“Glam”

Have you noticed the loose boots  the girls are wearing with leggings?  I think they are the exclamation point for an outfit that is mostly sleek, legging coated legs. They provide the contrast.

I had fun with this painting – playing around with a more illustrative style than I would ordinarily attempt.

Do you know what the biggest surprise that this 30 day challenge has brought me?

The realization that I can really be who I am with my paintings. I can be girly, or philosophical or just generally interested in the details of life.

I guess for a long time I thought that to be successful as an artist I had to find away to fit myself into a mold that I thought would appeal to almost everybody.

That’s a little bit crazy when you think about it. And in some ways I was pulling myself apart – avoiding some topics completely while trying to force myself into others that I wasn’t sure really fit me well.

There is a fine balance between valuing outside feedback and challenging yourself to be even more true to yourself as an artist. And if there is a short cut to figuring that stuff out I haven’t found it yet.

There comes a point in a painting when you must move on.  Wrap it up, onto the next idea and vision.  This week, I’ve wrapped up a few paintings, and the feeling of satisfaction and completion is lovely!  Below you’ll see the finished works.  

"Sunset on Kriebel Mill," 36" by 60", oil on canvas, copyright Jessica Libor 2009

The sunset painting above, “Sunset on Kriebel Mill”, is painted from pictures and memories of the street I grew up on, Kriebel Mill Road.  The time of year is around Thanksgiving, where the seasons are transitioning from autumn to winter.  The branches are bare and look like black lace against the brightly lit sky, but the tone of the earth and foliage left is still warm and autumnal.

This next one, “Red Satin”, is simply a celebration of the colors and textures portrayed.  I have always been drawn to the rich contrast of a deep red and lavender together, and the tapestry print of the violet cloth was so fulfilling to paint.  The slippery satin of the red dress was also fun to execute–I learned a lot painting this one, and hope to do more like it.  Also something I learned was how to better paint the folds in order to reveal a shape beneath the fabric, to give it form.  I’ll also admit that the subject matter was an excuse to paint as many beautiful, sumptuous fabrics as I possibly could!

This piece, “Castle by the River Arno,” has a bit of a fairytale-like quality to it.  Indeed, that is exactly how I felt when I first saw this scene in person.  I was standing in Florence, Italy, on a bridge by the Ponte Vecchio, over the River Arno.  It was just before sunset, and the sun had cast everything in that magic golden glow before dusk.  The clouds were just lit up in a tremendous pile over the river, and a castle by the river glowed red in the golden light.  I just stood there and drank it in.  And now, although you may not get the full experience, I’d like to share a bit of that with my viewers.

this is cheap 180.00 camcorder ,that has the sharpest noise free(daylight) 720×1080 h.d. which does nature and ocean the hardest to capture with so much detail (leaves ,grass, etc)

I have been though a lot of camera and h.d. camcorder/and returns .

this has the sharpest and rich fullness even on leaves Ive seen.

but again, the cam has to pan slowly and in sunlight,

I can live with that ,if it breaks I just buy another one.

I recently took the Webbie with me to shoot interviews on the fly at a convention I went to. It was so easy to use and the videos in SD mode were good. Audio was surprisingly good too! I would go back to the newsroom each day, connect to the web via usb and upload to tubemogul.

On the HD side the videos I show of my son in the backyard were excellent. All this and it fits in my pocket like a big pack of gum. Oh and the swivel head is a great feature too.

Other plus’s for me were the long battery life and the ability to use the Pro Duo cards. 16GB in mine.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to shoot video on the fly!

I got our ROM invitations back some time ago, and was super-excited. Viv was an angel as usual, and delivered a great product! When we gave it to David B, our marriage counselor who’ll also be doing the prayer of blessing at the ROM he stared at the invitation for a long time, finally pronouncing, “Guys, this is a beautiful invitation! Really, really nice!”

When a man of God says it like that, you know it’s something special! *lol*

The thing is, I couldn’t take proper pictures of it though, because the light cream paper is shimmery, which means it reflects light everytime I do it with flash. I haven’t had a free weekend to take pictures of them during the daylight hours (and I get home from work pretty late, which means dark, which means flash, etc.) So you’ll have to see them here on Viv’s website.

The thing with shimmer paper is pictures will never really do it justice. In reality, the card is a soft creamy shimmery paper backed with a sweet lavender/lilac shimmer card underneath. The colour of the motif and words is a cross between a pale violet and periwinkle blue. Mr. Panda LOVES these invitations; I suspect they’re his favourite of the lot!

They should match our ROM theme also, since I’ll be having yam/lavender roses accented with lilacs and ivory eustomas. I’m so excited about marrying my love amidst such prettiness! Yay!

