We learn that an organized group has its eye on the Karasumori site. Using man-skins to cover their ayakashi identity, they are becoming a problem for our Kekkaishi, who recently have been given help by the Shadow Organization with the addition of Gen to their team.

Story overview:

A ghost cat haunts Yoshimori’s teacher, but rather than let Gen kill it, Yoshimori waits for the cat to find its peace. Shortly after Gen realizes Yoshimori is in love with Tokine. The two boys follow her as she goes off with a popular boy, only to find that the boy is being controlled by an ayakashi (which is why Tokine went with him, and she easily defeated the creature).

Meanwhile, Yoshimori’s older brother, Masamori is inducted into the Shadow Organization’s Executive Committee (Council of Twelve). The council turns out to be a den of wild beasts, all of which Masamori plans to kill someday.

New and improved human skin is produced to disguise ayakashi sent on a mission to demand the surrender of the Karasumori site. One of the oppressors decides to keep his old human-skin, which resembled that of the first skin found. Only, this creature possesses a greater powerful. After making a bloody mess of Gen, the villain and his group trick Yoshimori and Tokine to fall into a trap that prevents them from using their Kekkaishi powers.

My thoughts:

The addition of Gen to the Kekkaishi team makes the character dynamics only get more interesting. Gotta love the humor, the character interaction, the human struggles, the mystery, the side stories, and the great action. Still top of the manga list for me.

Things to consider:

Continued to be rated thirteen plus and targeted mainly towards boys. This story remains free of any excessive and inappropriate sexual references, has only the slightest profanity (if you can even call it that), and the action violence is just the right amount for this kind of story.

Opportunities for discussion:

Compassion seems to be a main theme in this volume. With Yoshimori, who extended it to the ghost cat, and Tokine who didn’t grant the request of the ayakashi. There are times in life when we need to show compassion and other times when that compassion can cause more harm than good. Ask your teen if they can understand the difference and then ask them for an example in their lives. Then ask them if they think Tokine’s decision was the right one.

Looking back…

The plot of leading Hooye away from Nakbin had been quite a cinch! All the townspeople conspired against them but under whose orders? It couldn’t possibly have been Habaek’s?!

This Chapter…

Nakbin had been thrown in prison and was made to believe that the Water God ordered for her ill fate! Meanwhile, Hooye sensed something different while on the way to where the errand’s supposed to be, so he turned his way back home.

Ju Dong and Habaek had a few exchanges and it revealed a little something of why the Emperor wanted him so bad! He is the the sole God to determine who will go victorious in the fight against Shin Nong. He’s interested in his powers and was willing to woo him at his side but the Water God isn’t just up to it and playing neutral.

Hooye however came a little too late. Nakbin has already been taken and he knew who’s really behind the farce! There was the Emperor admitting to his crimes and offered help? And what’s this? He was their father? oO.Oo

Random Babblings…

Habaek’s easy-going ways probably had been the very reason why he was put into the current situation he was in. He might have had declined the Emeperor or anyone else and stick to his decision, therefore, no one if according to the prophecies had been declared the winner.

I’m not a bit surprised if the Emperor is Hooyee and Nakbin’s father the hints had been dropped piece by piece as the volume went. And I am constantly to the opinion that Nakbin is not just an ordinary human. Probably she might have had felings for Habaek before the incident happened and the false rumor might have had ignited her fury against him and chose to plot with the Emperor and Hooye.

Poor Habaek! T~T

Bean NewsLetter Volume 7 Greetings Bean Fans! Hope this finds you enjoying the sunshine and feeling

Bean NewsLetter Volume 7

Greetings Bean Fans! Hope this finds you enjoying the sunshine and feeling it right through your face, into your smile and directly down to the cockles of your heart! Or for you more literal scientific types, the chambers of your heart… though you probably wouldn’t agree with sunshine reaching that area… aww fooie! Forget science! Either way, I hope this newsletter finds you in good spirits!

