Patrick Corbin got his 7th win in the first of three with a 5-1 win. The next two games didn’t go as well with the D-backs losing game 2 in a F/10 4-5 lose and a 1-4 lose in the 3rd game.

I have played several of the Tomb Raider games and when I initially heard of the 2013 reboot, I was

I have played several of the Tomb Raider games and when I initially heard of the 2013 reboot, I was pretty excited, wary but excited. I was nervous because the last few Tomb Raider games seemed kind of lack luster.

So my roommate and I went in together and bought the game for the house.

Ok I have to warn everyone out there, when you first start the game prepare to be frustrated. The controls are hard to maneuver and your combat level is really low. It feels like a struggle. Which is exactly how I think it was meant to feel.

I have yet to finish the game, but even now a little more than half way through, I have a different outlook on the game.

Seriously, when I first started it, I was dying left and right and there were too many people, the odds were always against me.

But, as you progress, you gain skills, weapons, combat experience and better control of the character.

I was taking on several guys after losing the majority of my weapons and I realized I was doing pretty well. I felt the controls were less spastic, even Lara had a change in attitude. In the beginning she was very hesitant and continually doubted if she could do whatever it was she was about to do. Then, as the adventure grew harder and darker she was changing, now giving herself self affirmations, “I can do this.” At the point of game I am currently playing, Lara’s whole outlook has done a 360. In one moment she actually screams, “That’s right run, I’m coming for you!”

The turn around is great, especially for a reboot. I almost started to not like the game because of the controls starting out, but in retrospect it was a smart decision. To literally feel like your helpless, and you actually doubt Lara builds the story and makes for a more realistic gameplay. At 18, Lara would not start out immediately as this brutal fighter, but develop into one. This game tells THAT story.

So if you started Tomb Raider and abandoned it for reasons I almost did, or if you were too wary to even pick it up, I urge you to give it a chance. The plot is great, the character development is some of the best and the tombs are beautiful. And trust me the controls get better.

If you have a playstation 3 and fifteen bucks to spend, I encourage you to look in the playstation o

If you have a playstation 3 and fifteen bucks to spend, I encourage you to look in the playstation online store for a game simply called Journey. It is an indie game like no other. I would like to share an experience with you, which touched me in a way I never thought possible.

In simple terms, Journey is both title and description. It isn’t a long game: getting everything and making it to the end might cost an hour and a half of your time. There is no dialog, no combat, and only one goal. You must travel toward an eerie, somewhat ominous light atop a mountain in the distance. There are no real puzzles to solve, and though you can travel with another player, you have no way of communicating with them outside of little chirps.

The game is structured so that, at any one time, you can travel with just one other person. This person remains anonymous until the end of the game, where their player id is finally revealed. You might meet just one and go the whole way with them, or you may meet many others. Advancing is not dependent on teaming up. Everything can easily be done playing solo.

Though simplistic, Journey packs an emotional punch. This goes beyond just the story to the partners you meet in many cases. Today, my partner came very close to making me openly weep.

We met in the bridge area, and I was greeted with enthusiastic chirps. We jumped and flew around the area (you possess limited flying abilities, which grow as you collect glowing glyphs) and generally just had a good time of exploring the area. We chirped at each other, and when it came time to move on, we moved on together.

At times he got too far ahead, and I lost sight. I would chirp, and he would wait for me to catch up. Sometimes he would even come back for me. Often this involved sacrificing progress he made on his travel. When we reached a stage involving activating murals that filled the chamber up with energy that allowed us to move on, I was surprised when he didn’t run toward the mural. Instead, he helped me ascend the chamber without activating a single one. It was difficult. It was time consuming.

It was worth it.

Though it took us nearly twice as long, I had never felt so absorbed. In the eight times going through it the easy way, it became routine. A routine all my previous partners adhered to. This person showed me a new way that, to be honest, thrilled me.

As we came to the end of our journey, we made the final ascent together. All we had to do then was was forward, and watched the credits roll. But he started running back the way we came. I was confused, of course. He started running around, and I didn’t understand, until I finally looked down. He’d drawn a heart in the sand as he ran. He retraced it, over and over.

Though I wasn’t able to get a screenshot at the time, I found this picture which perfectly illustrated that moment. I will keep this forever.

