Thanks for making lolNASCAR successful for another year. We are now just 51 days away from Daytona (less if you’re thinking Shootout! w00t!!) I’m hoping to improve the site for the 2010 season and it may involve a new address, so I hope you’ll stay tuned and follow me if necessary. Im glad I can make you laff and enjoy (mostly) trading commentz with you.

So, here’s a toast: Raise your glass, flute, mug, shot, bottle, can, hip flask, whatever…Here’s to a great new year where Dale Jr wins every race and a fun fun fun new race season that doesnt involve Jimmeh winning another campionship with lots of silly pics to capshun!

Open up your hearts people:

I am thinking about everything at once. It’s strange.  I feel like blogging will be good for me. To kind of get everything out of my head. Even though I will forget about it by bed time. I really wish summer would roll back around. Like tomorrow. Being cold makes life so much harder on me. I miss all the opportunity that comes along with the warm weather. Staying out all night wasnt a problem because it was so warm and inviting. I truely wish to live that way forever. Young and wild. I know eventually things will grow cold again and life will wind back down. I honestly hate that. I want to move to California so I will be warm and near water. The beach is the best. I haven’t been to one in years. I miss it. I daydream about how amazing it would be if I could go to florida or someplace warm with a nice beach or two. I also love looking back on the summer nights spent out and about without my parents knowing. The late nights in my backyard running throughout my neighborhood. Or the strange and exciting trips to strangers houses. Making friends and enemies along the way. Growing close with certain people. Only for it to all fall apart as school, and winter comes. Maybe im thinking about it wrong, maybe it’s supposed to be a new start. For more fun to come. Im hoping. Certain songs, scents, or words bring me back to a random day, night, or minute of my amazing summer of 09. I truely haven’t had that much fun in my life. So many lies, scares, laughs, tears, and memories, yet I feel like it’s the only way to live. Truely live. My life is more amazing than I could dream up. I am more individualistic than I could ever hope. If I ever feel ungrateful, or unimportant I shall come look at this. And think back. Cause that’s all we really can do right?

Theres so much more I could write, but im sure you are exhausted, if your even reading. Doesn’t matter. Thankyou.

And this wonderful day started with a great email. My Mom has gotten Dawn and myself flights to go out and see both my parents over Christmas. It’s the first time I will have seen Mom in 4 1/2 years, and almost two years since I’ve seen my Dad (as he comes out west to ski).

That flash of positivity and excitement came crashing down due to my employment. Not that I have to go to work, but rather every piece of shit that existed hit the proverbial fan. Maybe I needed the big up to keep me even throughout the day (though I did want to yell at a few employees for less than intelligent decision making). But I had a revelation throughout the course of Chuck Barris’ old show.

I’m going to move my .ca to be this blog. Yup, jeffvickers.ca will soon be the new address of this blog. I have been toying with multiple templates, playing with layouts, and my stumbling block has always been getting blog code into the template, as it is beyond just cumbersome. And since the other pages can much more easily transfer here than vice versa, this blog will be the all encompassing home of me. Period.

Additions to this site are soon to follow.

La rassegna musicale prende il nome dal celebre film di Catherine Bigelow. Un film molto rock. Così come la rassegna organizzata da A.Do. events, in programma per tutto il mese di novembre al Caffè delle Filande di Sarno. Questo mese è dedicata alla ONLUS “Fondazione Internazionale Il Giardino delle Rose Blu”.

Gli organizzatori sono gli stessi dell’Electronic Sound Winter, che lo scorso inverno (e primavera), risveglio la provincia napoletana. In programma, almeno per novembre, quattro concerti di altrettanto band indipendenti (non solo campane), genere a 360 gradi.

Apre la rassegna, venerdì 6 novembre, lo skacore dei casertani R.F.C., capitanati da Maurizio Affuso (padre anche del Caserta Rock Festival) e molto seguiti nella scena ska e punkcore italiana.

