Following on from the storming success of VVTV episode one, channel 31 will be showing the second episode of Volleyball Victoria TV at 6:30pm this Thursday.

Victorian State League features teams from the suburbs of Melbourne, through to the Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and to Dandenong. Camberwell Cobras, Dandenong Cossacks, Eastside Hawks, Falcons, Heidelberg Volleyball Club, Geelong, Melbourne Uni Renegades, Monash University, Mornington, Latrobe Valley, Southern Cross Fairhills and Yarra Ranges compete across 8 divisions. Teams compete for the Mens and Women’s Honors, Mens and Womens Division 1 and 2, as well as Junior Girls and Boys.

The Volleyball Officials Recruitment Tour (V.O.R.T.) has been funded by the current Victorian Government Country Action Grant Scheme and will be administered by the BVA in accordance with the terms of the grant and the application. The stated aim is to ‘attract and train/update, both new and existing, officials from across regional Victoria as Level 1 Volleyball Referees’.

The course presentation follows the current N.O.P. Level 1 syllabus, as approved by the ASC. The Introduction to Officiating Principles unit includes some of the introductory comments contained in recent FIVB rule books, all of the topics outlined in Unit 1 of the Syllabus plus the career path available to Australian referees. The rest of the course follows units 1-7 of the Syllabus. Each course is limited to 30 participants. Each participant receives a current rule book and a pea-less whistle.

The initial dates for referee courses under the V.O.R.T. program are:

Warrnambool 14th Feb

Latrobe Valley 16/17th March

Horsham 11th April

Riddells Creek 30th May.

Congratulations to Phill De Salvo, who last week was announced the Men’s Head Coach of the Melbourne Falcons Volleyball Club. Phill has a heap of experience playing overseas and seems to have been welcomed back to Victoria from his career in Germany and the Czech Republic with open arms.
His father neglected to mention it on his website, but Allan De Salvo has been named mentor coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.
