It seems like VW will be using the Jetta name for a new compact sedan built in Mexico. Unlike the last Jetta, this one apparently won’t be a Golf with a trunk glued to its bottom but a bespoke car. Given the fact that the Golf Mk 6, the new Polo, and the new Fox look exactly the same, differing only in size, we can surely believe them that the new car will be bespoke indeed. In size. Apparently the new Jetta will arrive in June 2010 but it could get another name in Europe. The car will be first launched in the US and only then prepared for its European debut.

Another possibility for VW is to bring the Polo in the US. As Ford did it with the Fiesta and Mazda with the 2, so bringing the Polo to America sounds like the sensible thing to do as it is a good little car which can easily rival the other two. Whatever the plans of VW, now the biggest car maker in the world, for the US it will be interesting to see what they’ll come up with.

Following the success of the album of the decade debate, we’re now on to the advert of the decade.  Follow it on Twitter with the hashtag #adofthedecade.

I don’t really watch an awful lot of television, so perhaps I’m poorly qualified to write this post.  I certainly couldn’t blog about TV, like Curtinho does in his excellent treatise on the coming and goings of US shows.

I watch the news, sport, current affairs shows, and enough of Corrie and Eastenders to keep abreast of what is going on (always an easy way to make conversation with the grandparents if other topics get exhausted). 

I generally use ad breaks as an opportunity to nip to the loo, make a cuppa, or channel-hop.  Even so, there are plenty of adverts which have permeated my consciousness over the 21 years of my life so far. 

The Cadbury’s Caramel bunny was perhaps the first – even now I view her as the Lara Croft of confectionery due to the overly-sexual representation she was given.  Nobody can fail to remember that silky voice.  And if anyone questions the above, just watch the below advert from 1980 (admittedly not in my lifetime, but even then they were laying the crude foundations).

Cadbury’s also had a more recent winner with the gorilla playing a bit of Phil Collins.  Guinness have had some brilliant ads over the years, and I always enjoyed the Kit Kat one with the salmon for its great simplicity and the splendid invocation from Jason Statham: “Remember – you are not a salmon.”

But no advert in the last decade has come anywhere near the singing dog used by Volkswagen Polo.  It has everything; it’s funny, it’s catchy, it’s not over-commercial, and best of all it got up the noses of 286 people who presumably have nothing better to do with their time (do read the story on that link, some of the comments are hilarious – perhaps my favourite criticism is that the dog should have been sat in the back wearing a seatbelt).

So if and when you sit down to evaluate the last decade of your life, remember to be grateful for Volkswagen’s cleverly-trained singing dog.  On three: “I’m a man, yes I am…”

The European Car of the Year jury have announced their 2010 Car of the Year: the Volkswagen Polo.

This is the first Volkswagen to receive this award since 1992, when the Golf received the award. It was only 10 points ahead of the Toyota iQ, which placed second.

The biggest news to be heard in the car market is the launch of the Small in size and Huge in price Car “The Volkswagen’s New Beetle<" which would be available in the Indian market form 4Th Dec 2009. The New Volkswagen Beetle is not the exact replica of the old Beetle but has close resemblance in terms of interiors and exteriors. The Beetle has its own brand value as it was one of the car which had 20 million units running on the road in the late 80’s. Volkswagen will have the benefit of capitalizing on the existing image of the Beetle.

Volkswagen’s Beetle is a luxury car priced in the range of 20 lakh and above with an import duty of 110 per cent. Volkswagen has provided Beetle with 115hp petrol engine with a capacity of 2.0 litre along with 15 inche tyres. The new Beetle has its engine in the front and has luggage storing space in the back. The car would be initially manufactured in Mexico and will be imported as a Completely Built Unit.

Volkswagen is expanding its Indian Market and bringing in new variants which are Polo, Touareg and beetle with its existing cars Passat and Jetta. Polo will be launched in the market during the Auto Expo 2010 in the month of January. Beetle is already enjoying the brand image which has attracted an advance sale of about 160 units.

The Indian Market will be flooded with a wide range of Cars in the coming year as the market is showing a great interest and enthusiasm for the Upcoming Cars. Beetle is expected to establish itself among other brands as it carries the legacy of the old Beetle and the technology of New Volkswagen.

Some details on the upcoming Audi A1 (Pictured in the spy shot above) have been leaked.

The A1 may be coming to North America. More and more small cars are making their way here, so it would make sense for Audi to join the game as well.

