i seriously don’t understand.

it’s similar to how WOs in my camp benefit from screwing NSFs’ lives upside down.

and similarly, it can be compared to how kanye west benefitted from making that retarded statement at the VMA 2009.

ENTER. This word has been either a huge encouragement or a great dissapointment for 18 year olds all

ENTER.

This word has been either a huge encouragement or a great dissapointment for 18 year olds all over Victoria today, as the results came in showing how well they did after 13 years of school. Unfortunately, throughout high school, we in Victoria are taught that our ENTER score is the be all and end all of our existence. It will determine the rest of our lives, and if we don’t do well, we will end up working in crappy jobs and suiciding at age 36.

Today I learned that one of my close friends was disappointed with his ENTER score. He needed a few more points than he had to get into the university course he wanted. It made me wonder, how often do we get convinced that there is only one way to succeed?

I think this is a very disturbing aspect of our lives, particularly in our education system. We students are all to often taught that there is only one way to grab hold of what we want: through text books and lectures. Don’t get em wrong, this is a method that is proven to work with many people. But surely this is not the only way that we can achieve success in terms of what we want out of life. There are so many ways to learn nowadays, through many different mediums. It is embarrassing how slowly that our schools are adapting to the technological revolution that has been happening for the last 10 years.

The way that this aspect of teaching can adversely affect students is evident in the number of dropouts and low scores that occur every year. Admittedly, a large portion of these kids simply do not care, but a significant few have been let down by an unchanging system.

What we need are schools that can change with each student that walks through the door. Schools that will discover the nature and learning style of each kid, and provide for them environments that they can excel in. Is that not the true nature of education, helping people learn? Our schools are We have made a start with technical schools and VCAL courses, but there is a lot more that could be done to help kids achieve higher education than what they are receiving.
