Die Bundesversammlung 2009 beschloss die Verlängerung des Wettbewerbs zur Findung eines VCP Bundesliedes.

Aus dem ersten Liedwettbewerb konnte nach Bewertung der Jury keiner der eingereichten Liedvorschläge für den weiteren Entscheidungsprozess vorgeschlagen werden.=, deswegen geht die Auswahl in die nächste Runde.

Jetzt wird noch einmal nach Textvorschlägen für ein Bundeslied gesucht. Sobald diese von der Jury, dem Bundesrat und sowie der Bundesleitung positiv bewertet werden, wird eine musikalische Bearbeitung in Auftrag gegeben.

Komplette Kompositionen können natürlich ebenso eingereicht werden!

Kriterien für die Textvorschläge:

Die Texte sollen

1. die Identität und Erkennbarkeit des VCP vermitteln,
2. verbindend wirken und alle Ebenen des Verbandes ansprechen,
3. feierlich, aber nicht pathetisch sein,
4. das Leben im VCP wieder spiegeln,
5. historische Hintergründe des VCP berücksichtigen,
6. für Kinder und Jugendliche verständlich sein,
7. für möglichst viele Anlässe wie Aufnahmen, Auftakt- oder Abschlussveranstaltungen von Maßnahmen nutzbar sein,
8. in deutscher Sprache verfasst sein.

Diese Kriterien gelten auch für Kompositionen.

Bis zum 30.08.10 könnt ihr noch eure Textvorschläge (mit Begründung, warum er sich als Bundeslied für den VCP eignet) in der Bundeszentrale einreichen. Bei Kompositionen sollten Noten sowie Gitarrenakkorde und eine CD-Aufnahme eingereicht werden.

What are you passionate enough to fight for?  Do you have what it takes to stay the course?  My first inclination when asked to write this BlogSpot was to turn tail and run in the other direction.  Why, you ask? Here’s why, because I have never been asked to write a darn thing before and how could my director possibly know that I had it in me to do this? She does however, have an uncanny way or sense of seeing past the hard shell of insecurity to the soft, sweet, gooey center that represents triumph in the end.  Today, during our monthly leadership team meeting, our team was reflecting on the chapter’s current condition and how we might move into a new season of growth. Matter of fact, during our exchange, I threw out the old cliché coined by Mark Twain (which has become the title of this piece) “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” After hearing this, it prompted my director to ask me (yikes!) to write a blog around the saying.

This brings me back again to the question, “What are you passionate enough to fight for?” What the heck is so important in life that you will risk embarrassing yourself for, being transparent for, risking fear, shame, or humiliation for?

Depending on your sphere of influence or circle of friends, the prior comments may not even be an issue for you.  You may be so secure with yourself that you have no fear of rejection, have never felt fear or humiliation, but even for you; the question that still needs an answer is “What are you passionate enough to fight for?” Or better yet, stick your neck out for? Are you the tough big dog that’s all bark or are you the scruffy little fella who wants to take on the world!  I say, be the scruffy little fella.  While onlookers are saying “awwww, look at the scruffy little fella, how cute!” you’ve got your teeth in the big dog’s tushie and you’ve overtaken him (metaphorically speaking, of course).  Do you, big dog, have the tenacity of the little dog? Are you willing to give of your time, energy and resources to help other little dogs (and big dogs) move forward and become successful in their endeavors no matter what? There are some that will take up the little dog mantle. They will help them conquer their fear of speaking in front of others, they will become selfless, and they will want to share in the greater good. They will become “passionate” about helping others in any way they can. They will participate in activities without fear of looking silly.

What does all this have to do with BNI?
BNI is an organization for the person that’s willing to fight through the visibility stage, fight their way through the credibility stage, all while managing to learn about other members and their businesses. They bite off and give big referrals and expect nothing in return. They participate in chapter growth. They are ambitious, welcome challenges and offer solutions. In turn, they are victorious (and prosperous)!

Thea Westra (Forward Steps) says: “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. When you are seeking to bring big plans to fruition, it is important with whom you regularly associate. Hang out with friends who are like-minded and who are also designing purpose-filled lives. Similarly, be that kind of a friend for your friends”. (Birds of a feather? … another topic for another time?)

CDA wil onderzoek naar effect pollers

RTVWEST 23.11.09  -  DEN HAAG – Ondernemers in de Haagse binnenstad mogen niet de dupe worden van het afsluiten van het centrum. Er moet een logboek komen waarin hun klachten worden opgenomen.

Dat heeft de lokale fractie van het CDA voorgesteld. Het raadslid Smits wil zo snel een beeld krijgen van de knelpunten die ontstaan door het verkeerscirculatieplan. 

Het CDA is bang dat de winkels in de binnenstad omzetverlies zullen lijden, omdat automobilisten Den Haag links laten liggen. De pollers zijn vrijdag omhoog gegaan en leiden tot dusver tot grote opstoppingen en veel ergernis.

Haags verkeer weer vast in spits

RTVWEST 23.11.09  -  DEN HAAG – Het verkeer in de Haagse binnenstad is tijdens de ochtendspits maandagmorgen weer behoorlijk vastgelopen. Er stonden files in anders rustige straten in de Schilderswijk rond het station Hollands Spoor.