A more interesting detail is that the car may do without Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, despite the rumoured S1 and RS1 models. This is to save weight and cut production costs. The S1 and RS1 models would keep the front-wheel-drive layout.

Now, you might think this is all just rumours, and perhaps it is, but a FWD Audi is definitely a possibility. FWD is already offered on a few models, and parent company Volkswagen has plenty of FWD cars as well. With the enviroment and money being a big concern lately too, FWD makes sense, as its cheaper, saves weight and saves fuel.

The S1 and RS1 models would be to fight the Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper S JCW respectively. The S1 is expected to receive the 1.4L 180hp engine out of the Volkswagen Polo GTI. The RS1’s engine is unknown though, the existence of the car itself is even still only a rumour. If it is made, a tuned version of the S1 engine may be used, with power bumped up to 220hp.

Still not too sure about this car, the S1 and RS1 options sound appealing, but until I see the car without camo, I’m not too sure about the looks.

Volkswagen has a range of R cars, which currently consists of the Golf R and Scirocco R. Both are quite good looking, and come with the punch to match those looks.  Now there are reports coming in stating that in a few years, a Polo R will appear.

According to these reports, it should have a turbocharged 1.4L TSI engine putting out 190hp. The top speed is expected to be around 230kph (About 143mph), and it should cost around 27,000 Euros.

I’m not too sure if I’d be interested in such a thing, and even so, I believe the North American market doesn’t get any of the R cars, which is a shame, as I quite like the Scirocco R and the Golf R. I reckon it should be a good car though, just don’t know if I personally would want one.

Jakarta, 04 November 2009 - Salah satu varian city car keluaran Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyota iQ diunggulkan sebagai mobil terbaik Eropa (European Car of The Year / ECOTY) 2010. Seperti dikutip MotorAuthority, Rabu (04/11), city car sub kompak itu masuk dalam jajaran finalis ECOTY 2010.

Disebutkan pula salah satu varian terbaru Toyota itu bersaing ketat dengan Citroen C3 Picasso, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Opel/Vauxhall Astra, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Yeti, serta Volkswagen Polo untuk mencapai posisi sebagai mobil terbaik Eropa.

Mobil yang mulai dipasarkan di Jepang pada November 2008 lalu itu, didesain di Pusat Desain Toyota yang berbasis di Perancis Selatan.

Toyota iQ memiliki panjang 2.985 milimeter (mm), lebar 1.680 mm, serta tinggi 1.500 mm. Di Eropa mobil ini ditawarkan dalam tiga tipe yaitu tipe mesin bensin dengan kapasitas 1.000 dan 1.300 cc, serta tipe mesin diesel dengan kapasitas 1.400 cc.

Sementara di Jepang, ditawarkan tipe mesin bensin dengan kapasitas 1.000 cc VVT-i tiga silinder. Dengan kapasitas sebesar itu, mampu menghasilkan tenaga 68 PS pada 4.800 rpm dengan torsi 9,3 kgm atau 90 Nm pada 4.800 rpm.

Pada hajatan Indonesia International Motor Show 2009 yang digelar Juli lalu, Toyota iQ sempat dipamerkan. Kala itu, mobil yang disebut sebagai pesaing berat dari city car keluaran Mercedes yaitu Mercedes Benz Smart “Keberadaan Toyota iQ ini untuk mengetahui respon masyarakat,” tutur Achmad Rizal, Manajer Komunikasi Pemasaran PT Toyota Astra Motor.

Di Eropa Toyota iQ juga telah dinyatakan lolos dalam uji keselamatan standar benua tersebut. Bahkan, mobil ini meraih peringkat bintang lima di uji European New Car Assessment Programmed (Euro NCAP) tersebut. Di benua Eropa, mobil itu dibanderol sekitar Rp 350 juta.

ECOTY 2010 rencananya akan diumumkan pada 30 November mendatang. Satu hal yang menarik di ajang ini, adalah tidak masuknya mobil-mobil keluaran Amerika serta mobil hybrid Eropa di jajaran finalis. Begitu pun dengan mobil sport seperti BMW Z4, Nissan 370Z, Subaru Legacy, atau Porsche Panamera.

The German Car maker, Volkswagen is getting ready to launch the popular cars from its stable, Volkswagen Polo and the iconic Beetle in India

VW is expected to launch the hatchback model of Polo in the first half of 2010, which will be followed by the sedan version of Polo in the second half of the year. The car has been tested for Indian conditions and is now all set to adorn the Indian roads.