L’artiste sud-coréenne JeongMee Yoon explore à travers son art les différences de goût d’enfants (et de leurs parents) issus de cultures diverses, de groupes ethniques différents, mais aussi les différences sociales et identitaires attribuées à chaque genre, masculin ou féminin.

The Pink Project - Celine and Her Pink Things

Son travail soulève aussi des questions relatives à la relation entre le genre et la consommation, l’urbanisation et la globalisation de la consommation.

L’idée de ce projet a été inspirée à JeongMee par sa fille de cinq ans; celle-ci aimait tellement la couleur rose qu’elle ne voulait porter que des vêtements de cette couleur, et ne jouer qu’avec des jouets rose. L’artiste a découvert lors de ses voyages que le cas de sa fille n’était pas isolé; au contraire ce phénomène de la petite fille qui aime le rose est largement répandu à travers le monde, et ce quelque soit le groupe ethnique ou l’appartenance culturelle de l’enfant. Peut-être est-ce le résultat de l’influence de publicités qui visent les petites filles et leurs parents; des publicités pour des produits tels que  la très populaire Barbie ou encore Hello Kitty. Les petites filles sont ainsi encouragées consciemment et inconsciemment  à porter la couleur rose dans l’optique de paraître plus féminine. Le rose n’a pas toujours été associé au genre féminin. A une certaine époque, le rose considéré comme un rouge (couleur du pouvoir, de la force, du courage) délavé était aussi associé à la force masculine.

En 1914, The Sunday Sentinel, un journal américain, conseillait les mère de famille “d’utiliser le rose pour les garçons et le bleu pour les filles” si l’on voulait suivre correctement les conventions. Le changement du “rose pour les filles, bleu pour les garçons” s’est institué seulement après la seconde guerre mondiale. Alors que les sociétés modernes entraient dans le très politiquement correct XXe siècle, le concept de l’égalité des genres commença à émerger et résulta en un renversement de la perspective des couleurs associées à chaque genre, ainsi que dans les connections superficielles qui y sont attachées. Aujourd’hui, avec les effets de la publicité sur les préférences des consommateurs, ces coutumes d’association des couleurs sont largement répandus à travers le monde.

Aujourd’hui, les consommateurs sont incités à acheter des objets bleu pour les garçons et ose pour les filles. Ainsi les habits et vêtements pour enfants sont déjà divisés en section rose-filles et bleu-garçons. Les accessoires et les jouets suivent la même tendance.

La différence entre les objets de filles et ceux de garçons divisent et aussi affectent leur façon de penser et leur comportement. Beaucoup de jouets et de livres pour petites filles sont roses, violet, rouge et sont liés à l’habillement, au maquillage, à la cuisine et autres affaires domestiques. Parallèlement, beaucoup de jouets pour petits garçons sont colorés dans des tons de bleu et liés aux robots, dinosaures, à l’industrie, etc.

Alors que les filles grandissent leur goût pour le rose change. Très jeunes, elles peuvent être obsédées par cette couleur, puis à partir du primaire ce goût diminue. Habituellement, leur goût se dirige vers les tons violet (composé de bleu!). Puis plus tard, leur goût va encore évoluer vers les tons rouge. Cependant, bien souvent,l’association originale avec le code des couleurs demeure, et l’on se retrouve à acheter une petite layette rose pour la petite fille d’une amie …

Personnellement, je n’ai jamais vraiment eu aimé le rose, que je considère toujours aujourd’hui comme faisant trop “fifille”…  [no comment, je sais...les préjugés ont la vie dure...]. Mais, de temps en temps, je jette toujours un petit oeil envieux dessus, qui n’a jamais, tout au fond, rêvé d’être une petite princesse? une véritable image d’épinal de petite fille avec tout plein de rubans et de dentelles? (le genre de truc qu’en vrai on ne porterait jamais, mais qui font toujours rêver…)

Si aujourd’hui le pourpre et le rouge ont ma préférence, j’ai compté tout de même 15 choses de couleur rose parmi mes possessions, et chez vous?

Même s’il est un génie incontesté en matière de design, j’ai du mal à comprendre l’engouement soudain pour Verner Panton (peut être un anniversaire ou une célébration dont je ne suis pas au courant). Toujours est-il que les objets dédiés au designer pullulent, et après la chaise miniature Panton en or, c’est une collection complète que propose l’équipe japonaise de Tomorrowland.

Composée d’un tapis, d’un ballon de foot, de tasses et de deux écharpes (en plus des Be@rbrick 100%), j’avoue qu’il faut être un fan inconditionnel de design d’intérieur pour trouver un quelconque intérêt et se ruer dessus. Bon, c’est mon cas, et alors?