In Den Haag is vrijdag het omstreden verkeerscirculatieplan (VCP) in werking getreden. De doorgaande wegen in het centrum zijn voortaan afgesloten met pollers.

Het verkeer probeerde hierdoor maandagmorgen andere routes te vinden. Op kruispunten stonden verkeersregelaars om de automobilisten te helpen. Afgelopen weekend is de eerste auto op een poller geknald. De gemeente heeft daarop extra waarschuwingsborden geplaatst.

Verkeerscirculatieplan is ingegaan

Vrijdag 20 november zijn de maatregelen van het verkeerscirculatieplan ingegaan. Delen van de binnenstad zijn nu autoluw.

Vrijdag 20 november is het verkeerscirculatieplan in werking getreden. De flexibele afsluitingen, ook wel ‘pollers’ genoemd, zijn om 11.30 uur omhoog gegaan op verschillende plekken in de Haagse binnenstad. 

De binnenstad blijft uitstekend bereikbaar met het openbaar vervoer. Alle tram- en buslijnen blijven rijden in het autoluwe gebied. Volgens verantwoordelijk wethouder Smit wordt de komende jaren voor 480 miljoen euro geïnvesteerd in het openbaar vervoer in de stad en de regio. ‘Alle tramlijnen worden op het niveau van de RandstadRail gebracht: meer capaciteit, meer comfort, snellere verbindingen. Hierdoor wordt het steeds aantrekkelijker om met het openbaar vervoer te reizen, ook naar de Haagse binnenstad.

Met het verkeerscirculatieplan komt er meer ruimte voor fietsers en voetgangers in de Haagse binnenstad. Ook zorgen de verkeersmaatregelen ervoor dat de luchtkwaliteit in het Centrum verbetert.

RTVWEST 21.11.09  – DEN HAAG – De gemeente Den Haag is tevreden over het verloop van de tweede dag dat het Verkeerscirculatieplan (VCP) in het centrum in werking is.

Volgens een woordvoerder liep het verkeer een stuk beter door dan vrijdag. De gemeente heeft onder meer extra borden geplaatst die er voor zorgden dat het verkeer beter doorstroomde.

Er waren wel wat problemen met de hulpdiensten. Bij een aantal ambulances gingen de pollers niet naar beneden toen ze het centrum wilden binnen rijden. Alle ambulances hebben nu een pasje om de pollers te laten zakken.

 Volgens verkeerswethouder Smit van Den Haag gaat het om kinderziekten. Sommige automobilisten reageren echter gepikeerd en blijken niet op de hoogte van de nieuwe maatregelen.

Nu het VCP in werking is getreden, is een groot deel van het Haagse centrum voortaan niet meer toegankelijk voor doorgaand verkeer. Dit betekent dat automobilisten in Den Haag voortaan om de binnenstad worden heengeleid. Het verkeer moet omrijden via de centrumring (zie kaart).

Binnenstad moet minder druk

Met het VCP hoopt de gemeente dat de binnenstad minder druk wordt. De invoering ervan stuitte op verzet bij omwonenden van de centrumring. Die verwachten veel meer drukte en een verslechtering van de luchtkwaliteit.

Het VCP heeft geen gevolgen voor het openbaar vervoer. Alle buslijnen blijven dezelfde route door het centrum rijden.

De Verenigde Communistische Partij baseert zich op het wetenschappelijk socialisme zoals dat door Marx, Engels en Lenin is ontwikkeld.

Het communisme is de laatste decennia in diskrediet geraakt. In een niet aflatende stroom beschuldigingen en verdachtmakingen trachten de aanhangers van de vrije marktideologie communisme op één lijn te plaatsen met fascisme en nationaalsocialisme. Men gaat er aan voorbij dat fascisme en nationaalsocialisme ongelijkheid, uitbuiting en geweld legitimeren en zelfs verheerlijken en zich daarmee bestempelen tot criminele ideologieën.

Ook al is een begrip als klassenstrijd in het wetenschappelijk socialisme van wezenlijk belang, dat houdt niet in dat mensen bij voorbaat zouden worden uitgesloten. Ook de klassieke klassenvijand heeft recht op een menswaardig bestaan.

De beschuldigingen en verdachtmakingen richting communisme zijn overigens niet de hoofdoorzaak van het teloor gaan van het reële socialisme in de vroegere Oostbloklanden en het verdwijnen van de CPN in Nederland. Het zijn voornamelijk communisten die het communisme benadeeld hebben. Communistische partijen in het vroegere Oostblok waren door en door corrupt. Toen in Nederland de CPN onder vuur kwam te liggen, toonden maar weinig kaderleden zich bereid om hun rug recht te houden. Vaak werd er gekozen voor inmiddels goed betaalde baantjes in het bestuur die via de CPN waren bemachtigd.

De VCP is dan ook geen nostalgische partij. Eén van de uitgangspunten van Marx, Engels en Lenin is dat de wereld steeds in beweging is. En die beweging hoeft niet per definitie positief uit te pakken. De ontwikkelingen binnen veel communistische partijen in binnen- en buitenland waren dat zeer zeker niet.

De VCP is een communistische partij die met beide benen in de tegenwoordige tijd staat. We treden met de taal van deze tijd de problemen van deze tijd tegemoet.

