しうか (shiuka) is an illustrator best known for his(?) illustrations for various Vocaloid songs on niconico. His most significant contributions are for doing the artwork and videos to most of プーチンP (PutinP)’s songs, most notably for きえないひとみ。(Kienai Hitomi./Unvanishing Eyes.), and also for this piece of artwork done for mothy’s 悪ノ召使 (Aku no Meshitsukai/Servant of Evil) video. His works are mostly Vocaloid-centered, and especially heavily feature Kagamine Rin and Len. shiuka likes a strong and tough Len (“Ikeren”) the most, and just adores Rin in general. He also uses a computer (without an LCD monitor) running Windows XP, draws with a Wacom Intuos 3, and uses SAI for drawing and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for further image editing. His blood type is A.

shiuka generally has two different styles. The first one is quite anime-like, with huge eyes, bright, pastel colours, sharp and minimal shading, and undetailed hair. They also usually feature light-hearted content. This style is most prevalent in his older illustrations. As for his second style, it looks very solemn and serious, with almost no smiling characters, muted, cold, and dark colour themes, and quite a few usages of grungy textures in the background. In this style, shiuka also draws strands of hair, uses illuminating highlights, and sometimes even details actual noses and lips. He also sometimes has a mix between his two styles to a very aesthetic effect.

Of course, being a collaborator with PutinP certainly means that nothing is ever what it seems, and the best examples of shiuka’s serious style have been from gravely hilarious and near-classic (Please click on this) pieces of art. He also designed the now relatively-well-known Russian Rin (Nicknamed プーリン/Purin as a joke to プーチン/Putin) who is always the subject of PutinP’s videos. He also designed Russian(?) Luka and Miku McDonald, both of which are used in PutinP’s songs as well.

In addition to illustration, shiuka has also helped out some niconico producers with putting together videos and has even uploaded a 51 second song (niconico link only) where he personally tuned an UTAU Vocaloid, 欲音ルコ (Kokune Ruko) to skillfully sing Silent Night in English.

In conclusion, shiuka is a very good artist (with other talents!) who is only getting better and better, as can be seen from his older to newer works, but has already established his own slick and definable style. I personally just can’t get enough of his serious style.

Actually, this song is Luka’s original song.

This song will tell us about Luka who’s dating a boy(Len), who’s cheating her with other girls. Luka’s feel very hurt and sad when she knew that Len are cheating her. And yet, she couldn’t being in love.

Basically, this song is answer for  鏡音レン – SPICE! .

I like this songs because it’s touched >< . Well,,Len are illustrated mean in both of SPICE! and RIP=RELEASE, but actually Len are a good boy and he is Rin’s eternal lovers untill the end XD .

MAD yang sudah lama. Tapi baru kuliat sekarang dan menarik sekali. Parodi dari opening Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai, eroge buatan NAVEL yang char-charnya diganti dengan VOCALOID, UTAU, juga fanmade VOCALOID. Lagunya berjudul Jewelry Tears yang dibawakan Misato Aki.

In this hobby, nendoroids are such a big craze that it wouldn’t be surprising to have heard about them or own at least one. With the abundance of styles and characters from anime series, one nendoroid is bound to make it’s way into your home.

I’ve amassed what I think is a sizable collection, but I never posted pictures of what my nendoroid army looks like. The pictures are a bit outdated and do not accurately reflect the enlisting of new recruits.

According to Tsuki-board.net, I supposedly own roughly a combination of 160 nendoroids and nendoroid petites, but the numbers on Tsuki-board is not accurate considering it is open to users adding into the database which invites human error.

My very first nendoroid set was the heavily bootlegged versions of the Death Note and I’ve wisen up to both bootlegs and internet purchases. They were my first and last bootlegs and for those who don’t know the difference, it’s definitely a big difference and going authentic is the way to go in the long run. My first authentic nendoroid purchase (IIRC) was Bincho-tan at a local anime store.

