 2001: Dani Pedrosa competía en la categoría de 125cc y disputó dieciseis carreras. No obtuvo ninguna victoria pero estuvo en el podium en dos ocasiones. Consiguió 100 puntos y se clasificó octavo.

2002: Pedrosa continuó compitiendo para la categoría de 125cc, disputó también dieciseis carreras y consiguió nueve podiums y tres victorias. Con 243 puntos quedó tercero en la clasificación.

2003: Pedrosa en su tercer año en la categoría de 125cc disputó catorce carreras de las cuales cinco fueron victoria, y seis podiums. Con 223 puntos ganó su primer mundial de motociclismo correspondiente a esa categoría.

 2004: Pedrosa se cambió de categoría. En su primer año con 250cc disputó dieciseis carreras. De esas dieciseis, consiguió la victoria en siete ocasiones, y estuvo en trece podiums. Con 317 puntos se posicionó primero ganando así el mundial de motociclismo de 250cc.

2005: prosiguiendo en la misma categoría (250cc) el motociclista ganó la mitad de las dieciseis carreras disputadas. Además, estuvo en el podium en once ocasiones más. Consiguió 309 puntos. A pesar de tener menos puntos que el año anterior se proclamó por segundo año consecutivo campeón mundial de motociclismo en la categoría de 250cc.

2006: Dani Pedrosa se pasó a la categoría reina, MotoGP. Disputó diecisiete carreras de las cuales obtuvo sólo dos victorias, ocho podiums. En total, sumó 215 puntos clasificándose quinto.

2007: en MotoGP disputó quince carreras y obtuvo dos victorias y ocho podiums al igual que el año anterior. Sin embargo, consiguió 27 puntos más y quedó en segundo lugar.

2008: en la misma categoría, tan sólo disputó once carreras. Aun así obtuvo al igual que los dos años anteriores dos victorias y ocho podiums. Apenas consiguió 171 puntos y se clasificó tercero.

2009: disputó catorce carreras y consiguió la victoria de dos de ellas junto con otros ocho podiums.  Este año, con 234 puntos, Dani Pedrosa se clasificó tercero.

Si os digo la verdad, rara vez he ganado -y tampoco es que gane muchas veces- una partida por un concepto diferente que el de puntuación. Por ello “peto” e inflo todo lo que puedo cada ciudad que crean mis civilizaciones (¿quizás precisamente por esto último no consig  más y diferentes victorias?…). Está claro que población, superficie y número de soldados son los factores clave. Ahora ando embarcado en quizás la primera partida en nivel de “Noble” en que me estoy desenvolviendo bien (lagos, enorme, épica), y al menos en la versión anterior del Civ IV (Warlords, he cambiado de portátil y por diversas circunstancias que no vienen a cuento no cuento conmigo con todos los DVDs), me encuentro que el factor ejército cuenta con una importancia desmedida:

Stephanie M. Seymour (born July 23, 1968) is an American model and actress. Seymour has modeled for many notable fashion magazines and designers, and has been photographed by several well-known photographers including Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, and Gilles Bensimon. She has appeared on over 300 magazine covers.

Career
Born in San Diego, California, the middle child of a California real estate-developer father and hairstylist mother, Seymour started her modeling career working for local newspapers and department stores in her hometown at the age of 14. In 1983, she entered the Elite Model Management Look of the Year modeling contest (now called Elite Model Look), but lost.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Seymour appeared in numerous issues of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and appeared on the cover of Vogue. During the same period, Seymour was a primary lingerie and hosiery model for the relatively new Victoria’s Secret company in its mail-order catalogs and retail stores. In 1991 and again in 1994, Seymour posed for Playboy.

In 1998, she wrote Stephanie Seymour’s Beauty Secrets for Dummies. In 2000, Seymour was ranked #91 on the FHM 1000 Sexiest Women of 2000. In 2006, she appeared in a campaign for Gap with her children.

