Islam and Science | Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 392 | Size: 1 MB
Amongst us, human beings, none is completely devoid of the innate feeling – even from time to time – that there is a Creating God behind this universe. Such a feeling may be frustrating and people may be prevented from responding to it by the teachings they get as a result of their belonging to a particular environment, their indulgence in earthly life and cheap pleasure naturally, the Almighty Creator should differ from us in all respects:

لَيۡسَ كَمِثۡلِهِۦ شَىۡءٌ۬‌ۖ

“And unto Him the like is not” (Ash-Shûrâ : 11)

Most people could not be easily induced by this sincere feeling of the existence of the Creator to follow the right path leading to Him. Thus, Allâh [God’s name in Islâm] sent Prophets and Messengers – Allâh’s prayer and peace be upon them – with Divine support in the form of miracles suitable to their environment, until the advent of the last of His Messengers,Prophet Muhammad, who emerged after the maturity of the human thinking when the age of science was immanent; Allâh supported him with the Qur’ân to be an Eternal Miracle.

When I bought my dress and accessories, I had my hair up in a loose messy bun (pretty much my norm these days – 5:30am workdays have killed my motivation to get up early and glam myself out). So when the sales lady put the flowers and veil in my hair, she stuck the veil underneath my poof.

Not sure what was going through my head but I love my expression!

And I was never sure where to put my hands when trying on dresses. Ha, can someone say sexy?!?

Good full length shot

So this guy walks into a bar…

Ok, you get the picture. So the veil and flowers worked together nicely with the veil beneath the hair mess. Problem is that when I went back to David’s Bridal, they put the veil on top of my hair and I liked it more cause it made me feel more, I don’t know, bride-y? But the flowers didn’t work so much in the same place….

You can kind of see them peeking out on the right side of the pic but they got buried under the veil. I absolutely want to wear the flowers cause to me, they just scream beach-y (not to mention my mom paid $45 for them) and I really want to wear the veil on top, but I’m just not sure if it will work. I need suggestions on where exactly to put the flowers if I wear the veil higher. Funny, coming from someone who does hair for a living, I’m sure I’d have the answer if it was someone sitting in my chair. When it comes to myself though? I haven’t a clue.

Any ideas?

Hi friends

Burqa and Niqab were in use in the House of Israel; it is mentioned in Torah:

Genesis 38:14

13 And it was told Thamar that her father in law was come up to Thamnas to shear his sheep. 14 And she put off the garments of her widowhood, and took a veil*: and changing her dress, sat in the cross way, that leadeth to Thamnas: because Sela was grown up, and she had not been married to him. 15 When Juda saw her, he thought she was a harlot: for she had covered her face, lest she should be known.

*”and took a veil: and changing her dress” this has been translated in the Urdu Catholic Bible ” aur Burqah ourha aur Niqab dala” which means she put on a Burqa and put on a Niqab. May be the Arabic Bible also uses the same words, I have not checked it.

So Burqah and Niqab were in vogue in Jacob’s time. Mary also used to be dressed fully, one could go and see in a church how the Christians project her. Similarly the nuns are also dressed in full.

Quran/Islam/Muhammad followed the same good tradition of Abraham’s family.

I love Jesus and Mary as mentioned in Quran.

Thanks

Who knew there were so many options. As if it wasn’t enough to have to pick a dress, then whet

Who knew there were so many options. As if it wasn’t enough to have to pick a dress, then whether or not to wear a veil. Then if you wear a veil which kind. I decided I want to wear a birdcage veil. Our civil ceremony location is on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It will no doubt be very windy. I certainly don’t want to deal with an out of control veil. But there are sooo many more decisions to make when it comes to the birdcage. I had no idea until I started really thinking about it. How will the birdcage veil be worn? Should it come across my eyes? should it be pinned at the side of my head, on top of my head, or on both sides of my temples? White or black? Fascinator or none? Ekk.. To make my point and help to clarify the differences, I’ve gathered these images. What do you think? Does the shape and placement of the veil matter?

(1) Slanted covering your side sweep bangs, but not quite over the eyes.

