Tamannah has turned out to be the lady with the golden touch! The actress is seen playing the on screen pair with some of the best and well established actors in Kollywood. While Padikadhavan she paired opposite Dhanush, in Ayan it was Suriya. She also has two more projects in the pipeline – one with Vijay (Sura) and the other with Jayam Ravi (Thillalangadi).

With the actress steadily climbing the professional ladder, she is keener on having her profile complete with a Rajinikanth and Ajith film. Tamannah has expressed her desire to be a part of Rajinikanth’s film, as she feels that it means reaching the pinnacle.

First off, Asin stole the show. She always give 100%, and seems to enjoy herself. Vijay (my first movie with him) is much more sympathetic, as a protagonist, than Mahesh; the chemistry between Vijay and Asin was much less forced, than it felt with Mahesh and Ileana. Prabu Deva is fantastic when it comes to the romance, dialogue, and dance scenes, but he falls completely flat with the fight scenes. I have no idea why he felt compelled to copy Puri Jagannath’s work, down to the weapons used in the fight scenes, but he dropped the ball in this area. I can’t say if Vijay is a good technical fighter, like Mahesh, but it would be embarrassing to compare the two. Prabu Deva should have changed the fight choreography, because he did himself a disfavor. The makeup, FX, and wire work were amateurish.Vijay was much clumsier, less precise, than Mahesh during the fight scenes. The camera work was crap, they just followed Jagannath’s version and didn’t even bother to focus the camera half the time.

Ashish Vidyarthi does a better job as Inspector Pasupathi/Govind, the corrupt cop, than Mukesh Tiwari, who just came off as slimy and lecherous. Prakash Raj checked all the same blocks for this version, nothing spectacular, but he did his job. The father figure, Nasser, was the same in both the Telugu & Tamil versions. He also did a reliable, but unremarkable repeat of his role. Oh, I have to say this, much as I find Vadivelu’s comedy style amusing, his scenes should have been kept to a bare minimum. In the Telugu version, Brahmanandam, Ali, and Venu Madhav really made the comedy relief…a relief, and not just a painful attempt at humor as in the Tamil version. We get it, Vadivelu, you have the fart and ass joke market cornered. Now, please get some new material! Please?!?!

I was disappointed that Prabu didn’t put our female rowdy to better use, the Tamil version was lame, and they removed the scenes and dialogue that made her stand out. Mumaith NEVER disappoints, both versions were completely different and totally rocked.

To sum up: This movie would have been perfect with Prabu directing Vijay in the romance & dance scenes, while Puri should direct Mahesh in the fight scenes. just choose which face to use and photoshop it on the other body. I definitely preferred Asin’s version of Shruti, without dissing Ileana, I just think she did a better job. She is a seasoned actress, and I can see Ileana getting there, but she is still young. Otherwise, I like them both. Some of Shruti’s dialogue was silly…’I know my love is true’, ok whatever. Prabu should have taken over the reigns for all the romance scenes. All the original stuff was excellent, and sometimes the dialogue was almost bipolar in its usefulness, Prabu obviously didn’t give a shit about Puri’s dialogue, and let the caterer direct those scenes.

The Tamil version was flirtier, and the Telugu version was edgier (I know, crap grammar, but they do the job).

But most of his hits are remakes only. He always keep in touch with Tollywood movie makers, when he notices a good story or good concept, instantly he consults the movie makers and takes the remake rights.

The Tamil Nadu Housing Board had allotted 27 cents of vacant land in Chennai to Vijay during the year 2007. Following this, the original owner of the land had filed a petition in the High Court of Madras claiming that an individual can be allotted not more that one ground of land and this allocation is against the law. The petitioner claimed that the land originally belonged to him, but the housing board acquired the land from him to be utilized for building housing board tenements in the year 1969. However, the project did not take off till date and he came to learn through his sources that the said land had been allotted to actor Vijay.

Apart from seeking a stay order against constructing any structure in the disputed land, the petitioner also prayed to have the land reallotted to him.

Of late, actor Vijay has made no efforts to take on character- or performance-oriented roles. He has become the new age Mass Man, and with his punch dialogues, angry stares and awesome grooves, he has audiences wrapped around his little finger.

