Since Hugh Hefner is currently in the news due to a broken engagement, I thought it might be interesting to have a quick look at his chart.

For someone who’s well known for his relationships, it’s no surprise to see the Ascendant ruler in Hefner’s chart placed in the 7th House of Partnerships. This shows someone who defines themselves – or is defined widely – through their partnerships.

What’s also interesting is that unpredictible and sometimes shocking Uranus is precisely aligned (within a degree) of Hefner’s Descendant – the point that represents the start of the 7th House of Relationships. This shows someone whose relationship life will have a shock factor to it, pushing the boundaries of socially acceptable norms.

What is  a surprise is that as a Balsamic Moon Phase person – typically a phase that highlights the archetype of the hermit – he’s had so much company!

Current cycles include Uranus over his 7th House Mercury, a cycle which typically brings separations in relationship.

His progressed Sun is inching towards his 10th House Pluto, showing a major transformation or power situation in terms of his work and public roles. This peaks into 2012.

Modern Intention Setting Using Old World Wisdom: New Moon Wishing

One of the most potent ways to connect with the power of a New Moon is through creative intention setting, through a process known as New Moon Wishing. Jan Spiller coined this phrase in her book ‘New Moon Astrology’ (2001 Bantam). She suggests making your wishes within 8 hours of the New Moon.

My New Moon Wishing ritual begins with lighting incense and a candle, and taking a moment to reflect on where I am in life today. Then, I imagine where I’d love to be. Usually, I focus my dreams on areas of life linked to both the sign energy of the New Moon and the house area of my birth chart the current New Moon is energising.

I then pull out my special New Moon Wishing book. I’ve been recording my New Moon wishes, as sporadically as I’ve done them, since 2002. This particular New Moon wishing book begins under the New Moon in Cancer in July 2002. I haven’t written every New Moon wish I’ve made since then in this book but I have recorded the vast majority of them.

In this book, I write down my wishes around the month’s current themes. I ensure I word them carefully, as Jan suggests, wishing for things to happen easily, and focus my wishes on things based around myself (yes, New Moon Wishes are a perfect time to be healthily selfish!) – knowing that unless it’s in another person’s highest good, it’s impossible to ask for something on behalf of another. Using therapeutic ‘I’ statements – usually something like ‘I’d like to easily find myself……’ I craft out the changes I’d like in both the relevant sign and houses areas.

Sometimes I write out the full allocation of wishes Jan suggests (10) – and other months, like this one, there are just three or four key wishes around current areas of focus. After writing these out, I then say them out loud, to firmly imprint the ideas in my being.

I seem to recall once reading something about how speaking what one has written helps the concept travel across both sides of the brain, thus imprinting it more deeply on one’s psyche. Either way, it’s an excellent editing technique and helps me ensure I’ve worded things just so – and haven’t forgotten anything currently important. Then, I take a moment to envisage my life with these things happening, gone or going on, whatever the wish may be.

Super Moon
This Saturday there is Full Moon in the precise sign of Virgo. Every year, sometimes between February 20 – March 20 (whilst the Sun is in Pisces), there is a Full Moon in Virgo. What’s unique about this Full Moon is that it coincides – to within an hour – with the Moon’s perigee.

The Moon’s perigee is the closest pass the Moon makes to the Earth in its current cycle. Every month the Moon has an apogee (its furthest pass from the Earth) and a perigee. It just happens that this time around, the perigee and Full Moon align.

At perigee, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. There is a range of distances the Moon can move through to be considered perigee, and this month’s perigee happens to be one of the closer ones. So the Moon’s perigee this month (which occurs a mere hour after the Full Moon itself) is one of the closest close passes. Still with me?

At the Full Moon, the Sun, Earth and Moon create a particular alignment, one in which the Moon’s tug on water bodies and sources on the Earth reaches a peak. This month, as the Full Moon grows, she’ll actually be closer than usual to the Earth, thus creating a MUCH stronger pull than usual on the waters of the planet.

This creates a celestial picture under which extreme tides are likely, as are extremes of emotion. Since every Full Moon brings current events to a point of climax, this weekend’s peak is likely to be especially intense. The Full Moon also represents a time of insight and clarity, which you can expect to be particular brilliant and clear this weekend.

For those curiously minded readers, the last time there was a Full Moon aligned with the Moons perigee, it was 1992 – January 19 to be exact. Happy New Year!
The new calendar year starts with a bang, with a New Moon Solar Eclipse worldwide on January 4. As every New Moon, eclipse or otherwise, is a perfect time for intention setting and wish making, this bodes well if you’re looking to banish bad habits and implement healthy ones in 2011.

It’s only in recent times the New Year has aligned with January 1 (Great Britain celebrated New Year’s eve on March 25 (close to the equinox) until 1753), and while some might say the March equinox, when the Sun crosses into Aries, or the New Moon in Aries, are more energetically aligned triggers for new beginnings, January 1 represents an important milestone in the modern mindset.

Taking time to take stock of where you’ve travelled over any given time period is always useful, and with a potent eclipse this week you’ll find reflecting on and releasing the past is an excellent way to catapult yourself into the future.

Virgo loves to schedule, so this Moon vibe is great for getting organised. The third quarter Moon represents one of the critical turns in the Moon’s phases, adding energy and a desire to act on what’s true for you.