(2) With a hat and in black. Maybe this is more engagement picture than wedding day look?

source

(3) Straight across covering the eyes. This seems to be the most common and most traditional look. At least it’s plentiful in the blogosphere.

(4) larger slanted from cheek to chin. This is the Madison birdcage veil by Castle Bride. Very glamorous. But maybe this style isn’t the best for a DIY bride like myself who plans on crafting her own birdcage huh?

source

(5) big puff covering the entire head. I have a big head. Will this make my head look bigger? The pros of this one include no break across the face and how fun and easy it will be to flip it back into a sort of traditional veil.

The Best Days of this World The Virtues of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijja: 1. Ahadith of the Prophe

The Best Days of this World

The Virtues of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijja:

1. Ahadith of the Prophet (s):

قال النبي –صلى الله عليه وسلم-( مامن أيام العمل الصالح فيها أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام قالوا يا رسول الله : ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله قال ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله فلم يرجع من ذلك بشئ) رواه البخاري

The Prophet (s) said: “There are no days in which good deeds are more beloved to Allah than during these days. The Sahaba said: Oh Rasul Allah, not even jihad in the path of Allah? He (s) said: Not even jihad in the path of Allah except for the man who goes out in the path of Allah with his life and his wealth and returns with neither of them.”

وقال ( أفضل أيام الدنيا أيام العشر) رواه البزار وصححه الالبانى.

And he (s) said: “The best days of this world are these ten.”

2. Allah swears by these 10 days in the Qur’an:

قول الله تعالى: ((وَالْفَجْرِ، وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ)) سورة الفجر (1-2)، قال ابن كثير رحمه الله: المراد بها عشر ذي الحجة

Allah says: “By the dawn, and by the 10 nights” [Qur'an, 89:1-2]. Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Ibn Katheer said: “This is the correct opinion.”

قال تعالى: ((وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَاتٍ)) سورة الحج(28)، قال ابن عباس: أيام العشر

Allah says: “…and mention the name of Allah on appointed days…” [Qur'an, 22:28] Ibn ‘Abbas said these are the ten days.

3. These ten days are better than Ramadan:

قال المحققون من أهل العلم: أيام عشر ذي الحجة أفضل الأيام، وليالي العشر الأواخر من رمضان أفضل الليالي.

Most scholars adopt the opinion that these days are better than the last ten days of Ramadan. However, what holds the last ten days of Ramadan at a higher status is the Night of Power (Laylat ul-Qadr) which is equivalent to one thousand months (83.33 years).

تضاعف فيها الحسنات قال ابن عباس”: العمل فيهن بسبعمائة ضعف”

The rewards are multiplied in these days. Ibn ‘Abbas said: “(The reward for good) deeds are multiplied seven hundred times in these days.”

قال الاوزاعى: “بلغني أن العمل في أيام العشر كقدر غزوة في سبيل الله يصام نهارها ويحرس ليلها إلا أن يختص امرء بشهادة”

Al Awzaa’i said: I was informed that good deeds during the ten days are the equivalent (in reward) to a battle in the path of Allah, in which the day is spent in fasting and the night in safeguarding, except if one is bestowed with martyrdom.”

In Ramadan doing good deeds and struggling in worship, especially during the last ten nights, is easier than during these days for a few reasons. Firstly, the atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, whether culturally, spiritually, or traditionally, makes it easier to focus and strive. Secondly, the shayateen are chained. So, to get that drive and direction we had in Ramadan, is much harder when we have most likely fallen out of “Ramadan mode.” However, since the `ibada is more difficult, the reward is greater. So let’s keep this in mind and get ready to really work hard.

The Plan of Action for these 10 days:

1. Really feel this blessing and realize that it is an opportunity of a lifetime, because none of us know if we will witness these 10 days again.

كان خالد بن معدان يقول( إذا فتح لأحدكم باب للخير فليسرع فاءنه لا يدرى متى يغلق عنه

Khalid bin Mi’dan used to say: “If the door for good is opened for one of you, then rush (to take advantage) because you don’t know when it will close.”

