O Coldplay acaba de anunciar no seu site, as datas de sua turnê latino-americana, marcada para fevereiro e março de 2010. Claro que o Brasil não ficou de fora, os ingleses tocam no dia 28 de fevereiro, no Rio de Janeiro na Apoteose e no dia 2 de março, a banda se apresenta em São Paulo no Estádio do Morumbi.

Os shows fazem parte da turnê “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends“, nome do seu álbum mais recente da banda. A abertura dos shows será feita por Bat For Lashes, nome artístico da cantora e compositora britânica Natasha Kan.

Os ingressos serão colocados à venda a partir de 7 de novembro através do site da TicketMaster e uma bilheteria será montada no estacionamento do Credicard Hall, além de outros pontos de venda físicos, que ainda não foram anunciados. Os clientes dos cartões Credicard, Citibank e Diners terão direito à pré-venda a partir de 31 de outubro até 6 de novembro.

Claro que o Coldplay é muito conhecido e querido no Brasil, mas foi uma grande surpresa o show acontecer no Estádio do Morumbi, local geralmente utilizado para shows de bandas mais populares, como U2, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, entre outras. Mas não dúvido que os fãs da banda consigam lotar o estádio.

The less said about the just-released music video for Coldplay’s über-gorgeous Viva la Vida single “Strawberry Swing” the better, save for the fact that it’s the rare musical video that’s as beautiful as song that it accompanies.  That, and the fact that it proves my age-old suspicion that squirrels, like clowns, are inherently evil.  Trust me on that one.

So just click the picture and prepare to be transported to a magical world of psychedelic chalk animation and the most fabulously colorful super-hero costume I’ve ever seen.  Really, if I were a Watchman, I’m pretty sure my homemade costume would look just like that.

Ah, totally worth it, right?  Absolutely a winner of a music video, and that squirrel is evil!  PURE FRICKIN’ EVIL!  But, zoinksapalooza, I don’t know how to discuss it!

It’s so good that I’m entirely at a loss for anything clever or witty to say.  I can’t help myself; the song is already my zen anthem, and those colors are like gay man’s catnip to me!  Trust me, it’s terrible.  One minute I’m bitch-bitch-bitchin’ away, and then all of a sudden all the whimsical deliciousness has me makin’ a damn fool of myself at my desk.  Just like all these cats:

The cats and I agree: You can’t look respectable drooling all over yourself and rolling on the ground in a state of sublime ecstasy.  Though in my defense, the rainbow-colored butterflies in the end totally had me thinking about Funfetti cupcakes.  If you’ve ever had Funfetti cupcakes while listening to Coldplay, you’d be acting the exact same way.  It’s kinda joygasmic, which is an adjective that also fits this video.

That said, I think the “Strawberry Swing” video has taught us all an important lesson: thoughts of cupcakes and Coldplay should remain as disparate as possible because any collision is inherently NSFSRB (Not Safe For a Socially Respectable Benjamin).  Really, y’all, the results could be dangerous(ly embarrassing).

Hei, saya baru saja mengunduh (download) “Tap-Tap Coldplay” siang tadi. Jadi, sekarang di iPod saya sudah ada tiga jenis Tap-Tap. Ya, permainan yang mengandalkan kelincahan jari itu membuat saya ingin memainkannya lagi, dan lagi.

Berhubung saya sudah mengunduh “Tap-Tap Coldplay” saya jadi ingin mengunduh album-album Coldplay juga. Yang gratis tentunya. Saya googling dan akhirnya menemukan 1 album Coldplay yang “X&Y” lalu saya unduh. Setelah selesai karena speedy lagi cepat-cepatnya pagi ini, maka saya unduh lagi album Coldplay yang “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends”. Belum sempat saya dengar lagu-lagunya saya mulai mengunduh lagi satu album dari Jason Mraz yang “Mr. A-Z”. Ketinggalan jaman, memang.

Saya juga menghabiskan waktu saya hari ini dengan membuka Facebook, dan membalas dinding-dinding aka wall wall dari teman saya. Wall itu bukan es krim. Saya peringatkan sekali lagi wall itu bukan es krim tapi dinding. Kalo walls itu baru dinding-dinding. Bukan deng, merek es krim. Tapi dinding-dinding juga bisa.

