Congratulations to the Montgomery Catholic Varsity Boys basketball team for winning the 2009 Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Tournament.  With a 67 – 60 win over Lamp it marks the 2nd year in a row that the Catholic Knighs have been the champions of this tournament.

Catholic was lead by Tournament MVP Kenny Davison who had 29 points and 13 rebounds.  Graham Evans had 27 points and he electrified the crowd with 4 dunks.  Leonard Walker and Graham Evans were named to the All tournament team.

The knights are now 3 – o on season and our next game is Thursday Dec. 3rd at Highland Home.

Szenzációs magyar siker született a ligánóban rendezett kick-box vb-n – erről számol be az nso.hu

Vasárnapra is maradt egy magyar aranyérem. Lignanóban a WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) által megrendezett kick-box világbajnokság utolsó napján a mieink a csapatban is nyertek.

A Veres Richárd (63 kg), Gömbös László (69 kg), Mórádi Zsolt (79 kg), Jároszkievicz Krisztián (84 kg) Minda Zsófia (+70 kg) és Kondár Anna (70 kg) összeállítású magyar válogatott az olaszok együttesét győzte le a vb-döntőben.

A bronzérmet a britek és az írek szerezték meg.

A mieink így hat aranyat, három ezüstöt, és négy bronzot gyűjtöttek be Olaszországban, így elismerően nyilatkozott dr. Leyrer Richárd, a WAKO alelnöke, és egyben a magyar szövetség első embere a Nemzeti Sportszövetség Sajtószolgálatának.

„Megismételtük a hajdani sikereinket Lignanóban. Fantasztikus az, amit Király István szövetségi kapitány csinál. Bízom benne, hogy ebben a gazdasági helyzetben, amikor támogatási gondokkal küzd a sportág, egy ilyen eredménysorozat felkeltheti azok figyelmét, akik tudnak áldozni a magyar sportért. És itt nem százmilliókról van szó, hanem jóval kevesebbről.”

A sikereket hét versenyző még megfejelte azzal, hogy kvalifikálta magát a 2010-es pekingi Küzdősportok Világjátékára, ahol az olimpiai és a nem olimpiai sportágak legjobbjai lépnek küzdőtérre.

Lignanóban Veres Richárd, Gömbös László, Mórádi Zsolt, Jároszkievicz Krisztián, Szendrei Barbara, Minda Zsófia és Görbics Gábor szerzett indulási jogot a Küzdősportok Világjátékára.

The Varsity Boys basketball team won the opening round game v. Highland Home 69 to 53 in Knights Columbus Thanksgiving Tournament.  The Knights were led by Miles Jordan who had 23 points 5 steals 3 assists and 3 rebounds.  Jordan shot an amazing 77% from the field. 

Kenny Davison added with 13 ponts, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.  Graham Evans also chipped in with 12 Points.

Catholic improves to 2- o on seasnon and we will play LAMP in the Championship game on Saturday Nov. 27th at 7:30 PM at Catholic.

This is a fun script that I wrote last year, while the NBA Playoffs were running. It utilizes VB to automatically open an instance of Microsoft Word and populates it with the LA Lakers logo. The best part about this script is that you don’t have to direct it to choose an image that is saved on the local computer (although you can use a local path); I chose to direct it to a website that is hosting the logo. i love discovering things like this!

Thanksgiving Day- One out of 365
As we all are getting ready for the "big turkey day", let us not forget
 what history and the Bible has taught us about "thanksgiving". Today,
 how much do we really take this day at it's true meaning?  According
to Dictionary.come, the definition is :1.     the act of giving thanks;
 grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favours, esp. to God.2  an
expression of thanks, esp. to God.3.         a public celebration in
acknowledgement of divine favour or kindness 4.   a day set apart for
giving thanks to God.
Do you notice a certain theme in this definition? Of course! It puts
God at the center of the table, not an overstuffed, overpriced, stupid
(yes, I said stupid), bird.
For the history buffs, you may know that the "first thanksgiving" was
in 1623. It was celebrated after a 2 year drought by settlers to our
continent called "Separatists"(they did not call themselves pilgrims),
and the local Massasoit culture that they found there. For years
following this, many thanksgivings were celebrated on favourable and
unfavourable occasions. They were not days for partying and gossip,
but were considered church going events. They gathered in prayer
always, and fasted for the unfortunate situations.  Fasting and
thanksgiving could hardly be considered today in one thought, much
less action. But so it was for a traditional thanksgiving..
In 1846, Sarah Joseph Hale thought it ought to become a national
holiday. She began writing essays in her "Godey's Lady's Book",
rather like a 19th century "Ladies Home Journal". She felt it may
help soften the situation from the war. If the Yankees and Confederates
observed a common day to recognise that at least both were praying to
the same God, it may be a peace of sorts. Many prominent people read
her magazine, and it did not take long before our government got
involved. Abraham Lincoln drew up a proclamation for the holiday in
October, 1863, including reference to God: "No human counsel hath
devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things.
They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing
with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly,
reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice
by the whole American people."  Since, the only presidents to inject
a specifically Christian focus to their proclamation have been Grover
Cleveland in 1896, and William McKinley in 1900. Lincoln's choice was
to be the last Thursday of the month. Mrs. Hale began publishing
thanksgiving recipes for the fashionable and the commercialised
feast-feast was on. In 1939, Fred Lazarus, president of F&R Lazarus,
later part of Macy's, complained an extra week of Christmas shopping
was needed to boost sales for Christmas. Of course Roosevelt obliged
and did his duty to commerce. This was later changed to the 4th
Thursday of November, and has remained the foothold of Christmas
commercialism. The new thought around so many Thanksgiving Day tables?
How thankful I am that tomorrow the sales begin!
In the Bible, followers of God ( and later Christ), had other uses
for the word "thanksgiving". Unfortunately, these beliefs have been
watered down over the centuries. Not at all like the good wine that
Jesus brought to the marriage table.  We need the real solid foodstuff
today and I'm not talking mashed potatoes and turkey. We need to put
Him at the head of our holiday table this year. Actually, I bet if we
all thought on it, we could be having Thanksgiving every day of the
year! Let's get back to the real meaning and bust Satan in the chops!
From the Psalms, here are just a couple of examples:
26 ...7... "That I may make the voice of thanksgiving to be heard,
And tell of all thy wondrous works.".
69:...30..."I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with
thanksgiving.
In Philippians,
4:...6..."Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by
prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
in 1 Timothy,
4:...4,5... "For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be
rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,(5) because it is
consecrated by the word of God and prayer."
This Thanksgiving, let's all have more passing around of the Word, and
less of the rolls!  I would just bet the desert would taste better
than ever imagined.