Il 13 tocca al trip-hop in salsa electro dei salernitani Yumma-Re. che nel 2009 hanno pubblicato l’album Eden. Sette giorni dopo ecco i Vickers: fiorentini ed autori di un indie pop di matrice brit, ispirato dalle sonorità 60 di Kinks e Beatles.

Ultimo concerto di novembre, il 20, con i Lef: storica band underground salernitana, nata nel “lontano” 1992, e di matrice fortemente rock prog. Il Caffè delle Filande si trova in via Roma, a Sarno.

Para los chicos de Tecnología Industrial II y como colofón al tema de Materiales, os presento un enlace a un blog del Departamento de Tecnología “Aulas de Tecnologías“, donde encontraréis abundante información sobre el Ensayo de dureza. El artículo lo escribio la compañera Amelia Tierno.

‘They might be good at home but they don’t like it up em on on a wet Tuesday night way at (insert name of any lowly footballing outpost) do they?’

That is an old footballing cliche about sides that play champagne football at home but don’t feel as comfortable away from those familiar surroundings and are unable to show their true form there.

Well a wet Tuesday night in Barrow was clearly not to some of the Mansfield Town players’ liking on Tuesday against a physical home side and a hostile home support in very spartan surroundings (the gents was literally a concrete floor with a drain cover to try to aim through)!

But when the buds are back on the trees and the sun starting to warm up again in late April, it is points from those very nights at places like Barrow which will separate the wheat from the chaff, the winners from the also-rans.

Look at Oxford and Stevenage. Neither will have fancied coming to Field Mill this season against a side with a great home record. But both were able to show exactly what they are made of, Stevenage winning with a dash of help from the referee and Oxford pushing Stags all the way.

But at Barrow Stags failed to keep the ball and were torn to shreds by the mobility and inginuity of Justin Walker who scored twice and led them a merry dance.

Indeed, both centre halves Scott Garner and Luke Graham were lucky to only end the evening with yellow cards.

Yet contrast that display with the home clash against Barrow just six short weeks ago when Mansfield ran out comfortable 4-1 winners. And consider how energetic Stags were in putting an unbeaten Oxford firmly on the back foot just a week earlier.

It is true that five of the visiting side were not fully fit. But they should still have had enough to see off a Bluebirds side that lacks the quality David Holdsworth has in his squad.

It wasn’t the worst away display by any means. It is knowing what Mansfield are actually capable of that makes it hurt.

Had Stags not been stung by two superb finishes after levelling the game or had taken one of a handful of half chances later on, they might have at least brought a point home.

But Barrow, stinging from their manager’s criticisms over a 3-0 defeat at Salisbury, simply wanted it more on the night.

Mansfield’s away record has been poor for several seasons and, after winning two of the first three this season, is in danger of being their Achille’s heel again unless they do something about it quickly.

Holdsworth learned more about his players last night while I was given a suprise geography lesson!

Having booked a bed and breakfast blindly on the internet for after Tuesday’s game which was a mile and a half from the ground, I at least expected it to be on the English mainland!

Instead it was on the eighth largest marine island in the British Isles – the Isle of Walney.

This is a part of the country I am quite ignorant about and I was gobsmacked to find myself crossing a road bridge to an island you could only reach by ferry until the bridge was built in 1908.

The island overlooks the old Vickers shipyard which these days produces the submarines we keep our money-wasting Trident missiles on and, along with the paper mill and steelworks, is one of Barrow’s big three employers, albeit vastly reduced from its glory days.

I gleaned much of this knowledge from the only two blokes in the pub I finished up in to the north of the island.

Seeking a post-match pint of beer to help wipe away the misery of defeat I asked in the press box which pub I should go to locally for a decent pint. Amid some sharp intakes of breath I was advised to avoid the nearest pub to the BnB as there was a 50-50 chance of being beaten up and generally be careful!

I was advised to turn right on the island and drive into the darkness until I saw the light from the Crown.