Salvatore Ferragamo’s creative campaign for his fall/winter 2007/2008 collection featured Seymour and Claudia Schiffer, shot on location in Italy with Mario Testino. In the promotional photos, the supermodels play film stars protected by bodyguards and pursued by the paparazzi.

Acting
In 2000, Seymour played Helen Frankenthaler in the movie Pollock. In 2002 she played the role of Sara Lindstrom in the “Crazy” episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Personal life
At the age of 16, she began dating John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management, who was, at the time, married to model Jeanette Christjansen. The couple lived together before Seymour broke off the relationship.

From 1989 to 1990 she was married to guitarist Tommy Andrews. The marriage failed, but resulted in the birth of her first son, Dylan Thomas Andrews in 1990.

By mid 1991, she became involved with Axl Rose, the lead singer of Guns N’ Roses. She appeared in two music videos by Guns N’ Roses: “Don’t Cry” and “November Rain”. The couple broke up in February 1993 after Rose accused Seymour of being unfaithful. In August 1994, Rose sued Seymour for assaulting him during a 1992 Christmas party, mental and emotional abuse, and for withholding $100,000 worth of jewelry. Rose claimed he and Seymour were engaged. In turn, Seymour countersued Rose for assaulting her and denied they were ever engaged.

Shortly after her break up with Rose, Seymour began dating Peter Brant, a married publisher and real estate developer. She gave birth to the couple’s first son (her second) Peter Jr. in December 1993. Seymour and Brant married in 1995 in France. Seymour gave birth to their second son Harry in 1996 and to their third child, daughter Lily Margaret, in 2004. In March 2009, Seymour filed for divorce from Brant after 14 years of marriage.

OK I admit my birthday isn’t until the 20th but companies have been sending me gift certificates in the mail all week. So today I decided as a reward for a job well done on my Women In American History test that I would go and cash in my freebies. The only thing I paid for today was my Tazo Iced Green Tea with Lemongrass that cost me $2.14. Nothing beats the feeling of going into a store and walking out with stuff without paying a dime! You too can do the same without drawing the attention of store security or alarms. So how did I score these wonderful items for free? It’s as easy as signing up for a store’s email list. That’s all you have to do! Just compile a list of your favorite places to shop and login to their website and look for an email/snail mail sign-up link. It’s a safe bet that your favorite store offers this feature. Not only will they send you a certificate for free stuff on your birthday, but they will send you free samples, discount coupons and early access to stuff that no one else knows about. This service is best utilized if you check your email often or if you have a smartphone like a BlackBerry or an iPhone.

For this Freebie Fest I went to my favorite mall in the entire state of Texas - NorthPark Center. Located in the heart of Dallas, it is very chic and inviting at the same time. As an added bonus, it has all of the stores that I needed to go to for this freebie excursion. As a Hijabi, I prefer this mall over the Dallas Galleria because the people that work in the stores have been so much more friendlier and accommodating to me.

Birthday freebies

My first stop was in Sephora. I don’t think there are words in the English language that describe my love of Sephora. It is without a doubt a woman’s playground. The Sephora at NorthPark is by far my favorite one because the staff is so friendly and they actually remember your name!  That’s not exactly a common occurrence when your name is Huda, in case you were wondering.  There’s this woman named Annie with a heavy NY accent that works as a consultant that I absolutely adore! If you wear a headscarf chances are she will say Salaam to you! Don’t be alarmed if this happens because she’s married to a Palestinian man and lived with him in Kuwait for 10 years. Since I was just in Sephora last week and scored a bunch of goodies using my Friends & Family discount, I decided to simply pick my freebie and leave. I didn’t even have to give the clerk any gift card. I simply showed her my Beauty Insider Card and BAM my birthday freebie was in the bag. Every year Sephora changes the gift so it’s nice to have variety. This year’s gift is a Sephora Super Shimmer Lip Gloss Trio. It’s basically 3 lip glosses in different shades of pink. Very nice – I can’t wait to try them on