I couldn’t think of any other way to express how I felt other than to run and trace the heart myself. After this, we walked toward the light side by side, chirping all the while. I was close to tears when the credits rolled. I didn’t want to cry in front of my husband, of course. He sees that enough sometimes.

The strength of this game lies not only in its beautiful graphics and strange ability to draw you in with no words or clear story (the story is based on player interpretation). The vastness of the desert and snowfields, the desolation, the sheer openness of the world you travel, invokes loneliness. There have been previous playthroughs in which my partner quit playing and left me alone, and I remember feeling so lonely. Though strategically a partner serves no purpose, the benefit goes beyond something so superficial. It is the benefit of company and shared experience.

The message behind all this? We both wanted someone by our side, to share our journey, and it didn’t matter what our age, gender, sexuality, or any of those trivial matters were. We were on a journey, brought together by some random chance. Though we will end up no doubt playing through many more times, the memory is one I am going to love moat if all. A stranger with nothing to gain wanted me at their side to share a journey. Though we couldn’t speak to each other, he summed up the experience perfectly with that lovely heart in the sand.

If you have ever played Journey yourself, or any other game with multiplayer, what have been your best experiences?

Rather than let this blog lie fallow while I wait for some mythical “free time” to appear during which I can write something, why not use it to celebrate three particularly nice things that have happened this month?

1. Wolfsong, a lovely and sad animated short that features my voice work, was selected to be part of the 2013 CalArts Character Animation Program showcase. Held at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, this faculty-juried showcase is a heavily attended industry event, but Wolfsong animator Toniko Pantoja was kind enough to get tickets for his voice cast. It was great to meet Toniko in person and to have a chance to get to know fellow Wolfsong voice actor Lucien Dodge a little better. It’s thanks to Lucien’s referral that Toniko cast me as the mother wolf, and for that opportunity I will be forever grateful.

Wolfsong from Toniko Pantoja–A Vimeo Staff Pick

2. Dust: An Elysian Tail–until today an Xbox 360 exclusive–is now available on Steam. I’m the voice of elderly bunny Oneida and affable subterranean blobby lady FloHop. (The aforementioned Mr. Dodge plays the titular hero Dust, and a host of other friends and colleagues from the voiceover community round out the cast.) I’m thrilled that this beautiful, award-winning game from independent game designer and animator Dean Dodrill can now be enjoyed by a wider audience!

3. The entirely unrelated PS3 sci-fi shooter DUST 514 was released on 5/14 (see what they did there?). I’m the (American English) voice of the in-combat computer system in this free-to-play MMOFPS from CCP, as well as the voice of this trailer:

Now that I’ve blown some of the dust (sorry) off this long-neglected blog, maybe I’ll keep it a little more up to date from here on out. Hope springs eternal.

So you are having a good life. Everything seem’s so perfect, you’re happy, everything is

So you are having a good life. Everything seem’s so perfect, you’re happy, everything is going according to your plan & you start loving your life just because you have that one special person with you.

But, all of a sudden, everything came crashing down. You’re life is no more perfect, you’re no longer happy, you start hating your life, you don’t know where to go. You feel hopeless, you don’t want to talk to anyone, you wanna stay alone, you just wanna sit there & cry out loud but making sure no one is listening, you fake up you’re smile because you don’t want people to ask you what’s wrong, you feel like dying, you feel like you have lost everything, the whole world, or even your own life. You try to cheer yourself up, but somehow sadness finds you no matter where you go. You feel like shouting, you feel like throwing things, you wanna go far away from everyone, run away from all the problems & just cry cry & Cry.

That one person means to you more than your own life. You’re willing to do anything for that person, you try to make that person understand about your love & how pure it is, you try to convince them by harming yourself, you fight for them with the whole world, you do everything possible to please them. But that person just does not understand no matter what you do, how hard you try. You start losing hope, but at the same time you’re in high hopes that, that person will come back to you. At this point, you just feel like jumping off a building.

My friend let me remind you, we live in a World where people usually remember their god when they need something, so how can you expect them to be with you the whole time?.