In India, Volkswagen Polo will be available in both petrol and diesel models at Chakan near Pune, which has an annual production capacity of 110,000 units. The company has so far invested around Rs 3,800 crore in the plant.

Apart from this, 50 per cent of Polo’s components and parts will be sourced from the domestic market. And it will be later increased provided the quality of the materials is of superior standard.

Volkswagen currently sells premium sedans such as Passat and Jetta in India. And now it will be launching the Beetle sometime by the end of this year or early next year.

What happens when an automobile giant puts in loads of money into a car production factory?

It definitely gives birth to to a brand new car. And with a capacity of producing 1.1 lac cars annually, Volkswagen is definitely aiming big with its all new generation of POLO, the car thats going to rock the Indian Market from the first quarter of 2010.

The Polo will be featured in the premiun B2 segment for the Indian customers. The present competitors in this segment are Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Fiat Punto and Chevrolet U-VA.

With its now widely publicized Chakan Plant near Pune, Maharashtra, Volkswagen is doing what it should for creating an hype for the Polo hatchback.

Now for all you performance freaks, Polo will initially feature the following engines, 1.2 liter 3 cylinder petrol and 1.6 liter 100 hp. unit,  and also a 1.2 liter TDI common rail diesel engine, and hopefully the company even plans to go for the automatic DSG gear-box with the launch of the Polo. The company even plans to bring its TSI engine variant in India. 1.2 liter TSI, because of its force induction technology, is able to deliver very high power output (104hp), beside its small size.

What can we expect from this car?

Well as VW is launching the Polo in India, which is a price caution market, you cannot compare the standard of components in the car with the one in European market.

A few guaranteed features includes:

• Beige Upholstery (which India loves)
• 1.2 & 1.6 liter petrol Engine & 1.2 liter TDI Engine
• 14 inches high profile wheels

Hopefully Volkswagen will live up to its expectations, and give attention to the Indian customers demands (unlike her sibling Skoda)

For the final words, we can expect the Polo to be as Sporty as its name is.

Today i had my first proper lecture and we found out straight away that they were not going to spoonfeed us when they put us into groups where we had to find the people ourselves. As soon as i got my group name i left the building and luckily heard someone shouting my group name so found most of the people in my group! We are meeting up tomorrow to discuss our cabinet of curiosities although mine is locked away in a cupboard in the Allen Terry building so will have to try and get that out at some point tomorrow. We have a media practice lecture then media practice so hopefully it means we will get to make something

In the lecture today we were shown three videos from youtube and were asked to think about the question ‘what is media?’ We were shown a link onto this page to show us what our tasks will be for the next week. Answering the question ‘what is media?’ is a complicated thing to do because it covers such a wide area which have sub-genres such as TV, internet, advertising etc. This is the pagethat we were shown that contains the videos. This is also where we will post the results of our group discussions. The first video called ‘hahaha’ is not a traditional piece of media because no professional equipment was used and was most probably filmed on a handheld camera or a camera phone. There was no editing used apart from at the beginning when there was writing in foreign language on the video. Youtube shows how media has changed over recent years. the growth of the internet has brought the growth of youtube. It is now used as a place where anyone can post pretty much anything for others to view. This can be from an unprofessional video such as the ‘Hahaha’ video which has racked up so many hits, to a profetional looking video such as the Keira Knightly cut movie. This was an advert to campaign against domestic violence that was taken off air because of the amount of complaints from the public. I can understand why people would complain because it is graphic and quite shocking because adverts like this are not usually broadcast. although it is a very effective advert because it clearly gets its point across by shocking the audience into realising that although this particular advert is fictional, domestic violence is real and a problem that some women go through. The fact, ‘2 women die a week from domestic violence’ shows the audience that it is a serious problem that needs sorting out. The advert is not ‘nice’ to watch so it got many complaints but it is something that people need to be aware of because it is something that needs support to combat it. The third video we saw in the lecture was one for Volkswagen polo. Volkswagen and their advertisers said that it had nothing to do with them although it was done professionally and is the kind of thing your would see on a TV advert. Although it would never had made it as an advert because of the bomb in the car. Especially now with the huge media coverage of the suicide bombers in the recent years! It has comical value that matches very well to the slogan ’small but tough.’ The fact that no-one takes any notice of the car makes the comical value even better Also the unexpectedness of the end of the advert makes the audience want to watch it again. The location is used well because car adverts are usually set in a beautiful setting so the car looks even better. Youtube has become very popular and is a key piece of the media industry and media consumption. It is the new ‘cutting edge’ and is so popular because of the wide range of production values. Youtube and items similar are now shown as pat of the media industry as advertisers use it to promote their items.

