Sarah Palin announced Thursday night that she ended a Hawaii vacation early because of the ruckus raised after she blacked out “McCain” on her sun visor in an effort to elude paparazzi.

After the former Alaska governor was photographed on the beach earlier this week, TMZ.com portrayed the visor marking as a slight of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), her running mate last year.

Palin, in the midst of a book tour for her million-selling “Going Rogue,” released this statement:

“In an attempt to ‘go incognito,’ I Sharpied the logo out on my sun visor so photographers would be less likely to recognize me and bother my kids or other vacationers.

“I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way. I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago.

“Todd and I have since cut our vacation short because the incognito attempts didn’t work and fellow vacationers were bothered for the two days we spent in the sun. So much for trying to go incognito.”

Vilken märklig idé! tyckte jag först. Och det tycker jag fortfarande. Låta översätta kända svenska visor till portugisiska och framföra dem som om de hörde till de brasilianska samba- och bossatraditionerna.

Varför? Nej, jag får inget svar när jag lyssnar heller, om det inte räcker med att sångerskan Miriam Aïda och hennes akustiska musiker gör det så bra. Och så naturligt, att om jag inte känt igen melodierna så kunde jag nästan ha trott att de var brasilianska sånger.

Här finns visor och viskompositörer, som ibland står lite närmare och ibland långt ifrån Sydamerika. Till de förstnämnda hör Ulf Peder Olrog, även om ”Violen från Flen” väl knappast är en av hans mest latin-influerade, och Povel Ramel, även om ”Den sista jäntan” inte heller är en av hans mest västindiska låtar. Till de senare hör Nils Ferlin-dikten ”En valsmelodi” (med musik av Lillebror Söderlundh), Barbro Hörbergs ”Med ögon känsliga för grönt” och den traditionella svenska folkvisan ”Kristallen den fina”.

Fast med portugisiska texter alltså (för översättningarna svarar främst den brasiliansk-svenske poeten Guilem Rodrigues da Silva).

Allt fungerar lika bra, vilket dels beror på Miriam Aïdas otroliga förmåga att både bevara melodier och lägga till mjuka sammetsrytmer, dels på Mats Andersson akustiska gitarrer (bl a en 7-strängad ”sambagitarr”) och Ola Bothzéns olika rytminstrument. Ackompanjemanget – eller snarare sampspelet med sången – bygger en musikalisk bro mellan Sverige och Brasilien. Några gästmusiker medverkar också, bl a trumpetaren Håkan Hardenberger.

Så händer något!

Först som en aning, när Miriam sjunger en av verserna till ”När lyckan mötte kärleken” (också Ferlin) på svenska, och sen som en poängtering och ett konstaterade, när hon avslutar albumet med en långsam och vacker – ja, innerlig – tolkning av ”Jag har bott vid en landsväg” (en himmasång som hämtats från Edvard Persson), också den på svenska… ja, skånska.

Då blir det ju… ännu bättre! Miriam, får man beställa en hel skiva med sång på svenska / skånska till nästa gång?

Believe it or not, NHL training camps open this weekend and that means press junkets galore. Not as fun as doing 180 with Rachel Nichols riding shotgun, but it was only Wednesday. Alexander Ovechkin stopped traffic yesterday so he could drive a Zamboni down Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue and then school me in some video game hockey. Please enter your recipient’s email address. While he fell short of his career-high 65 goals , Ovechkin still had a pretty special ‘08-09 season. Ovechkin is the second-youngest player and first Russian player to win multiple Hart Trophies. Ovechkin, who also won the Maurice Richard Trophy for the second year in a row for leading the league in goals , is the first player since Dominik Hasek in 1997-98 to win the Hart Trophy in consecutive seasons and the first non-goalie to do so since Wayne Gretzky won eight in a row from 1980-87.

The World Series begins tonight. The Philadelphia Phillies, hunting for their second-straight World Series championship, visit the New York Yankees at 8 p.m. on Fox.

Ein Terminal ist doch etwas schönes!

Man kommt auf jeden Fall in den Rausch der “schwarz-grünen” Vergangenheit.

Unter OS X sind diese Zeiten aber auch noch nicht ganz vorbei. Man hat die Möglichkeit von Haus aus schon viel zu personalisieren und zu ändern.

Transparenz, Farben, Schrift…

Reicht mir aber nicht!

Es gibt ein paar nette Tricks um sein Terminal zu individualisieren.

Nummer 1: Erstellen einer motd

Das Erstellen einer motd ( message of the day ) ermöglicht einem, individuell begrüßt zu werden, wenn man das Terminal öffnet. Zum Beispiel mit einem ASCII – Grafik oder Schriftzug.

