Eine neue Runde, eine neue Wahnsinns-KuH. Und heute aktueller denn je. Oliver Pocher ließ nämlich exklusiv kurz vor unserer Aufzeichnung vermelden, dass er trotz Schweinegrippe am morgigen Freitag seine Late-Night-Show in Sat.1 moderieren wird. Allerdings unter Quarantäne von zu Hause aus. Wie genau das aussehen wird, erklären Körber und Hammes. Ein weiteres Thema sind die deutschen Nachrichtensender – ganz explizit geht es um N24, den Newssender der ProSiebenSat.1-Gruppe. Ein Bericht im „Spiegel“ sorgte am Wochenende für Aufsehen. Darin war von Sparmaßnahmen die Rede, auch eine komplette Schließung des Senders stand im Raum. Was dran ist und wie ProSiebenSat.1 am Mittwoch die N24-Mitarbeiter über künftige Optionen der Neupositionierung informierte, heute in der Medien-KuH.

Drei Stunden Doku-Soap-Wahnsinn hat sich unsere KuHlumnistin Stephanie Engels für euch angetan. Sie berichtet in „TV and the City“ über den neuen Dienstag bei kabel eins.

Filmfreunde erwartet in der 19. Episode der KuH ein „extra großes” Spezial rund um DEN Kinostart der Woche, nämlich „Twilight: New Moon – Bis(s) zur Mittagsstunde“. Okay… sagen wir, Körber und Hammes räumen dem Film so viel Platz in der Sendung ein, wie er verdient.

This Christmas 10 million turkeys will be killed and eaten in the UK. Added to the 45 million that have just met the same fate in the US for Thanksgiving, this represents one of the largest death tolls in such a short time period for any creature.

According to animal welfare charity Viva!, turkeys have a zest for living and, treated with respect, they become very friendly. Wild turkeys live in North and Central America and, apparently, Benjamin Franklin wanted the wild turkey to be the national bird of the US instead of the Bald Eagle. They are striking and handsome, graceful and intelligent. They roost in trees and roam in woodlands, eating vegetation and insects. They live in harems – the mothers being very protective of their young. An adult bird can fly up to 50mph.

How sad then that they have become the food of choice for what is supposedly a Christian festival.

This is poet Benjamin Zephaniah’s plea for this cruelly abused and much maligned bird:

Namibia, gimme some volume! We want to hear your music! Africa shouts: “Mayibuye i’Afrika!” And, “Viva, Namibia, Viva!”

SWAPO Party of Namibia, like MPLA of Angola, like Frelimo of Mozambique, like ZANU-PF of Zimbabwe, like KANU of Kenya and like the ANC of South Africa – they are from Africa. They are Africa! Africa identifies with them, as they are so much an integral part of Africa’s anti-imperial, anti-colonial-settler and anti-racist history. They paid the highest price. They paid with their blood.

One of Africa’s best muses, the late Brenda Fassie sang her African pride out loud, embracing Nelson Mandela and an ANC-led South Africa without imperial colonial-apartheid, where she too could now appear on every stage, not restricted to black townships and squatter camps only.

MaBrrrr, as Fassie was popularly known, reflected the real African. Her hits were sung everywhere in Africa. She spoke isiXhosa, isiZulu, SeTshwana, siPhedi, Tsotsi Taal, English and Afrikaans. She embodied Africanism. Another great African, the late Gibson Kente, trained sis Brenda.

Whether you like it or not, whether this columnist will be discarded as brazenly biased, or not – it is good to be in Africa.

One merely has to ask the international Western interest groups – theirs is however a loveless, indifferent, imperial and a greedy exploitational relationship at any cost. It is destabilizing and war mongering, hateful racist and ungodly. Yes, it is un-Christian!

Perhaps, the reader of this column might now understand, why Africa in general celebrates Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, when he tells the former imperial-colonial-racist master, Britain and their partners, to “go to hell”.

