Let’s face it, there is a TON of stuff on the Internet.
You might see a funny video one day, and 3 weeks later someone says something that reminds you of that video. Wouldn’t it be great if you had that video downloaded to your machine, so you didn’t have to scour YouTube again trying to remember the exact title?
Or say a new hit song is out and you love it so much you want to listen to it over and over? Songs that are stuck in my head seem to only leave if I listen to the song in question 5-10x in a row. Then I’m sick of it for awhile and don’t catch myself humming it for a couple weeks.
Just maybe a friend of yours with a camera was recording pedestrians slipping on ice outside your dorm building, and he grabbed your likeness and posted it online (true story). He might not leave it up forever, and you’d love to add it to your Facebook for all your loved ones to see.
Well these are all possible. There are a ton of tools out there that’ll download videos from YouTube and YouTube-like sites. When this idea first popped in my head to try, I found an extension to Firefox that does the job. Firefox has since taken a second fiddle to my new main web browser, but that’s for another post entirely. The extension is called Video DownloadHelper. All you do is go to the URL of the video in
question, and the icon starts spinning. Click on it, and it shows you alist of videos it can grab from that page. You click on it and tell it where to download to, and away it goes. This works on YouTube, Vimeo, and numerous other video sites.
But wait, that doesn’t fix everything. YouTube videos are typically stored in FLV file format. My computer doesn’t like that format. Most of my videos are WMV or AVI. Well along comes a program called Format Factory. You select one video, a bunch of videos, or an entire folder,and it’ll convert all of them to your video format of choice.
I did say something about listening to songs, didn’t I? Music groups have the darndest time with YouTube. Any fan can play their song from the CD or radio and lip sync to it and throw it out there. If their managers aren’t searching regularly for it, their music gets out there and out of their control very quickly. Format Factory comes in handy yet again. It can convert that same video (or group of videos, or folder of videos) to MP3s or numerous other audio formats. So if you just like the
song in the background of a video, grab it and listen at your own discretion without worrying about having an Internet connection and finding the video again.
Let me state it this way: I found out that I have the capability to do this, but I don’t do it very often. I have a couple other ways I use to hold videos for a period of time to share with others, and this isn’t always my cup of tea. Plus, it’s always better if you like what a particular artist is making to go ahead and invest in their continued music-making. I’m not advocating piracy or short-changing talented people. I’m just saying, with a process like the one here, you can watch and share that cool video at your leisure. And saving it to your Desktop might just remind you to visit their site and see if they have anything new.

Los que quieran pueden bajarlos con la extension para FireFox Video DownloadHelper o directamente con jDownloader y convertirlos a MP4 y luego verlos en un excelente reproductor como KMPlayer el cual ya trae integrados los codecs para la mayoria de formatos de video.

Igual continuamos buscando adeptos al proyecto de traduccion de toda la serie… aun no a la velocidad que lo ha hecho este guardián. Ahora con las vacaciones de la U le puedo dedicar de nuevo tiempo al proyecto.

Facebook è una realtà anche per chi lavora in azienda o nella pubblica amministrazione: qualcuno sta già pensando di oscurarlo perchè fa calare la produttività. Te lo immagini un impiegato delle Poste fare un poke su Facebook mentre ha davanti una fila lunghissima di persone? Credo che questa sia una favoletta alla quale crederanno in pochi. Così come quella sugli effetti collaterali di Facebook

Gli utenti che usano Facebook sono persone che finora non si erano mai avvicinate così tanto alla Rete: il che se da un lato è positivo perchè invoglia ad usare nuovi strumenti, ad alfabetizzarsi informaticamente, da un altro porta dei comportamenti che chi già abita Internet considera, direi con un po’ di supponenza, fastidiosi.
Mi ha impressionato ad esempio il progetto Palantir nato da Facebook Hackaton: guarda questo video che visualizza tutti i dati ricevuti da Facebook provenienti da tutto il mondo. I diversi colori rappresentano le varie azioni che si possono fare su Facebook come aggiungere nuovi amici, inserire video:

Su Facebook infatti si trovano a volte dei video (lo stesso discorso vale per le foto) che neanche Youtube ti propone. Spesso fanno parte della sfera personale delle persone, dei rapporti d’amicizia coltivati nel reale: il filmato della tua prima comunione conservato da tuo cugino, la partita di calcetto del tuo storico gruppo d’amici quando abitavi in quella città, quella cena nella quale hai incontrato la persona della quale poi ti sei innamorato. Tutti questi contenuti restano su Facebook, in funzione della privacy che hai configurato vengono condivisi con i tuoi amici o con l’intera comunità.
Non credere che non ci sia un controllo su ciò che carichi, Facebook può cancellare le pagine degli utenti anche se per come sono scritte ora le condizioni generali qualcuno potrebbe anche fargli causa.

