In July, YOSHIKI received surgery for his cervical vertebra and is reported to be healthy. Healthy enough for him to resume activities with the project, VIOLET UK. He’s back in the studio and hopes to returning to the stage are now a reality.

When he first came out of the hospital the scar was about 5cm, red and swollen. Now after a month and a half, the scar is red but he feels no pain at all now. Even his doctors are surprised.

Well, we’re not surprised, he can go check up on his race team and put out a whole new jewelry line. How can his doctors be surprised at his recovery. This is YOSHIKI we’re talking about.

Even though we think YOSHIKI needs to retire in the music business, aka stop making music that sounds like a broken record, it’s great that he’s making a full recovery. He’s had that condition for a long time, it’s about time he got that taken care. Ten years of a bad back can force a person to finally seek medical attention wouldn’t you say?

This Monday, Yoshiki held a press conference announcing that  Tokyo Dome concerts scheduled for May 2-3 will be going on as planned.

Besides a new song by VIOLET UK, titled “ROSA” will be the main theme of Japanese movie “GOEMON”.

The Zilch version of hide’s song “Psyche” will be in the upcoming film “Catacombs”, the film’s music director is Yoshiki and also features Violet UK’s  “Blue Butterfly”

I hear this is a horror movie that doesn’t involve copious amounts of unnecessary nastines, if that’s true I’m happy Yoshiki is attached to it. I hate torture movies.

Det började med en inställd “Europa-turné”. Många var vi som längtade, men förgäves, efter Gackts första spelning i Tyskland. Gackt hade andra planer. En förmodat svindyr flygbiljett tog honom över atlanten, till hamburgarnas förlovade land, för att softa med Yoshiki som närmast kultförklarats för sin insats i X Japan. Varför visste vi förstås inte, beslutet kändes bara märkligt. Oväntat. Hänsynslöst. Nonchalant. Men. Så kom bomben: i augusti 2006 besöker Yoshiki Otakon, ett av USAs största anime/manga-konvent, där han i egen hög person låter meddela att han och den föredetta Malice Mizer-sångaren (Gackt!) ska starta ett band. Tillsammans!

Det kändes bara för bra för att vara sant, typ som kärlek vid första ögonkastet eller historien om den japanska porslinsguden. Jag menar; hur sannolikt är det egentligen på en skala att två av ens favoritmusiker beslutar sig för att sammanstråla, bara sådär? Typ inte alls. I december samma år tillkom även Sugizo, ytterligare en favorit. Han spelade gura i det fantastiska stilexperimentet Luna Sea – ett band vars rykte tål att jämföras med legendariska X Japan – men har på senare år mest brottats med det ambitiösa, men tråkigt kortlivade The Flare (med Yuna som vokalist). Tre legender, sida vid sida. Spänningen var förstås helt olidlig: gruppen verkade redan då kunna bli hur viktig som helst, men hade fortfarande utrymme för fler (genialiska) medlemmar att skruva upp våra galet höga förväntningar med. Ett halvår senare, 25 maj i år (2007, dummer!), var det dags för nästa stora avslöjande, nästa medlem att träda fram.

Under JRock Revolution – ett slags festival tillägnad “upcoming japanese rockbands” i Los Angeles, arrangerad av Yoshiki själv – utannonseras slutligen S.K.I.N. som bandets namn, varpå Miyavi (som tidigare spelat i Dué le quartz, under namnet “Miyabi”) presenteras som en medlemmarna. Kanske inte lika otippat, med tanke på det frenetiska förhandssnack som alltid råder, men karaktär och visuell stil får ändå valet att förvåna. Lite. Nästan. Miyavi har själv uttryckt önskemålet att “stå och skrika i bakgrunden”, och menar på att det är en aspekt han saknat från att arbeta med andra under sin tid som hysterisk soloartist, men hans otyglade galenskaper kändes ändå lite för… otyglade (?!) för att matcha med övriga förmågor. Just detta gör dock positionen som gitarrist klockren för någon som Miyavi. Det återstår att se: efter deras första gemensamma spelning (Anime Expo, Long Beach, USA 29 juni) vet vi definitivt.

Det är svårt att ogilla tanken. Ambitionerna är trots allt riktigt storartade, med USA-turné och släpp av fullängdare (vars inspelning redan påbörjats) tidigt inplanerat. Och Gackt har en fantastisk röst. Yoshiki är fantastiskt duktig på såväl trummor som piano. Med Sugizo och Miyavi på varsin gitarr verkar det inte kunna bli annat än fantastiskt. Men. Det saknas fortfarande en bassist. Bou, kanske?
