I’ve just experimented with subversion and made sure I can propagate modifications to other distributions. This is basically using the merge function in subversion. My first test is very pleasing.

The developmment procedure is as follows.

1. The release distribution is used for generating the downloadable distributions on source forge and google code

2. Any testing or support calls are investigated using the maintenannce distribution.

3. Development modifications once accepted should be merged with the release and maintenance distributions

Today I blogged about the fabulous Children In Need video by Peter Kay. No sooner had I linked to it, and tweeted it, than Sony BMG had filed a copyright claim against it, and taken it down.

I had clearly stated it was a Charity video, linked to the original, gave direct links to purchase the video for charity, and mentioned the aforementioned brand.

A couple of things bother me here. Firstly how this reflected on Sony and its perceived lack of desire for driving extra traffic to a charity. Secondly, its lack of understanding about how young people interact with content.

The first we could argue all day about, and I have no desire to get into some horrid lawsuit for defamation. But the second issue is clear: Allowing people to share content on the internet in a controlled way is an invaluable way of spreading the word. Major brands connecting with young society must recognise that the users are now in control. They are the force behind how you promote online media; they produce and distribute content. Sony, you need to think like your audience. It not only reflected badly, it damaged my perception of your Global Brand, and from comments I’ve received, damaged it beyond my remit too.

By users sharing the video it had the potential to have a nigh on viral effect from an official YouTube version. The whole production is mind-blowing. So Sony, upload an official one to YouTube. Link through to the song on iTunes, flag up where you can buy it, seed it, and watch it go viral and make you look amazing in the process. It’s great Sony, have faith here.

As I’ve written this it hit number one on iTunes’ video chart after being released on download at the weekend. So what do you think? When you do, I’d like to have the Official YouTube version on my blog, which if you’re watching this, get’s several hundred hits a day on such a post. That’s several hundred people who could be seeing the link to buy and donate cash to charity.

Work smarter. The world is changing Sony.

Not content to begin the week venting dourly on such a dark topic as healthcare, I have decided to release the fifth and newest incarnation of my website, Renaissance Road (styled as RENAISSANCE ROAD.) The release is premature; due to freelance projects that take priority (and lack of motivation) progress up until now has been slow and much of the site is still under construction. However, prior to last week, there hadn’t been a major modification to the site in more than a year, which is, well, frankly ridiculous.

This new version tones down the look to a muted palette of grays with green spot color, letting gallery items take visual center stage. Logical organization remains, with navigation paths being built at the top of each section as you dig deeper into the site (a site map and footer are coming as well.) A projects page lists all of my…projects, while an art page lists a bunch of galleries with different kinds of…art. The music page, strangely, lists music. Like I said, logical.

And unlike the old page, which, while pretty, was all in flash and a bitch to quickly update, I’ve employed templates, scripts, and style sheets that will make updates quick and easy, which means hopefully I’ll be better at actually making them. I’m glad a gust of wind came out of nowhere and motivated me to pull the trigger; there isn’t much up now but stay tuned, as this will be the best re-paving yet. And no sinkholes.

Nu är dagens skola slut (okej, vi har hemstudier, men ändå!) så jag ska hem och ta det lugnt ikväll. Bland annat ska jag köpa hårinpackning på Åhlens. Mitt hår är skit och jag hatar det, men nu ska jag börja ändra på det. Så det så!

Today is bittersweet. I am 37 weeks pregnant, which means Kaden is now considered full term. If he were to arrive now, his lungs should be fully mature allowing him to adjust to life outside of the womb.

The baby weighs about 6 1/3 pounds, though we do not know his exact size. He is also likely to be a full 19 inches head to heel. You could compare his size of a stalk of Swiss Chard. I don’t believe I have ever eaten one of those, whatever it is!

Kyle and I received some surprising news at our last doctor visit. Baby Kaden flipped on us and is now in the breech position! At my doctor visit before that, two weeks ago, my OB felt his head and he was in the right position. I wasn’t expecting to hear this news, but I had experienced a different pressure from the baby over the past week. I guess I was feeling his head pushing up against my rib cage and chest.

So my doctor scheduled a version, which basically is a procedure to try to turn the baby. We went to the hospital this evening to see if that could be done. Before the doctor arrived, the nurse gave me an IV and some medication to relax my uternine muscles. Kaden and I had great vitals; he had a strong heartbeat and I had a relaxed uterus with no contractions.