Dat neemt niet weg dat we eerbied hebben voor onze oudere kameraden die in tijden waarin het communisme onder grote druk stond, standvastig bleven. Zonder anderen tekort te doen mag hier wel de naam van Roele Meins genoemd worden. Hij verdedigde in 1956 met gevaar voor eigen leven de drukpersen van de communistische krant De Waarheid toen deze door opgezweept gepeupel vernield dreigden te worden. Door zijn latere politieke optreden heeft hij er voor gezorgd dat het communisme in de gemeente Scheemda en heel Oost-Groningen behouden bleef.

Het is vreemd dat het communisme door zijn tegenstanders steeds maar weer opnieuw dood wordt verklaard. Zelfs in Oost-Groningen, waar het communisme toch tot op de dag van vandaag onder de mensen leeft, grijpt men iedere gelegenheid aan om te stellen dat het nu toch wel echt is gedaan met die in hun ogen verwerpelijke ideologie. De realiteit is uiteraard geheel anders. De VCP heeft zich als een moderne communistische partij een eigen plek verworven binnen de lokale politiek in het Oldambt.

Het steeds opnieuw dood verklaren komt voort uit het besef dat het “spook” nog steeds rondwaart. (“Een spook waart door Europa – het spook van het communisme.” De beginzin van het Communistisch Manifest van Karl Marx en Friederich Engels.)

Zeker nu, onder invloed van de financiële en economische crisis, steeds meer mensen vraagtekens gaan zetten bij het waarheidsgehalte van de vrije marktideologie, klinkt de roep om alternatieven luider en luider. Marx en Engels zijn weer terug van weggeweest. Men kan er niet omheen dat zij al in de 19e eeuw hebben voorzien dat kapitalisme van crisis naar crisis holt en uiteindelijk zijn eigen graf graaft.

Dat wil echter niet zeggen dat het vanzelf allemaal beter wordt. De huidige tijd laat veel overeenkomsten zien met de dertiger jaren van de vorige eeuw zoals economische crisis, opkomst van extreemrechtse en zelfs fascistische partijen, het zich nestelen van extreemrechtse en fascistische ideeën in bestaande partijen, isolationisme en protectionisme in de buitenlandse politiek en toenemende oorlogsdreiging. Nederland heeft zelfs weer een minister-president die net als zijn voorganger en geloofsgenoot Colijn uit de 30e jaren (“U kunt rustig gaan slapen, Nederlanders”) enerzijds de mensen probeert te sussen en anderzijds geen vinger uitsteekt om betere omstandigheden in het leven te roepen.

Het valt op dit moment niet te voorspellen in welke coalities de bestaande economische en imperialistische machtsblokken China, Rusland, VS, EU, Japan en eventuele nieuwkomers zoals Brazilië en India elkaar de steeds schaarser wordende grondstoffen en afzetgebieden gaan betwisten. Maar de huidige bewapeningswedloop laat vermoeden dat men, net zoals dat in de eerste en de tweede wereldoorlog plaatsvond, de economische crisis wil oplossen door de boel maar kapot te bombarderen. Zowel aan oorlog als aan wederopbouw valt immers veel geld te verdienen. En oorlog ruimt tevens heel wat overbodige arbeidskrachten op. De VS hebben al druk geoefend in Irak!

Over de binnenlandse ontwikkelingen valt meer te zeggen. Toenemende overheidscontrole en repressie zijn oude koek in tijden van economische neergang. Moderne technologieën maken het mogelijk dat niemand nog een vinger kan bewegen zonder dat dit geregistreerd wordt bij een overheidsinstelling. Big Brother is allang onder ons. Er wordt dagelijks wel door een of ander politicus geschreeuwd dat er harder moet worden opgetreden. Om de angst om wegvallende sociale voorzieningen en de onvrede onder de bevolking in “goede” banen te leiden heeft men als vanouds zondebokken nodig. Het valt een beetje slecht om daar de joden weer voor te gebruiken. Dus neemt een fascistische partij als de PVV nu voor de verandering maar eens de moslims. Maar in wezen gaat het om hetzelfde.

Leert de mens niks van de geschiedenis? Communisme gaat er van uit dat de mensheid wel degelijk vooruit kan gaan. Daar moeten mensen zich dan wel voor inzetten. Het komt ons niet aanwaaien. De communistische dichter Bertolt Brecht zei het zo:

Wie nog leeft, zeg niet: nooit
Het zekere is niet zeker.
Zo, als het is, blijft het niet.
Wanneer de heersers gesproken hebben,
Zullen de onderdrukten spreken.
Wie waagt het te zeggen: nooit?
Aan wie ligt het, als de onderdrukking blijft?
Aan ons.
Aan wie ligt het, als ze gebroken wordt?
Ook aan ons.
Wie verloren is, vecht!
Wie zijn positie door heeft, hoe is die op te houden?
Want de overwonnenen van vandaag zijn de winnaars van morgen,
En uit nooit wordt: vandaag nog!

 Volgens verkeerswethouder Smit van Den Haag gaat het om kinderziekten. Sommige automobilisten reageren echter gepikeerd en blijken niet op de hoogte van de nieuwe maatregelen.

Nu het VCP in werking is getreden, is een groot deel van het Haagse centrum voortaan niet meer toegankelijk voor doorgaand verkeer. Dit betekent dat automobilisten in Den Haag voortaan om de binnenstad worden heengeleid. Het verkeer moet omrijden via de centrumring (zie kaart).