2. Have high aspirations in your worship and use the examples of the ijtihad of the saliheen as motivation.

3. Take advantage of the opportunities to get the reward of hajj while being elsewhere.

قال-صلى الله عليه وسلم-( من صلى الفجر في جماعة ثم قعد يذكر الله حتى تطلع الشمس ثم صلى ركعتين كانت له كأجر حجة وعمرة تامة تامة تامة

The Prophet (s) said: “Whoever prays fajr in congregation and then sits in remembrance of Allah until the sun rises, then prays two rak’aat, he has the full reward of hajj and `umrah.”

4. Perfecting the fara`idh (obligatory actions):

Often times we become busy trying to do extra deeds, but neglect the fact that perhaps maybe what is obligatory upon us is not at the level it should be. There is no way for a person to become close to Allah other than through the obligatory actions, as is apparent in the famous hadith qudsi in which Allah says: “My servant does not become closer to me by anything more beloved to me than what I have obligated upon him.”

Reasonable Goals:

1. Khatm of Qur’an: equivalent to more than half a million hasanaat during these days. Let’s try to complete the recitation of the Qur’an during these days, ending by ‘Asr time on the day of ‘Arafah and spending from ‘Asr to Magrhib in du’aa.

2. Qiyam al-Layl:

Rasulallah (s) said: “Whoever stands in prayer, reciting 1,000 verses is written among the muqantareen.” A qintar is equal to 70,000 dinar. The recitation of the last two ajzaa` of the Qur’an is equivalent to 1,000 verses.

3. Extra Salah during the day: The Prophet (s) said: “There is not a Muslim who prays twelve raka’at per day, other than the obligatory prayers, except that a palace is built for him in paradise.”

4. Dhikr: The best form of worship to do in these ten days as apparent in the hadith:

Ibn `Umar said that the Messenger of Allah (s) said, “There is no day more honorable in Allah ’s sight and no acts more beloved therein to Allah than those in these ten days. So say tahlil (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah: La ilaha illAllah), takbir (Allah is the greatest: Allahu akbar) and tahmid (All praise is due to Allah: alhumdulillah) a lot.” [Ahmad, 7/224]

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The best du`a’ is du`a’ on the day of `Arafah, and the best thing that I or the Prophets before me have said is ‘There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner’ (La ilaha illa’llah, wahdahu la sharika lah)” [Muwatta, Malik].

7. Reviving the Sunnah of Takbir:

Ibn `Umar and Abu Hurairah (ra) used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting takbeer, and the people would recite takbeer when they heard them.

8. Fasting:

The reward of fasting is great, so imagine how much that reward would be multiplied in these days. If one can’t fast all of the 9 days, then at least on the day of `Arafah as it is the greatest day.

Abu Qatadah reported that the Messenger of Allah (s) said, “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is an expiation for two years, the year preceding it and the year following it. Fasting the day of `Ashura is an expiation for the year preceding it.” [This is related by "the group," except for al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi]

The Prophet (s) said “There is no day that Allah will free people more than the day of `Arafah.”

`Ali (ra) used to advise people to say “Oh Allah free my neck from the fire” on the day of `Arafah.

9. Du`a’:

Especially on the day of `Arafah, but also at anytime. Keep in mind the times where du’aa is more likely to be accepted and ask during those times.

* The last third of the night
* Between the adhaan and iqaamah
* During the rain
* In sujood
* Friday
* While fasting

10. Sadaqa (charity):

Give sadaqa during these days, since the reward is multiplied tremendously.

11. Tawba (asking for forgiveness):

Continually renew repentance.

12. Establish ikhlas in `ibada.

13. Check and renew intentions at all times

The Day of `Eid

On the greatest day, remained focused as it is still part of the first 10 days which are the best days of the year! Try not to get too caught up in celebrating that you stop doing the worship that you were doing the first 9 days.

The day of ‘Eid: a day for visiting family and performing the sacrifice for one who is able.

I came across Lo Boheme’s store while shopping on ETSY. Here is a bit about them. Be sure to check out their store.Lo Boheme specializes in one of a kind and custom accessories for weddings, special events, or everyday wear.

