Viktor & Rolf always give us surprises. With that being said, for the Spring Summer 2010 collection, Viktor & Rolf are creating a small capsule collection that encompasses five cocktail dresses, for the very first time. This collection has been given a name of a special label, Viktor & Rolf Black Dress. From this S/S 2010 collection on, every season will launch a new capsule collection comprising five dresses.

The idea behind this capsule is to always reinvent the Little Black Dress offering a point of difference from the rest of the collection. Since these pieces combine classic designs with original chic details, they remain timeless iconic fashion pieces that fit to grace the most enviable wardrobes. For the S/S 2010 capsule collection, Viktor & Rolf propose soft shapes, silhouettes and fabrics, which make the looks very chic, with a relaxed attitude. The feminine references are lingerie, bustiers and soft bows.

In the designers’ own words: “Our inspiration began with the women we imagined would wear them. With sources ranging from a certain technique or silhouette to the memory of a vintage dress, the garments capture our take on the spirit of a woman, that may be serenely fluid, delightfully structured, lavish and decorative or classically alluring”.

Soft loose summer dress in cupro with a chic seventies feel and flowerbomb strap details at the back.

Dress with integrated bustier in cupro and chiffon embellished with stones appliquéd onto the collar and belt.

Black Dream

Short dress designed to combine three different fabrics – a chiffon décolleté, a silk bodice and a taffeta skirt – finished off with a rich stone and bead appliqué sash at the waist.

Black Rose

Tulle layered dress with hand embroideries on the shoulders and a satin ribbon belt.

They are just simply amazing, aren’t they? Well, I just can’t wait for more capsule collections to come in the future, good job Viktor & Rolf!

Only a few weeks before Christmas and Digitalista E. is already broke.

She bought a few presents. Just for herself, because she thought she deserved it. Hard working girls deserve some nice presents, right?

In the pocket: the Paris Vogue Collection 2010, a Viktor & Rolf fairytale book (signed!) and some nice Christmas cards, also designed by the two Dutch designers. Very great for under the X-mas tree!

Now Digitalista E. only has to shop for the rest of her family. It will be a month full of bread and peanut butter…

Yes, she did it. Standing in line, on her high heels, for 1,5 hours in luxury warehouse the Bijenkorf for a signed book by V&R. While she was waiting, Digitalista K. and P.A M. supported her. Digitalista E. even got interviewed by a wellknown Dutch newspaper.

Viktor & Rolf fairytale book

Yes, Digitalista E. is on a mission today: to grab a signed book full of fairytales, made by Viktor & Rolf.

The two Dutch designers designed a Christmas collection (like Christmas cards, tablecloth, napkins, Moleskine notebooks etc etc) exclusively for the Bijenkorf (well known Dutch warehouse). And they also wrote a fairytale book with their own illustrations. And they’re gonna sign the books today. It will be very crowded though…

So Digitalista E. is on a mission today. Wish her good luck!!! You can read the result later on today.

You probably haven’t heard of Antoine Peters when you’re not from The Netherlands. But since I am, I did hear from him and saw him in person when he gave me and 20 other people a presentation about his work as a fashion designer. And yes, I was impressed! But who is he?

Antoine Peters is a dutch fashion designer. After he graduated from Fashion Institute Arnhem in the Netherlands he got to show for Amsterdam International Fashion Week with some other designers. He has worked for the dutch AvantGarde magazine, Viktor & Rolf and is one of Hollands most promising designers. There’s one thing that one can always see and feel when they are looking at his collection: Humor. Humor is one of the most important things when it comes to him designing clothes. With titles for his runway shows as: ’Fat People Are Harder To Kidnap’ and ’Turn Your Frown Upside Down’ he always makes the crowd laughing before the show even starts. Even the tags in his garments are in the shape of a smile, and they are stitched in a way so that on the backside of the garment is a little smile.

He’s also well known for his idea: A Sweater For The World. This is a huge sweater that can be worn as an oversized dress but also as just a sweater for two (or more) people. Also this idea, comes back into some of his collections.

In most of his collections patterns are used, no not the usual patterns that we already know like the scottish pattern or pied-de-poule but patterns he creates himself. Like in the collections: ‘I’m with stupid’, ‘Fat People Are Harder To Kidnap’ and ‘To Make An Elephant Out Of A Mosquito.’

