Oiiii. Faz tempo que nao post nada e hoje resolvi faezer uma ‘proposta’ pra vcs. O que vc acha que durante algiumas horas, rir um pouco, assistindo ‘A proposta’?

O filme é uma daquelas comédias românticas hollywoodianas, no geral cheia de clihês, mas que no fundo faz todo mundo rir um pouco, e de certa forma, sonhar – sempre falo de sonhar quando cito alguma comédia romântica – porque de verdade é meio o que vc faz né? Ri um pouco e sonha. Sonha com o carinha do filme porque afinal são sempre todos perfeitos e tudo o mais.

Mas, não é disso que quero falar. O filme, mostra de forma beeem subjetiva, algo relacionado ao valor familiar. Como assim?!

O filme traz Sandra Bullock – adooooro ela, assistam tb amor a 2ª vista – no papel de uma editora, beeeem ‘cabulosinha’ cheia de direito, que só dá ordens e não se importa em chantegearas pessoas pra conseguir o que quer, mas sempre com muito humor, claro.  Ocorre que, ela tem uns problemas que a impedem de permanecer no pais, e ela precisa profundamente solucionar isso ou ela poderá ser deportada e perder o emprego. Como ela soluciona isso? Com um casamento, e é no processo que ela vai aprender alguma coisa sobre ‘viver em familia’, sobre ter uma familia e valorizar as pessoas que compoe ela.

Eu tinha apenas nove anos de idade quando vi na TV a euforia daquelas pessoas ao voltarem à Alemanha Ocidental após um longo período de cerca de 30 anos. Eu não entendia bem o que estava acontecendo mas os repórteres passavam a clara impressão de que estavam mostrando pessoas que acabavam de se libertar de uma prisão:

- Olha aquele carro, como é grande!

- E aquela loja toda de vidro!

- Nossa! Os restaurantes ficam um ao lado do outro!

Assim diziam uma família de alemães orientais dentro de seu modesto carro ao observarem o centro de Berlim Ocidental em 1989. Parecia uma cena de mais um filme de ficção científica sobre viagens no tempo.

Mas não se tratava de ficção, nem tampouco eram prisioneiros de um Gulag soviético ou qualquer outro tipo de campo de concentração. Antes da construção do Muro, 3,5 milhões de alemães orientais tinham evitado as restrições de emigração do Leste e fugiram para a Alemanha Ocidental, muitos ao longo da fronteira entre Berlim Oriental e Ocidental. Durante sua existência, entre 1961 e 1989, o Muro quase parou todos os movimentos de emigração e separou a Alemanha Oriental de Berlim Ocidental por mais de um quarto de século. Era o símbolo da chamada “Cortina de Ferro” dividindo capitalistas e comunistas em território europeu. Este muro provocou a morte a 80 pessoas identificadas, 112 ficaram feridas e milhares aprisionadas nas diversas tentativas de atravessá-lo.

Para entender como essa barreira foi vencida em 1989 é preciso estudar a situação de decadência em que a (ex) URSS se encontrava, mas a atenção do mundo todo se voltou para o muro quando em 1987 o então presidente norte americano Ronald Reagan desafiou o ainda “recente” líder comunista Mikhail Gorbachev a por abaixo o muro.

Em 4 de novembro de 1989. Meio milhão de pessoas participam de uma manifestação pela democracia em Berlim Oriental. Em minha opinião se tratava muito mais de interesses econômicos sobre o alcance de um novo mercado consumidor em lugar de fraternidade e compaixão com seus vizinhos. Poucos dias depois em 9 de novembro de 1989, Egon Krenz, diz que todos os alemães orientais podem ir para a Alemanha Ocidental a partir do dia seguinte que solicitarem um visto de saída. Uma confusão relacionada ao anúncio leva, em minutos, os berlinenses do Leste a pressionar os postos de fronteira. Até meia-noite, centenas de milhares derrubam o Muro e chegam a Berlim Ocidental. Era o sinal que aquele lado já agia em sincronia com o resto do mundo novamente!

Oh boy, I’m so excited, I’ve never been comfortable with seeing myself on camera but this was so fun. Plus I’ve discovered the wonders of video editing, twas fun. I don’t think I’ve ever been glued to the computer for more than 24 hours but for this video, I’ve discovered an alternate universe, of late nights and imagination.  I hope you guys enjoy this video! I baked some peanut butter – oatmeal- chocolate chip squares that were yummy, and soul-satisfying. Plus it was too easy to make. Follow the video and viola! I adapted the recipe from crepes of wrath

Ingredients you will need:

1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup rolled oats

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (1 stick/4 oz./113g) unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup creamy or chunky peanut butter (I used chunky, who doesn’t LOVE chunky?!)

1 egg, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup peanut butter or chocolate chips

powdered sugar for dusting (Optional – I omitted this)

*please note that halfway during the course of baking if the top of the dough gets too brown, cover with aluminium foil and I lined the pan with aluminium foil too, but you can use parchment paper if you wish.

First things first. This is the funniest thing I’ve seen this weekend. For posterity I’ll set this image up with a brief description of what you’re looking at. This is a T-shirt design created by the fine folks of Green Bay, Wisconsin (or at least sold to the fine folks of Green Bay, Wisconsin) in preparation for Brett Farve’s return to Lambeau Field, this time as the starting quarterback for the Packers’ hated rival, the Minnesota Vikings.

Quite witty. “Football witty,” but still.

As for Halloween, have a good one. Most people don’t take this holiday as an opportunity to celebrate the way that they should. According to every sitcom on television this year, the gays have it down, but for most of us it’s a pain in the ass. (I’ll let you “sit” on that one for a second.) Take the leap…

The history of Halloween, like everything else that the devil does, is muddled with competing story-lines, multiple translations of word and fact, and too much sugar. Regardless of what the day has meant to the Celts, the Britons, or the Catholics for you and me it typically means a downward spiral into sugar shame.

Let it not be so this year. Eat, Drink & Celebrate. Don’t you dare feel bad about it. Happy Halloween!

Last night I got back from a rather wonderful week in Paris. I was lazy, didn’t go to any shows, barely did anything aside from eat great food and play chess with my girlfriend.

I had made plans to spend the week intensively recording, but when I got there it seemed stupid to spend the week I had with my girlfriend recording, rather than doing that the weeks we are apart.

Anyway, this is how I spent my morning, which is a concept I’ve been wanting to perform for a while. It’s using a slightly customized version of my real-time beat-indentifier, and a couple of eggs. All the processing is in real-time, and the only sound source is the sound of eggs hitting the wall!!

The woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her: what do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach?
