal with any chemical, pharmaceutical, food, drink, or any other flammable material.
To keep up with the different needs of consumers there are some attachments available for forklifts. Some of the most common attachments used now include the side shifter. This is a hydraulic attachment which gives the operator the ability to move the forks laterally. Also prevents the need to have to position the truck differently in specific areas. If needed to move any large long tubes like a rolled up carpet, they have pole attachment available. The man basket is a basket that is attached to the forks and used to lift a person up to a specific height safely in order to load things separately off a pallet. Scales are also available and seem to be more widely purchased. If you need to weigh a pallet of materials, instead of having to load the pallet on the forklift, place it on the scale, remove forks from pallet so it’s stand alone on the scale, note the weight, then lift back up and bring back to where it needed to be, you can now attach the scale and pick up your pallet. It will weigh the materials while on the forklift and you can just place it where need be after weighed.
One of the most important things taught in the safety training is that if you place any attachments on your forklift, it will reduce the load allowance of the forklift. If you go over the load allowance with the attachments on it, you risk injury to yourself or others because forklifts will be off-load and can easily tip on turning. As always, maintain safety while operating any heavy machinery.

What is involved in the Forklift Test? What are they going to get me to do?

With regards to the Forklift Test, I will try and make it simple and easy to understand.

before an applicant can undertake a practical test they must have completed their structured training and also on the job training documented in a log book and signed off by a licenced Supervisor.

Think of the forklift test in three parts:

Element 1

Pre Operational Check of the Forklift Truck.

Inspection of the work site

identification of work site hazards and the selection of control measures

Checking controls on Equipment

Element 2

Operation of Forklift Truck, including the movement of various loads, pick up and placement of loads from low, medium and high level racking

Shifting & Stacking Loads

Loading and Unloading

Element 3

Correct shut down and parking procedure for Forklift Truck.

Securing the site

You will be asked some questions either during or after the assessment to establish the reasons for your decisions and actions.

Don’t be frightened as the assessor will use his / her discretion in assessing competence under each criteria.