Lo Boheme is the wife-husband team of Lauren (Lo) and Josh Christensen based out of a tiny 1920’s bungalow in San Diego, CA. The duo are excited and honored to offer custom and ready to wear pieces to an international clientele via their online shop, www.loboheme.etsy.com

The Lo Boheme aesthetic is inspired by the details of eras past; whether it be French Bohemianism of the late 1800’s, the detailed lines of the Art Nouveau movement, or the glamor of Old Hollywood. It is the delicate feminine sophistication from these times, coupled with Lo’s modern eye that produce unique yet wearable statement head pieces. Lo longs for the day when the headdress was a wardrobe staple, and it is her goal with her designs to bring this dream a little closer!

Lo Boheme sprung from our own wedding just over two years ago. In search of a unique personal gift for her nine bridesmaids, Lauren created one of a kind hairpieces made from vintage velvet flowers found in boarded up millinery warehouses in France and Germany. These types of creative personal touches flourished throughout Lo and Josh’s wedding. After rave reviews from guests and vendors, “Lo Boheme” the company was born, although Lo, the little lady with a unique vision and Bohemian spirit had been designing and creating for years!

So many people, so much love, endless inspiration!

Characteristics of a Pious Wife

A pious woman’s priority is to seek the pleasure of Allah. She tries acquiring the qualities of a good wife by following the examples of the Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) and obeying what is commanded in the Book of Allah. Complete obedience and adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) and Quran is the best of a woman’s qualities.

Examples:

A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her fame, for her beauty and for her religion. So marry one for her religion and you will win. [Bukhari & Muslim]

Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands) and guard in their husband’s absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their honor, husbands property, etc) [4:34]

An-Nasaii narrated that the Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) was asked

“Who are the best of women?”

He replied,

“The one who pleases him (her husband) if he looks at her, obeys him if he orders (her) and does not subject her honor or money to what he dislikes.”

Ibn Hibban narrated that the Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

“If a woman prayed five prayers, fasted in Ramadan, protected her honor and obeyed her husband; then she will be told (on the Day of Judgment): enter Paradise from any of its(eight) doors.”

Reflect on:

If a woman harms (in any way) her husband, then his wife in Paradise tells her: “Do not harm him, May Allah fight you, he is only staying temporarily with you. Soon he will come to us.” [Ahmad & At-Tirmithi]

If a man calls his wife to bed and she refuses till he slept while angry, then the Angels will curse her till the morning. [Muslim]

Allah does not look to the woman who does not appreciate her husband while she cannot stand his departing her. [An-Nasaii].

A woman does not fast while her husband is present without his permission, except in Ramadan. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Any woman who asks her husband for divorce for no reason will not smell the fragrance of Paradise. [Sahih Al-Jamii]

The Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

“If I were to order anyone to bow down to other than Allah, I would order the wife to do so for her husband. By the One who owns the soul of Muhammad,if a wife does not fulfill her obligations towards her husband, then she will not have fulfilled her obligations towards Allah.” [Ahmad]

They are the vultures, sent from the harvester of souls
Born of the flame down below, infernal
Destroy the righteous and the kind
I welcome them to take my life, this night
Come demons, feed upon my soul
Summon the darkness make me whole, evil
I am your instrument of death, the reaper
Horrid blasphemies now take control, becoming more creature than man
Spewing forth from the hell below, possessed by demonic legions
I offer no resistance, the demons now inside
Seduced by the fire, for veil is my….Rock
Drowning beneath the tide of chaos
Tempt and corrupt me to the bone
Savage, infected, a life of darkness
Twisted, unholy, abomination
Slave to the demons
Disciple, horrifying creation
Gorge upon my soul
Become the demon

I wrote this a while back, around the time when I was in the process of converting to Islam. I thought this might serve as a nice segue into my upcoming story of my journey to begin covering my hair.

