It’s time to pay some homage to the wonder that is my nephew! I got to hold him in August when he was an itty bitty newborn and the time is coming soon (1 month) when I’ll get to take the tot in my arms again.

Anyway, here’s a little tribute to: “the baby, the nephew, the pooer.”

My first Thanksgiving on my own: Wow! Well it had it’s ups and downs. The ups: spending time with friends, eating good food, and playing guesstures! The downs: working.

My Thanksgiving Eve slumber party did not end up happening. Unfortunately but fortunately, Kristen booked a flight home for Thanksgiving and had to spend the evening packing and planning so we didn’t end up doing the sleepover. Last night I just watched some DVR’d shows including So You Think You Can Dance (love that one!) and baked some brownies for my Thanksgiving contribution. They were SOOO hard not to eat (esp when they were warm from the oven) but I couldn’t walk in with an empty spot in the brownie dish! I managed to practice discipline and resisted my urges.   

On Turkey Day, I spent my morning relaxing a bit and skyping with my parents back in ole Flat Top. Then I headed in to work Jay Leno at 12:30pm. It was quite a show today. We had an all military audience in the studio and what a whirlwind it was to seat them all. They were all VERY polite (and many were VERY good-looking, heh heh) but, there wasn’t a lot of information for us as far as what to expect. I was OIC (Ofifcer In Charge) so I was kinda stressed out, as you can imagine. I did the best I could though, and I think it turned out pretty well. After the show, we had all the branches (Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, and Air Force) come in and take pictures with Jay. That was pretty neat. Then, the NBC Commissary served them all Thanksgiving dinner! It was really cool.

With all the post-show activities, I ended up working later than scheduled and arrived to my Thanksgiving feast with my friends later than expected. It worked out okay though. I made a plate of leftovers and feasted like it was business-as-usual. Haha. Yum!

We all drank lots of wine, watched football, and chatted. And when we were rested enough, we all played a game of Guesstures. What a hoot!! We played boys v. girls and, well obvi, the girls won! It was really a great time. Shout out to Ross, Natalie, and Jermell for hosting the gathering. They did an awesome job! We had turkey AND ham- delish! Danielle and Jayme brought lots of sides including many things I’d never had with Thanksgiving (or at all) and really enjoyed (examples: baked brie with some sort of glaze, cheddar brocoli bake, corn bread with melted cheese on top, candied yams). It was QUITE yummy!

Not many people had room left to eat my brownies (understandbly so) and we didn’t even get into the bottle of wine I brought, but hopefully they’ll enjoy it all leftover. It’s the thought that counts, right?

So I’ve been busy getting some writing done but not for the novel. Unfortunately I decided to put the novel on hold for now as I’ve had some other writing opportunities present themselves. Immediate paying writing opportunities with a deadline next month. So I’ve flipped the script a bit. I’m still working to churn out 50k words (which is the spirit of the competition) but it’ll be for my writing endeavors.

In other news, I just signed a contract and one of my stories will be featured in an anthology tentatively scheduled to be released next Spring.

More details to follow as they develop.

I’ve been busy doing administrative writing stuff with submissions, contracts and whatnot. Between that and the day job I’m staying busy. Handling my business, but busy just the same.

I’ve also decided that in December I’m taking a much needed break. I’m getting burned out. I’m going to do nothing but watch DVDs, play video games, blog, and I’ll write when I feel inspired. Come January, it’s a whole new ball-game but for now I need a much-needed break.