Straight away the barmaid there recognised that I had never been in there before and told me so! But she and the two drinkers then were happy to chat about the history of the island and Barrow and it didn’t turn into a scene from the League of Gentlemen or An American Werewolf in London where strangers are unwelcome.

Those in the pub were all surprised to hear Barrow had won their second home match of the season against a Mansfield side they comfortably expecetd to take the points home.

No more surprised I woul suggest than David Holdsworth whose post-match anger and sore throat suggested we had missed the best of it in the dressing room some 30 minutes earlier.

Hopefully his words will work as this side is good enough to win at Barrow and go up this year in terms of talent, the belief and application away from home is the bit going wrong.

Forest Green shoudl be easily dispatched this Saturday. But Altrincham away the following week will be the big chance to start putting these away problems right.

PS – my apologies to Steve in South Africa who complained I had let my blogs regulaarity slip of late. Two weeks of jury service followed by playing catch-up in the office was the reason. Back on track now hopefully. Thank you for reading them!

Como colofón a la sección dedicada a los ensayos con materiales de uso técnico, os presento una nueva tanda de apuntes sobre los ensayos con materiales. ¿Recordaís el concepto de fatiga de materiales? No es que los materiales se cansen ¡!, pero sí que pueden sufrir esfuerzos durante un largo periodo de tiempo que los pueden mermar. Y, por supuesto, el ensayo de dureza. La dureza es una propiedad básica de los materiales, ya que a mayor dureza, mayor resistencia al desgaste por fricción. Bueno, no me enrollo más.

Sau khi qủa top “20 sop vĩ đại nhất mọi thời đại” gây được sự rùm beng nhất đinh năm ngoái, BBC Music Magazine, 1 trong những tạp chí thuộc hàng top chuyên về nhạc cổ điển (kể cả doanh thu và chất lượng) đã kịp ăn theo ngay lập tức với 1 danh sách tương tự với Tenor, và kịch bản lại trở về y chang như danh sách năm ngoái. Trước tiên xin hãy nghía qua cái list được lập ra bởi một tập thể vài chục nhà phê bình, tổng biên tập và giảng viên thanh nhạc danh tiếng Anh quốc:

Tương tự lần trước, để đảm bảo tính chất khách quan, cũng như ngầm thể hiện đẳng cấp của mình, những cái tên trong top5 khá xứng đáng. Domingo, giống như Callas, chưa bao h là giọng tenor đẹp đẽ nhất, khoẻ nhất, hay kĩ thuật tốt nhất nhưng sức ảnh hưởng và vị trí quá lớn. Caballé từng thổ lộ: “Với Carreras một chút, với Pavarotti 1 chút, nhưng với Domingo là tất cả“, khi bà bày tỏ cảm giác khi đứng cùng sân khấu với 3 giọng tenor. Phong độ ổn định, khả năng chiến đấu đa dạng ở nhiều loại vai, và đặc biệt là khả năng lôi cuốn và chi phối cảm xúc khán giả trên sân khấu khiến Do từng đc người ta xưng tụng bằng cái tên “King of Opera”.

Người có khả năng đứng trên, với tầm ảnh hưởng lớn như vậy, duy nhất chỉ có Caruso huyền thoại (2). Có lẽ đối với BBCMM, Caruso kém may mắn hơn vì sinh ra vào thời kì mono, nhưng người ca sĩ đầu tiên của thế giới được ghi âm, không thể nào đứng ở vị trí thấp hơn. Nhà soạn nhạc Puccini, khi lần đầu tiên thấy anh chàng Caruso vô danh hát aria “Recondita armonia” đã thốt lên: “Ai gửi anh đến đây vậy? Phải chăng là Chúa?”

Đối với những người trong nghề, Pava chưa chắc đã ở vị trí cao như vậy. Một người có nhạc cảm kém, khả năng diễn xuất tệ chỉ được bù lại bởi một giọng hát tự nhiên đẹp rùng rợn (Có lẽ đẹp nhất nhì trong lịch sử). Nếu như không phải vì chuyện ông vừa qua đời năm rồi, thì pava có thể sẽ dừng chân ở top 10, top20.