Think, and just wait. Once your love is true, you will get it one day. If not today then tomorrow for sure, & hey if you made a promise you won’t ever leave that person. Please don’t break that promise no matter how hard it is, otherwise people won’t realize the value of a promise.

Plus this is not only about love life. You can relate it to normal life as well

This entire episode is devoted to one extremely frustrating part of Resident Evil 4, as Jeff and J.D. puzzle over how they managed to beat this part whenever they’ve previously played the game. It’s Wolverine 2: Decapitate Harder. Prepare to run around a treasure chest in a tiny cage over and over again.

So I feel like I should start adding some more personal information to this blog, make it a bit more

So I feel like I should start adding some more personal information to this blog, make it a bit more than just Rants and Reviews (which I do enjoy), it’s just I feel it sometimes may lack a personal feel, so I thought I’d keep everyone abreast of what I’ve got planned and what will hopefully come.

So right now I’m currently at University doing my end of year exams (going well, but slightly stressful). This hopefully will explain my lack of usual content. However I am right now sitting firm on 5 game reviews (Sleeping Dogs, Reciever, Dead Island, Proteus, Dear Esther).
A current idea I’m trying to work upon is actually a posibility of game t-shirts, more on those ideas to come the nearer I get to some sort of mark, ideally I want to make a kickstarter just purely to try my hand at it and get a product out there So as I said, more info to come as the project goes on.
Me and my old friend Usman plan on, during the summer holiday, getting back to our roots by streaming some gameplay which you can find on http://www.twitch.tv/chivalrousgamers I’ll let everyone know nearer the time. From these we plan on cutting out our highlights and putting those on youtube under the same username (anyone who want to help with that please do, anything from tips and advise to workloads). And from there we may take up podcasting again, however we may move from the Magical Fun Bus to a new podcast name, probably Chivalrous Gamers, this is as MFB was a thing I did with friends at Uni and that somewhat failed so I’d like a fresh start and keeping everything under one name will be easier.

Anyway those are most of my plans for the Summer and hopefully everyone will be looking forward to some of them if not all.
Thanks for reading

Dragons Crown is the new Side Scrolling Beat ‘em up, developed by Vanillaware, creators of Odi

Dragons Crown is the new Side Scrolling Beat ‘em up, developed by Vanillaware, creators of Odins Sphere (PS2) and Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii) and is being published by Atlus. Dragon’s Crown will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems for $49.99 and $39.99 respectively and is available for pre-orders now from major retailers. The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

Today they released new video’s and screen shots for two of their characters.

The Dwarf uses his brawn to fling enemies across the battlefield or his dual weapons to demolish foes where they stand. The Dwarf’s small stature is made up with acrobatic movement, as he catapults himself around the battlefield to close gaps or escape danger.

The Elf combines the power of nature with the deadly sniping capabilities of a ranger. She can charge her bow with elemental power to rain destruction on enemies, but players need to be mindful of the number of arrows in her quiver. When enemies get up close and personal, she uses lightning-quick kicks and slides to neutralize the danger and can backflip to safety.

Pre-orders and first-run printings will include the 64-page full color Dragon’s Crown Artworks book, pictured below:

Illustration by Patrick Truby || rembrandtofroundball.tumblr.com The big story on everyone’s l

Illustration by Patrick Truby || rembrandtofroundball.tumblr.com

The big story on everyone’s lips right now is the decision of Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel to sit his star center, Roy Hibbert, in the closing seconds of the first game of the Eastern Conference finals. A week ago, the hottest, and most beloved, story among both fans and insiders had been the emergence of Stephen Curry and the overachieving Golden State Warriors. The common theme between these two plotlines? Short dudes (relatively, anyway).

Vogel sat Hibbert out of concern that his 7’2 center wouldn’t be able to keep up with the Heat’s Chris Bosh — a skinny, smaller forward playing the center position — out in the perimeter. The Warriors, though they ultimately lost the series, played the San Antonio Spurs tougher than anyone outside of the Bay Area or the Curry household could have ever imagined, and they did so by using unconventional small lineups — some of which had 6’7 shooting guard Klay Thompson as the tallest member — consisting of four to five shooters on the court at all times.

The Spurs only turned the tide by eventually going small themselves.