Well, I’ve been thinking (and reading) a lot about modesty these days, and I’m concerned with all the criticism that Muslim women receive over their desire to cover themselves. I decided to take a look at what other religions have to say about this subject, and with very little effort I found that the concept of Islamic modesty is nothing new. In fact, in Jewish tradition (from the Tanukh I think, but I’m looking for an exact citation), Abraham’s wife Sarai never left the home without completely covering herself – including her face! Jewish women are also supposed to cover their hair (you can see that today in more traditional Jewish communities) and wear modest clothing. With regard to Christianity, let’s remember that Jesus said he came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Fulfill doesn’t mean change, the last time I checked. Further, Paul himself even states that a woman should at least cover her hair in church in I Cor. 11:

“Every woman who prays or prophecies with her head uncovered dishonors her head – it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head… The woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.”

So first of all, according to Paul, a woman with an uncovered head is dishonoring herself. Secondly, he commands that any woman who isn’t covering should have her hair cut off. Wow! That’s pretty extreme, and certainly not backed up by Old Testament law. Nor does Islam have any punishment for a woman who doesn’t cover, by the way. It’s simply her decision. Further, Paul states that a woman should have a sign of authority on her head. Meaning what? She’s inferior to what authority? God? No – to men. We can ascertain that because Paul didn’t tell men that they have any sign of authority over them; he singled out women. So, covering the hair in Christianity is done due to the authority of men, while covering the hair in Islam is due to the authority of God. That’s a pretty big difference.

Either way, modesty is not an Islamic fabrication, nor is it a symbol of oppression. Just ask any Muslim woman here in the West, and she’ll inform you that she happily chooses to cover herself. Further, a woman’s beauty is a valuable gift and treasure that shouldn’t be given away to the general public for free! I’ve heard it said many times by Muslim women that by being modest and covering their sexuality, they raise themselves to equal playing grounds and are therefore taken much more seriously as a person, and valued for their minds instead of their bodies. How liberating!

And by the way, just to be fair – Islam teaches modesty for both men and women. Men should dress modestly as well – it’s not a one-sided ideology, something that anti-modesty protesters conveniently overlook.

Additionally, people in general have been modest up until very recently. It wasn’t even until the 60s that people began showing more skin and abandoning modesty. Running around half-naked is an innovation that honestly hasn’t fixed the gender gap in terms of equality in salary or employment (to date are still receiving only 75% of the pay men receive for the same work, with the same level of education and experience), even in the ‘liberated’ United States. Women still get the short end of the stick, and are now viewed as cheap sexual objects, even degraded to the level of selling everything from cars to toothpaste. Look what ‘respect’ and ‘value’ exposing ourselves has bought us.

You can check out this youtube video for a nice visual montage of modesty throughout religions and throughout history.

This post was first published on Muslimah Media Watch If a hijab in Pucci-designed print could speak

This post was first published on Muslimah Media Watch

If a hijab in Pucci-designed print could speak, what would it say?

I attended a seminar presented by Professor Reina Lewis on Muslim women’s lifestyle magazines last night and was faced with this bizarre question. It all started with the actual seminar itself, which showcased the latest research adventures of the fashion and design professor. Weaving together previous work that included alternative Orientalist narratives in the 19th century and queer lifestyle magazines, Lewis’ paper focused on the Muslim women’s magazines that emerged at a crucial time (post-9/11) when more positive representations of Muslims were needed in a Western public discourse that had none. And the so usual suspects were mentioned: emel, Sisters, Muslim Girl, Azizah, and an anomaly, Alef–being the only one that didn’t try hard to get a particularly Muslim lifestyle look.

Having the enviable position of fashion professor, Lewis was more interested in how women/the human form were presented the magazines, what Islamic fashion is really all about, and the advertising contained within the magazines than the content. For her, visual representation in print media of women who were getting more covered up than their mothers, grandmothers, and their non-Muslim peers was striking and counter-cultural.

The same way Nylon and Harper’s Bazaar are different from each other in presentation and content, Muslim lifestyle magazines set themselves apart in these ways too, but addition to that the magazines self-define or defined by others as either “Muslim” or “Islamic”. emel, Lewis said, is a “Muslim” magazine in that it reaches out to an audience of diverse backgrounds and levels of religiosity, while Azizah is more “Islamic” because it caters to a more conservative readership. It’s hard to not find these labels contentious as they could lead to a series of polemical questions, like, is emel less Islamic than say, Azizah or can a lifestyle magazine as a guide help a reader gain a more Islamic look?