You might notice the excessive use of ! exclamation! marks! this newsletter… I apologize. There’s really no grammatical or punctuational reason for this misuse. It’s just that I can feel the excitement building each time I send out another edition of this little newsletter. Even Bean feels it! (Thank you Bean for that excessively excited yet well-timed kick to the solar plexus…)

Over this 2 week stretch, we had 2 OB appointments as we are going every week now. Here are the weekly stats:
January 29th/09 – Appointment with Dr. Steele

BI-WEEKLY STATS:

Weeks of Pregnancy: 35

Weight: 145 lbs

Blood Pressure: 134/76

Fetal Heartbeat: 148

Height of Fundus: 36 cm

This appointment was quick -

the usual weigh-in (giant size 9 boots off) by Nurse Kathy,

blood pressure (notice that it has steadily increased from each appointment)

get gelled up to listen to the fetal heartbeat, wipe off and helped back up.

hop off the table then get bustled into the next little room where Dr. Steele goes over all the stats (I write them down). Drag my multiple layers of winter gear with me, health pod in hand ready to spring into action.

Measures the length of the fundus- this is the last week that the fundus height and weeks of pregnancy should be the same. After this, it is not guaranteed.

She checks the position of the baby by palpitating my rather large spherical abdomen. Head is currently downward facing toward my left, back and bum on the right, bum just under the right rib cage. And finally but certainly not unnoticed, the well-developed legs and feet that are in pretty much constant motion just under the left rib cage.Unfortunately for me, the appointment is usually followed up with going over results of the last medication prescribed to rid ourselves of this pesky UTI. This particular time I was not quite finished the scrip so onto the next week’s appointment!

February 5th/09 – Appointment with Dr. Steele

BI-WEEKLY STATS:

Weeks of Pregnancy: 36

Weight: lbs

Blood Pressure: 136/84

Fetal Heartbeat: 144

Height of Fundus: 36 cm

Usual measurements – health pod in hand.

a Group B Strep swab – Let’s leave out any details on this one other than it requires privacy and two swipes with one swab in a particular order . Ew. Anyway to distract you with mind numbing facts, here are some facts on Group B Streptococcus (Group B Strep or GBS). Feel free to skip it if you panic easily. As I’ve said before, Dr. Steele is highly efficient and covers all bases so this is a standard test. Even if it came back positive, it can be controlled by IV antibiotics during the birth. Don’t panic – that would be unnecessary as this is a standard test.

It is a bacteria found in the vagina and/or the lower intestine in up to 35% of all healthy adult women. It does not generally cause problems for the mother, however, during childbirth, GBS can be transmitted to the baby. Newborns exposed to GBS may develop infections which include pneumonia, sepsis (infection of the blood) or meningitis (infection of fluid lining the brain.) Very few (1-2%) babies exposed to GBS become ill, however, any infection in a newborn can be serious.

Supplied urine sample to lab to follow-up on medication. Will call Nurse Kathy Tuesday morning for results. Dr. Steele says that if this continues even after Bean’s arrival then she is sending me to a specialist to see what’s up with the plumbing!

Discussed swelling & bruising of feet – it’s absolutely normal. Just need to lie down more often with feet raised above the heart. I find this to be the most difficult part of being pregnant. Sit still?!? And lay down at that?! But what about knitting?! I can’t knit lying down! I have decided that I need to schedule myself nap time in the afternoon so that I will actually rest and reduce the swelling in my poor deformed feet. They used to be 6.5 – 7 prior to this swelling. Now sometimes in the evening they are so puffed up the size 9 winter boots that I have are pinching me across the top of the foot!Soon I will be stealing Matt’s shoes or I will have to highjack clown shoes…. Maybe I should just lay down for goodness’ sake.