This small lineup style of play — in short, spacing the floor with shooters who rely on drive-and-kick and pick-and-roll action to create open looks — was first utilized by former NBA coach Don Nelson, who unleashed a go-go-go offense with the Milwaukee Bucks in the late 80s and then twice with the Golden State Warriors: the Run TMC era in the 90s and the “We Believe” Warriors of 2007. Initially dubbed “Nellieball” before becoming “smallball”, the strategy was a hit with casual fans but mostly dismissed by coaches, analysts and serious hoopheads as a gimmicky approach that wouldn’t yield longterm success. “Video game style basketball,” they derisively labeled it. But still it persisted. Check out this quote from Nelson’s assistant, Larry Riley, in a 2007 New York Times article:

“That would be ideal [if the Warriors would just get the ball and go.] If we had our choice, we would never run a play.”

As a lifelong gamer who has played just about every NBA game released over the last 20 years — from NBA Jam at the arcades to NBA Live 96 on the Super Nintendo to NBA Shootout 97 on Playstation to NBA 2K13 on the Xbox 360 today — Riley’s quote sums up the attitude of myself and most people I’ve played with, or against, on digital courts.

Just get the ball and go.

Most basketball video gamers have always heavily emphasized shooting. It’s a fact borne out by video game message boards, like Operation Sports, where you can always find snobs who claim they play their digital team exactly like its real life counterparts, and sneer at people who “jack up threes nonstop.” But you can’t blame us for just getting the ball and go, really. In the early days of NBA video games—say, Konami’s Double Dribble—all you really could do was shoot. The games weren’t advanced enough to introduce many other basketball aspects. You weren’t going to be pulling off intricate post moves with just two buttons on the Nintendo controller.

Though games, specifically the critically acclaimed NBA 2K series, have gotten really, really advanced the past decade — you can now, like, control your dribble moves and passes and even what shoes you wear — the simple fact remains that not all basketball traits are created equal on the digital platform. Despite the nuances developers have added to every aspect of the games — including post play ability, lateral movement on defense and passing skills — elite shooting ability (and elite dunking) still, and will always, translate better to games than other skills.

As a result, the most powerful digital NBA players are always the guys with high ratings in shooting or dunking, defensive efficiencies or height or basketball smarts be damned. (And if a digital player rates high in shooting and dunking, like Vince Carter circa 2001? It’s borderline cheating.)

I remember using the early 2000 Seattle SuperSonics in NBA Live and 2K: I’d move Rashard Lewis — a 6’10 sharpshooting small forward — to center and start Brent Barry (shooter) over Ruben Patterson (a rugged defender with no offensive game). Later, in the mid 2000s, I would use the Spurs and start Manu Ginobili at point guard (because Tony Parker couldn’t shoot) alongside Michael Finley, Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan and Robert Horry. My center, by title only, was Horry, who I kept stationed beyond the three point line, jacking longrange bombs left and right.

I would take that lineup online and hear snobs complain about how unrealistic it was.

Meanwhile, in real life, Don Nelson—and later Mike D’Antoni, whose Phoenix Suns in the mid 2000s had also adopted smallball—heard the same criticism. Charles Barkley, for one, must have bellowed a thousand variations of “you can’t win by just shooting three pointers” on Inside the NBA over the past decade. He was hardly alone. The majority of analysts, many of whom are former players, denounced smallball. That’s why Nelson and D’Antoni remain two of the most polarizing high-profile coaches of the past few decades.

Most of the detractors defended their point by preaching several bits of basketball conventional wisdom:

–You live by the three, you die by the three (don’t over-rely on threes).

–You need two big men who can rebound and play in the post (size matters).

–Midrange game is an art form that should be mastered (Michael Jordan, the greatest, was almost exclusively a midrange shooter in his final few years with the Bulls).

It’s understandable why they thought that way at the time. All of us who grew up playing the game heard those things in basketball camps. But thanks to the NBA’s advanced metrics movement of recent years, we’re learning now that much of basketball’s conventional wisdom is outdated and flat-out false. Shooting a lot of threes is bad? Not true. Stats geeks have concluded that shooting a three is better than shooting a midrange jumper because, obviously, three points are greater than two, and also because a missed three results in more offensive rebounds than any other shot. It’s playing the numbers and odds, almost like a poker pro calculating his outs on an open-ended straight draw with two cards to come.