Of course the latter is a silly question, but having read fashion and lifestyle magazines myself before I’d say that there is a level of self-identification in (a few of) the models and the “I am what I buy” ethos that is much invested in brand advertising today. And so for attaining the trendy or at least up-to-date Muslimah look, one only need to look at what other people are wearing, and simply flick through magazines for reference.

During the Q & A session, someone from Saudi Arabia had asked a thought-provoking question about the real purpose of fashion in faith-based women’s magazines. It was a question that I had pondered over a long time ago when I decided on two things: to not be a follower of fashion and not to wear the hijab. The question goes something like this, “If fashion is about self-expression and to a large extent ‘being noticed’, how does Islamic dressing and the fickle world of fashion reconcile with the concept of modesty and inconspicuousness?” I remember the days when I had to wear the hijab in college and becoming the object of male attention which made me uncomfortable. Without the hijab, I found to my relief that the unwanted attention seemed to have lessened, but this had nothing to do with how much skin I was showing with or without the hijab, rather the headscarf became a marker of what good young Muslim men found attractive. This was when I learned that the hijab had more complex meanings.

This brings me back to the rhetorical Pucci headscarf and what modesty means to different Muslim women. In addition to being a symbol of devotion, modesty, and cultural identity, the hijab today has taken an extra meaning, one that fits nicely with the global consumer culture and current trends. The hijab as represented even in the most conservative Islamic women’s magazines often doubles up as a fashion accessory.

Not to sound overly fussy, but isn’t being fashionable attention-grabbing and hence immodest? I need to mention again that I am not into lifestyle magazines, fashion, and do not wear the headscarf, so I’m perhaps the least equipped person to explain whether Islamic fashion is modest or not. At the same time I think my assumptions that modesty clashes with fashion is probably unfounded, too.

What are your thoughts?

However, there is something about the lighting in that bathroom. At home, nothing. But I get into the bathroom at work, run my hands through my hair and bam! Grey hair galore. I pull them out but there seems to be more the next time I check. Maybe work is causing it.

Franch President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday again insisted that Burqa – the head-to-toe veil worn by some Muslim women had no place in secular France.

Burqa is worn by religious-minded and conservative Muslim women all over the world but over the years specially after 9/11 it has become a symbol of “conservatism and fundamentalism’ – something which does not fit into the Western society’s liberal lifestyle.

In August this year, a Parisian pool refused entry to a Muslim woman who was wearing a “burqini”, on the grounds that the head-to-toe swimsuit broke the pool’s hygiene rules. A French newspaper quoted the woman complaining of segregation.

Speaking on a French national identity debate, Sarkozy said, “France is a country where there is no place for the burqa, where there is no place for the subservience of women.” It a major speech on French national identity, the AP reported.

France, home to Europe’s biggest Muslim minority, has set up a special panel of 32 lawmakers to consider whether a law should be enacted to barMuslim women from wearing the full veil, known as a burqa or niqab.

The country has had a long-running debate on how far it is willing to go to accommodate Islam without undermining the tradition of separating church and state, enshrined in a flagship 1905 law.

In 2004, it passed a law banning headscarves or any other “conspicuous” religious symbols in state schools to defend secularism.

Sarkozy in June said the burqa was not a symbol of religious faith but a sign of women’s “subservience” and declared that the full veil was “not welcome” here.

He was speaking Thursday in the Alpine town of La Chapelle en Vercors in his first intervention in a countrywide debate launched last month on what it means to be French.

Public meetings are due to take place in some 450 government offices around the country, involving campaigners, students, parents and teachers, unions, business leaders and French and European lawmakers.

The debate will end with a conference early next year on the twin questions of “what it means to be French today” and “what immigration contributes to our national identity.”

The Socialist opposition has accused the government of pandering to anti-immigrant sentiment to shore up support on the right ahead of regional elections in March.