Kawan, tahukah bahwa tadi malam sepulang latihan softball dari Lodaya, saya diurut. YA! Kopi susunya (iklan yang ada trio macannya) saya diurut. Di sasar urat. Mengapa? Karena saya merasakan nyeri sepertinya urat saya tertarik, atau urat terjepit, atau urat baso urat, saat melempar bola. Alhasil saya tidak bisa leluasa saat latihan. Jadi, atas desakan kerabat, saya memutuskan untuk memanggil Pa Isom, Sang Maestro dari Dunia Persasar-uratan. Saya divonis menderita urat murungkut. Terdengar sangat sunda, karena memang bahasa sunda. Setelah diurut saya merasa sangat ringan seperti burung camar tinggi melayang, bersahutan, dibalik awan. Dan, semoga saja pinggang saya tidak akan sakit lagi saat latihan. Oh iya, jika anda mengalami sakit badan seperti urat terjepit atau urat murungkut seperti saya, saya sarankan anda untuk mengunjungi Sasar Urut Pijat Pa Isom yang terletak 20 meter dari Elok Mart di Jalan Cigadung Pesantren. Bayangkan! Hanya 20 meter! Sama seperti jarak berenang ujian praktek olahraga saya!

Coldplay's fourth studio album which definitely has put them closer into being remembered by the people for a long time.

An album that certainly continues to amaze me. This album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, is Coldplay’s fourth. It may be short in terms of album length but those 45 minutes are worth it. The album, by far, has been Coldplay’s best and it is better than X&Y.

All the songs are really good. However, if you really want to know what track is somehow mediocre, I would say it would be “Yes”. That quibble aside, I still find the tracks very satisfying and very entertaining.

I can say that it is absolutely better than X&Y well because the tracks are more enjoyable and the songs absolutely can build a connection with its listener.

The opening track, “Life In Technicolor”, really set the tone of the album. One can feel relaxed while listening to the album. Yes, it is that great.

Best track for me would be the controversial “Viva La Vida”. The intro of the song just got me hooked big time. Another good track is that of “Death And All His Friends.” The piano and the latter part of the song really is just so awesome.

Chris Martin may have had did some lower register work in the vocals department but it honestly worked.

There must be a reason on why this album gained so much awards and I think I know why. For one, the album just gives joy to every listener. The album just grows on you and in the end, you end up appreciating it as well. Second, the melodies and harmonies are just top notch. “Viva La Vida” is just so special – especially the arrangements done by the band. And last, Coldplay’s experimentation absolutely was fantastic. You can’t help but laud this band for taking a risk and it obviously paid off for them. Kudos!

In the end, the album really is a classic. This is definitely deserving to be an “Album of the Year” awardee. It’s tracks are absolutely gorgeous and yes, no matter how controversial it may be, it is worth listening to.

Overall, a  5 out of 5.

Seit Freitag kann man auf www.coldplay.com völlig kostenlos ein neues Live-Album mit 9 Tracks runterladen. Das Werk nennt sich LeftRightLeftRightLeft und ist der Website zufolge “a thank you to our fans”. Aber es lohnt sich auch für absolute Coldplay-Neulinge. Denn hier zeigt die Band einmal mehr, dass sie nicht nur ein Studioprodukt ist, sondern eben auch live so gut klingt wie auf der Platte – wenn nicht besser.

LeftRightLeftRightLeft enthält sechs Titel aus dem vergangenen Jahr (Glass Of Water, 42, Strawberry Swing, Viva La Vida, Death Will Never Conquer, Death And All His Friends), zwei Coldplay-Klassiker (Clocks, Fix You) und eine wunderschöne piano-only-Version von Hardest Part (in Verbindung mit dem kurzen Instrumentalstück Postcards From Far Away). Die Aufnahmen stammen natürlich von Konzerten der Viva-La-Vida-Tour; das Album vermittelt also auch einen guten Eindruck davon, was einen bei einem Coldplay-Konzert so erwartet.

Ich kann euch den Download auf jeden Fall nur wärmstens empfehlen – ein besseres Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis gibt es nicht!

