Well CIT is in full swing here at SUNYIT and there are some pretty fascinating presentations that are going on over the next few days.

We were able to outfit Kunsela Hall C212 with Echo360 and are capturing and live streaming sessions from that room.

In May of 2011 the State of California announced a plan to close 25% of its 278 state parks. Shortly thereafter a group of film makers sprung into action, set off on a 3,000-mile journey to visit the 70 parks slated to close, and made the film, The First 70, the trailer of which appears above.

Last year agreements were put into place to keep the parks open. However, according to a recent San Francisco Chronicle article, all of those agreements will expire, many in June of 2014. The article also cites a report by the Little Hoover Commission, an independent state agency that focuses on finding efficiencies in state operations, which recommends California divest itself of some of its state park holdings.

What all this means is that no long-term solution exists to fund California’s State Parks.

This bride to be was so excited about her dress and the big day that she wore her dress over to her grandmothers house to show it off. The trip back to her house turned out to be quite a tragedy! It seems her dog got a little too excited to see her and pretty much tackeled her to the ground and ripped her dress apart before she could have he big day!

Senator Rand Paul decided to ‘go Galt‘ at the spectacle of U.S. Congressman dragging in the world’s most successful company for a good old Stalinesque show trial. What was Apple’s crime? Not paying more in taxes than legally required.

The scene looked like it could have been ripped from the pages of Atlas Shrugged, a weighty tome on the consequences of punishing the makers and doers written by Ayn Rand. Rumors that Rand Paul was named after the Objectivist author are only the stuff of urban legend.

Playing the part of Wesley Mouch was Michigan Senator Carl Levin, whose impeccable red cred cannot be doubted. The Senator was no doubt gobsmacked by the Kentucky redheaded stepchild blasting the fiscally challenged U.S. Congress for targeting the successful company. Most of the Senators there don’t even know how to use Quicken.

“Frankly, I’m offended by the tone and tenor of this hearing,” Paul said in his opening statement. “I’m offended by a $4 trillion government bullying, berating, and badgering one of America’s greatest success stories.”

Paul slammed the “spectacle” of bringing in executives from a company that did nothing illegal — as the committee admitted. One would think that the dysfunctional body would find a way to get its own house in order before making phony ‘truth to power’ exhibitions before the Democrats’ clueless hipster audience. (Be sure to tweet out your fake-rage on your iPhones, guys).

“If anyone should be on trial here, it should be Congress,” Paul added. “I frankly think the committee should apologize to Apple. I think Congress should be on trial here for creating a bizarre and byzantine tax code that runs into the tens of thousands of pages, for creating a tax code that simply doesn’t compete with the rest of the world.”

The senator suggested bringing in a “giant mirror” so the people in Congress could see who created the problem. Paul ended his tirade by scolding the “abominable” hearing — and then argued instead for “better, fairer, and more competitive” tax legislation. The arcane and punitive tax code of over 74,000 pages is what drives companies overseas, so the obvious solution would be to simplify and ease its burden on wealth and job creators.

Paul then took his point global by blasting out on Twitter, “Apple has done more to enrich people’s lives than politicians will ever do.” I’m sure all the coddled nerds furiously pecking away on their MacBook Airs spilt their mochachinos in their reflexive scramble to disagree.

Today we’ll take a trip east to hear slightly ridiculous but very entertaining Mnozil Brass from Austria performing the “Hungarian Schnapsodie” featuring Zoltan Kiss, a most impressive technician on the trombone:

She gave herself a lot to live up to by using Sami.the.Great as her musical moniker and Sami Akbari has definitely risen up to that challenge. She’s receiving a lot of attention from tastemakers like Daytrotter, Nylon and Bust magazine and winning fans through near constant touring.  There’s a retro/modern push-pull to her sound and she brings this Doris Day vibe mixed with modern sass to her music that I enjoy immensely. I am super bummed that due to prior commitments I am not going to be able to make it to her show at The Heavy Anchor on May 30th. I hope you’ll go and report back to me with all the details!