So, what is media? its hard to define media exactly but i think it is a big sharing resource that is shown mainly through electrical equipment such as computers, TV, newspapers go through a printer, radio ect.

Ülkemizde bir çok modeliyle tüketicinin öncelik verdiği markalardan biri olan Volkswagen yine çok sevilen modeli Polo’yu yeni yüzüyle piyasaya sürüyor.

Volkswagen’in yeni tasarım anlayışı Polo’da da devam ediyor. Selefine göre daha iddialı bi imajla karşımıza çıkan yeni Polo tasarımda ağabeyi golf ve ailenin hırçın çocuğu Scirocco’dan izler taşıyor. Aracın iç tasarımındaysa yine ağabeyi Golf’le birebir denecek kadar yakın bir tasarım yer alıyor.

Volkswagen is unveiling three new cars it claims are the most efficient in the world in their respective classes. There are no prizes for the gusses since they are the three popular Volkswagen cars – the Polo, Golf and Passat Bluemotion.

The three Volkswagen cars claim to offer class leading fuel economy and emissions figures.

These stats would make the three cars the most efficient in each of their classes, and make the Polo the lowest emitting car available, beating the Smart diesel’s 88g/km and the new Toyota Prius at 89g/km.

All three cars are due to go on sale in the UK next spring, with the Passat arriving first, followed by the Golf, with the Polo coming third.

Niewielkie miejskie samochody nie muszą być nudne ani brzydkie. Propozycje producentów już od kilku lat prezentują nowe podejście do tego typu pojazdów. Auta wyładniały, stały się atrakcyjne. Metamorfozę można porównać do bajki o brzydkim Kaczątku. Popatrzmy: Corsa C – niby nie aż tak zła, ale obecna generacja nie dość że urosła to jeszcze wypiękniała. Nowe Polo też zyskało in plus. 207 ma nadal urok 206, Clio podobnie jak Corsa rozkwitło jak dziewczę. Grande Punto. Samochodzik urodziwy, ale już dostępny od kilku lat. Wyglądem nadal przykuwa oko na gdy przemieszcza się miejskich uliczkach czy promenadach. Więc Fiat postanowił nieco odświeżyć Grande Punto. Ale co tu poprawić? Pojazd stal się dłuższy zaledwie o 3 centymetry, otrzymało nowy zderzak i reflektory przypominające większy model Bravo. We wnętrzu zmieniono deskę rozdzielczą. Silniki. Tu pojawia się jedna, zasadnicza nowość. 1.4 MultiAir  ma charakteryzować większa moc oraz zmniejszone spalanie. Aha, zmienia się nazwa na Punto Evo. Czyżby fascynacja japoński trzema diamentami, a może starym mercedesem 190? Samochód można będzie zobaczyć na najbliższych targach w Frankfurcie.

The new three-door Volkswagen Polo Mk V has been officially revealed ahead of the world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The German automaker says that the more pronounced kink in the rear opening gives the 3-door perfect a more aggressive stance than the five-door type making the new component of the Polo family show lower and wider than it truly is.

Other than that, there are no differences between the two models as the body dimensions of the three and five-door versions are matching with a span of 3,970 mm, width of 1,682 mm and height of 1,485 mm. The same applies to the interior plot and shipment capacities (280 to 952 liters).

At launch the 3-door Polo will be untaken in six engine versions and three tackle variants – Trendline, Comfortline, Highline. The primary gasoline choice composes of three engines with outputs of 60HP, 70HP and 85HP. VW said that it is also readying a turbocharged outspoken-booster TSI part from 105HP.

On the diesel side, the 3d Polo will be unfilled with three TDI engines producing 75HP, 90HP and 105HP. There will also be a fourth TDI, the new 75HP 1.2-liter TDI of the Polo BlueMotion that will be introduced in Frankfurt with sales set to originate at the launch of 2010. According to VW, the Bluemotion perfect will be the world’s most fuel-capable car in its group with a fuel consumption of 3.3 lt / 100km or 71.3mpg US equivalent to 87 g/km CO2.

The new three-door Polo that will compete against the Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta, is built at Volkswagen’s Pamplona production talent in Spain. European sales are scheduled to start in October (UK in early 2010).
