Schublaben è un negozio che vende o realizza su misura armadi, librerie e dispense. La struttura dei mobili è nuova, ma i cassetti sono tutti rigorosamente riciclati. Lo showroom si trova a Berlino ma è possibile acquistare anche sul sito.

Da prendere in considerazione se siete alla ricerca di un pezzo di arredamento unico e decisamente originale. Opurre se vi trovate sul groppone il vecchio cassettone di nonna e non sapete davvero cosa farne.

I could have sworn I posted these last year, but it doesn’t look like it. The one (and only) redeeming quality of parades, in my opinion, is the collection of bizarre, surreal and kitschy props.

Here’s a collection of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Floats from the 1920’s and 1930’s.

Corría el año 1978 y yo era un chiquillo de 10 años de edad. La librería Las Novedades e incluso los quioscos rebosaban de material DC y Marvel en versiones hispanas. Editorial Novaro (México) mandaba para hispanoamérica e incluso España las versiones “castellanas” de los cómics gringos y ese año publicaron par de joyas de la Silver Age: “Superman vs. Spiderman” (recuerdo claramente verla en el stand de la Librería Washington pero no la compré pues mi mamá me había autorizado a llevar un sólo comic) y “Superman vs. Muhammad Alí” (esta no la pelamos mi hermano y yo).

31 años después esta revista es considerada una verdadera joya Silver Age y también la pieza cumbre del ilustrador Neal Adams (él y Dick Giordano se mandaron el grueso del trabajo junto a unos cuantos entintadores y fondistas). Milagrosamente la revista sobrevivió nuestras peleas infantiles y hoy en día aún la conservamos en un respetable buen estado.

La versión Novaro es bastante fiel a la edición gringa, con el imperdonable error de que la contra-tapa no se publicó por venderla como espacio publicitario, y en este caso la contraportada era vital pues la magnífica carátula de Adams era una doble página en la que el público que asistía al combate entre Superman y Alí eran celebridades de la época: Jimmy Carter y su esposa, Lucy Ball, Christopher Reeve (con anteojos), Sony Bono, The Jacksons Five, Batman, Telly Savalas y muchos otros más.

Los originales de esta obra son escasos puesto que Adams y Giordano los conservaron como patrimonio familiar, algunos pocos se han subastado y fueron los que obtuvieron los entintadores y fondeadores, puesto que es tradición (desde hace algunas décadas para acá, los trabajos más vintage se los quedaron casi todos) en estas editoriales devolver originales a los artistas en proporción a su trabajo en la revista.

Cabe destacar que la tripa interna está mucho mejor ilustrada que la portada, la diagramación del cómic es realmente innovadora para la época, abundan las doble páginas, las secuencias dinámicas, las ilustraciones rompen maravillosamente las viñetas y si uno lee hoy día la revista no percibe el paso del tiempo a nivel narrativo. El personaje de Alí además está magníficamente retratado.

A nivel de argumento la historia es bastante entretenida y los diálogos entre el “bocazas” Alí y Superman están bien logrados, no es una obra maestra en cuanto al guión pero logra cautivar.

De esta maravillosa historia se han intentado hacer re-impresiones, pero sin éxito alguno, se rumorea en la web que Muhammad Alí no autoriza nuevos tirajes consciente del valor coleccionable de esta rareza, a pesar de que Novaro mandó 40.000 ejemplares hoy día no es fácil hacerse con una de estas revistas, más difícil aún sera la “DC original version”.

Was forced to wake up at 10 am today Been waking up late, lately, am usually up by either 8 or 9, maybe I’m still exhausted from all the former studying thanks to the exams. Anyway, followed my dad and aunt to Central Market in KL today, with the idea that my aunt was going grocery shopping, since I had never been there before, only to realise that I was visiting a tourist centre once I was in the building. I was pretty taken aback (in a good way), because the whole area was totally unexpected

Came across an old antique shop which sold some amazing vintage lamps and chandeliars, and also came across a super old camera, bicycle and radio. I currently have my eye on this one lamp, where it’s stand had embelishments and the lamp shade was made out of glass and had these colourful dragonfly motifs, THE THOUGHT OF THAT LAMP IS MAKING ME FEEL SO EXCITED AGAIN !! The chandeliar was gorgeous too, twas made out of glass, and had tear-droplets-crystals hanging from it, but I really loved that particular lamp. Anyone who visits Central Market and buys it, I swear, I will behead you! Do you have any idea how long I’ve been looking for an antique shop like this one ?! The last time I visited one was in 2003, when I was 11, in Sydney, Australia, if only I had an interest and taste in the vintage style back then (not that it was even in but then again ..)