Binnenstad moet minder druk

Met het VCP hoopt de gemeente dat de binnenstad minder druk wordt. De invoering ervan stuitte op verzet bij omwonenden van de centrumring. Die verwachten veel meer drukte en een verslechtering van de luchtkwaliteit.

Het VCP heeft geen gevolgen voor het openbaar vervoer. Alle buslijnen blijven dezelfde route door het centrum rijden.

If you are a VCP3 you’ll need to get a move on and upgrade your certification to VCP4 unless you have time to sit (and pay for) some classroom training next year – you need to have passed the exam before December 31st 2009 (i.e in 43 days time!)

Also bear in mind there might be a bit of a rush – anyone else remember the NT4 MCSE –> one-shot Windows 2000 upgrade exam? there will be a lot of people in the same boat as you (and I!) and time is running out, this is especially a problem if you only have access to a limited number of testing centres where you live as they will be getting booked up.

As some insurance VMware are also offering a free re-take at present; but there is a catch – you have to wait for a voucher to be emailed to you before you can book your exam with free re-take option – and it says the Friday following your registration – so bear this delay in mind if you want to take this option.

Jon Hall from the Certification team at VMware has confirmed today that holders of the VCP4 certification will get a new license for VMware Workstation 7. There is a process that has to be finished internally within VMware, then the licenses will be released.

VCP3 holders will still receive a license for VMware Workstation 6, as as always been the case with VCP3.

Temporada de resultados
Entre as empresas brasileiras que divulgaram resultados entre quinta-feira (5) e sexta-feira, o lucro da Lojas Americanas (LAME4) saltou 444%, para R$ 36,5 milhões no terceiro trimestre, enquanto a B2W (BTOW3) revelou queda de 38% na conta.

Os lucros das empresas de energia Tractebel (TBLE3) e Energisa (ENGI4) subiram 25% e 324%, respectivamente, na comparação trimestral, assim como o lucro do Paraná Banco (PRBC4), que registrou alta de 10,5% entre julho e setembro deste ano.

Maandag informatiemarkt over VCP

RTVWEST 02.11.09 DEN HAAG – Maandag organiseert de gemeente vanaf 17.30 uur een grote informatiemarkt over het autoluw maken van de Haagse binnenstad, het zogeheten verkeerscirculatieplan (VCP).

Veel straten in het centrum van Den Haag worden vanaf 20 november afgesloten voor het doorgaande verkeer. De parkeergarages blijven nog wel bereikbaar. Om de automobilisten te waarschuwen staan er grote borden met de tekst De weg = weg. 

Op de informatiemarkt kunnen Hagenaars terecht voor alle vragen over het verkeerscirculatieplan. De bijeenkomst wordt gehouden in de Dr. Anton Philipszaal aan het Spuiplein.

Kruising Calandstraat gaat weer open

Het kruispunt van de Calandstraat met de Waldorpstraat in Den Haag gaat komende maandag weer open voor het verkeer. De afgelopen twee maanden is het verkeersknooppunt opnieuw ingericht. De verbouwing van De Put, de doorgang onder het spoor op de Parallelweg en de Vaillantlaan wordt op 19 november afgerond.

This evening i finished the VMware vSphere – What’s New Training course at Global knowledge in the Wokingham, UK. I am going to firstly explain what my General thoughts on the course were and then go into some pro’s and con’s of the training course.

General Overview:

This is a Well Structured course which covers all of the neccessary new features of vSphere and clearly outlines the differences between vSphere 4 and VI3. Unfortunately my main issue was that the Course should have been held over 3 Days, and this seemed to be the general thoughts of most students. “When they worked” The Labs were very useful and good to learn how to implement and configure all of the new features.

Pros:

- All new features mentioned and covered in enough detail.
- Labs were very useful to learn your way around the new vSphere Client and where and how to implement features.
- Food was good. We had a wide choice of baguettes that were made for us individually along with 2 snacks of your choice provided at lunchtime. At breaks there was free tea/coffee/water/juice and a range of biscuits.

Cons:

- Course was too short. Could of easily worked with 2.5-3 Days of training. Found myself at 4pm rushing through the last through modules and then everybody left before they could complete the last Labs, due to it being a Friday afternoon.
- Labs were not set up properly. There were only 8 Attendees on the Course and we found ourselves working as groups of 4 at some points as the Lab was not configured correctly from the off.
- Not much focus on what areas are covered in the Exam. 5 out of the 8 students mentioned that one of their objectives was to learn knowledge for upgrading their VCP certification. I felt that we were not pointed out to what specifics will come up in the exam. I understand that this wasn’t an exam workshop, but I would of liked to have seen more of this.

So there is my general overview of the course. I would recommend this course:

- if you are already very familiar with vSphere and need it to upgrade exam (After 31st Dec 2009)
- If they extend it to a 2.5 or 3 day course
If none of the above fit into your situation, then I would suggest trying to get a place on the vSphere Install,Configure and Manage Course, or the vSphere Fast Track. Where there will be much more time to learn the whole product range and get the labs completed.