I totally recognize that Coldplay is pretty much the “rock” band for soccer moms, and I also recognize that admitting to liking Coldplay (unless you’re a soccer mom) is terminally lame.  Hell, it’s so lame that if you admit to liking Coldplay while in Williamsburg, a swarm of hipsters surrounds you and silently judges you as if you were responsible for bringing the swine flu to an elementary school.

Whatevs, though.  I think they’re great.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of their albums since I first bought Parachutes, and Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was without a doubt one of my favorite albums of last year.  I’ve seen them live twice, and they have a sincere desire to make sure you’re having as much fun as they are when they’re performing.  There’s no posturing to be cool or edgy; it’s just unabashed love, and I for one appreciate that.

Also, there’s this:

“What the hell is LeftRightLeftRightLeft?” you ask?  Well, according to Coldplay.com, it’s the new live album they’re giving away to all concert goers on this (presumably) last leg of their tour.  Oh, and also anyone that can’t make it to a show who instead downloads it from their website.  Says their site:

Good morning. We’re pleased to announce that Coldplay will be giving away a live CD, LeftRightLeftRightLeft, at every remaining live show in 2009 (apart from festival shows). Starting with the band’s first North American tour date, at West Palm Beach in Florida on May 15th, every fan attending a show will be given a free copy of the nine-track CD, which won’t be available elsewhere. Also on May 15th, LeftRightLeftRightLeft will be made available as a free download right here at Coldplay.com, for all fans (and for the same time period). 

According to the band, the give-away is meant as a recession-busting mark of gratitude to everyone who’s supported them: “Playing live is what we love. This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen.”

Hell yes, Coldplay.  Yet another reason for me to love you long time.

Seriously, though, you don’t have to be a soccer mom to appreciate free music.  The fact that Coldplay is giving away an album, both physical copies and digital ones online, is pretty stupendous/genius/the bestest.  Admittedly these are live tracks, so recording off the soundboard of a show that they’re already doing isn’t exactly what would qualify as a challenge.  Still, there’s the cost of mixing to take into account, and let’s not forget the cost of pressing thousands upon thousands of CDs.  Even if this is a cost that’s being absorbed by their record label (which seems unlikely if these rumors of them leaving EMI are true), it’s nevertheless a generous gesture.  Pocket change to them, perhaps, but all the same generous.

And the fact that they then plan to post it online for anybody who stumbles upon their site to take is quite bold.  Crikey, they’re practically becoming Radiohead with this dirty Marxist talk of making music available at any price (or, in this case, the best price: free) the listener should choose!

While I’m well aware of the fact that most musicians don’t have the wherewithal to make so bold of a gesture as to hand out a free CD of music, I do, however hope that Coldplay’s move inspires a few of the bigger artists out there (I’m not pointing fingers, but if I were to, my fingers would go straight to a band that’s name rhymes with Shmootoo) to follow suit.

Perhaps it’s just me, but one of life’s great pleasures is hearing the music you love live.  It’s always a great delight, and–at best–it’s a truly transcendental experience; however, no matter how effervescent the moment is, it’s nevertheless fleeting.  Time marches on, the once crystal clear memories fade into dull coal, and all we’re left with is a lingering sensation of how the moment felt.  Nostalgia can be a beautiful thing, but the moment is always better.

If LeftRighLeftRightLeft is any indication, Coldplay’s one of the few bands today aching to take you back to that moment as best as they can.  LeftRightLeftRightLeft is better than any tour shirt or poster because it’s not silent; it’s the song and the sound of the experience that made you feel alive.  After all, it’s the reason we listen.

Let’s just hope bands are listening to us.

There’s been some freaky-deaky happenings going on. Yesterday, as I was rummaging through my closet for something purple to wear for today’s “purple day” at school, I finally got the left door of my closet open (it’s a double-door closet, in case you didn’t catch that). It’s been stuck for…many many months. I haven’t been able to get to that side of my closet for AGES. It was getting so frustrating! But yesterday, poof, it just opened! And when it opened, I was able to dig through all of the crap that I had on that side, and something else amazing happened. I found an unopened UPS delivery envelope that I had apparently thrown in there in July of last year and had forgotten about. Inside the envelope was a copy of Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, you know, the Coldplay album that everyone has. Well, I had preordered it last year and had planned on it arriving only a couple of days after it was released. I waited. And waited. And waited. And it “never came”, and I was very upset. So I demanded that Amazon.com give me a full refund, shipping & handling and all. And they did, so I bought another copy, which arrived promptly. It turned out that I did receive the first CD that I ordered. I just threw it in my closet and forgot about it. (But I wouldn’t have forgotten about it if the darn door didn’t get stuck.) So now I have two copies of Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.