Besides these fascinating factual appointments, there have been other things that we have been up to this month. Bean and I have come to a fluctuating compromise about the space that each of us have. I let Bean go crazy at night with wild dancing parties, and Bean lets me eat successfully at least twice a day. Bean is still blocking food occasionally with excited kicks but now I just get up earlier in the morning and very quietly eat a bowl of bran flakes with raisins and rice milk. Normally I would say that is SO boring if I wasn’t so hungry. If I am very quiet, Bean won’t notice until about 10ish that we are in motion. Ha! I also have found if I continue to stay in motion during lunch, I can eat almost an entire meal. Though if I try to sit, I end up with the first 3 bites stuck in my throat for the rest of the afternoon. Even tiny snacks throughout the day get thwarted by excitement. This is definitely a learning curve having an extra person strapped to the front of me, sharing space meant for one!

A few adventures since the last newsletter: Bean and I got to go to a very posh spa, hosted my own fantastic birthday gathering and finally went on Maternity leave.

Posh Spa Visit: I was generously given not one but TWO gift cards for pregnancy massage by my boss Bruno for Christmas. I used the first one the day before my birthday as a treat. This particular spa has aqua therapy pools so I packed my (pre-prego) tankini with me and away we went. My masseuse was a lovely gal that just came back from her own maternity leave. She mixed up a batch of organic massage oil for me that involved wheat germ oil, carrots, avocado and lavender. Smelled delicious! 50 minutes of specialty massage – she was very careful to avoid the inside of the ankles as this is a trigger point that can induce labour. I personally cannot wait until I can massage out that area as it’s felt bruised since Christmas morning. Perhaps later this month I will purposely see if it actually DOES induce labour. The 17th is a day that has been speaking to me for about a month as a day of importance.;-)

After the massage, I was given a lovely cup of herbal tea that was specifically hand blended for us. Blueberry was the major overtones of it. Very nice! Bean and I sat in the women’s changing room soaking in the atmosphere and drinking our tea. If you are wondering why just in the change room check out the link under Posh Spa. There is a mosaic tile hot tub that is a work of art in there. My masseuse came in and led me up to the Aqua Therapies pools and gave me a quick tour as well as a rundown of which things I could enjoy. Salt water pool = yes. Hot tub = only paddling feet for a few minutes. Sauna = no. That’s alright! All I really wanted to do was swim! Bean and I sat in the comfy furniture and finished the tea, then changed into the swimsuit. (Imagine: black and white horizontal stripe tankini with green piping and matching black boyshort bottoms. Very cute on someone shaped like a basketball with legs!) We swam in the salt water pool for an hour – amazing to be weightless. Bean was quite quiet at that part – I wonder if it was strange for Mummy to be the one without gravity? Or perhaps it was so relaxing Bean drifted off to dreamland. The scientist say that unborn babies dream but what about? All they know is darkness and the sounds of Mummy, Daddy and the environment around Mummy… or is it? It would be interesting when the scientists ever figure it out.

I paddled my feet in the hot tub for a bit, then slowly took my time getting ready to go back out into reality. What a fabulous treat! I will be using my next gift card this upcoming Monday. My masseuse didn’t recommend hanging on to it for after Bean’s arrival as she knows first hand it’s unlikely I will find time to go. Who am I to argue?

Birthday gathering: I sent out a children’s “robot” email invite entitled: Ver. 3.6 of Model#Kristi012873 Manufacture Date. It made me feel better about turning 36 if I put a strategic decimal place in there. Not that I feel, look or act 36 but someone might expect me to be my age all of a sudden which I would resent. I’ve got lots of time to be old! Now is not the time! *coff, coff* Anyway… getting into a rant there. Sorry about that! Back to the party: I decided to keep the theme of the party informal, upbeat, infantile and fun by hosting an afternoon/evening of potluck and board games. My original idea of swimming then going hula hooping ended up being a bust. No one felt bathing suit worthy so close after Christmas decadence and they certainly didn’t feel like braving -15 degrees Celsius to hula hoop in a snowbank. So I threw tiny blankets and throw pillows on the floor and we dined off recyclable plates and ate all the fanciful concoctions that my guests provided. One of the guests, Robin, even brought one of her train sets! Amidst all the chaos, we had lines of dominoes and a train set accompanying you on the way to the bathroom.