One of the week’s stand out aspects, a square between Mars and Jupiter, has begun. Mars brings confidence, and in Sagittarius, a desire for adventure and new experiences. Jupiter offers the chance to follow your dreams and find opportunities by getting out of your comfort zone. Even though the square link between Mars and Jupiter has some friction, there is a rulership connection between Mars and Jupiter which creates greater potential for these two planets to work together. WellBeing Astrology Guide 2011

Right now both the lights, the Sun and Moon, are in Venus ruled signs. The Sun is in Libra, and air sign, while the Moon continues through Taurus, an earth sign. On the one hand, the chance now exists to shine a light, mentally and physically, onto Venus ruled areas – love, beauty, art and togetherness. On the other hand, with Venus in probing Scorpio, it’s also time to get to the bottom of any mysteries or suspicions in these areas too.

Venus starts her next retrograde early in October, reflecting themes from her last retrograde in Scorpio in 2002. If you’re perplexed about some of the current love or beauty mysteries in your life, take time to reflect in this time circa 8 years ago. In other astro news today, Mercury clears the shadow of his recent retrograde giving a 100% cosmic all clear for planning, organising and attending to details. Mercury remains in one of his favourite signs, Virgo, for a few more days and he is exceptionally organised and capable there – make the most of it!

Banish bad habits and adopt healthy new ones – you’re ready to completely overhaul your day-to-day routines. Solo training appeals as you’ll want to maintain steady intensity. You’re focussed and might be obsessive about diet September/October, but the results are worth it.

Taurus Life is in review through October so plan to maintain existing beauty and health routines rather than start new ones then. Consistency is key and sticking to regular hair/cosmetic appointments keeps your spirits up. Relationships may stall – use any time apart to reassess your long term desires. Changes to romantic/dating rituals helps deepen close connections, especially around September 12.

 Gemini Crossed wires could cause mental stress until September 11. If possible, avoid making major changes until after then, when you’ve got clarity and organisational flair.  Cancer September 8’s New Moon helps you adopt a ‘back to basics’ eating plan. Think locally grown and minimal processing. Mars helps you have fun while you get fit from September 15 – October 28. Water sports appeal more than ever, so plan to swim or soak more than usual. Saunas are an ideal way to unwind. October 7 is perfect for starting afresh at home or with family.

Leo You’re a homebody this season and will prefer to primp and preen in private. Opt for at home beauty treatments or try out a DVD based workout. Support from family is invaluable, as is having a home space in which you feel truly comfortable. Venus helps you rethink living arrangements in October so if things aren’t quite right, set about making improvements through November.

Virgo The Sun gives you confidence and charm until September 24. You’re also in the spotlight then so speak up about career or relationship dreams. Heart health is highlighted making it important to stick to a low fat diet. Regular cardio keeps the blood pumping and gives you that healthy glow. Money and financial goals are a priority through October.

Libra Budget beauty and health options appeal this season as Venus and Mars both trigger your money zone. Expenses are unpredictable so explore DIY beauty treatments and enjoy the great outdoors for exercise. You’ll change your mind a lot through October – about life and love, so give yourself lots of time if making life changing decisions. Saturn in your sign shows you’ll be working hard on your goals.

Scorpio Mars in your sign September 15 – October 28 means you have the potential to be at your best. Others follow your lead as you instinctively take the initiative. Be decisive and only put your time into things you’re truly passionate about on September 18 – you hold the power then. Adventures beckon in November when you’ll have the confidence to experiment. Endurance sports and exotic beauty treatments are your weakness. 

Sagittarius From mid September – late October energy levels are lower. Meditation, relaxation and time out are more important than pushing ahead. Take a break, cut back your work hours or scale back social commitments. Energy planet Mars enters your sign October 29 and you’ll be full of enthusiasm through November. Give yourself a good rest before then so you can make the most of new offers that arise as the year winds down.

Capricorn Social plans and events with friends keep you busy through September and October so you’ll need to be especially well organised to stay on top of health and beauty schedules. Book time for you – and your body – in advance, and when eating out, make healthy (think starters for mains) choices. Mars triggers your resting zone from October 29 and you’ll need to cut back your schedule to give yourself ample down time through November.

Aquarius Venus and Mars to conspire to help you recreate a new professional image. Career changes are needed in October, so if things aren’t going where you want work wise then, consider alternatives. Under the influence of Uranus you’re quite mellow about routines and being healthy – when the mood strikes you, make the most of it. The rest of the time, aim to eat plenty of fresh fruit.

Pisces You’re restless through September and October and will need lots of day trips to break routine and provide some excitement. Get outdoors as much as you can – the natural world helps reinspire you. You start a new work cycle under Mars on October 29 – be sure your health and beauty routines are set before then as you’ll be too busy to make changes through November.

Here’s something I wrote earlier this month re September’s standout astro signature – the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction:
“Jupiter and Uranus together represent an opportunity to electrify your life. If you’re bored, you won’t be by the end of the month. Dare yourself to take chances you normally wouldn’t. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much progress you can make about a current life issue by thinking outside the square.”

Over the next 24 hours, the Sun aspects the Jupiter/Uranus alignment, helping spotlight the potential for dramatic and unprecedented change. If you’re unsure where you should shake things up, this alignment – and the next day or so – will bring lots of triggers, some obvious, some subtle, about where and how you can breakthrough old patterns and create more freedom. The opposition aspect created by the Sun is known to carry some tension, so you may not be able to entirely keep the peace through this process. New forms of individuality are key now and embracing such may mean stepping outside established roles or habits.

You can stimulate your own openness to all things new and different by consciously making small changes to your own routines. Carry your bag on a different shoulder or tie your hair to the alternate side. Try a different route to or from work or hold the phone to a different ear. By beginning to create change you help shift your energy so that offered changes are easier to welcome.
