And the leaves have all fallen to ground,
When the air has turned windy and cold,
Then Thanksgiving will soon be around.Thoughts of loved ones all feasting together,
Pleasant pictures from past times appear
To dwell in each heart and each mind–
Then Thanksgiving is finally here!The kitchen has scrumptious aromas,
The dining room looks oh, so fine,
Decorations with pilgrims and turkeys,
And now we are ready to dine!First the napkins are placed on our laps;
Now the prayer for the meal to be blessed,

What soap is to a body, laughter is to the soul. Carry laughter with you wherever you go. A good dose of laughter has been shown to improve blood circulation, stimulate digestion, lower blood pressure and prompt the brain to release pain-reducing endorphins. So do something for your health today – laugh. !!!

A good laugh overcomes more difficulties and dissipates more dark clouds than any other one thing.If only we can be induced to laugh more, we might hate less and perhaps find more serenity. It is the best way to remove negativity and turn painful situations around through laughter.

Laughter is also an expression of faith in God – it is the best response you can make to your own human frailities as you strive to live a happy life. May God bless you in your quest. !!!

Nothing like a gorgeous train ride to kick off a long Thanksgiving weekend. The weather in Portland was crisp and clear, with Mount Hood outlined by the bright blue sky and yellow trees on the horizon.

I love taking the train because it allows the time to decompress and prep for vacation; like a buffer zone between everyday life and relax time. A lunch of goat cheese, salami and satsumas along with a thermos of cider makes that trip even more perfect.

And of course on beautiful late autumn days, you get amazing views like this one:

Here is just a sample of the handful of beautiful pictures I managed to capture despite the gale force winds up at HNC college tryingt o blow me away from this lovely view of sunrise at 8:15pm over Castle Hill which you can see from where I work.

Driving down Josepehine Street after school I had to pull over, take this picture. The light on the Cathedral was  reflected just before the sun set.

Until 1929, trains crisscrossed with street traffic on Manhattan’s west side. Right around the 10th and the 11th Avenues along the Meatpacking district, Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. Then, the High Line railway route was laid down…right above these streets, to help prevent frequently occurring accidents and unclog traffic jams.

More than 70 years later, and many years past the last train ran through it, the City took over this abandoned railroad and transformed it into a commendable walkway park: landscaped, spruced up and open to public access.

(Currently operating only up to 20th street, it is scheduled to snake its way into Hell’s Kitchen next year)

Lovers of urban decay were certainly not happy. This was a like a shiny new car, reproduced and regurgitated in place of the sputtering vintage they adored. On the other hand, it offers some undeniable perks to the practical local or the tourist round the block.

The High Line park not only provides you a viewing of a very interesting piece of landscape work (marrying the remains of railway tracks with tended plantation, wooden benches, chairs and more), it also opens its doors to safe public access and great views of the city’s breathtaking west side ( hard to come by down in the cobblestone streets).

Peek into the choking streets down there, people watch from a vantage point, gaze right into the setting sun on the other side. Sprawl on a lawn chair, read a book. Watch locals and tourists gazing at cityscape alike. No where else do they co-exist so blatantly.

What is at the bottom of your “To Do” list?

Unfortunately, the fact is the  longer we put off our unpleasant task, the more unpleasant they become – and the more stress they add to our life. Don’t fool yourself that important things can be put off till tomorrow.

Just say, “No.” !!!

Tomorrow is the only day that appeals to a lazy man. One of these days is none of these days. All procrastination really does is delay the inevitable. You may delay, but time will not. Today, why not take one task you’ve been putting off and “just do it.” You will be glad you did. !!!

Only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday.

Forgetfulness occurs at all ages. Minor memory difficulties may not interfere with our everyday living. But, forgetfulness is also a common complaint among older people. However, age alone does not cause a significant decline in memory – many other factors must be considered. Sometimes stress is to blame.