As a completionist, I tend to complete sets regardless of how exclusive and/or limited the figures are or how the odds of being able to acquire the figure are stacked against me. Given the manufacturer behind the nendoroid line is Good Smile Company (for the most part), the exclusives and limiteds released are plentiful and have to be one of the most aggravating line to collect. Anything from event exclusives such as your standard fare of Wonder Festival and Comiket items to the unconventional shrine solicitation, mail-in dvd coupons, webshop, magazine, and video game sets.

If you’re not into cute, super deformed/chibi-fied characters, nendoroids are probably not your thing and it saves you the trouble of having to deal with such a problematic delightful line-up. For the large quantity of nendoroids out there in a typical $34.99 price range, collecting this line quickly adds up in costs. I think the normal retail price that nendoroids are sold for are a bit steep for the amount of quality involved and scale. For around the same price, I could purchase a full-scaled figure from Kotobukiya’s US distributor and mainly prefer full-scaled figures over non-scaled ones. Sometimes, nendoroids have amazing retail prices such as Saber Lion nendoroid at $29.99 and other times nendoroids are regularly priced at $41.99 if they come with additional accessories. From another perspective, the price for this nendoroid is just about right considering this is an imported novelty item.

As you can see, I can’t say “no” to these devilishly cute little items and wonder when or if I’ll ever tire of this figure type. Even with how much is constantly being mass-produced and the never-ending releases of extraneous product I wouldn’t have bought in the first place had a nendoroid or nendoroid petit not been attached to it.

I had a difficult time stacking the boxes of nendoroids on top of one another in fear of the boxes falling over and taking damage. I was rearranging the figure boxes and decided to use some of them as support for the nendoroid wall. Thank you Hayate, Moetan, Hime, Onechanbara, Spirit of Wonder girl, Louise, Reinforce, Haruhi, Iroha, Unity May, Garnet, Hiyori, Chidori, Klan Klang, Kpuhime, Saber Maid and everyone else.

I hope everyone had a really fantastic Thanksgiving holiday. My Thanksgiving holidays are always the same – nothing special and nothing disastrous. I am a bit ticked off that eating establishments overcharge base price just because it’s a holiday, but I should have expected that. Now, I didn’t  have time to cook or prepare anything for Thanksgiving and my family went out to do their own thing this year meaning I couldn’t come over and eat some good food with them.

See? Random blog entry. Anywho~ I’m going out of town this weekend, so finishing my novel will be LOTS of fun. I’m going to like… glue my notebook to my arm or something. DON’T ASK WHY. I really don’t know what good that will do.

ERIIIIIIIIIIIN. She’s my main character for brick after brick. And is partially a genius. Sorta. (YAY FOR HOMESCHOOLING!) Not exactly how I imagined her, but oh well. XD; I’m gonna draw an actual picture of her! (might even try to do that after i pack and before i write. i dunnooooo.) 

Unfortunately, she doesn’t have as many faults as I want her to have. :[ Blargh. Must make her more realistic! She is a fun character, though, but I just hope she’s not a mary sue.

Now that I have a mini photo studio, I thought of giving the camera (a Canon Powershot SX1) a fair chance. I took some pictures and decided to compare the power of RAW against normal JPEG pictures. And woah, RAW really can make a LOT of difference. I did the following:

1. Take a picture of a figure (in this case Miku… I really should have dusted it off XD; ) in the wrong setting (I chose daylight) in raw.
2. Convert the RAW image to JPEG without changing the settings.
3. Convert the untouched JPEG in Photoshop to make it look right.
4. Convert the RAW image to JPEG with the settings tweaked to make it look right.

Below you see steps 2, 3 and 4. See for yourself why RAW is such a nice feature to have for photography.

Third one does look the best, right? I just couldn’t get the colours quite right in the second picture, and the figure doesn’t really pop out of the background, like in the third. Okay, I know there are lots of people more experienced with Photoshop than me, but don’t forget that changing the RAW didn’t even took half a minute, while the Photoshopped one did take quite a while longer.

