“Forests in Perpetuity”.

There has been a great deal of debate as to how best manage the necessary re-establishment of the previous forestry areas , with campaigners arguing for and against a complete moratorium on building and issuance of certifications of forestry in these once protected areas -culminating in a statement by the Government that a bill will be put before parliament to deal with the issue of protecting the former forest land.

The main proposals

The draft legislation that is being proposed , suggests that all land caught in the fires should have a mandate issued by the forestry department :

1. Forbidding building or any form of development on the land until that said land is “released” by a further subsequent government mandate

2. The land is to be protected and nurtured to allow regrowth by prohibiting animals / livestock to graze the

land. In the bill measures are proposed requiring adjacent landowners with grazing animals to protect the integrity of the boundaries to prevent livestock entering the regrowth zones.

Andie Cox , Partner in Location property is pleased the Government is acting to protect the integrity of the burnt areas.

“The fires in 2005 and 2007 were terrifying , in Elounda – Crete, especially. A large area of mountainside was completely stripped of cover and some houses perilously close to burning.

This forestry cover is not just about whether you can build or not , it has a far more important function in preventing run off in the rainy season. Land without natural forestry cover destroyed in this way quickly becomes at danger of being yet further affected by rainfall and it’s especially pleasing to see such a pro-active stance planned by the Government.“

Protocol, protocol protocol !

From a buyers prospective, Andie insists little has changed

“The English word Protocol derives from a Greek word, and the protocol or methodology for buying land has not changed with this announcement. We have always insisted our clients have a valid certificate from the forestry authority before even entering into a conditional deposit, so anybody who has bought through Location is unaffected by the draft bill.

This is less about individual plots forestry certificates, but on a grander scale about preventing further deforestation and further degradation of a distressed landscape encouraging regrowth and stabilisation and as such must be welcomed by all.”

Located in Guangdong Province in southern China, Shenzhen is a sub-provincial city, bordering the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong to the south and Dongguan and Huizhou to the north. Due to its strategic location, Shenzhen provides great potentials for economic growth and is considered the economic capital of the country.

Sometimes, Shenzhen is referred to as the backyard of Hong Kong, since it is within close proximity to Hong Kong and hence allows for a convenient day trip from Shenzhen to Hong Kong or vice versa. Shenzhen boasts of a long history of more than 1500 years. Once a small, typical fishing village known as Baoan County, the destination got its present name in 1979 when Deng Xiaoping, the then Communist Party Chairman, gave the location the designation of Special Economic Zone.

Today, Shenzhen is a blend of traditional Chinese culture and modernity and enjoys all the benefits and comforts of an international city, with superb attractions, state of the art road and transportation system, and high quality as well as advanced information system.

Administered by the Guangdong Provincial Government, Shenzhen is divided into six zones, such as, Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Yantian, Bao’an and Longgang, among which first four are located in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ.) Luohu is in the eastern section of the Special Economic Zone, and is considered the financial and trade center of the city.

Located at the heart of SEZ, Futian serves as the destination’s center of administration, culture, and commerce. Nanshan is regarded as the learning as well as western logistics of Shenzhen and is in the western part of the Special Economic Zone. Situated to the east of SEZ, Yantian is much famed as the center of tourism.

Neighboring Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay, Longgang district is popular as the center for hi-tech export processing and logistics distribution. When comes to Bao’an, it occupies an area of about 715 square kilometers and serves as a base for modern agriculture. In addition, Shenzhen is also a provincial city under the control of the Central Government.

Al though, the city doesn’t has as many historical attractions that other destinations in China have, Shenzhen has created great other attractions in order to entertain and educate visitors touring here. For instance, a visit to the China Folk Cultural Village would be a great way to get a clear idea on different types of folk cultures of the country.

Sprawling over an area of about 500 acres, the China Folk Cultural Village consists of more than 20 unique cottages, each of them representing the distinctive architecture of various ethnic groups. The Village also hosts a number of interesting festivals including the Water-Splashing Festival, the Torch Festival – a traditional event of the Yi ethnic group, and Knife Bar Festival – celebrated by the Lisu ethnic group. In addition, people touring here can also take part in folk dances and shop handicraft items.

