Lisa and I got hooked on the Muppets when our kids were little.  We would be watching Sesame Street with them and then we look around and the kids had gone off to play and Lisa and i were still watching.

Lots of people were following Jesus.  Most just wanted to see Him do miracles and hear some incredible teachings, but some, really wanted to be His followers, His disciples.  Jesus said to them, “Before we go up this hill, there are some things you need to know.  It’s not easy to follow me.”

I struggle with the fact that, in our American world, we are surrounded by Christians in every arena who are silent about their convictions.  I believe most are silent because they are unsure.  They are unsure, not in their salvation, but in the power of their faith. 

Why?  They are not living their faith.  One has to live it to know it.  Faith is a LEAP.  You have to Listen to God through the Word, others, and the Spirit.  Then you have to Engage and live it out in your mind, values and convictions.  Then it is important to actually Apply the Word of truth to your every day life.  And when you do, you will Produce the fruits of the Spirit.   L.E.A.P

the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!  Gal 5:22

When you produce Christian Spiritual fruit you will become more confident to live and speak your convictions.  You can not convincingly present someone you are not.

I discovered a website today ( or i think it discovered me?). 

  Included in it were some written and some video blog posts. 

  I found myself being strongly, kind of ‘pulled into’ the vibe of the thing, the woman whose site it is has (for me) an extremely strong psychic sort of  presence that was very compelling.   Much of what she speaks of is quite familiar to me, having spent so many years of my life investigating, exploring, experimenting and searching.. but most of all experiencing those deeper elements of life.  

It just reminded me of the person i ‘was’ and highlighted to me (as if i needed it highlighted!) just how far removed i have become from myself!

But… what am i going to do about it?!!!?

Oh.. i wont name the site just yet… …  let me see how it goes for a little while

Christians have a problem.  Many people avoid Christians because Christians don’t act like Christ.  People were drawn to Christ becaus of His joy.  If Christians were to be more joyful like Christ, people would be drawn to Christians.

Ciao a tutti. Sono molto felice di essere qui con voi in questo video-blog numero zero, novità che avevamo giorni fà annunciato da questo sito. Stiamo cercando gradualmente di fare belle e importanti cose per voi. Cose che coinvolgeranno una serie di temi e problematiche, a partire principalmente dalle ingiustizie. Da quelle grandi a quelle piccole nessuna esclusa, e che non riguarderanno solo quelle dei disabili, ma di tutti in generale. Insomma un immersione a 360 gradi su quello che ci ruota intorno. Poi mano mano verranno affrontati altri temi attinenti alla disabilità, informazioni varie. e quant’altro. Insomma un pò come accade per il “Passaparola” di Marco Travaglio (senza tuttavia essere un misera copia) ma a tutto campo. Dimenticatevi che parleremo di temi politici. Qui non è la sede e ne abbiamo intenzione di fare propaganda. La politica verrà trattata da istituzione a livello di  interlocutore, e non mancheranno critiche anche feroci per chi vuol fare orecchie da mercante.

Detto questo iniziamo ad occuparci del fatto che voglio esporre in questo video-blog. Oggi parliamo di una donna disabile che abita in provincia di Roma. Ha 40 anni e si chiama Alessandra Incoronato. Una che si definisce:” Sono disabile, ma felice e onorata di essere nata. Sono sposata e amo mio marito e questo mondo infinito. Dio è amore senza Lui dentro noi non c’è il sole che riscalda il nostro cuore. Sono ottimista e per questo dico a tutti che volere è potere..” Pochissimi sanno che Alessandra dal maggio scorso sta portando avanti una battaglia che la sta consumando fisicamente. Dal 25 maggio è in semi-sciopero della fame per protesta estrema contro le istituzioni politiche che l’hanno completamente ignorata. La sua lotta è cercare di aumentare la sua pensione che insieme all’indennità di accompagnamento arriva a malapena sui 700 euro mensili. E voi capite che con questa cifra con i tempi attuali di crisi economica e sociale in atto, sopravvivere con tutto quello che c’è da fare  per campare (mangiare, vestirsi, ma sopratutto il costo vivo di una batteria di ricambio per la carrozzina che in taluni casi arriva anche oltre i 300 euro, senza dimenticarci delle bollette da pagare) è veramente arduo e difficile. Per questo Alessandra chiede aiuto a queste istituzioni politiche che non l’hanno mai ascoltata. Così come i media (tv e carta stampata) che tranne in un caso esposto nell “indignato speciale” di Canale 5, non hanno speso neanche un rigo. E a parte la nostra associazione e pochissimi altri, neanche le altre associazioni importanti dei disabili si sono occupati del caso in questione. Le sue denunce, ma anche il suo stato di salute, tutto documentato, tutto chiaro come la luce del sole. Dove si vede la vera sofferenza nell’animo ma anche tanta serenità nell’andare avanti in modo determinato fino alla fine. E di questo bisogna tenerne conto. Leggete le sue parole, guardate i suoi video. Alessandra ha ragione quando parla della monnezza che fanno vedere i media attualmente. Io aggiungo di mio, che in tanti telegiornali finti si da più risalto alla foca marina che a certi casi.