Remember the old colonial-apartheid Boer description of the British in Africa? They are crudely called “Souties”, or “Sout piele” in the Germanic-Afrikaans language or Boere Taal. Directly translated, this means “salties”, or “salt penises”.

This columnist ventured to ask, why? Their explanation to me was, “die een voet is in Afrika en die ander een in Engeland, maar hul piel hang in die Atlantiese Oseaan”. Translated this reads, “The British have one foot in Africa and the other in England, whilst their penises hang in the (salty) Atlantic Ocean. – Well, those imperial international Western British must have something, other Caucasians might be jealous of.

On the other hand, Africa is not necessarily blessed with that vague international Western export ‘Number One’ to Third World countries – “democracy” and all its other sweet-sounding, cancerous offspring, called “freedoms” of whatever.

As the ‘Caucasian international Western civilized’ destructive obsession with their so-called “balance of power” under the flag of democracy is executed amongst others by their well paid-up uncivil, self-righteous and racist “civil society”, organized crime syndicates and covert operations. And, their creations in the form of “popular opposition politics” continue their harassing attempts to discredit and destablise their own.

Believe it or not, the SADC has its fair share of such un-African attempts, funded and guided by foreign interests.

It seems part of the formation of one single block by 2018 – the SADC – that this region is being economically and politically undermined with the willing help of those political non-entities that were turned against their own history for a few Dollars more.

Historically, Africa has been the most brutally colonised and re-colonised continent.

Namibia, like Eritrea had been colonised twice: the first time by Germany (this columnist is a product of the Imperial German colonization of Namibia); the second time by South Africa immediately after World War 1, when Namibia was handed over to South Africa as C-Mandate by their international Western creation, the League of Nations, later the United Nations and thirdly, when the largest chunk of Namibia’s economy became South African owned.

Eritrea was first colonised by the Italians and later by the Ethiopians. Today, Eritrea is almost forgotten.

To defend neo-imperial-colonial ambitions in Africa is offensive and disrespectful for most Africans.

No matter how irrelevant political minions are, it must be hurtful for their mothers and fathers, their brothers and sisters, their children and their workers, when they become recklessly and viciously desperate and collude against their own kith and kin … for a few Dollars more.

Imagine being part of history and then selling it for small personal gain and leave no legacy for anybody.

Senior SWAPO Party leader, Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo once stated wisely, where there are human beings (with egos – the columnist) there are problems. How true.

Imagine, betraying oneself and the principles one once stood for to the point of being prepared to die for? Imagine then, announcing to the general public in Africa as a confirmed and confused renegade and to one’s followers, who are equally confused, that such renegades are “represented at all government institutions, including State House”. What does this say for the incumbent head-of-state? How would a head-of-state deal with such deliberate and intentional undermining? Does he have access to intelligence reports?

It is in Namibia that the Secretary General of the recently formed “Rally for Democracy and Progress, RDP”, Jesaya Nyamu proudly announced, “ RDP is represented everywhere you can think of. Even at State House. They are calling our representatives at State House ‘hibernators’ but those people are on a mission”. As a former senior SWAPO Party member, Nyamu was fired from the party too.

Namibia’s opposition political party, RDP under leadership of fired former senior SWAPO member, Hidipo Hamutenya, split from the ruling SWAPO Party a few years ago, similar to the Congress of Democrats, CoD, under Ben Ulenga.

As repeatedly mentioned, former African political struggle movements who form current governments, are stuck with continuous efforts of destabilisation, character assassination, concerted media onslaughts and vicious propaganda campaigns.

Namibia’s RDP/CoD/DTA; Zimbabwe’s MDC/ZCTU; Kenya’s ODM; Angola’s UNITA; Mozambique’s RENAMO and South Africa’s Cope/DA/UDM/FF+ all sing from the same hymnbook and from the same page, whether or not out of tune, doesn’t really matter. But, it is the old cacophony of the imperial international Western colonial interests in Africa.

The pattern is the same everywhere as the interests remain the same.

However, such noise of confusion reverberates in their own minds only and does not affect the general African public. This is an observation most, if not all representatives from the international West simply cannot understand, therefore not accept. They too are misled by localized greed.

