Sinds mijn laatste zwangerschapsverlof heb ik volle begrip voor deze verslaving. Met veel te veel tijd om handen kon ik mij gedurende 5 maanden te buiten gaan aan de verlokkingen in de virtuele wereld. Ik ontdekte de handigheid van de gevestigde virtuele orde zoals Bol.com en Marktplaats.nl, en raakte verdwaald in het enorme aanbod van meer en minder professionele online (outlet!) shops. Dus heb ik het ontwerp voor een eigengemaakt prikbord, vele muursticker versies, stapels boeken om me door heen te worstelen, en ben ik in het bezit van de complete documentatie van De Wijnwereld om mij klaar te stomen voor het beroep van vinoloog. De meest kostbare aankoop was een Storksak, je weet wel, die zwaar overprice-de verzorgingstas waar Angela Jolie standaard mee wordt gespot.

Het leuke van online shoppen is dat je vervolgens ook een pakje toegestuurd krijgt. Ik ben dol op pakjes; het voelt vreselijk feestelijk, alsof je een cadeautje krijgt. Dat dit cadeau je ook nog de nodige euro’s (inclusief porto kosten) heeft gekost, is op dat moment niet (meer) relevant.

Het was dus maar goed dat ik na die vijf maanden weer aan het werk moest. Maar mocht jij ook willen, hieronder een selectie van de adressen die ik heb gevonden.

O modelo…

Gibson Les Paul é um dos mais conhecidos designs de guitarra elétrica de corpo sólido. Foi desenvolvido no começo dos anos 50 e se tornou um dos mais duradouros e populares modelos de instrumentos no mundo. Seu design foi deixado praticamente intocado por quase 50 anos.

História

O modelo Les Paul representa uma parceria entre a empresa de guitarras Gibson, sob a presidência de Ted McCarty, e o astro pop, inventor de eletrônica e guitarrista de jazz Les Paul.

Les Paul apresentou um protótipo a diretoria da Gibson e, para sua decepção, a guitarra não agradou e foi deixada de lado pois o foco naquela época era para guitarras semi-acusticas da própria Gibson. Só que em 1950 a Fender lançou o modelo Telecaster (inicialmente se chamava Broadcaster) e como se tornou logo um sucesso de vendas, a Gibson então resolveu investir na Les Paul, que acabou se tornando um ícone.

Les Paul, guitarrista e inventor que mudou a história da música com a guitarra elétrica e a gravação multipista e que teve uma série de sucessos, muitos deles com a cantora Mary Ford, morreu nesta quinta-feira aos 94 anos.

De acordo com a empresa de guitarras Gibson, Paul morreu de complicações causadas por uma pneumonia no hospital White Plains, em Nova York, ao lado de familiares e amigos.

O músico foi hospitalizado em fevereiro de 2006 quando soube que havia sido premiado com dois Grammy pelo disco lançado após seu aniversário de 90 anos, “Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played”.

“Me sinto como um edifício condenado com um mastro de bandeira novo”, brincou Les Paul na época.

Como inventor, Paul ajudou a popularizar o rock’n’roll e a gravação multipista, que permite que artistas gravem diferentes instrumentos separadamente, cantem as harmonias com as gravações e depois equalizem e misturem as diferentes gravações em uma faixa final.

Com Ford, sua mulher entre 1949 e 1962, ele ganhou 36 discos de ouro e colocou 11 sucessos no primeiro lugar das paradas, entre eles “Vaya Con Dios,” “How High the Moon,” “Nola” e “Lover”. Muitas das canções usavam técnicas de gravação que Paul ajudou a desenvolver, como o “overdub”.

“Eu poderia pegar minha Mary e fazer três, seis, nove, 12, quantas vozes eu quisesse”, lembrou o músico. “Essa é uma bela possibilidade”. A técnica do “overdub” foi muito utilizada por artistas posteriores, como os Carpenters.

A guitarra elétrica ganhou popularidade a partir de meados da década de 40, e então explodiu com o surgimento do rock nos anos 50.

“De repente, perceberam que força era uma parte importante da música”, disse Paul. “Poder se expressar além dos limites normais de um instrumento sem amplificação era inacreditável. Hoje um garoto não imaginaria cantar uma música em um palco sem um microfone e sistema de som.”

Les Paul fez experimentos com a amplificação de violões por anos antes de aparecer em 1941 com o instrumento que chamou de “The Log”.