His upcoming movie Vettaikaran, by its very title confirms that this is yet again a movie tailor-made to suit his hard-core action avatar. And for those who wish to ignore the hints in the title, Vijay Anthony’s songs for the movie will do the trick!

The Vettaikaran music album comprises six tracks. There are two pacy numbers ‘Nan Adicha’ and ‘Puliurumudhu’, two melodies ‘Karikalan Kalai’ and ‘Oru Chinna’, (the latter being repeated with negligible change in rhythm) and the complete folk number ‘Yen Uchimanda’. Babusivan, director of Vettaikaran, when asked about his fave tracks, replies promptly, “‘Nan Adhicha’, Vijay’s opening song, tops my list.

Lyrics are by Kabilan. There’s a lot of punch to the lyrics, the philosophies included and the beat. ‘Karigalan Kalai’, I think, will rank amongst the best melodies of the year.

‘Puli Urumudhu’ is another power-packed number, gets the adrenaline pumping and establishes the high tension of the situation at hand. Vijay Anthony has managed to deliver exactly what Vijay fans want.”

Vettaikaran’s shooting is currently progressing in and around Chennai. the film is directed by Babu Sivan.

But hits seem to have dried up for him and the boyish charm is not working the magic like before. Though, there is reason to believe that he has shifted his focus from fully commercial cinema to the more meaningful variety like Evano Oruvan. He has also split his time between Tamil and Hindi. Lack of regular releases is hurting him in Kollywood.
Three films old and he already has got a reputation of being a fairly good actor. The three films don’t tell us that he has been around for nearly 3 years now, which means that he is the kind who is willing to wait for the right opportunities to come his way. Seems to have earned himself a place in the good books of directors which will serve him well. But, commitments in Malayalam keep him from getting regular releases in Kollywood.

With just a few films, he has proved that he can handle just about any genre with the same ease. Also, close to 7 years of experience in the Malayalam industry have taught him many things about making the right choices, which prevents him from repeating the usual mistakes that newcomers make. But, if he wants to go higher in Tamil he has got to concentrate fully in Kollywood. At the moment, he seems more interested in his home industry.

Of course, he too delivers the occasional commercial flick. In spite of all this, lady luck is yet to give him that huge hit which can push him up a notch. Too early in his career to be developing an image, needs to try more variety. His credentials are no longer in doubt, but there has been a shadow cast over his choices. The hit register is not consistent, though occasionally satisfactory. Given his potential, he should be doing much better.
First real big surprise of the list. The new guy on the block has made a head start. Just a couple of movies old, but he has managed to grab attention like few others have been able to. The choices that he made definitely played as big a part as his performances. Has got the spine to defy stereotypes. Has got quite a few lined up that can decide whether he continues at the same spot.

Screen writer and director at a very young age besides being a flamboyant actor. Wonder whether he has inherited all his dad’s talents. His dance skills and dialogue delivery are his USP and work for him more often than not. But, he seems dangerously close to walking into an image warp too early in his career. Needs to caution himself against redundancy. Thoroughly capable of making it big if he strikes the right balance. His current trade value seems to have not been affected instead of just two average fares over the last four years.

Has made the transition from boy to man and comfortably settled into a mould that seems to suit him exceedingly well. Revels in playing the careless youngster type of roles, playing the fool on screen comes naturally to him. The best thing that Dhanush seems to have done is to identify what can work for him, he is playing exclusively to his strengths. Very much in the process of evolving as an actor, but is on the right path.

You can be forgiven for not thinking about Vikram all this while, he has been off screen for quite some time. It took more than 2 years for Bheema to make it to theaters and that too was a disappointment. But, he is still on the charts which is testimony to his lasting appeal. More often than not, he manages to deliver goods that keep everyone happy.

Music Director : Vijay Antony
Vocals : Ananthu, Mahesh Vinayakram, Krish, Suchitra, Bone Killer, Dinesh Kanagarathinam, Shankar Mahadevan, Surchith, Sangeetha Rajeswaran, Krishna Iyer, Shoba Sekar, Charulatha Mani, Shakthi Sree.
Lyrics : Kabilan, Viveka, Annamalai.

