Sólo hace falta pasear por el centro para darse cuenta de la cantidad de negocios que hay – ya sin mencionar Oxford Street y su enormes tiendas de ropa de cuatro plantas – y de la ropa que se puede encontrar. Pero dejando de lado las grandes cadenas comerciales, si nos alejamos un poco del centro y nos vamos hacía la zona de Chelsea, podremos encontrar un encantador lugar, dónde  también hay varios negocios, pero mucho más originales. Estoy hablando de Notting Hill y la zona de Portobello.

Notting Hill es un barrio famoso por sus preciosas casas, pero también cabe a destacar la cantidad de paradas con objetos antiguos y únicos que podemos encontrar.

En estas calles, conviven las tiendas más típicas inglesas, esperando ser curioseadas por los amantes del refinado gusto anglosajón y por curiosos a los que les encantan las reliquias y las piezas únicas.

Vestidos, collares, zapatos, bolsos y hasta guantes de boxeo se pueden encontrar en estas tiendas, sin olvidar la camiseta con el logotipo “Keep Calm and Carry On” y todas sus versiones.

Si te adentras en estas calles, al final de estas llegas a un curioso mercado vintage, tan de moda ahora. Para los que desconozcan este término, un mercado de objetos de segunda mano, dónde puedes encontrar desde vinilos, hasta máquinas fotográficas.

Hice una pequeña selección de todas las fotos que tomé para que veáis de que tipo de objetos os estoy hablando, y para que si visitáis Londres, no dudéis ni un segundo en visitar esta zona.

Firstly and most importantly, I totally came across James Bond’s very own personal train. You may laugh… but how can you deny this?!

James Bond

This was spotted just before the entrance to Kings Cross station on my way to work at Handel House Museum last Sunday. The sun was shining which meant commuters on the train actually looked happy for once.

The glorious bank holiday weekend at the start of May began on the Saturday with a compulsory chilling out on Windmill Hill in Hitchin in the sunshine. The views over the town never get old.

On the Sunday, a couple of friends went to Madame Tussauds which was a laugh to say the least. A whole room dedicated to One Direction… A bit much perhaps? This was followed by lunch in Regent’s Park, where there were pedalos galore, not to mention some posh Chelsea people discussing where they should play poker later on and if one of their friends had finished shooting yet, tally ho!

My best friend Jess bestowed that magic news upon me that she’d booked us tickets to go see Paramore live at Wembley, who cares if we’ve seen them before? P-A-R-A-M-O-R-E. We want more.

My parents have been away this past week sunning it in Spain, I was a bit too over excited when they came home and produced this gorgeous real leather bag…

Finally, when working in London this Sunday I walked past Bulter & Wilson down South Molton Street (as I always do) and was caught by their shiny new Great Gatsby themed displays. I want to own it all!

PIERRE CARDIN mod 30/7 white 1981 sunglassespreservation

PIERRE CARDIN first made these ski goggles back in 1981, for James Bond in the the movie: “For your eyes only”. Roger Moore, who played James Bond, wore the black version of these ski goggles. The film production decided to exchange the PIERRE CARDIN covered headband straps for a simple black logoless version. The retail model was produced with PIERRE CARDIN logos intact all throughout the band.

Special agent 007′s ski goggles did, however, have the PIERRE CARDIN logos intact on both sides of the rubber frame.

Model 30/7 was produced in several colors, including white, red and black. All three colors are included in the sunglassespreservation archives. These ski goggles were produced in west Germany, as stated on the bottom of the product.

The headband straps are securely tightened by golden metal PIERRE CARDIN logo intarsed clips.

The overall construction of these shades is very sturdy and well produced as usually softer plastics from the seventies and eighties become britle and fall apart but that is not the case with this particular model as the deadstock we have in our archives is still in extremly good condition and does not show signs of aging and wear. The only weak spot are the glues used to combine all the parts together as these have yellowed in time. Even though they have yellowed, they still fullfill their purpose of glueing perfectly.