Come scaricare i video da Facebook? Ci sono due procedure che possono usare i più smanettoni (indipendentemente se si usa Firefox ed Explorer) ed altre due per chi è più pigro (ed usa Firefox).

1) Se usi Internet Explorer 7 o versoni precedenti cancella i file temporanei con la funzione “Elimina Tutto” (cancellerà anche password e cookie) presente in “Strumenti” – “Opzioni Internet” – “Elimina”, vai verso il video di Facebook che vuoi scaricare e guardalo tutto fino all’ultimo secondo.

Quindi accedi alla Cronologia attraverso “Strumenti” – “Opzioni Internet” – “Cronologia Esplorazioni” – “Visualizza File” – “Impostazioni” e cerca un file che abbia un nome simile a “1054611643714_25704″ (un file di larghe dimensioni con un nome abbastanza lungo ed estensione sconosciuta). Questo file è il nostro video, rinominalo aggiungendo l’estensione *.mp4 per farlo aprire da un software come VLC (o in alternativa *.FLV per FLV player).

2) Se usi Firefox, esegui la stessa procedura di Internet Explorer. Elimina tutti i file temporanei (”Strumenti – “Elimina i dati personali”), guarda tutto il video su Facebook, vai su “Start” -“Esegui” e scrivi %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles per recarti al tuo profilo di Firefox.
Nella finestra appena comparsa, cerca la cartella “Cache” e ordina per dimensione i file. Il filmato, sarà quello con il nome simile a “2C22BD55d01“, rinominalo come *.mp4 o *.FLV ed aprilo con i relativi player.

Se non ti va di smanettare con le cartelle ed i browser ci sono due add-ons per Firefox che ti permettono facilmente di fare il download dei video di Facebook.

3) Facebook Video è un’estensione per Firefox che aggiunge un link all’interfaccia di Facebook. Clicca su “install” ed al termine dell’installazione riavvia Firefox. Ora apri Facebook e vai sul video che vorresti scaricare (magari è sul news feed, in qualche gruppo o pagina, nel tuo profilo): noterai la possibilità di integrare questo video presente su Facebook sul tuo sito, convertirlo oppure scaricarlo direttamente sul computer cliccando su “download video”.

Fantastico e decisamente più comodo non trovi? Lo stesso Facebook Video è stato sviluppato come script su Greasemonkey dunque lo puoi usare anche su Internet Explorer ed Opera.

4) Non ti piace Facebook Video ma vuoi usare un’altra estensione? Beh, prova Video DownloadHelper: è uno strumento creato per scaricare video da qualsiasi pagina web quindi anche Facebook.

Perhaps the most visually pleasing thing i’ve ever seen for firefox, this program creates a 3D wall of images for a search of a wealth of sites: yahoo flcker amazon youtube… just search something and drool a little. its visually pleasing, and will ohh and awe people but the lack of support for other sites brings it down a little on my efficiency list, but definitely worth it if you are the type that dresses to impress and this program is a bit of a resource hog so same caveat as before newer comp…sigh…

For those of you who have ever been to a website and needed to download a bunch of pictures, files or other things. this program will save you that time, it allows you to type in extensions to narrow down files and download them in one click. So if you need to download a bunch of word documents just type in .doc in the extension and it’ll do it for you, it has many extensions already categorized, pictures (jpeg gif png) videos (mp4 wmv avi) and music (mp3 wma wav) so go at it!
It also has a GREAT download manager, so if you have crappy wifi or something, this allows you to pause, (TRULY pause) a download and start it up again, it also has a download accelerator that keeps your downloads going at the fastest pace possible. And for sites that only allow one download at a time, you can change the behavior of download helper to only download one file at a time, thus not timing out the download. works great for sites like megaupload, really helps in not waiting 45 seconds for every new download

Just been trying out the grab feature for Halo 3 videos over at GameVee.com, a tool that will grab any video that you have uploaded in your Halo 3 file share. Its pretty nifty, I tried a short video and they result is below.

I couldn’t embed the GameVee video directly it into this page due to the limitations of using the free WordPress.com blog, so I exported the video using Video DownloadHelper Firefox extension, then uploaded to Youtube, which is supported.

Já faz varios anos que utilizo o Firefox. Ele é simplesmente o melhor navegador que já encontrei. Já utilizei Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Konqueror e Safari mas nenhum deles satisfez minhas necessidades como o Firefox. Descartei logo o IE por não ter