Situated in Shenzhen’s Oversea Chinese Town, Splendid China is another prominent attraction in the destination. Also known as Shenzhen Miniature Kingdom, Splendid China is one of the largest miniature scenery parks in the world, with replicas of almost all landmarks in the country, such as the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses in Xian, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Old Summer Palace, Ancient Observatory of Beijing, Potala Palace, the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, Mount Huangshan, the Li River, and much more.

This scenic miniature park is managed by the China Travel Services, and is divided into two sections such as a Scenic Spot Area and a Comprehensive Area. It is estimated that there are more than 50,000 ceramic figures in the park.

Attractions in Shenzhen also include the Window of the World, a replica park situated in the western region of the city. The focal point of the park is the flamboyant replicas of the world’s wonderful as well as scenic sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Tower of London, Roman Colosseum, the Pyramids, Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon, Manhattan, and Mahamuni Pagoda of Rangoon. In short, when you leave the park after seeing these replicas, you feel as if you have toured the world in a day.

Other not to miss attractions in the city include Shenzhen Museum, Shenzhen Grand Theater, He Xiangning Art Gallery, and Guan Shanyue Art Gallery. Additionally, Shenzhen is a shoppers’ paradise with such options as Louhu Commercial City, Dongmen Laojie or the Old Street, and Huaqiang Bei Rd. Above all, Shenzhen provides tourists visiting the destination with superb accommodation as well as dining options.

Hello Paar, I understand your love of Jesus, Mary and Moses. However, about Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster and Cyrus, are you sure you are not violating the Quranic injunction?

Buddha particularly was an agnostic or a Deist who never really discussed about divinity and supernatural in his teaching. Maybe your answer will be that these people were originally prophets but their teachings interpolated over time period. Right?

How about Confucius? Do you love him too?

Hi friends.

Since Quran is a Word of Revelation from the All-Wise, the Creator- God Allah YHWH; He sent Messenger Prophets to all the lands of the world to guide the humanity to His path. Now that the world has become like a close-net village; all these Messengers Prophets have been honored by Muhammad. The truthful Revelations, deeds/acts of all these Messengers Prophets have been secured in Quran; and their role has been set by God to introduce their nations and lead them to Muhammad – the Seal of Messengers Prophets; Muhammad authenticates their truthfulness, under lasting principles mentioned in Quran.

I love Jesus, Mary, Moses, Moses’ mother, Krishna, Buddha, Lao Tse , Confucius, Socrates, Zoroaster, Cyrus etc great leaders of the world in Ethics, Morals and Spirituality; I love them all; this is the teaching of Quran/Islam/Muhammad as explained by the Promised Messiah 1835-1908. I think it has got a lot of common sense and wisdom; my Atheist and Agnostic friends would admit.

Visitors to Van Phuc Silk Village who want to enjoy the peaceful environment of a craft village and the chance to buy an authentic piece of silk might be disappointed.

A craft village ruined by market mechanism?

Many Van Phuc villagers have become rich from silk. Nguyen Van Sinh, chairman of the Van Phuc Craft Village Association, says over 1,000 out of 1,200 families in the village are involved in the silk trade. Some 600 of them have silk weaving enterprises, with several having nearly 20 power-looms each.

Thanks to this traditional trade, more than 60 percent of workers in the village are employed and have stable income of more than 1 million dong per month. Some large-scale silk traders are also established.

However, the back side of the market mechanism is that some traders cheat customers by selling Chinese or substandard silk products in the name of Van Phuc.

The village was very crowded during a Saturday. However, many people left Van Phuc empty handed.

Thanh, a woman from Yen Phu ward, Tay Ho district, told Tien Phong’s reporter: “Several years ago, I could buy several pieces of silk whenever I went to Van Phuc. Today I buy nothing because I cannot distinguish between authentic Van Phuc silk and fake silk”.

“It is wrong that a traditional silk village sells cheap origin silk that I can buy at cloth stalls in other markets in Hanoi like Dong Xuan, Ninh Hiep and Hom at 20,000 to 30,000 dong a meter. Here, the same cheap silk is priced at 2-3 times higher,” she added.

Khanh, a visitor from the central city of Da Nang, was very happy to buy a lot of silk products as gifts for his family. However, an experienced customer said most of these things are Chinese cloth.

