As corny as it is, we still tear up when watching Christian the Lion hug his former family. And we too are fascinated by Susan Boyle‘s voice. Then there’s the ever-entertaining Daft Hands (and its many spin-offs — our favorite being Honey the Shih Tzu). And we will never forget the man trapped in an elevator video. Or how the planes land at St. Maarten’s airport. Hmmm, we sound a little obsessed, no? Online video has the most amazing ability to trap you into its claws, and not let go, until you’ve watched dozens of silly (or funny or poignant or jaw-dropping) videos and realize you’ve stayed up way too late. Or is that just us?

Hey folks—I’m posting about my European travels in a haphazard manner, as I’m currently in Granada, Spain, but started off in Madrid and was in Lisbon before this. But I’ve had patches of time to catch up on work (read: leisurely laptop time via free wireless), thanks to the quick connection at my hotel, Hotel Puerta de las Granadas, a modestly decorated but very efficient hotel on Cuesta de Gomerez, in the historic quarter not far from the Alhambra’s entrance. I had cancelled my hostel reservation at Oasis Granada last-minute and booked here—the Oasis is supposed to be awesome, but I realized I wanted a private room. It’s a great little hotel in a very central location near Plaza Nueva—for about 50 euro a night, I highly recommend it. I have hundreds and hundreds of photographs of Granada already—which I’ll continue to upload via Flickr: Granada—but I wanted to give you a glimpse of this ancient, intriguing, and gorgeous city. Robbie Williams last night lept to defend the video of his latest single, a duet with Gary Barlow called, somethign or other (we forget), and asked for calm, stating that the video wasn’t in fact “ironic, in an ironic way” and that the video was “only gay”.  In a heartfelt press conference while on his way to getting papped while doing something menial, Robbie said: ”What had been intended as a self-serving exercise in proving we’re still relevant had led some people to believe that we were making fun of ourselves, or being “ironically ironic”. Ne went on to add “Since neither is the case, I can confirm that the video is just us two being two gay fags in, double-denim, giving each other the reach around. We don’t like each other, it was just sex and we both need a boost. I don’t know what all the fuss is about, really.” See the sick fucking video here:

A fair number of opera lovers would name Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro as their favourite of Mozart’s operas, and even as their favourite opera of all.  I am not in either group — Cosi fan tutte takes my Mozartian palm, and I would have to think hard before naming my very favourite opera — but I agree that Le Nozze di Figaro is easy to love.  It was the first of the three marvelous operas that Mozart worked on with the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, and the collaboration clearly stimulated Mozart’s muse.  These three — Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte — are celebrated for their sparkling music, magnificent ensemble pieces, and unprecedented psychological acuity.  They really are wonderful to hear. Snoop Dogg is setting the bar high for his next album. The Doggfather announced that his next cd will be a sequel to the 1993 classic ‘Doggystyle’, and producer Swizz Beatz is already giving him “sounds” for the project. “I’m in the studio with Swizzle, and he just laced my boots up on my new record,” Snoop said while sitting next to Swizz. “Motherf*cker gave me some gangsta sh*t, some crip sh*t, some R&B sh*t, some hip hop sh*t, some hard sh*t, some mean sh*t. And the name of the album is ‘Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary’, be on the look out for it.” Snoop was holding a cd, he said contained 18 new tracks he and Swizz had just knocked out. “Thats how we used to do it back in the day,” says Swizz. “We used to be about the sound, not the single.