Tienes que realizar una migración de una base de datos?

Tienes que copiar una Excel a una base de datos?

Tienes que copiar toda la información de una griv a una base de datos?

Pues la solución para el caso de .Net es una clase llamada SqlBulkCopy esta clase nos permite copiar un dataset o un datatable a una base de datos siempre y cuando tengan la misma estructura.

Les advierto a todos el hecho de no usar el  SqlBulkCopy rutinariamente no es conveniente ya que esto da pie a errores de inserción y no permite controlar exactamente donde se da el error.

Ejemplo si queremos copiar 5 registros a una base de datos y controlar el hecho de un posible error lo mejor es usar un RollBack si ocurre un error no se guardan los insert  de los registros antes de que se desatara la excepción, de este tema hablare en otra ocasión.

Bien ahora entonces, ¿cuándo usar SqlBulkCopy?

-          Migración de base de datos

-          Copiado de datos desde una estructura Excel

-          Inserción masiva de datos

Bueno ahora veremos un ejemplo de cómo se usa esta clase útil para muchos casos

Ahora si a lo que vinimos bueno ya tenemos nuestros datos y vamos a migrarlos a una nueva base de datos usando BulkCopy hacemos esto:

ok como ven que fácil es copiar datos desde un servidor a otro con pocas líneas de código,

ahora bien tuve otro problema al usar esta clase generalmente en las tablas hay un ID que se coloca autoincrementado al momento en que se copia los datos con esta clase él les asigna un nuevo valor a esta columna comenzando desde el valor inicial que tenga en la nueva tabla, así que OJO al realizar la una migración.

Como se soluciona esto? De esta manera:

On Tuesday Nov. 17th the Varsity Boys basketball team played in a scrimmage game v. former Alumni basketball players and friends. In the game we used the score clock and Referee’s to prepare our players for real game experience.  With only 4 returning Letterman from last year’s team the game should prove to be very beneficial for the team.

We won the game 72 to 50.  In the game we had 5 players in double figures. Graham Evans led the way with 22 points.  Miles Jordan and Miles Whitehurst each had 12 points. Landon Pickens and Kenny Davison chipped in with 10 points a piece.  Leonard Walker added 10 assists in the game. 

It was great to see the faces of former students as the Alumni came back to our school to play.  The  Former Alumni who played in-game are Teddrick Arrington, Brennan Parker, Taylor Belsterling, Alex Taylor and Mark Sadie. 

The Knights open the season Friday November 20th as we take on Horseshoe Bend at 7:30 PM in New Site, Alabama.

What’s up with no edit & continue support for methods with Lambda Expressions(mostly from LINQ queries).

Error    7    Modifying a ‘method’ which contains a lambda expression will prevent the debug session from continuing while Edit and Continue is enabled.

Originally this post was going to be “LINQ Vs. Edit and Continue”, but then I found this article on MSDN saying how it works just fine in Visual Basic.  Visual Basic!  WTF!!!

The details for VB are a little cagey though:

You can add or remove code before the LINQ statement…. Your Visual Basic debugging experience for non-LINQ code remains the same as it was before LINQ was introduced.

Does this mean if you add or remove code after a LINQ statement it stops edit and continue, or does this mean MSDN needs a better editorial staff?  The “before” seems to cast doubt on the statement that “debugging experience for non-LINQ code remains the same “  Not that I really care since I like my languages with curly brackets.

If you want to know what you can’t do in C# edit and continue, read this article.  I personally have no interest in what I can’t do. I only want to know when I’ll be able to do it and I couldn’t find any articles on that.  I heard from a friend that its not fixed in C# 4.0.  

LINQ is too good to give up, but this is really getting annoying.

I’m almost (getting this close) ready to make my own solution, or horrors, switching to VB.

I had to do some quick checking on support for VB6 in Windows 7 this week.  The official Microsoft policy is here.  For me it can be summarised as:

• The VB IDE went out of support in April 2008, unless you can afford to go for Custom Support.  For most companies that would mean no new development on VB6
• The core VB6 runtime is supported on 32 bit Windows 7
• The core VB6 runtime is supported on 64 bit Windows 7 when running Windows on Windows

Note that none of the above applies to VBA, as that is shipped with and governed by the Office support cycle.
