So just wanted to let everyone know that Sideways has Hoodies, but no Snuggies. Our hoodies, from brands like Element, Volcom, WeSC, Nixon, and Nomis also allow you to work the remote, talk on the phone, enjoy a snack with ease. But unlike Snuggies, which make you look like a crazy person, hooded sweatshirts look great! Plus you can wear hoodies when walking, snowboarding, skateboarding, partying, pretty much anything. So yeah. No Snuggies here.

So this weekend is Mammoth Mountains big kickoff weekend and while they have been open off and on for a few weeks now this is the “official” opening party. There’s some ski movie and DJ tonight(whoop dee doo), tomorrow is when the real fun starts. Transworld Snowboarding’s video Get Real will be shown in the Village and then after everyone will mosey into Whiskey Creek and well, you can figure out the rest. After you complete your hungover day of riding with a thousand other hungover people on Saturday make your way to the Village once again and check out the I Am Snowboarding art show.

The show is about celebrating the life of Jeff Anderson one of the most prolific snowboarders of our generation who sadly passed away back in 2003. Jeff was a huge part of the snowboard community, the early 2000’s Mammoth scene, and a very talented artist. This show is sure to have some really cool work as it features pieces from over forty of the industries top artists. You can split your time between mingling with the artsy types and watching Mammoth’s new video Hot Laps which I know for a fact will feature some very very hot laps from talent like Mason Augirre, Greg Bretz and Tyler Flannigan. Of course there will be giveaways, beer gardens and more name dropping than one person should have to suffer but all in all I’m positive it will be a good time. Heck you might even go snowboarding while you’re there, I hear this Mammoth Mountain is pretty fun. See ya on the hill.

Cheers.

Snowboarding is one of the most inspiring winter sports that you can now participate in. When most of the people think of snowboarding they think of young youngsters shredding down the snow slope. While that might be true, there are plenty of possibilities for older riders of all ages to enjoy snowboarding.

Come visit us right here for more info on Special Blend. We are the greatest source of info on Snowboarding today.
http://snowboardingclothing.org

Not long ago ski destinations weren’t extraordinarily hospitable to snowboarders, but as skiing recognition started decreasing during the 90’s they discovered that snowboarders spent as much or more money as their skiing counterparts and commenced welcoming them in hordes.
Snowboarding clothing is similar to what you would typically wear skiing. You always want to dress in layers. Selling and design departments everywhere has made snowboarding particular clothing. The reality is it is the same warm clothing you would wear skiing that just looks more hip for the youngsters. Adults can certainly wear their skiing trousers and jackets if they need and have the same amount of fun. Snowboarding corporations say that the snowboarding clothing has extra space and is more content which is simply a fancy way of saying the clothing is loose. Bottom line : whatever keeps you warm and dry is what you want to snowboard.
Safety is crucial to consider if you are traveling down the snow slope at a good rate of speed. Many folks are using helmets to guard from cranial impact when you necessarily take a spill.

Goggles or shades are crucial to have when snowboarding. However if a snowstorm materializes on top of the mountain you’ll wish that you had a pair of goggles. Sunglasses won’t be much help and if you have zip to protect your eyes, making your way down the mountain will be awfully difficult, if pretty much impossible.
Snowboarding looks extremely simple but the truth is it is really tricky to master. Snowboard lessons will help you become a safer rider, teach you ways to mount and dismount the chairlift correctly and show you the right way to govern your snowboard.

Today, again, I hodge-podged mannequins, which I have been doing for the past week and a half now. Though, unlike all the other times where nothing much else was going on in the studio other than work, my other supervisor, Leonard, who was the one that granted me this internship to begin with, gave a presentation about his work experience at Volcom and the company’s “image” to an art class from OOC. While I was in the back of the room busy finishing a mannequin, I set my iPhone on record. This is what I overheard: files.me.com/mklein7/8a7e2q.mp3

(Sorry for the low volume. I was pretty far away, and sorry it’s cut short. It was at the end of my shift, and I had to leave midway through the presentation.)

Lacking holiday spirit, I didn’t dress up and unfortunately did not take any pictures. There was a potluck of sweet treats, cookies, cake, and candy and a costume contest (I’m not sure who won). I’m still new and haven’t met many people since most of the time I’m sitting in front of a computer, but nevertheless it was a good Friday at work.

Let me start from the beginning of this whole endeavor by explaining the entire process it took for me to get everything situated so that I can begin my internship.

I sent in my resume in late June and didn’t hear back from Volcom for almost a month; only to be told that my application was still in the process of review. Another month went by (as I continuously bombarded them with emails trying to check up on my application status) until they finally gave the approval. They also tell me that, in order for me to even be able to intern for them, I must be enrolled in a studio art intern program offered at UCI (STU ART 197). At the time, I had no idea what I had to do. So, I went to the Student Affairs office a week before school started, and they tell me that I need to find a ten-year studio art, resident, faculty member to oversee my internship (preferably someone whom I have taken his/her class and have a close association with). This was troubling for me because I don’t have that type of a relationship with any of the still-residing faculty. I sent out emails to different professors and asked some in person, all of whom either were not qualified as “ten-year resident faculty” or had declined my request.

Up until a week ago, everything was looking bleak until I heard back from Daniel Martinez in response to an email I sent him a few days prior. He readily agreed to oversee my internship and signed the “Internship Enrollment Authorization Form”. I’m glad because he was definitely my best choice since I had met him a few times last year through my membership in Catalyst. I felt relieved at the time, but I still had to get the form signed by the Department Chair which took another few days. By this time, it was getting extremely close the add/drop deadline, but I finally received the class and authorization codes and was able to enroll online in the course the last day before the deadline (Friday, October 9th).

With all of this done, I told Volcom the news, and they gave me a starting date, October 27th, though I might be able to start sooner (I hope).

This entire process just to sign up for a class took almost two weeks in which I was going back and forth between emails and going to the Studio Art Office how ever many times (I lost count). It was such a pain! The one thing that I didn’t really understand was why the students are required to find a faculty member to oversee them, instead of a faculty member simply being assigned to a student who needs one. It would make registration in this course easier and much faster.