Toenemend verzet tegen parkeerbeleid

AD – DEN HAAG – Na de Heesterbuurt keert ook de wijk Leyenburg zich tegen de oplossing van de gemeente om de nijpende parkeerdruk in de wijken te verlichten.

Het wijkberaad Leyenburg is woest op de plannen van de gemeente om de bewoners van de wijk een parkeervergunning voor 1 euro in de maand te geven. In een brief aan het Haagse stadsbestuur roepen ze de gemeente op eerst extra parkeerplaatsen aan te leggen, voordat de nieuwe regeling van kracht wordt.

“In Oud-Leyenburg zouden de bewoners van de ruim 3600 woningen gemiddeld 1,5 vergunning per woning gaan aanvragen. Er zijn echter maar 2770 parkeerplaatsen beschikbaar. Hoe wil men dit gaan oplossen?,” vraagt men zich af.

Vorige maand werd bekend dat de gemeente een oplossing had bedacht om de bewoners in de randgebieden van een zone met betaald parkeren tegemoet te komen. Deze gebieden staan nu vaak overvol met auto’s van andere Hagenaars die hun voertuig gratis willen stallen. In de toekomst geldt in de randzone tussen 16.00 en 20.00 uur betaald parkeren, waarbij auto’s van buiten het gebied maximaal één uur mogen parkeren. Buurtbewoners zelf kunnen voor hun auto een parkeervergunning aanvragen. Deze kost 1 euro per maand. Hiermee kunnen ze alleen in de wijk zelf parkeren.

De nieuwe regeling valt bij de Leyenburgers niet in goede aarde. Vooral het betaald parkeren voor bezoekers is de bewoners een doorn in het oog. “Wij vinden dit voor de bewoners onacceptabel.” zo schrijven ze. “Het heeft verregaande consequenties voor de sociale contacten van de bewoners. Bezoekers die slechts één uur mogen parkeren, haken af. En dat, terwijl in de wijken veel ouderen wonen die zeer afhankelijk zijn van het bezoek van hun kinderen.”

De Leyenburgers zien meer in het weren van ongewenste voertuigen, zoals bedrijfsbusjes. Die zouden in de smalle woonstraatjes niet meer geparkeerd mogen worden.

So when I started this blog I was revising for my VCP 3.5. Well, I went and passed my VCP with a score of 87 which is really cool.

I am really happy about how things are going at the moment and I have managed to get myself booked on a vSphere 4 What’s New Course for Thursday and Friday this week. Looking forward to getting some insight into the vSphere world.

Sounds like we are going to be starting to upgrade and implement it in early December at work.

So my next step on the Certification Track is getting the VCP4 out the way.. Once that is done I plan to focus on the Enterprise Admin Material, unfortunately they only have this on 3.5 but I am sure the DSA course will still teach me loads of stuff which is transferable to version 4.

So the future looks bright for this young VCP – I hope to fill you guys in soon with some exciting news about my Career Path that I am waiting to be confirmed . Oh and also I hope to blog about my thoughts on the vSphere 4 What’s New Course.

I’ve decided to start working on upgrading my existing VCP3 certification to VCP4.  The biggest reason for me to do this sooner rather than later, is that, as of 2010, you MUST take a class to sit for the exam.  I got my VCP pretty recently, and don’t have a high expectation that I can convince management to send me to another class in the near future.

So, while out on the web searching for some study guides and information, I ran across this blog post.

It is essentially a reference card to view a lot of the maximums, limits, and other tidbits of information. I suspect it will be very helpful in my studies.

In the VCP4 exam blueprint, Objective 1.3 states that you “Understand Service Console firewall operation”.

The command syntax is esxcfg-firewall -<options>

The service console has a small number of services predefined in the firewall.  Use the -e and -d options to enable/disable these services.
To open/close a custom port that is not predefined, use the -o or -c options.

Start by opening an SSH session to the ESX server and entering su- to establish root.

esxcfg-firewall -s
Lists the predefined services known to the VMware host.
Remember “s” for services.

Here’s an example of the command output on an ESX3.51 U2 host showing the predefined services.

esxcfg-firewall -q
Queries the current firewall configuration.
Shows Enabled services and Opened ports.
Remember “q” for query.

esxcfg-firewall -e  <service name>
Enables a predefined service.

Balanços: Na 4a. feira, dia 21, começa a divulgação da maioria dos resultados trimestrais com Usiminas, GVT, Natura e Net Serviços. A Localiza foi a primeira a divulgar no último dia 7. No dia seguinte, 5a. feira, dia 22, o mercado aguarda os números da Oi e da Redecard, ambos programados para após o fechamento do mercado. Na sexta-feira, o foco se volta para a Suzano Papel e Celulose. A classificação, segundo a agência, é limitada por alguns fatores como: (I) Ambiente regulatório brasileiro em evolução, (II) investimentos agressivos em imobilizados; (III) riscos de interferência política do governo de Minas Gerais e (IV) perfil da dívida da empresa, que possui concentração no curto prazo.

GOL: A empresa divulgou nesta segunda-feira o anúncio do encerramento de sua oferta pública primária de ações ON e PN. Segundo a companhia, a empresa distribuiu um total de 62.190.000 ações, a um preço de R$ 16,50, sendo que 70% do valor total é oriundo de estrangeiros. Vale lembrar que o montante recebido foi de R$ 1,026 bilhões. Encaramos de forma positiva a referida captação, na medida em que a empresa terá mais folga no seu quadro financeiro no curto prazo.