Leading an interesting and stimulating life is vital for those who wish to remain mentally alert. Being in good health also improves mental performance, and exercise may even prevent a decline  in mental as well as physical fitness. Last but not least, remaining relaxed is important, as tension and pressure to remember quickly only increases anxiety which could have a detrimental effect on memory.

While forgetfulness is understandable, people should not lower their expectations about brain function as they age.  Forgetfulness is not a normal part of aging particularly for those in their 30s and 50s. To keep forgetting is painful. But not knowing what to do is the worst kind of suffering.

So how far you go in your life depends …………..

……………..on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.”

Happy November 24th! It’s been a day I’ve dreaded for weeks. There are a number of factors contributing to my dread, almost none am I willing to discuss publicly. Before I get to my rant on today sucking, there ARE a few great things happening!

#1 – Happy 24th Birthday Janelle! I love and miss you.

#2 – It’s payday so I can go buy my insulin now.

#3 – I get to have the yummiest of meals with a good friend.

Yesterday’s post was probably not the brightest idea, all things considered. I wanted answers, though there are really none to be had. When I’m stressed (like I have been going into today) I tend to be a little bit more emotional (thank you Ms. Counselor for helping me embrace emotionality). And, to be honest, I’m not entirely ready to display emotion over someone who doesn’t even care about themself. Again, being honest, I have a TON of emotion regarding my father and his situation, I just don’t want to be the only showing that they even care.

My manager has mysteriously asked if I could come in and meet with her this week. I have a few speculations, but mostly no idea what this is regarding. I don’t THINK I have a reason to worry, but I’m still concerned.

Most of my issues with today spawn from my unsureness about myself. I wish I WAS more sure, sure about my choices, sure about how I feel, sure about why things happen, sure of my worth, sure of my appearance, sure of my personality – just more sure of myself in general. As much as I’m all about being how I am and not changing for others and if they don’t like me they don’t have to be around me…I’d like to be sure. Not to please others, just for my own sanity, my own PEACE of mind.

As much as I’m dreading today and all that it’s bringing, it’s just a day. It’s 24 hours in my relatively long lifespan. Just like any other day I have to check sugars, eat and bolus accordingly, deal with the curveballs life likes to throw at me oh so frequently, work and just take each second as it comes. You don’t get to crawl in a hole and disappear for the days you don’t like…even though, let me tell you, I would LOVE to do that today.

American Idol star, Adam Lambert was not allowed to perform for ABC: Good Morning America today because of his controversial performance for the American Music Awards.

According to OMG (Yahoo)-

Millions of viewers saw him simulate oral sex with a back-up dancer, plant a passionate kiss on the mouth of a male keyboard player and gesture to the audience with his middle finger during the closing act of the live music awards show.

In addition, before this show reached the west coast, some sections of Lambert’s  performance was cut.

Well, Mr. Lambert you were irresponsible and did not choose your actions wisely. I am disappointed because I thought Lambert would have been aware that what he does for his performances will effect other opportunities latter on in life. I am not surprised with GMA for canceling his performance, but I find it interesting that they did not just ask for him to not perform the way he did for the AMA performance. Hmm, well we all have our set values and they should be respected.

We now learn from our mistakes and improve for the future.

Happiness is there for the taking.

All seasons are beautiful for the person who carries happiness within. Many of us spend our lives searching for happiness. In the end, some are fortunate enough to realize that it is not about having more or doing more or being more. It is about how we view what is already ours.

Be content with such things as you have.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Look around you today and appreciate the riches in your life. Even if your circumstances are troubling and your prospects slim, you can always revel in the vibrant colors of the morning sunrise or the amazing tenacity of a dandelion fighting to conquer its place in the grass.

Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.

Yes, action may not always bring happiness. But there is no happiness without action. Learn to appreciate what you have. For it is only when you begin to see and appreciate the richness around you, you will almost certainly find that you have a great deal more to be happy about than you once imagined.

Some of us spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within. So your best vitamin to be a happy person is B1.

I reckon, what we call the secret of happiness is no more than our willingness to choose life. As for me, the grand essentials of my happiness are; something to do, something to love and something to hope for.