Also, I found a bag of school supplies from eighth grade that I never used. I now have two practically new report covers that I had forgotten about and left in my closet for two years.

And today, the UPS man came, and I didn’t even order anything. The package that I received included a letter from AT&T, stating that there have been complaints from owners of the Quickfire (the phone that I have) about the battery  burning up when the charger is plugged in the wrong way. The package also include a complimentary redesigned charger. So now I have two chargers for my phone.

I know this sounds crazy (and very The Number 23-ish), but I think that all of these events are somehow connected. The  opening of the double-door closet. The two CDs. The two report covers that I had forgotten about for two years. The two cell phone chargers. Two being one of the TWO digits in my favorite TWO-digit number: 27. I’m in the class of 2011. 2+0+1-1=2. TWO. What’s today’s date? 4/17/09. 4+1=5. 7-5=TWO. 9-7=TWO. What year was I born? 1993. 1+9=10. 9+3=12. 12-10=TWO. When was the Peace Treaty of WWI signed? 6/28/1919. 28-6=22. 1+9+1+9=20. 22-20=TWO. Five of the men featured on the back of the two-dollar bill, which is a representation of the signing of The Declaration of Independence, did not actually sign it.  5-2=3. The two-dollar bill makes up only 1% of all U.S. currency that’s currently printed. 3-1=TWO.

Every year, the music industry’s top artists, producers and songwriters gather at the Grammy Awards in hopes they will be bestowed with mainstream music’s highest honor. Plenty of deserving artists win, but just as many undeserving acts get handed a golden gramophone. In this first installment of my new column, I’ll look at some of the top awards and try to figure out who deserves them, and who, for better or worse, will probably win.

Grammy Award

Record of the Year

Nominees: “Chasing Pavements” by Adele, “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis, “Paper Planes” by M.I.A., “Please Read The Letter” by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

Who Should Win: I’d love to see this award go to M.I.A. The popularity of that song was something phenomenal. For it to jump from primarily college radio to mainstream hip-hop and pop stations goes to show that, once in a while, uniqueness and originality are still rewarded.

Who Will Win: Most of these big time awards go to well established artists. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss will probably win. While they’re certainly deserving, it’s kind of a bummer these awards go to what our parents are listening to, not us.

Album of the Year

Nominees: “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” by Coldplay, “Tha Carter III” by Lil Wayne, “Year Of The Gentleman” by Ne-Yo, “Raising Sand” by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, “In Rainbows” by Radiohead

Who Should Win: OK, now this one is particularly tough. For many, Lil Wayne is a clear choice. While I don’t deny he made an amazing album, I have to give the nod to Radiohead for “In Rainbows.” This disc pushed the limits of an already amazing band. It’s a musical force to be reckoned with and is easily on par with all of Radiohead’s other amazing works.

Who Will Win: This is where I get scared. The album of the year rarely goes to hip-hop artists – just ask Kanye West. If not for that fact, I’d say “Tha Carter III” would get it. I’m suspicious Coldplay will walk away with the award, which would be a complete travesty. I’m not about to completely hate on Coldplay, but their artistic achievements fail in comparison to Radiohead’s. And besides, Coldplay are just a more accessible version of Radiohead.

Song of the Year

Nominees: “American Boy” by Estelle feat. Kanye West, “Chasing Pavements” by Adele; “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles, “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay

Who Should Win: This is an award for songwriting, not performing, which differentiates it from Record of the Year. There are kind of slim pickings when it comes to who I think should win here. “American Boy” was certainly a catchy tune, and Kanye’s work only helped its case. With songwriting in mind, I could stand acoustic heartthrob Jason Mraz getting the award. Sure, his rapid-fire lyrics and overuse of scat solos doesn’t make his work the most artistically viable, but he’s got some class and gives hope to guys wanting to impress their girlfriends.