It has warned the debate risks alienating France’s large communities of immigrant descent.

But Sarkozy said Thursday that “this is a noble debate” and that “those who do not want this debate are afraid of it.”

Sarkozy made national identity a key campaign theme when he was running for the presidency in 2007.

Characteristics of a Pious Husband

On the Day of Judgment :Allah will ask men if they fulfilled their obligations towards their families. They who fear Allah will do their best to direct the way his wife and children live by educating himself and his family to living according to the Sunnah of the Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) and the Holy Qur’an, the final word of Allah.

The Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

“The best of you is the best one to his family.” [Al-Tabarani]

To share food with her, to provide her with (decent) clothes as he provides himself, to refrain from smacking her, and not ignoring her but in the house. [Ahmad]

One should not hate his believer wife. If he dislikes some of her attitudes, he would (surely) like others (attitudes). [Muslim]

Woman was created from a bent rib and will not be made straight for you on one way (that you like). If you want to enjoy her, you enjoy her while she is still bent. If you want to straighten her up, you will break her. Breaking her is divorcing her. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Do (volunteer) fasting (some days) and do not fast (in other days), pray at night (some nights) and sleep (in other nights). Your body has a right on you (to rest), your eye has a right on you (to sleep), and your wife has a right on you. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Fear Allah in (treating) women. [Muslim]

Be advised to treat women righteously. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing that Allah brings through it a great deal of good. [4:19]

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

”A Dinar (a currency) that you spend on your family, a Dinar that you spend on a poor person and a Dinar that you spend in the sake of Allah. The one that carries the most reward is the one that you spend on your family.” [Muslim]

The Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said to Saaid ibn Abi Waqqas,

”Know that no charity that you give whether small or large, for the sake of Allah, but you will be rewarded for it, even the bite (of food) that you put in your wife’s mouth.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Charla Nash Chimp attack victim surviving and strong On the Oprah Winfrey show on Wednesday, the Conn

Charla Nash Chimp attack victim surviving and strong

On the Oprah Winfrey show on Wednesday, the Connecticut woman who was attacked by a 200-pound chimpanzee revealed her heavily disfigured face to a nationwide audience.

Although she is blind and has to eat through a straw, she reports that she isn’t angry.

Winfrey removed Nash’s hat and veil to reveal her face, which was swollen and damaged beyond recognition. She had a large scar near the bottom of her face and a large piece of skin where her nose had been.

Charla Nash said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show that …”I don’t even think about it,” .” ”And there’s no time for that anyways because I need to heal, you know, not look backwards.”

The chimpanzee ripped off Nash’s hands, nose, lips and eyelids on Feb. 16 when the animal’s owner, Sandra Herold, asked Nash, her friend and employee, to help lure the animal back into her house in Stamford, Conn.

Police shot and killed the animal to stop the attack on Charla, and Nash has been hospitalized ever since. She remains in stable condition at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Nash told Winfrey that she is not in pain, but can’t breathe through her nose and has to eat through a straw. She said she doesn’t touch her face very often.

“I know that I have my forehead,” Nash said. “It feels like just patches of tape or gauze or covering, covering my face.”

It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago, when an eye doctor told Nash she no longer had her eyes, that she realized she would never see again, she said. Nash said she doesn’t ask many questions about her injuries.

“It’s like less for me to worry about if I don’t know,” she said.

“I want to get healthy,” she said. “I don’t want to wake up with nightmares.”

Nash’s family has filed a $50 million lawsuit against Herold, saying she was negligent and reckless for lacking the ability to control “a wild animal with violent propensities.”
Nash said she didn’t remember anything from the attack and doesn’t want to.

I would like to say on behalf of Jerrybrice’s Blog, that I wish her well, and I am impressed by her strength of Spirit.

She is right about viscous and wild animals, they all are predators and have unpredictable actions.Their physical strength is no match for any human.

Please take heed, and keep the wild animals in the wild or the Zoo.Not in a residential neighborhood.

Here is a YouTube clip of the Oprah Winfrey show interview with Charla Nash….