Stand outs:

A game called “Apples To Apples” that Danette introduced us to. Anyone and any number of people can play and the sillier you are, the more fun the game. Perfect! Matt and I would like to get that game for the house when guests come over.

Leslie’s home made secret recipe chicken strips. I heard a rumour the batter was cornflakes and a Crunch chocolate bar? But that was a rumour… In any case… AMAZING!

Enzo’s home made Tira Misu, replete with C C and home brewed espresso. I had one bite and realized that I needed to wait until morning so Bean and I could enjoy the full piece of it. Full on sugar and caffeine at 9 at night is NOT a good idea! But absolutely decadent for breakfast!

My guests: I am so lucky to have such fabulous happy people in my life and I appreciate them so much. I love how I can put 20 of them in a room together and not have to worry about playing referee (as I have done with past relationships.) The only thing is, I never know where to sit and visit cuz I want to be everywhere at the same time! Nice to have such problems, huh?

I was happy but very tired by 9:30 that night. I did open my presents when the guests were there but had to go through the multitudes of presents the next day just to absorb it all. How fun! Robot pencil sharpener, cute skull and cross bone stamp, hand made felted ball necklace, Mommies Make It All Better mug, Robot/Anime t-shirt, the grand-daddy of all Muppets book, Clean Green House book, “Wreck This Journal” journal (and man! am I ever!)… the list goes on. All of them weird, quirky but somehow exactly perfect for me! Thanks guys SO much!

Maternity Leave: Well, I am on it. I am having a hard time slowing down though.

Day One: The oven needed to be cleaned. So did the bathroom. And the floor. And. And. And. My feet swelled up then I went to Puppets. Too much!

Day Two: Too tired from Day One.Slept. But found my toes at the end of the night!

Day Three: Travelled about the city, visited work & picked up Record of Employment, picked up some items for Bean like a beautiful cream 100% organic cotton cardigan, hat & booties from Baby Gap (used the thoughtful Gift Card from Grandma Wilson). Also picked up a yellow sleep sac from Value Village for Bean to wear while sleeping in the crib instead of a blanket which doctors do not recommend due to SIDS. All the beautiful handmade blankets will be used in the stroller and when Bean is awake.

Day Four: Doctor Appointment. Library to pick up some videos, then off to Service Canada to file for Maternity and Parental leave benefits. 4 hours later, I am exhausted, grouchy as a mother bear and in desperate need of a nap. Bean cheerfully kept me awake on the way home by showing me the latest drum beat on my rib cage. Napped to a movie for a few hours. Grumpiness gone – lucky for Matt!

Day Five: Today. Followed up Maternity leave application by phone with missing details. Twice. Feel more reassured about the success of the application. Now to wait 28 days for it to go through.*sigh* In order to distract myself from ranting about dealing with the government whilst pregnant, I wrote this newsletter. I successfully dragged myself out of the paperwork mire and am in a fantastic mood! Going to have a quick-ish shower (quick for me who now finds the speed of a turtle fast.) Then we’ll go outside into the sunshine to pick up a birthday card for the room-mate. Then make puppets. After a nap, of course!

Now you are entirely up to turtle speed. In fact, you’ve jumped ahead into the future with me for a nap! I will be sure to keep you all informed as we are on Official Bean Watch now. After week 36 until week 41-ish, a baby can make a sudden appearance at any point. Like I said, I might have had enough of waiting and poke at those trigger points in my ankles….. Any bets when?

Attached is a self-portrait of Bean and I at week 35. Perhaps a little racy in some circles but I find it utterly beautiful.

Much love and hugs,
xoxoxo
Kristi and the ever rambunctious, ever fascinating Bean

P.S. A big thanks and even bigger hugs to some wonderful responses to the last newsletter, especially Matt’s cousin David in England and my Auntie Eli in Alta, Norway (Bean has fans all over the world, even in the Arctic circle! What a lucky scamp!)

Looking back…

Nakbin must perish! But why?