Enrico Caruso và Luciano Pavarotti

Frizt “Tuyệt Vời” (Wunderlich), cán đích ở vị trí số 4 một cách thuyết phục. Có rất ít ca sĩ chuyên lied (ca khúc nghệ thuật) cùng đẳng cấp với ông (baritone Fischer-Dieskau,soprano Schwarzkopf, de los Angeles,…).dù ông ra đi quá sớm khi chưa đầy 40t, đang ở đỉnh cao sự nghiệp. Theo sát là Jussi Bjorling. Bjorling là giọng hát tự nhiên đẹp nhất đối với mình (kể cả so với pava), âm thanh lúc nào cũng rực rỡ, đầy đặn, các note si, đô, đều tuyệt hảo, khả năng điều khiển âm lượng tốt nên dù giọng nhỏ mà lại cảm giác có sức lan toả lớn. Bjorling cùng với Caruso và Gigli được nhiều người xưng tụng là 3 giọng nam cao huyền thoại.

Fritz Wunderlich và Jussi Björling

Danh sách chỉ bắt đầu có vấn đề từ top 10, xin phép tạm bỏ qua Lauritz Melchior - Hendel tenor trâu bò đầu tiên có vị thế tầm cỡ thế giới, B.Gigli yểu điệu từng làm mê mệt các chị em, và anh tenor Nga -Thuỵ điển N.Gedda với khả năng am hiểu ngôn ngữ, về nhả chữ, cũng như những note đố , rế toả sáng trên mây. John Vicker tuy k0 kém, rất xuất sắc là đằng khác, nhưng k0 hiểu sao, BBCMM lại bỏ rơi Monaco. Rõ ràng Monaco biểu cảm hơn, độ kịch tính, mạnh mẽ với sức vang lớn của một Robusto tenor vượt trội, những note cao rực rỡ chứ không bí bí, như anh tenor Canada cùng type giọng.

Tuy nhiên, Vicker dù gây tranh cãi nhưng vẫn xứng đáng hơn anh chàng Tenor “gay” P.Pears. Vị “phu nhân” (hay phu quân?) của nhà soạn nhạc B.Britten, đã được các nhà phê bình Anh quốc thổi lên tận mây xanh. Chưa bao h xuất sắc trong cả hát thính phòng lẫn opera, điểm sáng duy nhất là những vở opera của “chồng” – B. Britten viết riêng cho mình. BBCMM cũng đã cố gắng hạn chế tinh thần tự tôn dân tộc để cố níu P.Pears vị trí thứ 10 chứ không lố bịch như trường hợp E.Kirby (sop Anh thường thước bậc trung đc thổi lên vị trí thứ 8 trên cả những Flagstad, Ponselle,…) lần trước.

Pears đã đẩy Tito Schippa tình củ của mình về số 11. Có người cho rằng NSND Quốc Hương hồi học ở Hungary đã đc vào lớp của Schipa, chả biết đúng hay sai, nhưng cách hát của QH cũng khá gần với cách hát nhẹ nhàng, sâu lắng mà tinh tế của Schippa. Schipa là 1 trong những leggiero tuyệt vời nhất thế kỉ, dù bẩm sinh giọng hát của ông rất nhiều hạn chế (giọng nhỏ, âm vực hẹp,…)