Eigentlich eine ganz einfache Geschichte.

Im Terminal den Befehl : sudo pico /etc/motd

ausführen und den gewünschten Text einsetzte/hineinschreiben. Wer eine ASCII Grafik oder Schriftzug haben möchte, kann mit ASCII Art geholfen werden. Einzig die Benutzung von pico (Editor) könnte dem ein oder anderen Probleme bereiten. Um zu Speichern bzw. pico zu Beenden einfach <ctrl + x> drücken und den Anweisungen folgen.

VISOR

So jetzt sieht das schon mal nicht schlecht aus! Aber was mich nach wie vor etwas stört …gerade wenn man in einem Editor arbeitet und alle Nase lang auf die Console zurück greifen muss… der Fensterwechsel.

Expose biete eine gute Lösung um zwischen Fenstern hin und her zu wechseln, aber erfordert wieder die Nutzung einer Maus.

Cool wäre es doch,

wenn das Terminal von der Apfel Menüleiste herunter slidet, über die komplette Bildschirmbreite und auf Knopfdruck, versteht sich.

Hier hilft ein kleines Toll mit dem Namen Simbl.

Moto : Patch the application myself

Das Tool ermöglicht das einbinden gewisser Bundles um Applikationen zu modifizieren. Genau das machen wir jetzt mit dem Teminal.

Einfach SIMBL hier herunterladen und installieren. (Es gibt den Download für Verschiedene OS X Versionen also die richtige herunterladen)

Nun fehlt nur noch das entsprechende Bundle, das wir für das Terminal verwenden wollen…

Dazu einfach Visor herunterladen und die Datei in den Ordner

kopieren.

So einfach nur noch das Terminal neustarten und bewundern.

Das Terminal kann jetzt immer über die Tastenkombination  ctrl + < aufgerufen werden und slidet dann schön von dem Apfel Menü nach unten.

Nun hat man die Möglichkeit die Einstellungen bezüglich Visor einfach in den Einstellungen des Terminals zu ändern und farblich so anzupassen wie man es gerne hätte. Die Transparenz des Terminals kann man, durch das Wählen einer Farbe zu ändern.

Probiert es aus! Ihr könnt wenn es euch nicht gefällt jederzeit wieder löschen!

The other day I was browsing through the New Era website just to look at the latest designs of hats. I’m not one to wear one, but I like the design concept of some of the hats on sale. Anyway, I came across the New Era Belts that had just been stocked. As I personally need a new belt (my King Apparel one is effed), I took an interest in them. As I got an email through today about them from New Era, it reminded me of them and I thought I’d share it with the Grime Garms followers.

There are 3 different styles to the belts. The first one up is the ‘Tipped Belt’. The tipped belt features the infamous New Era logo, commonly seen on the left hand side of a New Era hat. A well recognised logo within today’s society. This belt comes in black with 3 different coloured buckles, black/red, black/white and black/gold. The white leather belt comes with one black & white buckle.

Next up is the ‘Originators Belt’. This is very similar to the tipped belt. But unlike the tipped belt, there is writing placed all over the leather. From the small pictures, you can barely make out what it is saying. The slogan running across the belt is ‘Originators of the Fitted’ though. Referring to that New Era created the fitted cap originally. This like the tipped belt also comes in 4 different colours. Three black leather belts, one in white. The first black belt has black/white and logo/text. The next being a gold on black affair. The same as the white, but the gold replacing. The last black belt consisting of a black/dark grey style. With the belt being black, and the text upon the belt being a darker shade of grey.  Finally is the white version of the belt. A black on white version of this belt. The text being black, and the classic black & white New Era logo as the belt buckle.

Last, but not least, is the ‘Fitted Visor Sticker Belt’. These belt buckles containing another infamous figure from New Era, the visor sticker. This golden coloured sticker can be found on all New Era caps. The sticker normally states the size of the hat (in inches), but for the belt, this is not the case. Just a simple buckle with the 59Fifty text and New Era logo. This design like the previous two also has 4 designs. This section also has three black belts and one white. The classic gold sticker with black features. The same logo again, but the black being replaced with grey, and the gold being exchanged to black. The third version on the black belt being red and grey. A red background, with grey features for this one. This section also has three black belts and one white. This time the black being faded down to a grey, and the gold being replaced with a white section.

All three of these belts can be found here at the New Era website. The price being £24.99 for all three designs.

The MLB playoffs officially got underway last night, as three matchups in the American League and National League divisional series threw their first pitches.