I wasn’t very nervous about the process because I honestly thought it would go well. I was trying really hard to stay positive and hope for the best. The doctor and nurse had explained three scenarios to Kyle and me. One, we could turn the baby with ease and I would walk out of the hospital and carry on until I go into natural labor. Two, we would not be able to turn the baby and have to schedule a c-section. Three, if any complications were to arise during the version, I would have an emergency c-section at the hospital. We were prepared for all three scenarios and even packed our bags… just in case!

Once my doctor arrived, I started to get a little nervous, not to mention I was freezing and shivering in that hospital room! We took another look at the ultrasound and confirmed Kaden was still breech. Then Dr. Spoon began the version. Right away it was excruciating. I have never experienced pain like that. He pressed firmly on my stomach pushing the baby counter clockwise. He had the baby’s head in one hand while the other twisted at the feet and spine of the baby. I understand now why it’s so important to breathe through pain, but it gave me little comfort. Kyle held my hand and just told me to squeeze. I kept telling my doctor how much it hurt, but he continued. He wanted to make it happen.

We stopped and I caught my breath. He was able to move him a little, but said he started to float back into breech position. My doctor asked me if I was willing to try again and I said yes. But, this time I could barely handle it. The pressure was too much and I started to feel a pain in my lower back. I asked him to stop, and he did. I was disappointed, but the doctor had told me it would be a little difficult because I don’t have a lot of amniotic fluid. With less fluid, it’s harder to move a baby in such little space.

So, now that we had an unsuccessful version, it’s pretty much a given I will have a c-section. Babies, in general, won’t turn on their own this late in pregnancy. They just simply get too big to move. I am scheduled to see the doctor again on Tuesday. We’ll probaby schedule the procedure. I could just wait and go into labor, but if I am going to have a c-section anyway, why wait and go through more pain? I really wanted to have a vaginal birth, but the baby’s health matters more than anything else.

I will be sure to keep everyone posted, and I appreciate all the support we received tonight from friends and family.

A year or two ago a young couple lost their two-month-old son. They had him in bed with them and one of them must have rolled over on him in the night because when they woke up in the morning their beautiful baby boy was dead. A pastor friend of mine and I went over to their house that night. You talk about heartache! The boy’s daddy, a young fella, kept wallowing in the floor saying “God is judging me – God is judging me!” The pastor was trying to show them some scriptures when the mother blurted out: “I just don’t see how there can be a God.”And before you criticize her, you just wait till you wake up beside your dead baby.

I  said “Ma’am my heart goes out to you – I won’t try to say I know what you’re going through because I don’t. But I was reading a story this afternoon about a lady who had lost her baby boy too. She went to her pastor and said “Where was God when my boy died?”

He was stunned by the question like we all would be but he thought for a moment and said “Ma’am, God was in the same place He was when His Son died 2000 years ago.” And I’m telling you there’s a God in heaven that knows what it’s like to lose a baby boy. He knows what it’s like to lose a loved one and He can sympathize with your pain.

On top of that, I believe the grace of God takes care of little children and that baby’s in Heaven right now. And if mama and daddy are Christians – they might have to spend 40, 50, or even 60 years apart from their child and I know that sounds like such a long time. But looking back, 10,000 years from now, it won’t seem like that long at all.

Ein neues Pokémon Spiel kommt für WiiWare heraus. Wir haben den Titel unter die Lupe genommen und werden hier unsere Meinung zu dem Nebenspiel sagen.

Was ist Pokémon Rumble?

Pokémon Rumble ist der Mix aus Beat em Up und Action Adventure. Man hat ein Pokémon, dass man selbst spielt und kann mit Hilfe zwei verschiedener Attacken die Gegner besiegen. Hierbei handelt es sich aber nicht um rundenbasierte Kämpfe, sondern um Echzeit. Das sieht auf den ersten Blick vielleicht nicht einfach aus, sollte aber nur die jüngeren Spieler und Leser beanspruchen. Noch etwas ganz wichtiges: Pokémon Rumble ist kein richtiges Pokémon RPG und ordnet sich auch nicht in die normale Chronologie ein. Die Grafik erinnert nicht nur stark an “My Pokémon Ranch”, es waren auch die selben Macher am Werk. Das lässt sich bemerkbar bei der mittelmäßigen Grafik machen, und dem recht simplen Aufbau der Steuerung. Man kann zwei  Tasten (die 1 und 2 Tasten) mit Attacken belegen und muss dann durch linear aufgebaute Welten wandern und Gegner besiegen. Wenn man dann genügend Welten hat, kommt es zu einem größeren Tunier, dass man bewältigen darf. Jeder besiegte Gegner dropt verschiedene Items, meistens Geld, selten auch eine Spielfigur. Spielfiguren sind die Wesen die man spielt, die mit Hilfe eines Wunderschlüssels aufgezogen werden.