A Tien Phong’s reporter spent half a day visiting all the big shops in the village to ask for the shopping experience and she was told to visit big and prestigious ones to buy silk. Van Phuc silk is only in the form of cloth, not ready made clothes.

Silk association’s role limited

Sinh, chairman of the Van Phuc Craft Village Association, admitted that some shops in Van Phuc sell silk of unclear origins. He said the village has 150 silk shops but up to 80 percent are hired by non locals. The association can only try to persuade them, rather than intervene in their business.

Many customers don’t insist on buying true Van Phuc silk, but anything good and cheap, Sinh said.

Sinh also said that though he is a senior silk weaver, it is also difficult for him to distinguish between Van Phuc silk and faked silk.

The association planed to weave “Van Phuc silk” words on cloths produced by over 400 members. However, Sinh said that this is a future project because the association is awaiting for local agency assistance.

The association also calls for silk traders in Van Phuc to only sell Van Phuc silk to resume local village values but it seems very difficult.

According to the Van Phuc Craft Village Association, the village attracts from 3,500 to 5,000 visitors a day and the ratio of local and foreign visitors is 50-50. Up to 65-70 percent of its products are sold on the spot.

And there are villages of Hanok named Bukchon Hanok Village and Namsangol Hanok Village. Joseon Dynasty’s royal family, nobilities and high-ranking officials lived there.

In the late Joseon Dynasty, the large-scaled land was partitioned into small-sized building sites because of social and economic reasons. It is assumed that Hanoks closely located together in the village were rebuilt in around 1930. The change in the form of Hanok reflects the densification of the society due to urbanization began at that time in Korea.

The present day, still some people live in Bukchon. That means Bukchon is private residential areas. So Seoul bought a Hanok to exhibit to citizens as a traditional culture center. You can see inside of hanok, and feel cozy.

Nowadays, contemporary and tradition coexist in Bukchon. There are not only Korean traditional restaurants, clothing shops and workshops but also cafes, restaurants, boutiques and galleries near the Bukchon.

The village was started in the 1870’s and was originally called Posta, (the post), It was the focal point for farming and raising sheep. It was also a stage stop between Santa Fe and the military outpost at Fort Wingate. It quickly grew with the mandatory saloons, blacksmith shop, stores. Richard Heller ran the Heller Store and post office for a good many years. Cabezon flourished until the 1940’s.
Jeremiah and I went to Gouyave today. It’s the largest fishing village on the island and way up through the mountains. It was quite the adventure getting there and back. There was a huge landslide where half of a mountain collapsed to at one point we had to get out of the bus, walk through all the rubble for about half a mile to the other side to get onto another bus. Anyway, here are some of the photos from today.

My favorite two parts of the trip were as follows: we made it up into the village and we were the only white people there. All of a sudden Jeremiah goes, “oh never mind there’s another white guy,” and points down the street. We get down there eventually and realize it was just a mannequin. How lame were we?

Second awesome part was that there was a cruise ship in town. So of course all the locals were confusing us for tourists when we got into the city. We were getting super annoyed so we decided to mess with the tourists. Every time we passed one of them Jeremiah would greet them in this insane British accent. I got him to start saying “pip pip cheerio” to them and one lady turned to her husband and said, “What did he say? I didn’t understand him. I thought they spoke English here!!” It was a lot funnier in person, trust me. I had tears I was laughing so hard.

We’ll be much happier people if we can be more thankful.

[2]
At about 1 am the roosters in Sijangkang would start crowing, only to be responded to by other roosters, and this would last for less than half an hour. Then there’s silence, when I think they have gone back to sleep (normally perched on mango trees or low hanging langsat or rambutan branches).

At around 4 am the crowing frenzy would resume, with about the intensity as the previous one. Again, after a short while they stop.

I would like to find out whether they would do it again. But no, I’m to sleepy for that now. My watch is saying 0458 hrs. Good night morning to all.

One was waiting for the Number 5 bus, the other was a Thaxted resident who was walking past and stopped for a chat. I couldn’t quite hear where the lady waiting for the bus was from – the next village I think – but she said, quite proudly, that she had lived there for 30 years. Her friend chuckled and replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes, “You can only say you’re from Thaxted when you’ve lived here for 60 years.”