Brookfield: A incorporadora define o preço da oferta mista (primária e secundária) na 3a. feira, dia 20. A Brookfield pretende distribuir no mercado 70 milhões de ações na oferta primária e 15 milhões de ações na secundária. A quantidade de ações poderá ser acrescida em até 12.750.000 de ações em lote suplementar, ou 15% do montante inicial, e de até 17 milhões de ações em lote adicional, equivalente a 20%.

Fibria: Prosseguindo no processo de equacionamento do seu passivo e aproveitando a melhora do mercado financeiro, a Fibria (associação de VCP e Aracruz) pretende captar cerca de US$ 1 bilhão com emissão de bônus no exterior para o pré-pagamento de dívidas da Aracruz com derivativos.

Odontoprev: O Bradesco e a Odontoprev anunciam acordo de associação para integração das atividades no ramo de planos odontológicos. O acordo prevê incorporação das ações de emissão da Bradesco Dental pela OdontoPrev, de forma que a Bradesco Dental passe a ser subsidiária integral da OdontoPrev e a Bradesco Saúde S.A. (Bradesco Saúde), controladora direta da Bradesco Dental, receba ações de emissão da OdontoPrev (Operação). A Bradesco Saúde passará a deter ações representativas de 43,50% do capital total da OdontoPrev e os acionistas da empresa passarão a deter os restantes 56,5%. As empresas combinadas têm lucro de R$ 86,5 milhões em 12 meses até 30 de junho. A nova companhia nasce com receita líquida de R$ 533 milhões e aproximadamente 4 milhões de vidas seguradas.

Fluxo - A Bovespa registrou a entrada de R$ 941,112 milhões em capital externo em 14 de outubro, dia marcado pelo vencimento de índice futuro. A divulgação de indicadores positivos e balanços acima do esperado também contribuíram para a forte performance.

Next year I intend to take the new Vmware Vsphire 4.0 exam and to this end I’ve started looking into building a ESX whitebox system for revision purposes during my research I’ve found a lot of solutions most of the issues with installing ESX is the NIC and the SAS controller. A good candidate for hardware would be HP Compaq D530 which seems to be an easy to find you can pickup one up on ebay for less than £100 Pounds as you only need to change the IDE hard disk to a SATA bigger disk as the D530 comes equipped with a compatible SAS controller to get ESX working. Another cheaper option is to use vmware workstation 6.5 to virtualize, yes virtualize ESX 3.5, 4.0 server configurations. I first learnt this technique whilst on a ESX training course 2 years ago it seems that vmware have built functions into Vmware workstation, which can be switched on allowing ESX to function in Vmware workstation. see links below and I’ll blog as I get closer to the exam.

I’ve received a couple of emails from folks wanting to know how I did on the VCP exam.  Regretfully, I have to report that I failed my first attempt, missing a passing score by 32 points.

In hindsight I’m not really surprised I didn’t do well as I really didn’t know what to expect and knew I was “pushing the envelope” in terms of preparation time.

Here are some things to consider if you are thinking about taking the exam and a couple of things  I’m doing to prepare for my second attempt.

1.  You can’t pass the exam by simply taking the class.  The class is good, but it does not cover the exam topics in enough depth to get you through the exam.
2.  Everything you need to know is outlined in the exam blueprint.
3.  All of the info you need to study is in the VMware documentation.
4.  I’m reviewing all of the free training material offered on VMware’s Partner website.
5.  Consider investing a couple of hours and completing the VMware Technical Sale Professional (VTSP) training.  There’s good material there that helped me fill in some of the gaps in my product knowledge.
6.  Consider some supplementary study material.  I’m reading Scott Lowe’s new book “Mastering VMware vShpere 4″.  It’s not a study guide, but is full of good information on vSpheres features and configuration.
7.  Know your configuration maximums but don’t spend all of your time studying them.

The exam is not difficult, the questions are fair and easy to understand.  I was lacking knowledge in two critical areas and it really showed in my score.

Even after deploying VMware solutions for the last couple years the certification process has taught me a great deal about the product.  I guess that’s the whole idea isn’t it?

In terms of ROI, I’ve already gone back to a few of the clients I work with and suggested some changes/enhancements to their configurations.  Having good instructors for the class and  combing through the documentation studying for the exam has opened my eyes to vSphere’s capabilities.

So far I’d have to say that going through the VCP certification process has had a very positive impact on my ability to consult, engineer, deploy and support vSphere.

This morning I sat the VCP4, official name VCP410, at Dimension Data premises. I like to seat exams at DD because the coffee is courtesy and I never failed an exam there.

I passed but I feel I was not as prepared enough. This led me to conclude that the exam is actually very hard and require some good hands on experience and deep dive into the documentation. Jason Boche had already alerted us in his VCP4 Exam post.

The exam is definitely harder than VCP3 however there is more  emphasis on your working knowledge than maximum configurations. I recall only a single question about maximum configuration during the 90 minutes and 85 questions exam.

I don’t really understand the point system used as the passing mark is 300, 350 for VCI and maximum 500. Each questions must have a different weight but this is not clarified by VMware as far as I know.