“Fui em um clube e toquei. Claro que todo mundo me achou maluco.” Tempos depois o instrumento foi aperfeiçoado até ter o desenho mais próximo de um violão.

Em 1952, a empresa Gibson começou a produzir a guitarra Les Paul.

Pete Townshend, Steve Howe, do Yes, Al DiMeola e Jimmy Page são alguns dos músicos que fizeram da Les Paul sua marca registrada.

Com o passar dos anos, as séries Les Paul se tornaram uma das mais populares entre os músicos. Em 2005, um modelo de 1955 foi leiloado por US$ 45.600.

Artopolis was quite the experience. Sometimes I start to wonder what it takes for art to be considered “art”. Despite the odd pieces here and there, I discovered examples of both the absurdly bizarre (yes, in a good way!) and the insanely creative. The goal was to display pieces of art that are both experimental and “push boundaries” and I would say the show organizers succeeded!

The Antiques Show was really the gem of the event… Prices were not cheap but the huge array of items on display was stunning! My favorites were a 3.86 carat emerald cut diamond ring at the Markov stand, pencil drawings and original works by Gustav Klimt and of course the great selection of vintage posters.

If you missed the show this year, it should be a must-see for 2010.

This post is a mix of freebies, dollarbies, and great deals & steals, based on the designs of xANGELx Violet, designer and owner of VITAGE.  Just opened her store on January 26th,  she offers flirty outfits as well as casual clothes, dresses, boots, hair … a bit of this, a bit of that … all pieces are well done, and  prices are very affordable!

Shown above is a dollarbie, “Asia Touch” dress. Worn  along with this sexy little number are “Black Leather Thigh High Boots by Evangeline Eames” (a stunning dollarbie already blogged around the grid, get it @ Vinyl Cafe).

Next two dollarbies: an amazing “full body henna tattoo 01″ … and I´m not a fan of tattoos but this one is floral and I like it a  lot.  “Diamond Sexy” bra and panties are an  eyecatcher … beyond any question

Now on to the non free stuff by VITAGE.  First we have a cute outfit with a slight gothic touch -  “Bloody Marry”. What I like most are the  details on the top … really great! And the tiny, transparent skirt   comes with a resizer script, that´s another plus!  –   You get your “Bloody Marry”  for only 60 Linden, great deal … cheers!

UPDATE:  Sorry, there was a little “Sl-oops-ie” … “Bloody Marry” has been delivered to me without a top hat. But it´s part of the outfit, and it´s cuuute, look!

“Just Casual” consists of  jeans and a long sweater showing a nice neckline. 35 Linden isn´t too much for those versatile pieces, I think And the cute “Cowboy Girl” hairstyle is a new release, comes in black, brown, blonde and red, again with resizer script.  The complete pack is 75 Linden but you can buy only one color for 25 Linden, too.

The pretty shoes are “Kadies” by DILLY DOLLS (you can choose between 10 different textures/colors and change it via menue). Unfortunately, the sale is over (I´m a slow blogger!) but “Kadies” are worth their price of 175 Linden

L’inflazione corre, fare la spesa costa sempre di più, e così, c’è chi ricorre ai prestiti e chi sceglie la strada degli acquisti di seconda mano, che stanno vivendo un vero proprio boom. Dall’abbigliamento ai libri, ai cd e dvd, dagli accessori ai mobili, dai casalinghi agli elettrodomestici, dagli articoli sportivi a pc e telefonini, il mercato di seconda mano è sempre più gettonato da chi cerca di risparmiare anche meno della metà rispetto al nuovo. E di fronte a tanta richiesta sono aumentati negozi, mercatini  e grandi magazzini dell’usato con affiliati in franchising in tutta Italia.

Le cifre del successo. Secondo un indagine presentata alla camera di commercio di Milano, il mercato dell’usato è cresciuto in Italia del 34% negli ultimi quattro anni. E oggi sono quasi 3.500 gli esercizi commerciali che, nei vari settori, trattano articoli di seconda mano. Leader tra le regioni è la Lomabardia, con oltre 450 negozi seguita dalla Toscana (447) e Lazio (421), mentre tra le province troviamo in testa Roma (9,9%) del totale nazionale, davanti a Milano (7,1%) e a Napoli (6,2%).