Per questo oggi voglio dare massimo risalto e voce a Alessandra, promettendo quanto detto a lei qualche tempo fa che sono disposto a incontrarla personalmente insieme al Presidente ADB Rutigliano, visto che Alessandra ricopre anch’essa la carica di Presidente dell’Associazione “Diritto alla vita” di Santa Marinella in provincia di Roma, e insieme cercare di trovare un idea in comune da proporre a questo governo in letargo da sempre su queste problematiche. Voglio chi mi ascolta, vada a leggere o conoscere Alessandra che potete trovare anche su Facebook. Questo è un mio piccolo e modesto contributo per questa causa che merita massimo rispetto e che dovrà trovare soluzione. Credo che si possa vincere stando uniti senza inutili protagonismi che possono far male su questo aspetto di lotta.

In conclusione, con questo numero zero sono stato veramente contento di parlare a gente per bene come sono sicuramente quelli che si appassioneranno alla storia di Alessandra. Noi ci rivedremo la settimana prossima in giorno da definire magari con un video-blog straordinario per eventuali aggiornamenti anche sull’altro caso che abbiamo diffusamente discusso su questo blog, quello di Salvatore Usala detto Sasà. Noi dell’ADB siamo partiti, e voi siete il nostro motore, vi saluto affettuosamente e seguiteci sempre..se potete.

I had another “first experience” gardening this week, I planted garlic. Here is a very quick video to capture the essence of garlic planting. I planted an organically grown garlic clove that I bought at a roadside vegetable stand here in San Diego.

A few facts about garlic:

* Garlic is great for growing in containers.

* November is a good time to plant garlic.

* Co-plant or “companion plant” garlic next to lettuce, cabbage, roses, apple trees, beets and carrots. The garlic will act as an organic pest repellant keeping aphids, root fly and snails away. This is a great way to organically keep your garden as pest free as possible without using harmful chemicals.

Whew! I hustled hard to get this up. But it was a good time. As the title suggests, I give my thoughts on how I reckon UFC 106 will play out. I’d have to say Koscheck/Johnson was the toughest to call. I am a fan and a believer in Kos, but I don’t think the guy often makes the best use of his skills. He loves to slug and just doesn’t seem to incorporate his wrestling into his game plan as much as I’d like. Hopefully he’s got his mind right this time ’round ’cause Johnson is for real.

There’s always someone who wants to talk to a cameraman — the trick is getting a sound bite you can use.

When you ask people what they want in life, most will say:  “I just want to be happy.”  We want our kids to be happier than we are.  People naturally aim for happy.  The problem with aiming for happiness is that happiness is situational and it is temporary, based on our current situation.  The Bible teaches us that what we need is joy.  Joy comes from the inside.  Joy is a state of mind or of the soul and it transcends the situational. 

Joy is internal and it is eternal.  This past Sunday I taught a teaching called, “Drawn by Joy.”  This is ten minutes of that teaching, Part 1.  The rest will follow.

November 16th 2009 The City of Fort Myers welcomed their newest Mayor into office today with the official swearing in ceremony conducted at this afternoons Fort Myers City Council meeting.

At the conclusion of the event Fort Myers Mayor Randall “Randy” Henderson, City Manager William “Billy” Mitchell, and the Fort Myers City Council hopped on board a City of Fort Myers Fire Department Engine and Tower Ladder that were SHUT DOWN and PURPOSELY TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE in addition to the other units already closed and shut down due to “supposed” budget cuts.

Available for members of the general public was a large commercial passenger van but the City Officials felt it necessary to further reduce public safety and poke fun at the Firefighters who were staging a protest picketing the “Welcome the New Mayor” event being held at the Harborside Events Center in the River District of the City of Fort Myers as a result of recent fire department cutbacks and layoffs.

The City Officials chose to layoff Firefighters, reduce engine and truck company staffing below NFPA 1710, close two RESCUES and one LADDER, in addition to reducing daily staffing from 33 Firefighters to 21 Firefighters per 24 tour of operation.

Firefighters chose this venue and time since all who made the decisions to reduce public safety were in attendance at the event in addition to other local dignitaries.