This Chapter…

Mura came to the Emperor for her own selfish whims! She has betrayed Habaek to the enemy and Nakbin’s gonna be a medium to that!

Believing in the prophecy she saw in a dream, Mok Rang told the people of the revelation. Skeptic as they were of such an inhuman prophecy but with just a life to give up for the sake of the many in the village, they soon conceded.

Hooyee came home wounded worrying Nakbin. But somebody came asking Hooyee a favor again hunting down some ack soo in some place. He went granting the request but it was a trick to get him away from Nakbin. The townspeople secured her behind bars.

She learned of the divine revelation that which only her death would suffice to elude the scary fate that would befall the majority and guess from whom would that be? She was told it was Habaek’s!

Random Babblings…

Poor Habaek, he doesn’t have anything to do with this! It was the emperor who messed up with Mok Rang’s dream! The black feathers are evidence enough!

I think Nakbin isn’t that kind of bitch afterall, it’s just that she was triggered to execute her revenge for Habaek because of heresay; a victim of a situation, that is. Let just see how the story goes from hereon.

Previously…

A young girl named Mok Rang managed to meet the Water God in a dream. He told her some top secret which could put many lives at stake!

This Chapter…

Growing into a fine young woman, Miss Mok-Rang, had been trusted with prophecies dealing with water having saved the whole village from devastation a few years back. She hadn’t seen Habaek too since then and how she wanted to see him again.

Meanwhile, Suh Wang Mo visits the Water country to see Habaek. An utterly stunning revelation has been made! She isn’t Habaek’s real mother! He told Wang Mo about some human who’s going to be his bride, the thing which Mura overheard!

On the other hand, Mok Rang encountered the siblings Nakbin and Hooyee which were rumored to be born from a father that isn’t human. She recognized Nakbin as Habaek’s favored one. However, she received a divine revelation afterwards… that woman should be killed!

Random Babblings…

Had this on draft a few days ago but I’m quite lazy to publish it.

So, Wang Mo isn’t Habaek’s mom so another question arises this time… ” Who really is Habaek?” Things really are getting more complicated that we thought it already was!

Looking back….

The Water God Habaek, grew really fond of the earthling Nakbin or so he thought she was and he’s determined to claim her for himself!

This Chapter…

This is the story of a girl named Mok Rang whose father is a fisherman. She had been visited by rare dreams yet she cannot recall after she awakens.

She had been acting really weird, that aside from the strange dreams she was always talking about. Her parents were very much worried as if she had incurred some kind of sickness or was possessed by some spirits. Who in her right mind would climb a tree and forgot about how she got there?

In her dream opens a door leading to the water realm and meeting the Water God himself takes an exceptional ability befitting a shaman and Mok Rang has that. Habaek told her a secret she probably won’t forget all her life! A storm is coming and her father is out there fishing in the open sea!

Random Babblings…

A shaman who has the control over waters…Mok Rang sure is exeptional. What role would she play in the story? Could her ability spare his father’s life? What would be her significance in Habaek’s life?

Habaek seemed to have the idea that human should all look like Nakbin. That’s why he found Soah quite plain and fussed about the most beautiful girl the village has to offer as a sacrifice before.

Nakbin, a human? I doubt it!

Previously…

A slight touch on the tip of Nakbin’s hair caused an arrow flying through the air… and it was Hooye’s!

This Chapter…

Carrying on, Nakbin made Hooyee reluctantly apolozige to Habaek for his instinctively rude behavior.

Hooye seemed to know him and at the sound of his name, Nakbin went to him and confessed why she wasn’t afraid of him. She said that it’s because beautiful gods like Habaek could never be evil.

Fool Habaek, he was enamoured by her even more that he sent one of his dragons with her to keep her safe within the forest bounds!

Suh Wang Mo as I suspected was greeted by the Emperor but in her very image! The guy seemed to be expert in transformation magic that he even made his pass unnoticed into the Water Country.