The first five pictures are pictures taken from the collection: ‘Fat People Are Harder To Kidnap’. He uses a pattern he created himself. The pattern consists of pieces cut from the newspaper that we sometimes see in movies (old movies most of the time) when they show us a threatening letter. In the third and the fourth picture we can see this clearly, but when you focus on the first two pictures you can see that the pattern on the garment is the same as the others but only it’s a magnification. This collection is from the FW 08/09 show.

The last four pictures are taken from the collection: ‘I’m With Stupid’. He was inspired by the cheesy T-Shirts that say: I’m With Stupid with a arrow under them pointing to the person next to them. I’m not really a fan of these patterns but some really stand out.  This collection is from the FW/2010 show. Which is his latest collection. In both of these collection we can see a lot of drapery.

The pictures 7 to 16 are taken from the collection: ‘To Make An Elephant Out Of A Mosquito’. This a dutch saying: ‘Van een mug een olifant maken.’ Which basically means: that someone makes something bigger and worse then it actually is. This saying is often used when someone makes a big problem over nothing. We see shapes that are inspired by the shape of an elephant like the shoes of the first picture in this post. And there is a mosquito pattern all over the dresses. Then there are the jumpsuits which makes the arm appear as the nose of an elephant. Picture 13 and 14 have a pattern that looks like this up close:

He told us: ‘I use these catwalk shows for publicity, a way to show what I’m capable of.’And he sure did!

A folder that contains items for when spring rolls around I need to buy or D.I.Y.  At any rate, these Viktor & Rolf bracelets blew my mind;  again. LOVE!

Their ready-to-wear collection for Autumn 2009 isn’t that new at all but since it’s freezing right now I decided to do a post about this season’s clothing. And since there’s still 50 percent of Dutch blood flowing trough my veins I thought it should be about Viktor & Rolf. In their ready-to- wear collection for the Fall 2009 have those neutral colors that can be seen on almost every runway this season. But we’re still talking about Viktor & Rolf and who are they when they don’t add a little crazy touch to them. I see alot of geometric shapes that come in small details but also draped garments and neutrals (as I’ve said before in this post). Personally I think the main focus in these garments is in the overall shape of them. The details look magnificent, big bold and beautiful mixed with minimalism. The Greek sculptures that were on the runway kind of showed were they got their inspiration from.

The other day I told you guys about the new LBD collections by Viktor & Rolf. Looks like the LBD virus is contagious, because not only Viktor & Rolf are designing a line, dutch designer Daryl van Wouw designed three versions of the little black dress for this Christmas.

The dresses are made of different fabric (leather, silk etc) and are fabulous. You can get them at your Daryl van Wouw store!

Ps. Will everybody stop making fabulous things NOW. My christmas wishlist is overflowing!

I love Viktor & Rolf. I can’t help it. So you can see why the following news got me exited. They are designing five little black dresses! And not just now, every season they will make five different versions of the LBD.

For their first LBD collection, they call ‘Black Dress Capsule Collection’, they designed very chic dresses like a strapless mini-dress with a huge bow on top or a straight dress that ends just above the knee and has a chiffon upperside.

Prices start at 730 euros and you can get them at your Viktor & Rolf boutique’s!

I have grown more and more irritated over the past months at the misuse of the word ”couture”. 

Today I seen the most irksome and awful fashion show that had the couture label slapped across the top .  The dresses were schlocky, unedited,  and garish. Adding fur, rhinestones, illusion netting, horsehair in unneeded and unwanted places, feathers here and there and happening to sew the shabang by hand does not equal a couture dress. 

By definition couture (haute couture) means high fashion clothing that is made to order.  The garments are made from the highest quality materials on earth, are fitted to the millimeter on each client and are made almost exclusively by hand techniques. 

 Haute couture designers are members of (those in France where couture was started by Charles Worth) Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture after meeting a list of legal requirements. The word is  protected under law.  

There are many designers who are couture designers (technically) but are not legally such in France.

Most couture designers today carry a RTW line in addition to their couture houses.  Mostly because of the great profit involved in designing rtw as most people simply aren’t interested in custom clothing of any sort including couture.  

Sure, I live in a little country, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have talent! It’s more the opposite: we have só much talent. Especially when it considers fashiontalent. Just to name a few: Viktor&Rolf, Daryl van Wouw, Claes Iversen, Paul Herbers (head of Louis Vuitton man), Spijkers & Spijkers, Monique Collignon and I can go on and on like this.

Yet again we can be proud of our fashiontalent, the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen is on her way to big international succes. From the 23st of November untill the 6th of December you can find her collection in the British luxury store Harrods!

So, if you don’t live in Holland, but love her designs anyway, go to Harrods for your own Iris van Herpen!