Here’s LeBron James, whose game has reached a new level of excellence this year, explaining to Grantland why he’s gotten better:

“You know, I changed. I didn’t shoot many 3s last year, I kind of played more in the post, and more in the midrange, but I felt like I worked on 3s enough this past offseason that I could make another change — and the least efficient shot in our game is the midrange shot — so I thought maybe I could move it out, improve my 3-point shooting, continue to work on my low-post scoring, and then leave the midrange to be my next journey.”

NBA teams have noticed this, as three point shooting in the league has gone up drastically: Back in 1987, one in 18 shots was a three pointer. Today, one in four shots is a three. Even as recently as 10 years ago, teams were averaging 14 three-point attempts per game. This season’s average? 20+ per team per game, and that number is steadily trending up.

So with NBA teams coming around to the fact that advanced metrics are to be taken seriously — and more and more teams are hiring advanced stats gurus to work in their front offices, with the Philadelphia 76ers’s hiring of Sam Hinkie being the most recent example — there has been a sea change in how a modern NBA team crafts its offense: Teams want to space the floor, take lots of threes and ideally use only one big man, because bigs are typically slower and lack shooting range.

Layne Murdoch Jr./NBAE via Getty Images

Most of the best teams in the NBA utilize this strategy. The Miami Heat started using James at power forward last year, and though Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks has been stubborn, all stats point to the Thunder being more dangerous when Kevin Durant shifts to the four. The New York Knicks, who just had their best season in some 15 years, used Carmelo Anthony in the same way. These teams, especially the Heat and the Knicks, do not have a single big man with a credible post-game on payroll. They zip the ball around the perimeter looking for an opening to either drive to the hoop or shoot a three pointer.

As mentioned earlier, the Spurs, who were befuddled by the Warriors’ attack through the first three to four games of the series, eventually joined the bandwagon: In the final, crucial minutes of their series-clinching game 6 win over the Warriors, coach Greg Popovich benched Tim Duncan in favor of a four-guard, one-big lineup. Real-life teams are now running the same sort of offenses as Nelson, D’Antoni and us video game ballers.

So sure, all those coaches, analysts, and serious hoopheads were right to call our style “video game ball”. But they were wrong to dismiss it.

Now, for the number one zombie map of all time, it’s Ascension. Ascension was included in the First Strike DLC along with four multiplayer maps in Black Ops. Ascension takes place in the abandoned Soviet Baikonur Cosmodrome located in the Ukraine. It is the only map to feature a black and white filter, which is on up until the power has been turned on. It is the first map to feature Russian zombies, being Scientists and Soldiers. It also introduces a new enemy, the Space Monkey, which come at there own rounds similar to Hellhounds, the Pentagon Thief, and Minions. What the space monkeys do is they attack the perk machines of perks that the player(s) have bought, and will continue to attack them until the perk is removed from there slot. At the end of each monkey round, there will always be a Max Ammo power up. If the player(s) has completed a monkey round with out losing any perks, they will receive a random perk bottle power up, and Max Ammo. Ascension also introduced the Sickle, which works exactly like the Bowie Knife, but was put in for cosmetic reasons. Ascension also introduced two knew perks; Stamin-Up, which increases the players sprint duration along, along with increasing sprint speed. The second perk introduced in this map is PhD Flopper, witch lets the player take no fall, or explosive damage, along with creating a “mini-nuke” when the player dives to prone. Ascension also introduced the Lunar Landers, which take the players from the three lander locations on the map to the spawn. Ascension also introduced two wonder weapons, the Gercsh Device, which acts as a secondary grenade, andwhen thrown creates a miniture black hole that suck in every zombie the map and lasts for about 5 seconds. The other wonder weapon introduced on this map is the Matryoshka Dolls. Matryoshka Dolls are also secondary grenades, and they will separate causing four explosions, which are very powerful. To Pack-A-Pucnh on this map, one will need to turn on the power, and use all three lunar landers, and then finally launch the rocket from the power room. If you like running trains on zombies, then you’ll enjoy this map. There are many different spots to run trains, some examples are; the 3 lunar lander spots, the Pack-A-Punch room, the area around the Pack-A-Pucnh room, etc. As with all Black Ops DLC maps, Ascension features it’s own easter egg. It being the Kassimir Mechanism easter egg. Basically,, the object of the easter egg is to free Gersch (the man heard at the beginning of the game). In the end, the Kassimir Mechanism teleports the players to Richtofen’s Siberian outpost in the future (A.K.A, Call Of The Dead). Basically, Ascension is a very fun map to play, and is very memorable as well. The design, and fun-ness of the map make Ascension the number 1 zombies map, of all-time.