Wang Mo wasn’t pleased at his flattery and said she wished to speak to the very face of the Emperor. His request is too great to have him call her like that…to surrender Habaek to him!

Back at the Water Country, Mura greeted Habaek home and discovered that he didn’t go to the Imperial country as planned and instead he wandered about in the human world.

He didn’t heed her warnings of how troublesome could the humans be as he is determined to possess something which held his interest…Nakbin!

Babbles…

I’m really grateful to Kay-chan once again for the update! I wouldn’t have found this earlier!

Remember Bi Ryeom, the god of the West-side forest? It was the Emperor in disguise and I also suspect that Tae El Jin guy, it also might be him. He’s so scheming for a god! Curse him!

What does he really want with Habaek? Does this have to do with the severed communication that followed between the water deity and his mother? And Habaek’s curse?

We have had our tummies aching with laughter when we got to witness Nadeshiko’s return to the academy in one of the earlier episodes of Shugo Chara!! Doki, now as Nagihiko!

Remember he managed to trick Kukkai and Tadase to wear skirts?

This is the very extra chapter which tells it all. I’m glad this has already been scanlated!

The Story…

Volume 7. Chapter 27.

Nagi’s secret is out!

It was the first day for the new Jack in office. Kukkai, the former, orients him of his task and the other secret task a Jack must do…to serve the King in all his biddings!

Nagi explains why he needed to disguise himself as a girl and not tell Kukkai nor Amu about it. It was also explained here how he came to have two eggs.

Skirt. One of Nagi’s most hated part of cross-dressing.

He expresses his sentiments and claimed his life’s been a joke. It led the two to pacify him and voila, they were convinced to wear skirts to share his pain!

Alas, but Amu had them busted! XD

Random Babblings…

Don’t you all miss Nadeshiko? Who would have thought that one hell of a lady is a real guy! I missed Temari and her character change! Now, I know why she had to be that fierce! ^^

Rhythm come out in the anime already!

Previously…

It was the first time Habaek met a girl who less fear gods.

Nakbin, is she even human?’

This Chapter…

Having found the girl in such a dangerous forest, Habaek asked her and told that she was waiting for Hooye.

Who’s Hooyee in Nakbin’s life?

I already mentioned this in the last post that she dared Habaek to show her proof that he’s a real god.

(I’m in a real mess right now, sorry.)

He bothered to flirt with her a bit by touching the ends of her long hair while asking her if she’s not afraid of him.

Then an arrow came wheezing through the air from nowhere to Habaek’s direction and he managed to dodge it.

There appeared Hooye who bid him to get away from the girl.

Nakbin came running to him and submitted herself in Hooye’s arms to the Water God’s surprise! It was even before he could bestow befitting punishment on the rude guy.

Random Babblings…

We’re inching closer to unveil many secrets that this novel holds.

Are we not wondering what kind of special bond Hooye and Nakbin shares?

If Nakbin’s a human does that mean Hooye’s too?

Looking back…

Habaek finally made it to the Emperor’s Country with Nakbin and was greeted by a lady called Chunhoo. It seemed that she’s been a former acquaintance of the the Water God’s but to what extent?

This Chapter…

Habaek went down to the human world and was surprised to see such a young girl called Nakbin who isn’t afraid of the Gods. She even dared him to show some proof that he indeed is one.

Then there was a girl named Mok Rang helping out her father who later learned about the mystery of the dragon cloud. Should it appear it would bring rain as it symbolizes the Dragon God.

The last part shows Suh Wang Mo, Habaek’s mother visiting a place alone as Habaek’s currently in the human world, where she was greeted I suspect by the Emperor less his mask.

Babbles…

First, I’d like to thank Kay-san for the nudge. I have been quite busy I didn’t realize that scanlations are already out! ^^

Now, isn’t it suspicious for a normal human to not fear a god? Well, I suppose they shouldn’t be feared at all but in the setting that was the notion all about the gods, that they were fearsome.

Fishy Nakbin eh?

The chapter was a short one and credits as always to Chiresakura!