So, should you only buy a camera with RAW? Oh no, those are way too expensive for regular consumers. I really saved up for one because I really wanted a real good camera, because it turned into a hobby of mine. Just don’t forget to always check the light setting

buzzG is a Vocaloid composer who is pretty new to the scene, with his first niconico submission being from July 31, 2009. His best known works are AGAINST, Flashback, 赤い雨 (Akai Ame/Red Rain) and name of memory. His most popular work so far is AGAINST, a GUMI song with a PV done by artist meola, with 2,900+ Mylists. buzzG resides in Tokyo, Japan, and made his first song within only one month of learning how to use midi and Vocaloid.

buzzG composes mostly rock songs and occasionally ballads, and as a result his songs always have an electric guitar and bass playing significant parts. All his songs sound high quality since there’s a quite a lot of depth with all the intruments playing different parts at once, but is well arranged in that it doesn’t sound messy. The flow of his songs are usually relatively predictable, but don’t sound boring as there are enough twists, and the main melody isn’t repeated over and over. buzzG’s Vocaloid tuning is quite impeccable in that even his first work with Vocaloid is easy to listen to and don’t sound rigid and robotic. In AGAINST, his latest song, GUMI’s vocal tuning sounds so natural and well-done that a lot of commenters on niconico say that it sounds nearly human.

All in all, buzzG composes some consistently well-done songs with very good vocal tuning. Looking forward to hearing more works from him!

Yuuyu is fairly well known in the vocaloid community, mainly for the song Sakura no Kisetsu, though Yuuyu employs a wide variety of musical styles in this album. A couple of experimental tracks are extremely exceptional, and so I have no choice but to recommend this album.

So here I am, finally documenting the delivery of my anime goodies from Hong Kong.  Like most of the items I order from overseas it took about a week and a half to get here, but the wait was worth it, my Hatsune Miku goodies arrived!  The first was a plushy I got to add to the “squishy” corner of my desk.  I have her positioned in front of Pikachu and next to tofu so she can stare at M who’s desk is next to mine.

There were 2 versions of this toy, the version 2 availability was the only reason I bought it.  The normal face expression just wasn’t doing it for me, but it was the shocked/confused/OMG! look of the other that made me drop the $20 in a heartbeat.  The outfit she is dressed in is more detailed than I was expecting with even a little bow on her panties.

The second item in the package was a new “ergonomic” oppai mouse pad featuring my favorite teal haired vocaloid. The mousepad is exactly what I was expecting!  It is a ton more comfortable for long nights of WOW than my old plain black one.  M likes to use it as an excuse to call me a perv for resting my hand on anime boobies.

I just think he is jealous.

hello again, I know it has been quite a while, and I am sorry for the inactivity of the blog recently. Exams (and gaming) had taken up a large proportion of my life recently, even stopped to listen to new vocaloid songs for a while. I know, that’s pretty shameful.

Anyway, so in this third installment of this mini-series I will give you the link of three fairly unique songs. They both came out a few months back, but I feel like they should deserve a mention here in the blog

The first one is called Ren’ai Shikkan, which means “love disease“, composed by まだ仔(madashi)

a nice jazzy song on the topic of love. Wait till the 2nd chorus and find a quite pleasant twist to the story. I already loved the music, and the lyrics just made it a must-listen to the vocaloid fans.

Next up, we have Persona Alice, from the composer ハチ (“hachi”)

With its unique sounds comes a sad story about a girl forced to be in solitude due to a curse from a witch. A gentle and sad fantasy story that just tugs your heartstring. I trust the lyrics on the video to be correct.

Finally, the killer punch, Moonlit Bear, from one of the best producers, 悪ノP (“aku no P”, famous for his breakthrough hit “Aku no-” series)

Started with the ominous crows, the dark tone from the keyboards, the impacts of the percussions and the synth, the intro reaches its crescendo at the 25th second into a riff that just makes you want to bang your head. Like every other ones of his creations, this one also hides a grave story behind the lyrics.

Well, I hope you enjoy those interesting songs. Certainly something you can’t find in the mainstream music.