Schreier thính phòng, Corelli-hành tây, Kraus-belcanto, Bergonzi uy nghi , Windgassen – Wagnerian theo đuôi nhau ở vị trí (14,15, 18,19) Những vị trí không cao nhưng xứng đáng. Tuy hơi thiệt thòi cho Corelli, 1 trong những fav tenor của mình, Corelli cũng từng nhiều lần đứng ở vị trí cao trong các bảng xh. Schreier hơi mờ nhạt, chuẩn mực, nhưng có nét gì đó giống Janowitz, nên mình vẫn thích Với nhiều người thì việc SChreier vào list là k0 hợp lí, nhưng có lẽ vẫn xứng đáng hơn Pears và Anthony Rolfe Johnson. Johnson đúng là 1 kiểu E.Kirby tenor không hơn không kém, không hiểu sao, dân Anh lại thích những type giọng kiểu này. BBCMM cũng đủ tự trọng để cho Johnson và Pears ở gần nửa sau, chắc do lần trước bị la ó dữ dội quá.Kraus là 1 belcanto tenor tuyệt vời, hát rất có gout, lại thể hiện tình cảm. Giá như khả năng chạy note của ông được như Luigi Alva, và không bị Karajan xui hát Verdi quá nhiều thì chắc chắn khó có tenor trẻ trung nào vượt qua được ông.

Và kẻ vượt mặt ấy không ai khác chính là béTenor bảnh choẹ gốc Peru. Tất nhiên cái vẻ trai lơ Mỹ la tinh không phaỉ lí do để Florez có mặt. Giọng nam cao đẹp nhất kể từ sau Pava, đã hất cẳng cả Vilazon nhí nhảnh, Alagna nóng nảy hay Bostridge khô khan. Bé Florez vẫn còn phải phấn đấu nhiều lắm mới bằng các bậc cha chú. Florez là tenor hiện đại duy nhất, điều này càng khiến cho bé đc dịp lên hương, báo chí Mỹ la tinh đã thổi phồng chuyện này một cách quá đáng và đưa Florez lên vị trí Tenor quan trọng nhất đương đại. Dù sao cậu ấy còn trẻ, mọi chuyện còn đang ở phía trước.

2 thành viên cuối cùng là lão tướng gốc Ailen McCormack và NSND Liên Xô Sergei Lemeshev. MC Cormack thì mình chưa nghe nhiều, nhưng bác này khá đc yêu thích tại Mẽo. BBCMM rút kinh nghiệm list sop lần trước nên đã thêm khá nhiều tenor trước WW2. Nhưng không có Di stefano (?). Bản “La donna e mobile”, Di stefano hát live năm 1948, là version hay nhất của mình đối với aria này, hơn cả bản của Pava, hơn cả bản của Bjorling. Một giọng hát tràn nhựa, những note cao sáng quắc với một làn hơi dài đằng đẵng. Không có Monaco? Không có Carerras? Thập niên 80 không có Carreras cũng giống như vắng bóng Te kanawa vậy. Và rất nhiều các tên tuổi khác trước WW2 nữa như Lauri-Volpi, Slezak,… Điều này khiến Lemeshev va` McCormack trở nên lạc lõng. Lemeshev – một trong những tenor Liên Xô vĩ đại nhất, nhưng cách hát của ông mang đậm tính địa phương. Lemeshev chưa bao h rời khỏi Liên Xô, phương tây chỉ biết đến ông chủ yêu qua các bản ghi âm để lại. Đồ rằng, việc cố nhét Lemeshev vào chỉ để BBC tỏ vẻ khách quan với nền nghệ thuật thanh nhạc Xô Viết hơn là đánh giá thực chất tài năng của ông. Điều này hơi lố, nhưng vẫn thấy vui, vì trong bất cứ ngành nghệ thuật nào, Liên Xô cũng luôn có 1 đại diện xuất sắc bên cạnh những tượng đài thế giới.

John McCormack

Bài này viết cho chị Mèo thôi, hẹn khi nào viết riêng 1 list 20 tenor cho riêng Tia Sáng, với phong cách đứng đắn đường hoàng hơn, chứ dùng list của bọn BBCMM này làm j`, chuối mắn. Đã thống nhất với ku Phúc không đưa lên 4rum, vì hậu quả của cái list 20 sop lần trước khiến có quá nhiều mem nghĩ rằng cái list đấy là chuẩn mực, up lên đây để mua vui giải trí cho mọi người. Nhạc nhẽo up sau.