English Composition I: Achieving Expertise

Prof. Denise Comer

Annotated Bibliography contribution

Area of Expertise: Video games (World of Warcraft)

Donovan, Tristan. Replay: The History of Video Games. Lewes, East Sussex: Yellow Ant Publications. 2010. Print

A staggering 500 page tome (350 of which is the actual material), which elaborately portrays the advent and progression of video game industry from Atari consoles to computer animated latest products (2010). It features international case studies of the gaming communities and habits around the world (Asia among others) as well as a detailed description of how various game genres came to life.

The narrative is deemed quite personal and often takes the form of interview memoirs. While the historical documentation is extremely detailed – dating back to 1945 – the game trends of the 21st century are somewhat “rushed” along the book’s final chapters among with emerging popular game franchises.

Overall it’s an interesting addition to a gamer’s library, especially if one is interested in the gaming industry’s past and how it all began.

A word from the author:

“I chose video game in preference to other terms for several reasons: it remains in everyday use, unlike TV game or electronic game; it is broad enough to encompass the entire medium unlike ‘computer game’, which would exclude games, such as Atari’s Pong, that did not use microprocessors; and terms such as ‘interactive entertainment’, while more accurate, have failed to catch on despite repeated attempts over the years.”

Gutiérrez, Mario, Thalmann, Daniel, Vexo, Frédéric. Stepping into Virtual Reality. Lausanne: Springer-Verlag London Limited. 2008. Print

Mostly described as a technical guidebook for students, this entry rather resembles an introduction to virtual environment design. Ample examples in conjunction with color illustrations exhibit the fundamentals of creating an immersive virtual world. Chapters include architecture of augmented virtual reality systems, avatar creation, touch, smell and taste simulation as well as a reference to visuals (e.g. LCD / Plasma displays) and audio.

To sum up, this qualifies for a decent 101 on virtual reality basics and technical infrastructure.

A word from the authors:

“This work was conceived as a guided tour that will give a practical explanation

of each step in the process of creating a Virtual Reality application. It can

be used both as a textbook for a Virtual Reality course and as a reference for

courses covering computer graphics, computer animation, or human-computer

interaction topics.”

Hunter, Dan, Werbach, Kevin. For the Win: How GAME THINKING Can Revolutionize Your Business. Philadelphia: Wharton Digital Press. 2012. Print

I came across “For the Win” during a MOOC course called “Gamification” on the Coursera platform. Kevin Werbach is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania; together with Dan Hunter they showcase an academic background in law as well as research of virtual worlds. “Gamification” was the very first course of its kind to be offered in academia (The Wharton School) and this book summarizes the main ideas behind the term. Interestingly, thinking as a game designer was not only meant for people within the gaming industry. Game elements, when applied to non-game context can make your business – or any other sector – a better place (for employees and clients alike). The book features gamified websites and examples of gamified services as well as a thorough approach of what kind of game elements one should seek to implement in order to make this endeavor work.

I should mention that both writers were players of World of Warcraft (Horde side) and draw comparisons from many popular games of our time.

From the writers’ note on the title:

““For the win,” or FTW for short, is a gamer term believed to be derived from old-school TV game shows like Hollywood Squares, in which a player could win the game with a correct answer. It’s used as an endorsement of a tool or practice that will lead to success in any context. As in: “Daily exercise FTW!” We find it an appropriate moniker. Gamification is a technique that businesses can use to be more successful. We hope you will use this book to help your business win in whatever ways you choose.”

Bainbridge, William Sims. The Warcraft Civilization: Social Science in a Virtual World. London: MIT Press. 2010. Print.