I started calculating. Ok, so I’ve now lived in Thaxted for four months. If I add on another 59 years and 8 months … … Oh dear, it doesn’t look as if I’ll make it.

(Thane) Yesterday, when Thanksgiving was being celebrated in America, I paid a visit to a rural Indi

(Thane) Yesterday, when Thanksgiving was being celebrated in America, I paid a visit to a rural Indian village. The visit was a stark reminder of the fact that India’s economic growth has so far largely failed to trickle down to the poorest members of the population. While Delhi and other Indian megacities have been visibly transformed in recent years, overall rates of poverty and malnourishment have remained stubbornly high.

Indeed, the persistence of such stark poverty in India is an absolute scandal. The rate of child hunger is the highest in the world, far higher even than the rate of child hunger in sub-Saharan Africa, and child malnourishment has hardly decreased, if at all, in the past two decades.

Most villagers have seen almost no change in the material conditions of their lives. In the village I visited, most houses did not have power, there was open sewage running along the streets, and it was many kilometers away from any health care providers. Here’s a picture of a shack made entirely of cow dung:

Here’s one of the larger buildings in the village–note that the road alongside it has an open sewer running down the side.

I was in the village to observe a human-rights training seminar being run by an NGO, a program that we hope to expand to the villages around Jindal Global University. The villagers were invited to share some of their problems, and the list was disheartening. No doctors, no transportation, no jobs, lots of death from malaria and rabies. The schoolteachers often didn’t come to the schools, and there was rarely any food provided. I couldn’t imagine having to face every day in such a titanic struggle just to get the basic necessities of subsistence.

I visited one of the schools, which had known we were coming, so all the teachers and students were in attendance. They even had a “high-quality” lunch that day, which was a small bowl of mushy rice, with a few kernels of corn in it. Here, the students stand in their outdoor classroom in front of the one piece of technology the school has–a battered blackboard.

There is clearly such a long way to go in India, and it’s important not to lose sight of that fact because of the relative creature comforts in Delhi. Just to get a sense of the contrast, we stopped off in Gurgaon, Delhi’s ritziest suburb, on our way back home, to check out the largest mall in Asia. Here’s a picture of the interior, complete with a grand piano in the middle.

I had only traveled about twenty miles from the village, but I was in a whole different world. I’m very thankful for the blessings in my life, and I’m once again reminded of the need to work so that more can enjoy those blessings. It may be a cliche, but it’s an important one to remember on Thanksgiving.

The first two minutes of the film Chocolat (2000) are highly revealing as to the concept of what film academic S. Brent Plate describes in his book Religion and Film (2008) as two ‘contrasting spaces’ which essentially represent two ‘contrasting worlds.’ During this introductory segment the viewer is able to become accustomed to (through a number of cinematic lingual elements) a central strand in the film’s narrative; the way in which regimented religious structure and pleasure driven business can become two conflicting sectors in society.

The first thing heard in the film is piano playing musical notes on a higher register; Rachel Portman’s score suggests a tranquillity and the viewer may feel enticed; yet the fact that it is played in a minor key suggests that something is foreboding, perhaps this calmness and peace will soon disappear. This is relevant as the order of the town is destroyed when the new chocolate shop appears.

The first titles that appear are basic in their format; this simplicity matches the feel of the town we will later visit. The town is a place which on the surface of things seems devoid of modern complications that perhaps the church feels it is able to keep in order. Beyond this simplicity, the white and black colours suggest that their actions may be viewed as one of two things; right or wrong, which contrasts the complexities of the confectionery seller with her questionable morality.

Beyond the titles, the first things filmed are what look like clouds, which the camera glides through. The viewer may assume that we are now descending through the clouds from somewhere high up in the sky; are we being told that God is watching? This could be true when seen in relation to the church and it’s aims. However, when the camera moves beyond these apparent clouds, we see that we are not descending from the sky, rather moving horizontally through what looks like mist. This illusion could well imply that the supposed divine intentions of the town’s religious leaders are in no way inflicted by a higher power, rather by human will.