Wie spielt man Pokémon Rumble?

Zunächst braucht man eine Nintendo Wii sowie einen Internetzugang. Wenn man dann den Nintendo Shop Kanal besucht, kann man unter der Rubrik WiiWare gegen Wiipoints (100 Wiipoints entsprechen 1€) Spiele eintauschen. 1500 Wii Points kostet der Titel und ist damit einer der teueren Titel. Zwar ist der Umfang recht groß, ältere Spieler sind aber sehr schnell gelangweilt, da einfach das lineare System irgendwann keinen Spaß mehr macht. Es gibt einen Koop-Modus, mit dem man bis zu viert an einer Konsole spielen kann, hierbei überzeugt übrigens die Funktion, einen Nunchuck anzuschließen und diesen dann als vollwertigen Controller zusätzlich zu benutzen. Hierbei kann man sogar ohne zusätzliche Controller zu zweit spielen. Dennoch ist der Preis

Ein Bossgegner

unserer Meinung etwas teuer. Steuerungstechnisch spielt man Pokémon Rumble entweder mit WiiRemote oder WiiRemote + Nunchuck, Classic Controller soll angeblich auch gehen, hier müssen wir gestehen, dass wir das nicht nachgeprüft haben. Unnötig wäre diese Kompatibilität allerdings schon ein bisschen.

Sonstige Anmerkungen:

Die Grafik überzeugt nicht, die Steuerung ist viel zu simpel und auch ansonsten bietet der Titel nicht wirklich viel. Wenn man mal wieder ein kleines Mini-Abenteuer, dass etwas Länge bietet, spielen will, dann kann man gerne zuschlagen, allerdings ist das kein wirklich guter WiiWare Titel. Alternativen gibt es in dem Bereich auf Wii noch nicht, man kann allerdings man Lost Winds 2 probieren, dass ebenso viel kostet und deutlich mehr bietet!

Introduction

If you are building software and want to release that software at regular intervals then why not tag each release in Mercurial? That way you can very easily rollback to that version of the software at any time. Whats more is that you can use your own tags rather than trying to remember the mercurial revision number that was current at the time of release.

There are many approaches to software versioning which will not be covered here. Check out this wikipedia article on software versioning for more details on the different approaches. The purpose of this article is to apply the versioning as a tag in your mercurial repository.

Apply a tag in mercurial

When using mercurial, you must always tag after a commit. So if you know that you want to tag your current working directory, you must commit it first and then tag it. Given this it obviously makes it very easy to tag a commit that you might have made a long time ago in the past. Bear this in mind when using the tag command in mercurial and you will understand clearly how this feature can be used.

This is how you would tag a revision in a mercurial repository, first decide what revision you want to tag and then run the following command. In this example it will tag revision number 45 with “2.0.5″

hg tag -r 45 2.0.5

This command automatically commits this tag, so if you run “hg tip” in your terminal, you will see something like the following:

The changeset indicated in the comment (“b50b86512aac”) does indeed refer to revision 45.

Use a tag in mercurial

So how to use this tag going forward? Here are a couple of ideas.

Use it to see the commit info at that time using the log command as follows:

hg log -r 2.0.5

This will return the log entry that is associated with that tag, so in our example it would return the entry for changeset 45:b50b86512aac, as follows:

changeset:   45:b50b86512aac
tag:         2.0.5
user:        A Developer
date:        Tue Jul 21 14:27:50 2009
summary:     Made some serious changes to the application and deployed it to production

Use it to clone the repository to the tag point (note that the tag itself would not be included since that is added after this point). So if you do a “hg tip” on this cloned repository, then your would see the log entry for changeset 45 but the tag and the changeset that commit the tag will not be there (changeset 45 will have the tag “tip” in this case!).

hg clone -r 2.0.5 somerepo

interesante. new moon is out today in english.

i must say i’m curious to find out how they’ve done it this time. but i can’t be bothered to go this weekend. instead, i’m gonna be taking photos of my sister’s dancing show in this attraction park called tivoli world. and then i’m gonna go see new moon next weekend, and i’ll write all about it.

but now i MUST re-read twilight and new moon by next weekend (i like to remind myself of what i’ve read before a while ago).