Who Will Win: I have a distinct feeling Coldplay will take the cake on this one, although a win by Adele is just as likely. Armed with an adorable English accent, girls crooning love songs have always been a sure bet for songwriting awards. Either way, one can’t help but feel there are many more deserving people who could have been nominated. Whatever, that’s the Grammys.

Best Rock Album

Nominees: “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” by Coldplay, “Rock N Roll Jesus” by Kid Rock, “Only By The Night” by Kings Of Leon, “Death Magnetic” by Metallica, “Consolers Of The Lonely” by The Raconteurs

Who Should Win: This kind of goes against all that I’ve said, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Coldplay win this award. The problem lies in the competition. I hate Kid Rock with a passion; Metallica put out a solid album, but it can’t compare to their old stuff, and The Raconteurs take everything good about the White Stripes – one of my favorite bands – and make it horrible. That being said, Coldplay did make a good album that redefined their sound and certainly contained its share of musical ingenuity.

Who Will Win: Coldplay will definitely win this.

Best Rap Album

Nominees: “American Gangster” by Jay-Z, “Tha Carter III” by Lil Wayne, “The Cool” by Lupe Fiasco, “Nas” by Nas, “Paper Trail” by T.I.

Who Should Win: Honestly, I would be happy if any of these albums won. Each was an accomplishment in its own right and was a solid release in the catalogue of each artist. While “American Gangster” was Jay-Z’s best post-retirement release, no one can deny the strength of “Tha Carter III.” Its influence dominated the pop and hip-hop charts and put renewed faith in the rap industry for many. Wayne’s auto-tuned, wheezy, lyrical puns make his flow something special. It is clearly the direction in which rap is headed and, as an innovator, he is at the cutting edge.

Who Will Win: Lil Wayne should easily take this home.

The Grammys will take place Sunday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Viva La Vida Tour è la tournee di promozione del quarto album dei Coldplay, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, che porterà la band britannica allo stadio Friuli di Udine il 31 agosto 2009, un concerto ancora molto lontano ma le prevendite sono state aperte il 16 Dicembre 2008 e visto che per ora sembra essere l’unica data della band in Italia è meglio affrettarsi per l’acquisto dei bigletti, io infatti ho già provveduto visto che adoro i Coldplay, i loro album sono uno più bello dell’altro (qui ho dato il mio parere al loro ultimo lavoro: Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends) e non vedo l’ora di vederli e sentirli dal vivo.
E’ un’occasione da non perdere visto che dopo essere stati in italia il 28 e il 29 settembre 2008 rispettivamente a Bologna e Milano, ad agosto 2009 saranno a Udine, un’ora di macchina da casa mia… mancano ancora 7 mesi ma io mentalmente son già lì che faccio la fila per entrare allo stadio…

Here are my boys and their video for Lovers in Japan, one of my favorite songs off their album: Viva la Vida or Death and All of His Friends.  I just bought Prospekt’s March EP and no surprise, its amazing.  Their music is just so powerful, it just takes over you. I really have no words to explain their music, it really is one of a kind.

Coldplay is my all-time favorite band and I’m so upset because I never got to see them in concert!!  I never get my hands on a ticket and its killing me.  Sooner or later, I NEEEEED to go see them

As you all know, the Grammy Awards are soon airing on February 8th, and there are A LOT of great nominees…

Coldplay is up for 7 NOMINATIONS and they are (according to grammy.com):

Four-time GRAMMY winners Coldplay has seven nominations: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for “Viva La Vida”; Album Of The Year and Best Rock Album for Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends; and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Rock Song for “Violet Hill.”

The Grammy Awards also produced this image of the band, using the names of different songs that have inspired each member of Coldplay into a picture of the band.  They have done this for various artists as well, like Rihanna.

AND, it has been confirmed that they will be performing on the Grammy Awards telecast. I am so thrilled to see them!

Also, my girl LADY GAGA is up for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. HOLLER!!

In other Grammy news, my favorite solo artist JASON MRAZ is up for 2 NOMINATIONS: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year. He is another artist I would love to go see live in concerto…but I have yet to go