The action continues today.

There are three games on the slate, starting with Colorado’s game-two visit to Philadelphia today at 1:37 p.m. Central.

Later on today, the L.A. Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals at 5:07 p.m. and the Red Sox open their series at the Los Angeles Angels at 8:37 p.m.

All games will be broadcast on TBS.

This brings us to our Twitter trivia question. While their opponents are the defending World Series champs, the Rockies had their own magical playoff run a year earlier. Colorado won 21 of 22 games on its way to its first ever World Series appearance.

It wasn’t meant to be, though, and the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007.

La realidad no es lo que tocas, lo que miras, lo que hueles o escuchas… Es algo que está más allá de los sentidos, y aquello que experimentas es una construcción realizada por el cerebro a través de esos sentidos, y sus ineludibles limitaciones. Toda pretensión de objetividad naufraga en el mar de las sensaciones, por más que pretendamos darle a cada día un hilo argumental que dote de razón de ser a lo que se va viviendo. Sólo hay interpretaciones, y ni siquiera se puede decir que las haya acertadas o erróneas. El mundo es el mundo, está ahí, y tú estás franqueado por la barrera de tu propia piel.

Así las cosas, la mirada particular asume una importancia primordial, porque es la llave de la interpretación de ese mundo ajeno. Y cada persona posee una. No obstante, hay muy pocas que puedan trasladar a los demás lo que ven, y más aún, lo que sienten cuando están mirando. Si, ya, además, logran hacer compartir al otro ese mar interior, sin duda estamos ante un extraño acontecimiento: la ruptura del aislamiento.

Uno puede ver el mundo a través de los ojos de Joaquín, y sigue sin ser propiamente el mundo, sino una versión donde las noticias y los pequeños sucesos cobran textura. Son las “noticias que duermen en la vida”, esperando a que una voz venga y las despierte, y las muestre a los demás con la emoción de haber encontrado algún tipo de verdad universal que merece difusión urgente. Esta es la mirada sobre los objetos que “crecen sin nosotros”, y que de este modo cobran una voluntad sobre el que lee y escucha, merced de su representación en el poema.

Así, posiblemente, las preguntas sobre lo que es o no es, o sobre lo que uno no entiende, “duelan menos o no acechen”, aunque siguen estando presentes como leña que alimenta el fuego de cada texto. Escribir para responder, o para renunciar meditadamente a tener una respuesta… poco importa. Porque al lector, ese egoísta silencioso, no le preocupa si el poeta sufre o se libera, sino aquellos pasajes a los que puede aferrarse y hacer suyos… Es trágico, pero aún así el poeta no renuncia a su trabajo, a la obligación que ha contraído con sus manos y sus ojos. Por eso, dice que “El pecado consiste no en mirar, sino en no transitar lo que se mira”. Y ahí está la clave de la honestidad de su propuesta poética.

Desde hace un tiempo ya que estoy intentanto, dentro de lo posible, no usar Impress de Openoffice. La compatibilidad con los .ppt y los .pptx deja mucho que desear, y en más de una oportunidad me he encontrado con la desagradable sorpresa de que todos los cuadros y textos se mueven.

Esto me hizo tomar una decisión. Cada vez que tuviera que ver una presentación, iba a ser en pdf. Y hasta el momento he cumplido. Y resulta que leí en Seamos realistas… (el nombre es muy largo ) esta aplicación llamada keyjnote, que agrega efectos de transición entre diapositivas y otras cosas más. Y me dije “Ok, probémoslo”:

La instalación es sencilla. Sólo abra una terminal y escribe sudo apt-get install keyjnote. A partir de este momento aparecerá en tu menú cada vez que selecciones con el botón derecho un pdf.

¿Quieres ver cómo se ve?

Ahora les presento una lista de comandos útiles para moverse dentro de keyjnote

• Click con mouse; dirección derecha: siguiente diapo
• Click con mouse y arrastrar: iluminar un área de la diapositiva y oscurecer el resto
• Click con el botón derecho sobre un área iluminada la hace desaparecer
• Tecla Enter: convierto al mouse en un puntero luminoso (que se adapta con la rueda)
• Click central del mouse, Ctrl + Tab o Shift + Tab: mostrar todas las diapositivas
• Tecla: Hacer Zoom. Con el Zoom activado, haz click con el botón derecho del mouse y déjalo pulsado para moverte por la diapositiva.
• Tecla Esc: salir de la presentación

Bueno, espero que les haya gustado. Quizás lo único que lamento es que este programa no se haya actualizado en mucho tiempo…