Produced by M. Balasubramanian and B. Gurunath Meyyappan and directed by B. Babu Sivan, this much-hyped film of Vijay could be released for Diwali. Vijay appears to play the role of an autorikshaw driver who wishes to ‘bring peace’ to the country. Anushka Shetty, Salim Ghouse, Vivek, Srihari and Srinath star along with him. Many racy action sequences in this movie appear to have been done boldly by Vijay himself, which could be a treat for his fans. The music for this film has been composed by Vijay Antony (whose ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’ has been doing pretty decently).

Puli Urumuthu—
Vocals: Ananthu, Mahesh Vinayakram.
Lyrics: Kabilan

A song full of hyperbolic expressions, obviously an action-packed number! Heavy use of Indian percussive instruments characterize this song which takes off in the madhyama shruti with shades of Mayamalavagowla raga .

The relentless pace of the song could add to the dramatic effect on screen.

Chinna Thamarai—
Vocals: Krish, Suchitra, English Rap: Bone Killer, Tamil Rap: Dinesh Kanagarathinam.
Lyrics: Viveka

Plenty of keyboard sounds, we have here. The rather strident rhythms somehow seem to rob the song of any melody. The Tamil rap bit sounds cool. The lyrics are crisp.

Naan Adiccha—
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan.
Lyrics: Kabilan

Poor Shankar Mahadevan tries his very best to infuse a spark into this song (probably the title number) but to no avail. The beats, the lyrics and the sentiments expressed (akin to MGR songs) are pretty jaded. A wee bit of gibberish in between, in trademark Vijay Anthony style! Strictly for Vijay fans. The start, though, is pretty stylish, with the Karaharapriya notes going ‘sa ni sa,sa ni sa, sa ni dha ma pa—pa ma ga—sa’. And there is a cute bit by Vijay’s son Sanjay at the end!

Karikalan—
Vocals: Surchith, Sangeetha Rajeswaran.
Lyrics: Kabilan

A very cheerful, smile-worthy duet based on the Tilang raga, which may hit the charts soon. Lovely inputs from the strings and percussive instruments. Well sung too, especially Sangeetha. The impish background vocals hold up the folksy mood of the song well.

En Ucchi Mandai—
Vocals: Krishna Iyer, Shoba Sekar, Charulatha Mani, Shakthi Sree.
Lyrics: Annamalai

Another very typical Vijay number, with predictably fast rhythms and blasé lyrics. How many such songs must Vijay endure before he moves on?

Verdict:

Vijay Anthony appears to have been trapped by the image of actor Vijay (as a dancer) which seems to have narrowed his musical options. The songs, coming one after another, sound similar rhythm-wise. One sincerely hopes the film has been crafted well and does not sink like ‘Kuruvi’ or ‘Villu’, in which case, the songs could be forgotten in a trice.

Vijay’s fiftieth film Sura, directed by SP Rajakumar, was kick started some time in September and has been progressing well. The film has Tamanna playing the female lead for the first time opposite Vijay. The cast and crew are gung ho about the film as it is a landmark project in Ilayathalapathi Vijay’s career and are reportedly giving their best.

A few scenes of Sura are to be filmed at Marakkanam in Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu, including a song, we hear. There are reports that the team had erected a huge set for the purpose in this coastal area.

Surya says that his film ‘Aadhavan’ is a family entertainer. The film has comedy, romance and action at right mix. The movie is about the story of an assassin in Kolkata. The film had action sequences but they are devoid of blood and gore.

While speaking to the reporters in Chennai he said that it is his first film with KS Ravikumar. He was initially nervous working with him and he added that the director tuned him well to play the lead role. Surya gave his credit to the director as that he is a live wire on the sets, still young at heart.

He confirmed the news that he is playing a 10-year-old boy in ‘Aadhavan’. He said that the highlight of the film is that he was playing a 10-year-old for a flashback portion. It enhances the story of the film. Initially they thought of shooting the portion with a young boy and then for the sake of the genuinity in the script, they thought of taking the risk.

Then they approached several computer graphic designers for the purpose but to no avail. Finally Surya decided to do it himself and with proper guidance from his director and some modifications in his body language and voice. The music for the film is scored by Harris Jayaraj and they were already a hit.