Africa knows this by now. It is nothing new. Therefore it would be solid analysis to assume, SWAPO Party will win this election in Namibia too. In this context this columnist can safely claim that Namibia, SWAPO Party and Sam Nujoma are one.

I would not normally blog about Tigerlily as really, my aim to present the higher end of swimwear fashion.  However, the Viva print (seen here in the pant cut) really does stand out and is well-worthy of a mention.  The material is a little courser than what I would have liked (I much prefer the silky smooth elastanes and lycras), but the print really does make up for that.  Great for the beach and the pool (there is no one-piece version for the resort unfortunately), the Viva will show everyone your classy side.  Definitely highly recommended.  Can be purchased online at Zodees.

Man seriously,becoming a doctor is sooooooooo not worth all this crap.All the sleepless nights,the bouts of anxiety and the constant fear
of these stupid exams which went on and on and on have really taken a toll on me.Even thinking about it makes me want to
puke my guts out.And to add insult to injury,the “witty brains” at the beloved U.H.S came up with the ingenious idea of postponing
our vivas for another  whole month,like we hadn’t been through enough already.(You suck Taliban!!!! If I fail,I am holding you responsible ).Anyway,boy was I the happiest person on the surface of the earth
when I walked out of the Pathology department today after giving my last viva!!!

I remember while I was in my high school  my mom often said,and i am paraphrasing here,”BETA BAS YEHI DO SAAL HAIN.IN

HAI”.Boy how stupid and naive I was to believe that.Little did I know what hell was in store for me in this NOBLE profession of AMMI
and ABBU Jee.

But the good news is that me and our gang have successfuly managed to get it over with.I am so sick of  this exam fever that I swear to
God the first thing i am gonna do when the result gets announced is to burn my Forensic text book(the same thing I did with my Biochemistry
text book).

The last couple of months have been the most boring and monotonous months of my already very boring and monotonous life which
explains how dull  things have been for me lately.I hope things shape up nicely for me in the future cuz if they don’t,i am pretty sure my name would turn up in medicine books as well i.e; THE FIRST PERSON TO ACTUALLY DIE OF BOREDOM.

But enough of the cynicism…..I am sure this is going to be the end of this bland saga.Hoping for a better tomorrow and the day after………

Actually the Viva was some time ago, but I am only now getting round to posting.  I put my suit on, delivered a lecture then went off to my Viva.  When I walked into the room my heart sunk.  My external was sat there with my thesis in front of him with what seemed like millions of post-it notes sticking out from every page.

The questioning was gruelling, I was asked about every claim I had made, about my methodology, about my theory, and about my findings.  I couldn’t answer a question with an answer to another question, my external was too shrewd for that.  I really did have to think and to justify everything, as well as conceded that some areas were not conclusive and could have been better.

I was exhausted by the end of it, and my Director of Studies and I left the room to await the outcome.  She told me that the Viva had been tough and that as a result she could not ‘guess’ the outcome. I didn’t care, I was prepared for the decision of ‘revise and reubmit’.  All I was bothered about was not having to go through another Viva.

Eventually we were called back in to that room.  The decision was minor amendments!!! I was too shocked to be pleased about it.  Suddenly the hard work seems worth it.

Wikipedia has a list of Philippine drama series titles. Read through it and count how many of them were named after songs. Quite a lot, right? Especially among the recent ones. But there was a time when they usually do it in reverse. They make the show first, and then compose an original theme song for it.

For this edition of the POP 10, we list down the most memorable, if not the best original theme songs created for Philippine TV shows.

10. Sineskwela Theme (Sineskwela) – Written by Ryan Cayabyab for a show that aims to make science more fun and entertaining for elementary kids, the tune is now a familiar one to the minds of kids who grew up to ABS-CBN’s first attempt at educational TV. There’s a certain rythm in the music and lyrics that makes the song just so memorable.

Best lines: Tayo na sa Sineskwela, tuklasin natin ang siyensiya. Buksan ang pag-iisip. Tayo’y likas na scientists.