Came across a few other shops that sold the most gorgeous of rings. Have already made plans with my cousin to go back there next week, and this time I will be armed with a pocket full of cash, a shopping list, and a head & mouth ready to bargain away

Besides that, we also visited this art shop, where the pictures were made out of recycled wood and tree branches. I tell you, it was soooo cool. I have my eye on this one painting, which would be more suitable for a house than a room, but it was very interesting. Wood art I guess ? Gaaaaahh, need to drag mum there, if she is even up for it. That lamp, those rings, that wood art, that bag, that other bag, that stopwatch (i know wtf, but its gold, and has a cover with embelishments) I don’t even care if the quality is compromisable, I WAAAAAANT  !!!! 

Sigh, I honestly did not have any mood to really shop today. Was too preoccupied with entertaining my cousin’s 3 year old kid = good exercise for me. He was literally running around everywhere, looking for a window just so he could stare at his favourite mode of transport (buses) and tell me whether or not they were clean buses or dirty buses. He is honestly the cutest button on earth (and he also has the prettiest eyes haha hansem boyy!) Also, spent some time catching up with my cousin, walking here and thereeee talking non stop, can’t wait for next week

So yeah that was my day, spent 8 in hours in that ‘mall’. Twas sort’ve of a small family reunion la.

I’m happy with my new finding, screw branded items (not like I was ever into them anyways) speaking of which, my other cousin gave me her Topshop birthday voucher to use, since she’s based in Spore, and the 20% discount voucher is only valid in Malaysia. To spend or not to spend ? I have at least a week before it expires, so much to shop, so little time.

Directed by Lone Scherfig, the film,  An Education has aptly captured the wonderful 1960s with its fashion and the way of life in England – from vinyl records, turntables, the 60s tea dresses and hairstyles, to the 60 cars. The story of a teenage girl who is faced with tough decisions, between a life of what her father wants for her and a life of the outside world that her lover, a much older man had shown her. Why are we so tied up with the pursuit of an academic certificate? Afterall it’s just a paper. The outside world definitely has more to offer than a rigid education path.

Personnellement, je n’ai jamais réussi à construire un truc potable avec des Lego. Que ce soit un véhicule, une base pour mes personnages ou des créations abstraites, tout ce que mes mains parvenaient à assembler ressemblait vaguement à un tas difforme.

Alors quand je vois cette plaque Link et Zelda (époque NES) réalisée par Naneto avec les petites briques de couleur de notre enfance, forcément, je pleure. Parce que c’est beau, et parce que je me dis que j’étais vraiment bidon quand j’étais jeune. D’autant plus quand je tombe la minute suivante sur la casquette New Era réalisée par Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, que je trouve tout simplement dingue. C’est décidé, à Noël je rachète une boîte de briques.

so if my new friends nina and ryan don’t make you wanna move to LA i don’t know what will.  seriously. um today was a flippin’ fabulous thanksgiving eve day!  my bosses are fantastic and gave us a 5 day weekend and so i finally explored more parts of la LA land.  i explored silver lake and los feliz and glendale and somewhere by forest lawn grove and all sorts of ten freeway shenanigans.  lurvvvvely.  and i FINALLY visited homecshop with friend nina.  throughout my day-off-t0-end-all-days-off i got everything i need to have a happy homemade kitschy christmas…i’m talking i am ready to felt and jewel and embroider and flock and cupcake-bake and all the pompoms and kitsy-kaboodles are sprawled all over my bed.

OH!  how could i forget–i visited my first 99CENTS store too which i will now call magic land of eternal chotchkies!. i can’t even begin to describe all the treasures i found and OH WAIT i will tomorrow!  on! a! video! blog!  soooo many treats i cannot even wait to bestow on my unlucky friends and family!

and have i mentioned lately how badly i would like to get some kitschy minx?  (‘cuz is halloween and this shiz scurrry).

She has been my favorite jewelry designer for some time now.  (although there will always be a place of amazingness for jennifer behr’s headbands) and i am going gaga for headbands right now–total headband phase–i think i have about 9 now (the wrap-around kind).  also been scouting for my perfect, 80’s vintage plastic charm necklace on ebay.  remember those?  wish i’d saved my neon yellow one from childhood which charms like sunglasses, a hot dog, an ice cream cone, toothpaste, record, all sorts of crazy fun.  also gaga for gaga’s bad romance video.  can’t watch it enough.