The long shot of the entire town reveals a number of things; firstly the size of the town; it is a small place where presumably not many people live, which suggests that any changes to daily life will be noticed by all of the town’s inhabitants and that any sort of control; be it political, criminal, commercial or religious, won’t take much to create a stir.

Secondly this long shot establishes the position of the town; it is high up on a hill and in the middle of the countryside. This could well mean that the town is difficult to reach and maybe is a place that is untainted by the proverbial ‘big dark world’ around it. This sets the film up as the shop owner moves into the town and is a modern and fresh addition to a town which is steeped in traditional values.

Thirdly this long shot reveals the church as the tallest and most central landmark of the town. The viewers eyes are immediately drawn to it, which serves the purpose of it being the institution that’s existence is threatened. It is at the centre of the town and the centre of the lives of the town’s citizens.

Two sound effects are heard when the music stops; birds singing and church bells ringing. The birds once again allude to the town’s apparent tranquillity but also could be read to symbolically represent new life and new beginnings; something which the town is about to experience. Things are about to change and become transformed.

The church bells are a familiar sound to even the most pagan of viewers; most people know that they are rung in order to call people to church, or at least to draw attention to it. These bells however are not tuneful, but are somewhat monotonous and off-key; which could well refer to the fact that the weekly routine of going to church is not a joy to these people, these bells are not joyous or inviting, rather they are boring and dreary. The viewer when hearing this will perhaps view see that this place does not achieve the things that a good church should; contrastly it is a place of boredom and weekly duty.

We are now shown a straight on shot of Comte Reynaud (Alfred Molina), this shot suggests that he is someone who is not necessarily of any threat; but the straightness insures that he is definitely in control. As people pass him and enter the church, this notion is confirmed when he signals to a man to remove his hat, almost like a school teacher. This is not a man who lets anything go unnoticed, especially rebellion; something that Vianne (Juliette Binoche) has plenty of.

The costume choice of black, his removed hat and the facial hair on his upper lip (moustache) all suggest that Comte is a man of conservative persuasion. This prepares the viewer to see him in juxtaposition to Vianne who is presented as progressive and daring.

The church is framed from a lower view-point suggesting its domineering nature. This church is not a place that is open to sinners who can find solace in it’s forgiving nature; rather it is a place which gives it’s members no freedom or joy; something which the chocolate shop can happily offer (especially in the month of lent).

A French church, similar to the one used in Chocolat.

A good point on the fact that this is a wide-angle shot is made by Plate;

A significant early shot is taken from the opening of what will become the chocolate shop, and the wide-angle camera is forced to point high to take in the height of the church towering above it.

The fact that this shot is taken from where the chocolate shop is established implies that these two places are in head to head conflict which is definitely seen throughout the film in the fact that both places stand for such different values.

This opening sequence of filmic images all combine to portray the film’s core narrative line; two very different worlds colliding. Those who manage to watch the film all the way to the end see that the two world’s eventually settle their differences and that Vianne undergoes an earth shattering change of her very own. This film does not necessarily serve to highlight a negativity towards the Christian church as a whole; rather it’s message discourages regimented and freedom infringment in religion and in politics. In the same way, the film is not necessarily encouraging chocolate binges or revolutionary retail, rather it would be better to read it as an acknowledgement of the beauty of freedom and enjoyment (namely the enjoyment of Chocolate).

Bukchon Hanok Village is one of traditional area in Korea. It is locate in seoul, near the Jongno. Bukchon is not a limited area. It is just group of many towns like Sogyeokdong, Sagan-dong, Gyedong etc. There are a lot of nice views and great restaurant. because of it, Bukchon has become a good travel stage in Korea

Actually, most of Hanok in Bukchon is not a traditional Korean house. Traditional Hanok is big and solemn. Bukchon’s Hanok is smaller than the others and it doesn’t give us a feeling like grand or quiet. Instead of them, it feels cute, vital etc.

-Bukchon’s Hanoks

Bukchon’s Hanok doesn’t use for house. but it’s expenditure is a cultured-place like cafe, restaurant, gallery. They are new typed Hanok with new typed Korean traditional system.

Bukchon is the place that gives us a fresh feelings even though they are located in center of urban environment. Bukchon’s beauty, is come from differences with others.