Bainbridge takes on the most popular MMO RPG (massive open online role playing game) in its peak, namely the Lich King Expansion years. His account is suitable for Argent Dawn EU server players: the role playing lot. Now when one finds oneself in Azeroth chances are you will explore, quest, raid, kill many many – seriously many – mobs; not many choose to role play, because it takes a lot of creativity, effort, practice and imagination – you ‘ve run out of those while killing the many, many oh so many mobs, if you recall.

Bainbridge’s review of the game derives – as the title so hints – from a social perspective, but what he means by that is highly contestable. Sociology is one thing, attempting an explanation of the WoW social universe is a complete other. The book is divided into small chapters, each focusing on separate elements of the game such as religion or cooperation. The introductory roleplaying story lines are intuitive and strongly supported by lore details. After each one, an explicatory section ensues, where things are theoretically approached. The author often gives the impression of an outsider rather than an actual WoW gamer, since his lack of understanding how the game community actually works in non – lorewise manner is baffling.

It should be noted that in-game problems such as character meetup in different servers and dungeon / raid grouping have been dealt with by Blizzard ever since the Cataclysm expansion. Thus, it’s an interesting reading option for the game’s old- timers; at times a beautiful journal even.

From the author’s take on “ganking” [Chapter 5: p. 134]:

“Wanton killing of another player’s character is ganking. Maxrohn experienced ganking firsthand when he was around level 40 at a crossroads in the Swamp of Sorrows. A level-37 Horde scout was standing there, barring the way, so rather than go around, Maxrohn attacked him. This had the effect of turning Maxrohn’s battle flag on, rendering him vulnerable to attack by Horde players. Unfortunately, the crossroads was between the Horde flight path at Stonard and the entry to the high level Blasted Lands zone. Just as Maxrohn was bending down to loot the scout’s corpse, a high-level Horde player killed him instantly. His last memory of the episode is the Horde player’s laughter.”

Molly put up her hand and said, ‘My family went to my granddad’s farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.’

The teacher said, ‘That was good, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate, not fascinating’.

Sally raised her hand. She said, ‘My family went to see Rock City and I was ‘fascinated.’

The teacher said, ‘Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate.’

LittleTommy raised his hand.

The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Tommy before.

She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word ‘fascinate,’ so she called on him.

Tommy said, ‘My aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big she can only fasten eight.’

The teacher sat down and cried.

Hello everyone and welcome back to From The Sun. Sorry again that I haven’t been blogging near

Hello everyone and welcome back to From The Sun. Sorry again that I haven’t been blogging nearly as much as I would like to. A friend of mine came home from college, and this is the first chance he’s had in a long time to play Minecraft multiplayer, so we’ve just been playing it up all day for nearly a week. However, alas, I can’t forget about you guys and today I will do a post. Sadly however, it is not on a good note.

As you may have noticed from the title of this post, after nearly fifty days of Minecraft time, and over the course of two months, I have finally perished to the harsh reality of death. As much as I would have liked to say it, I did not die a noble death, or died while fighting. No, the thing that killed me was height. I was acting stupid and thought that building an xp farm in the air was a good idea. Boy, was I wrong.

The worst part is how the game says you lost.

So yeah, I will admit that I did cry a little when I had died, that much is for sure. Just a little. However, I did have a wonderful time on this world. This is the world that gave me a good start on this blog, one that was with me as I gained 13 followers of this blog. This has been one of my favorite worlds of all time, and as sad as I am to say goodbye, I’m glad that I had a chance to share my experiences with you guys!

However, this is not the end of my Minecraft adventures. For now, I am probably going to take a break from posting on Minecraft, although I am doing research on the next season of Minecraft Survival. This next season I kind of want to make more of a story out of my posts, something from the viewpoint of my character and in present-time, instead of the third-person, past-time posts that I previously did. Tell me what you guys think, and this next season will also include some mods. If there’s any mods that you guys think would be good for a Minecraft story, please post in the comments below, or email me at: fromthesun@outlook.com

Lastly, a couple of friends and I are going to be opening a server soon, and when it releases I will post the ip here for you guys.

And lastly for the second time, I will be continuing posts on some aspects of Minecraft perhaps, such as a review on the snapshots or releases along with other games.

Until next time!