9. Search for the Star in a Million (Search for the Star In A Million) – When ABS-CBN and VIVA TV combined their respective flagship talent searches into one, so did their official themes. The Star in a Million ballad (by Zsazsa Padilla) and the less known Search for a Star song (by Regine Velasquez) was cleverly put together and became this much younger and energetic number (sung by Erik Santos, Sarah Geronimo, Christian and Mark Bautista), much more suited for a music talent show.

Best lines: I’ll be the very best. I’m the champion. You can find in the search for the star in a million.

8. Pinoy Ako (Pinoy Big Brother) – Orange & Lemons was already making good music with their distinct sound even before they made this song for the local Big Brother franchise, but it was Pinoy Ako that gave them mass popularity. Plagiarism accusations-aside, this theme song, at one point (the Manila Southeast Asian Games, for example) has become the nation’s unofficial theme song.

Best lines: Ibang-iba ang Pinoy. ‘Wag kang matatakot. Pinoy ako, Pinoy tayo.

7. Eat Bulaga (Eat Bulaga) – No introduction necessary. The Eat Bulaga TV theme, no doubt, is already part of our lives. Who doesn’t know a line or two from it by heart? The song is able to withstand time, by doing a few tweaks here and there (most notable is the evolving line – Sina Tito, Vic & Joey, [insert line about other hosts here] and the changing of Aparri to Batanes to include our friends up there).

Best Lines: Isang libo’t isang tuwa, buong bansa, Eat Bulaga!

6. Oka Tokat (Oka Tokat) – We always love novelty and originality. Back then it was a rarity to have a rock band sing a theme song for a TV show. But then Parokya ni Edgar came up with this quirky and contemporary song for a TV horror series and others followed their lead soon after.

Best lines: Gusto kong sumigaw, gusto kong tumakbong palayo! Hoy!

This is just the first half of our countdown. For the next half, you’ll see the TV themes of a very popular morning talk show, a pioneering reality show, a telefantasya, a fantaserye, and the CLASSIC TV program that’s probably one of Philippine TV’s bests.

CONTROVERSIAL DOMESTIC EXTREMIST UNITS MAKE DESPERATE RAIDS TO JUSTIFY EXISTENCE

Following a damning series of articles in The Guardian, the National Extremism Tactical Coordination Unit (NETCU), and their sister organisation the National Domestic Extremist Team (NDET) are attempting to justify their existence by raiding and arresting four animal rights activists for conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

NETCU and NDET are run by Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Denis O’Connor, the Chief Inspector of Constabulary, will next month release the findings of his national review of policing of protests and has already signalled he anticipates wide scale change. His inspectors are considering a complete overhaul of the ACPO units, which they have been told lack statutory accountability.

Wearing balaclavas, police officers from four different forces carried out the raids yesterday, smashing through doors and spending over ten hours searching two houses. Witnesses to one of the raids described the police as “intimidating” and “threatening”.

Lynn Sawyer – a resident of one of the houses – who was not arrested stated “This was a massive fishing expedition to promote NETCU’s facade of effectiveness whilst attempting to stop protest through pure terrorisation.”

Apart from computers and mobile phones, the police were also interested in financial documents, evidence of travel and association in support of animal rights extremism. Evidence of such extremism included banners, leaflets and a poster from VIVA, a well respected vegetarian/vegan organisation.

Fitwatch activist Emily Apple stated that “This was an entirely disproportionate policing operation undertaken by an increasingly desperate unit. The threatening nature of these raids and using items such as NGO posters and leaflets as evidence of extremism demonstrate NDET’s dubious definition of domestic extremism and their willingness to intimidate protesters and criminalise dissent.”

Restaurante Babel propõe mistura de sabores

“Uma mistura de sabores e culturas invadiu, há dois meses, a Foz do Douro, no Porto. Na Rua de S. Bartolomeu, abriu o restaurante Babel, no mesmo local por onde passaram outros restaurantes, como o conhecido Gero.

hoje de manhã, estava eu a pendurar a roupa, quando vi passar um bando de cegonhas. Foi assim mesmo por acaso, levantei os olhos e estava um enorme V preto e branco a atravessar o céu.