The Exam

Starting the exam I had to mark the first 5 questions for later reviewing. At this point I was really saying bye-bye to AU$250.00 and thinking my studies were not enough. However subjects I knew better started to appear and at the 40 mark question I still had almost 1 hour of exam to go.

I was then relaxed and started to take more time reading and understanding the questions. When I finished the exam there were about 20 spare minutes to review incomplete and not answered questions.

My wife works in Learning & Development and she told me that when reviewing exams normally we downgrade the final score. Apparently there is a study about that. So, I reviewed my questions and I am not sure if it helped or made it worse.

Anyway, I passed but because I did not pass the exam during VMworld I didn’t get the pin, the baseball cap or the flashy battery powered glasses but I am happy to be one of the first VCP4 in Australia. I would like VMware to provide the VCP numbers across all continents.

Simon Long Online Exams – Simon did an amazing job putting together a number of questions extracted from VMware documentation in an exam format. I personally find a lot easier to remember when I have to answer and review. I ran through those questions several times.

VMware Communities Podcasts – I now realize how powerful these podcasts  conducted by John Troyer @jtroyer are. I have been downloading them from iTunes and systematically listening in the car, on my way to and back from work, and the amount of information about VMware products and technologies generated is of great importance.

vSphere4 Documentation Notes – The vReference document created by Forbes Guthrie provides an easy way to memorize quick facts about vSphere and it’s correlated products.

Scott Lowe’s (@scott_lowe) new Mastering VMware vSphere 4 that can be purchased from Amazon.com Mastering VMware vSphere. This is not a quick-fix guide for your VCP exam. it will provide you will the vSphere Foundations and build up to advanced techniques.

Lastly, I would recommend reading posts from experts via RSS at PlanetV12n and unbelievably following those same experts on Twitter. They always come up with amazing links and information.

I’m a VCP4. What now?

I don’t believe anymore in certification towards salary/money. However I have been following the Australian job market closely and I have noticed that VMware and Citrix professionals are still in high demand despite the economic downturn.

All the big players in this market are throwing all their dimes towards marketing to create a need for virtualisation, consolidation and cloud computing. I’m loving being involved in this third IT wave.

3 – Cloud Computing

Not sure if there is more money waiting for us around the corner but at the end of the day this is something that we can certainly add to the resume and if there is a good background experience and most important, you interview well, the job is yours.

Update: I like the fact that VCP exams are not as easy as Microsoft ones and that professionals need to go through VMware training prior to certification process. I believe this give us a considerable advantage on the job market. However VMware need to take care to not hype up VMware professional prices too much otherwise organizations will start looking for solutions with lower TCO.

Investing into emerging markets where the Olympics are headed is supposed to be a safe bet, in theory.  Despite a flat close for stocks in the U.S. on Friday, Brazilian shares rose almost across the board Friday after last week’s decision to send the 2016 Summer Olympics to Rio de Janeiro.  It was huge for the iShares MSCI Brazil (NYSE: EWZ) gaining 1.9% to $67.30 ($26.64 to $68.50 is the 52-week range) and the Market Vectors Brazil Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: BRF) rose 1.5% to $39.76 (its 52-week range is $23.68 to $40.42).  The WisdomTree Dreyfus Brazilian Real (NYSE: BZF) currency ETF rose 0.54% to $25.89.

Outside of the ETF investing, this story becomes one where stocks may still have great growth prospects.  But if you are a value investor or one who does not like to chase stocks when they are close to yearly or all-time highs, then there is a problem.  So many of these stocks are hitting highs or are so close that you have to wonder just how much upside is there.  Using 52-week highs and all-time highs is of course not the only metric for valuations, but you might be surprised as you read through a summary of the major Brazilian stock performances on Friday alone.  Throw in the Brazilian Real currency versus the US Dollar component as these are all ADRs and it adds in yet another element.

Banco Bradesco S.A. (NYSE: BBD) is the huge Brazilian bank and its shares rose 1.8% at $19.94, with a 52-week trading range of $7.40 to $20.20 and an all-time high north of $24.00.

Brasil Telecom Participacoes S.A (NYSE: BRP) is a telecom player in Brazil and its shares rose 2.9% to $52.33, with a 52-week trading range of $22.00 to $53.49 with highs in 2007 and 2008 hitting north of $80.00.

Brasil Telecom S.A. (NYSE: BTM) is a telecommunications services provider whose shares rose 3.3% to $26.28 and its 52-week trading range is $9.49 to $26.55 and it was in the mid-$30’s in early 2008.

Braskem S.A. (NYSE: BAK), an integrated petrochemical cracker and thermoplastics producer, rose 0.66% to $12.28 and its 52-week trading range is $3.64 to $13.06, with all-time highs hitting north of $25 back in 2004.

BRF – Brasil Foods S.A. (NYSE: PDA), a poultry, pork, beef cuts, milk, dairy products, and processed food producer, was up 0.8% at $51.50.  Its 52-week trading range is $20.86 to $54.83 and its all-time high was barely north of $60 in early-2008.

Centrais Electricas Brasileiras S.A. (NYSE: EBR), the electric power producer, rose over 3% to $15.43.  Its 52-week trading range is $9.21 to $16.76 and data only goes back under one-year since its IPO.