♪ On To The Next One ♪

My next stop was at Victoria’s Secret. Most of you know all about the coupon they sent out for free underwear but little know that you can get more than that for your birthday. They sent me a gift card for $10 off of any purchase with no minimum purchase requirement. So it was basically a $10 giftcard. That amount doesn’t leave with much of an option so your best bet is is the bath and body section. Because I didn’t want to spend a penny of my own money, I decided on a Vanilla & Sandalwood Moisture-Rich Body Wash from their new Natural line. Hey you can never have too many body washes!

My next freebie came from Lush. For those that don’t have a Lush near them or have never been inside of one, it is in my opinion the second best soap shop on the planet. The first being any place in Palestine that sells Nabulsi soap, of course! Since I don’t have access to Nabulsi soaps here in America, I get my fix at Lush. As a Muslim, cleanliness and taking showers is a very important part of the religion no naturally I love to experiment with different kinds of soaps. This store is pure heaven for soap enthusiasts like myself. Because it sticks with the theme of cleanliness that Islam preaches, you can never go wrong with a Eid gift from Lush for your friends and family. The most amazing part about Lush, besides the obviously yummy scents, is that everything is handmade and made up of natural ingredients. I haven’t gotten any kind of birthday coupon from Lush but I have a stockpile of product bottles that were empty that I was able to return in exchange for an organic homemade fresh face mask! You simply bring in any 5 packages of any Lush product and get any face mask for free. I love Lush’s face masks because they are clay-based, something in which I don’t have access to. They are also very fresh so it must be refrigerated at all times. They have a large variety of face masks, many of which I have already tried and loved. I went in with the intention of getting the Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask but sadly they were out! Instead I got Cupcake Face Mask, which is made of rhassoul mud, chocolate, and many essential oils. I haven’t used it yet but if it’s like any of the other face masks I’m sure I’m going to love it. The price of this face mask would have ordinarily have cost $12 so YAY for not paying a penny!

My final freebie of the day came from yet another skincare/perfume/aromatherapy/haircare nirvana called Aveda. I call this place nirvana because it smells like you’ve stepped foot in India. I must confess that I have never been in Aveda but I signed up for their mailing list because it looked so interesting while window-shopping one day. I’m so glad I did because as it turns out Aveda gave me the sweetest birthday deal of the day! As soon as you enter the store you are warmly greeted by an employee and a cup of really yummy tea. I think mine had fennel, licorice root, and peppermint – all organic. I have to say I usually hate those ingredients but it was surprisingly very good. As soon as the sales clerk saw the birthday gift certificate in my hand she lit up like fireworks! I could really tell that she loves doing this part of the job. She took me to a table where I was going to choose my own personal fragrance. FOR FREE! HOW AWESOME IS THAT! So this is how it works: you close your eyes and you are given different scents to choose. They compare two at a time and you tell them which one smells better until you have gotten 7 different essential oils mixed together. Then you choose in what form you would like it in. They offer a body scrub, body wash, body lotion, and pure perfume oil. I decided to go with the body lotion. Like body washes, you can never have enough body lotion! This by far was the most pampering gift of the day. The entire experience felt like a gift in itself. Not only did I get a free personalized scent that no one else has, but I also felt like I was being pampered in a spa! I say run, don’t walk, to your nearest Aveda today.

So how much does it all add up to? I would venture to say somewhere between $55-$65 dollars. Paying nothing for it all is absolutely priceless!

If you are like me and you know you have very little willpower, meaning you just know that you cannot control the urge to purchase something in addition to the freebies, then do what I did today and leave your money at home! I am so glad I did because I was ready to buy a whole lotta stuff and that would have defeated the purpose of my entire trip. It’s a much more gratifying feeling when you pay absolutely nothing for nice things to pamper yourself with. This is definitely a way to spoil yourself without hurting your wallet.