Depois fui para a escola acompanhada pelo som delas a matraquear (não sei como é que se chama a voz das cegonhas). Era um bando mais pequeno que voava em círculos mesmo por cima de mim. Lindo… e estranho. O regresso foi igual. Aqui perto de casa há um ninho e foi para lá que elas se dirigiram. Assisti a uma luta pelo lugar. Dei uma corrida para pegar na máquina fotográfica. Mas entretanto, quando voltei, a disputa já tinha acabado, uma delas já tinha vencido e tomado posse do lugar. Aqui vai a prova que consegui registar. Eu sei, há coisas mais intensas para chamar euforia, mas depois de tantos meses a espreitar o Condomínio da Renata, foi maravilhoso ver ao vivo a mesma cena

Apart from computers and mobile phones, the police were also interested in financial documents, evidence of travel and association in support of animal rights extremism. Evidence of such extremism included banners, leaflets and a poster from VIVA, a well respected vegetarian/vegan organisation.

Fitwatch activist Emily Apple stated that “This was an entirely disproportionate policing operation undertaken by an increasingly desperate unit. The threatening nature of these raids and using items such as NGO posters and leaflets as evidence of extremism demonstrate NDET’s dubious definition of domestic extremism and their willingness to intimidate protesters and criminalise dissent.”

Costituita l’associazione “Fiumi d’acqua viva”

Venerdì 13 novembre scorso si è costituita a Firenze, con atto depositato all’ufficio del registro, la nuova associazione “Fiumi d’acqua viva – Evangelici su Fede e Omosessualità” che prende il testimone del locale gruppo della REFO a livello organizzativo, morale ed economico.
L’associazione “Fiumi di acqua viva – Evangelici su Fede e Omosessualità” si costituisce come ente di volontariato e di promozione sociale nei termini delle leggi nazionali 266/91 e 383/2000 e della legge regionale Toscana 28/93.
Presidente è stato eletto Andrea Panerini, membri della Segreteria sono Claudio Cardone (Segretario) e Lorenzo Bussoli (membro). Il Collegio dei Revisori dei Conti è composto da Anna Ricca (Presidente) e Lucilla Ricca (Vicepresidente).
“Oggi abbiamo vissuto un nuovo inizio – chiosa Andrea Panerini, neoeletto Presidente dell’Associazione. Abbiamo preso atto di alcune difficoltà sia formali che sostanziali all’interno della REFO e, pur mantenendo comunione di fede e preghiera con essa, abbiamo riscontrato la necessità e la volontà di costituirsi formalmente in associazione con tutti i vantaggi ma anche gli obblighi che questo comporta. Dialogheremo con le chiese, con le altre associazioni e gruppi che si occupano di fede e di omosessualità, a parità di dignità, senza rinunciare mai alla nostra soggettività cristiana e senza la pretesa di sostituirsi alla organizzazioni politiche. Tuttavia vogliamo esprimere con molta forza la nostra preoccupazione nei confronti di una situazione sociale, nel nostro paese, che sta regredendo verso una pericolosa indifferenza nei confronti dei quotidiani atti di violenza e discriminazione verso le persone omosessuali e transessuali e ci sta portando ad una scandalosa renitenza sul tema dell’allargamento dei diritti”.
Il tesseramento 2010 sarà aperto il 1° dicembre e il prossimo incontro dell’Associazione avrà luogo sabato 12 dicembre a partire dalle ore 18,30 presso il Centro comunitario valdese di Via Manzoni, 21 a Firenze con approfondimento sul tema “Abbi pietà di me, o Dio, abbi pietà di me, perchè l’anima mia cerca rifugio in te; e all’ombra delle tue ali io mi rifugio finché sia passato il pericolo” (Sl. 57,1). A seguire avrà luogo un momento conviviale da decidersi.