Companhia de Bebidas Das Americas (NYSE: ABV), or AMBEV, in the beer, draft beer, malt, carbonated soft drinks, and other non-alcoholic space, rose 1.1% to $84.16.  Its 52-week trading range is $30.06 to $84.41 and this is effectively at all-time highs.

Companhia Paranaense de Energia (NYSE: ELP), or COPEL, the electric producer, rose 1.3% to $17.56 and its 52-week trading range is $7.80 to $17.71.  It came within a penny of a 52-week high during Friday’s session and briefly traded north of $20.00 in 2008.

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (NYSE: SID), the integrated steel producer, rose 2.1% to $30.10 and the 52-week trading range is $7.87 to $31.06 and the high after its early 2008 trading was right at $50.00.

CPFL Energia S.A. (NYSE: CPL), an electric energy producer, rose 1.6% to $54.15 and its 52-week trading range is $34.93 to $57.59 and its all-time highs were over $75.00 in mid-2008.

EMBRAER (NYSE: ERJ), the Brazilian airplane manufacturer, rose 1.3% to $22.57.  Its 52-week trading range is $9.27 to $26.53 and its all-time high was just over $50.00 in mid-to-late 2007.

Gafisa S.A. (NYSE: GFA), the huge Brazilian homebuilder backed by billionaire Sam Zell, rose 5.9% to $30.18… 52-week range is $5.33 to $33.09, all-time highs over $40.00 in the last two-years.

Gerdau S.A. (NYSE: GGB), in the production and sale of steel products, was one of the biggest winners as it rose 4.8% to $13.44. Its 52-week trading range is $4.18 to $14.01 and it was north of $25.00 in mid-2008.

GOL GOL “>Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes S.A. (NYSE: GOL) was somewhat surprising that it was not up more.  The Brazilian airline carrier rose 3.5% to $10.25 and its 52-week trading range was $2.78 to $11.53, yet its all-time high back in 2006 was very briefly over $40.00.

Itaú Unibanco Holding SA (NYSE: ITUB), the credit and financial services giant, rose 0.75% to $20.17 and its 52-week high is $20.50.  All-time highs were hit in 2008 in the mid-$20’s.

NET Servicos de Comunicacao S.A (NASDAQ: NETC), a cable TV player, rose 3% to $12.11.  Its 52-week trading range was lifter Friday to $3.88 to $12.27.  Its all-time high appears to be exponentially higher back in the bubble days but more recently this was a $15.00 to $17.00 stock during 2007.

Petroleo Brasileiro (NYSE: PBR), or PETROBRAS, the giant integrated oil player, is going to trade independently from any Olympics plays even if it is the giant of giants.  Shares were up 0.6% at $44.72 and the 52-week trading range is $14.73 to $46.52.  This was north of $70 back when oil was soaring north of $100.00.

TAM S.A. (NYSE: TAM), the passenger and cargo air transportation services carrier, rose 4.6% to $13.44.  Its 52-week trading range is $5.27 to $19.20 and its highs in 2007 were in the mid-$30’s.

Tele Norte Leste Participacoes S.A. (NYSE: TNE), a telecom player, rose 0.77% to $18.27.  Its 52-week trading range is $10.17 to $21.98. Its highs in early 2008 were north of $26.00.

Telecomunicacoes de Sao Paulo S.A. (NYSE: TSP), or TELESP, a fixed-line telecom player, rose 1.2% to $24.74 and its 52-week trading range is $16.75 to $26.11.

VALE S.A. (NYSE: VALE), or the Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, the diversified metals and mining operator, rose 2.8% to $22.92.  Its 52-week trading range is $8.80 to $23.58 and it traded north of $40 briefly in 2008 when commodities were soaring.

Vivo Participacoes S.A. (NYSE: VIV), a wireless telecom player, rose a sharp 5% to $26.18.  Its 52-week trading range was lifter Friday to $7.76 to $26.44.  Its highs all the back to 2000 were north of $200 briefly and more recently in 2008 it nearly reached $30.00.

Votorantim Celulose e Papel S.A. (NYSE: VCP), a pulp and paper player, rose 2% to $15.94.  Its 52-week trading range is $3.53 to $17.46 and was north of $30 in late-2007 and early-2008.

The world recession did not kill the Brazilian economy as it did elsewhere.  It is effectively energy independent, has favorable business practices for a Latin American country, and has an economy where the middle class still has much perceived upside.  And lifting up the lower-class still offers much room for growth.  If these stocks are truly reflective of the future growth, then the old adage “Brazil is the most promising emerging market out there, and that is the best it will ever be” may be history.  If the bull has life into 2010, it should continue to support Brazil and most BRIC-investment countries.

And if these moves prove to all be too far and too fast, then these are at significant premiums on a relative basis as there many domestic leadership stocks still well under their highs of the last year and longer.  Many investors tried to make the same investment hopes in China in 2008, and many of those bets are still very far under water as the markets dealt with the aftermath of the recession.

Brazil’s estimates population is already almost 200 million, and it has a young population.  The CIA World Factbook shows 66.8% of its population in the 15 to 64 category and 26.7% in the 0 to 14 category, with only 6.4% of its people 65 or older.  Its approximate 2008 GDP was $1.93 trillion, or $1.573 trillion estimated at the official exchange rates.  But the same CIA World Factbook also shows some 31% of the population lived under the poverty line as of 2005.