The goggles have holes on both the upper and lower parts of the frame to permit air ventilation while the wearer is moving and skiing. The ventilation parts are covered up with a thin layer of black foam. The foam is the most delicate part of these shades.

The back part of the frame is padded with real authentic soft leather lining which fits perfectly to the face without leaving any traces of pressure no matter how long you keep these goggles on. Today’s ski goggles almost never have leather used in their manufacturing. That is a pitty as leather is still today the softest material for our skin.

The PIERRE CARDIN ski goggles came in white cotton pouches with light blue PIERRE CARDIN logos printed on them.

Wir haben ihn genutzt und einen Ausflug zum Kloster Kamp in Kamp-Lintfort gemacht und uns den wunderschönen Terrassengarten angeguckt. Danach sind wir durch Essen spaziert und waren Kaffee trinken im berühmten Café Overbeck – leider keinen Kalten Hund, der war aus, dafür gab es aber ebenfalls sehr guten Baumkuchen. Ich bin nun endlich auch wieder richtig gesund und werde in den nächsten Tagen einiges nachholen und posten – bis bald!

Yesterday was my last day as a twen and also the last sunny day for at least a week, according to the weather forecast. We made a tour to the monastery Kamp in Kamp-Lintfort and took a walk through it’s beautiful terraced garden. We drove to Essen afterwards and had coffee and cake at the famous Café Overbeck. I also finally recovered from my cold and will catch up with posts and other stuff in the next few days – see you soon!

I expect normal service to resume in June, when I am teaching a Vintage Dressmaking Course, so expect many posts of how to sew ‘the proper way’!

I’m back today to share with you another gift that I created for my darling niece. For this project I wanted to alter a tin that I recently received some Natio Spa goodies in for my birthday. Every girl needs a treasure box so of course Aunty Amy made one for miss Skye’s 3rd birthday. I hope she will treasure it forever and my girls even created some beaded jewellery to start off her treasure collection.

Firstly I had to prime my surface as the tin would repell almost all my water based paint mediums that I wanted to work with. To do this, I have coated a layer of Multi Medium (Gel Medium would work too) and I have then cut up the A2Z Scraplets Starburst Large to fit my tin lid and also adhered with the Multi Mediuim. I added some Multi Medium to the surface of the chipboard too and because I was in a rush, I have used my heat gun to dry really quickly after each wet step. I allowed the Multi Medium to boil and bubble so it would create some added texture to that fabulous starburst. I then added some fabulous lace from my stash around the base of the tin using the Multi Medium also.

The next step was to finish priming and because the Multi Medium dries clear, I had to add some regular Gesso to cover the printing on the outside of the box. Again, after drying with my heat gun, I have painted the entire base and lid with some Antique White Paint from Kaisercraft.

Once the paint was dry, I have rubbed a heap of Viva Decor Inka Gold over all that fabulous texture to help it pop! A golden treasure box for my niece how special! If you don’t have Inka Gold, grab an ink pad and use your finger to add some colour softly to the raised texture.

Now that my tin was painted and ready, I have added some Cheese Cloth and a tonne of Prima flowers, Birds Nest, Handmade Halo Charms and some wire swirls. I also had this fabulous bird in my stash that looked perfect on top and to help blend the project together, I have added some Inka Gold to the tips of all the flowers and onto the Bird roughly as well.

I pretty much melted the first few hours, but once the sun started to set and it cooled off it was so much fun!
I met tons of gorgeous ladies, booked two future shoots, and did three shoots on site as well as took lots of photos of lovely ladies walking around and of course cars!
Me and Stevie had a freaking blast and we want to start doing as many car shows as possible together ’cause it was just too fun!!!!

It’s a little blurry and temperamental depending on the time of day, but what it lacks in clarity it compensates for in angle: I can take much nicer full-body shots here than I could in my old living room.

I feel vaguely Hitchcockian. My life tends to deal heavily in motifs, and Hitchcockian themes have definitely been prominent lately. I saw my first of his films, Vertigo, last week, and I haven’t gotten it out of my head since.
