Back in the eighties I was the Galaga King of the south area of Eindhoven. I spent my entire allowance on this Arcade Game. Back then this was, besides the Commodore 64, the only way to play video games. At one moment in time Galaga was hot and you could play it in several cafetaria’s in the Valkenswaard-Eindhoven area. After a while I played for more than an hour on one guilder and when playing together with another crack, M.T., we could play till closing time. Actually some owners gave away monthly prizes for the one who had reached the highscore. So at the end of the month I cycled to Wil’s corner in Dommelen, The Wilan in Valkenswaard and a cafetaria at the Floralaan-Oost in Eindhoven to pick up my money (mostly 25 gulders, a huge amount of money for me in those days). One other cafetaria did not hand out money but there I won a ‘golden’ watch. My parents weren’t keen on me playing video games and they thought I played only once in a while. Obviously, I could not come home wearing this kind of jewellery. So if someone finds a watch, somewhere in the bushes at the Geenhovensedreef near the Haagstraat than please send it to me. Especially if it really turns out to be a Rolex!

… is straks misschien de openingszin tegen je computer. Of tegen één van de personages die in je computer leeft: na het full-body besturen van je spelconsole gisteren vandaag een zo mogelijk nog spectaculairder filmpje, nog steeds met hetzelfde zgn. Project Natal op de Xbox: de console reageert op stem, intonatie en gezichtsuitdrukking.

Dit demofilmpje van de nieuwe Xbox live (via) deed me zo hard denken aan de handenvrije gaming technologie van het Brussels Softkinetic:

Helaas voor de Brusselaars is het niet hun werk dat in de Xbox zit, maar van een Israëlisch bedrijf dat Microsoft heeft opgekocht.

Saaie lui als wij hebben tot de Wii moeten wachten eer we ons aan videospelletjes waagden. Dankzij het Belgische (jawel!) Softkinetic mogen we die Wii binnenkort écht weggooien (na al die keren dat we het per ongeluk gedaan hebben).

Laat de computer jou filmen en bestuur hem zonder hulpmiddelen, met volkomen natuurlijke bewegingen.

Nu ja, natuurlijk?