Che cosa si compra di più. il settore merceologico che va per la maggiore è quello del mobile antico e usato (58,1% del totale, circa 2mila negozi) che è anche quello che ha registrato l’aumento più alto raddoppiando quasi dal 2004 a oggi.A ruota troviamo gli oggetti per la casa e i vestiti usati e non solo il vitage che spesso a prezzi da amatori e può costare più del nuovo. Ma in questi anni sono cresciuti moltissimo anche gli acquisti sportivi, dagli sci alle biciclette, abiti e articoli per l’infanzia. E c’è anche chi compra per qualche decina di euro vecchi computer, lavatrici, o materassi.

Funziona anche se vendi. Al mercatino degli articoli di seconda mano (formula che spopola anche su internet, basti pensare all’asta di ebay), non solo risparmia chi acquista (dal 30 al 50 fino al 70%), ma anche chi vende. Che può portare i suoi “pezzi” a grandi catene di articoli sportivi che organizzano ogni stagione il mercato dell’usato piuttosto che metterli in vendita su internet o sui giornali di annunci economici e, infine, ricorrere alla sempre più diffusa formula del cosidetto “conto vendita”. Molto utilizzata per abbigliamento e articoli per l’infanzia, ed estesa oggi a tanti settori come l’arredamento e gli elettrodomestici, il conto vendita prevede che il venditore affidi i suoi capi al negozziante che li metterà in vetrina. Quando li rivende, dà una percentuale (di solito la metà) a chi glieli ha portati.Insomma, una forma riveduta del baratto!

Come evitare trappole. L’importante, avvertono le associazioni dei consumatori, è tenere gli occhi aperti, valutare davvero il prezzo rispetto al nuovo, calcolando anche (pensiamo agli elettrodomestici o a un pc) quanto possano durare, e seguire alcune semplici regole.

Conservare lo scontrino quando viene rilasciato perchè spesso, trattandosi di una intermediazione tra privati, i centri di seconda mano non sono tenuti a emettere riceuta fiscale ma solo quella della provvigione per il venditore.

Controllare attentamenti i prodotti in vendita per rendersi conto dello stato d’uso. Per l’abbigliamento (dove si trovano in occasione anche capi griffati), per esempio, è importate che ci sia l’etichetta di composizione e meglio anche di manutenzione mentre nel caso di mobili, articoli per la casa ed elettrodomestici, chiedi la scheda tecnica che attesta quando sono stati fabbricati e in quali condizioni vengono venduti. Ricordati che anche per i negozi dell’usato vale la norma che ciò che si acquista deve essere conforme  al contratto di vendita, mentre è più difficile avere una garanzia anche se alcuni centri offrono alcuni giorni di prova con la possibilità di restituzione di quanto acquistato se scopriamo che ci sono difetti non rilevati dal negozio.

Quando si utlizza il sistema del conto vendita bisogna stare attenti, specialmente in caso di oggetti preziosi, gioielli, quadri, mobili d’antiquariato, che il prezzo di vendita sia in linea con il mercato e non invece artificialmente “ribassato” per favorire l’acquirente che magari è un commerciante nel settore.

Dove comprare. Con quasi 4mila negozi e magazzini presenti in Italia, indicarli sarebbe impossibile. Un consiglio è quello di visitare su internet i siti delle principali catene di franchising dell’usato con tutti gli acquisti e modlità di vendita. Tra questi ci sono www.mercatinousato.it (circa 170 affiliati in tutta Italia e ben 25milioni di articoli venduti), www.mercatopoli.it (che offre anche come servizio la visita a casa per valutare il tuo usato e campagne come il ritiro degli abiti della passata stagione) e www.opportunityshop.it

Suzannah has become interested in the American Girl dolls, especially since we saw the Kit Kittredge movie.  And, because she is Suzannah, wearer of dresses, she wants to wear the calico and feedsack dresses of the depression era.  Can love for certain kinds of fabric be genetic?  I remember long talks with M. about what colors of fabric we liked.  We liked very similar things when we’d go to antique shops.  We liked shabby stuff before it was chic to like shabby stuff.  We liked orange and robin’s egg blue.  So, after the movie, when Suzannah mentioned wanting about ‘100 dresses like Kit and her friends’ I had a real sense of continutity between us three generations of girls.  It’s all come together over fabric of all things. 

So, now I’m on the hunt for patterns to make Suzannah dresses like this.  It’s funny, I thouht it would be a simple task.  I’d find something on ebay or at one of the many cool online fabric shops I drool over.  But, nothing yet.  But I have the fabric all ready to go…she wanted the first one to be aqua…

If anyone knows how to get ahold of patterns for dresses like these…please let me know!  They don’t have to be authentically vintage.
