<p>We headed straight up north to see family in Yorkshire, and after a couple of days went further north to Scotland. Our first night in Scotland was spent next to Loch Lomond.</p>

<p>Charlie and I were both in awe at some of the scenery in Scotland.</p>

<p>The next night was spent on Skye. Apparently there were no other people on the island the days we were there. At least we didn&#8217;t see anybody!</p>

<p>After trekking around Scotland for a while, we went back down south again to vist friends in Manchester, Lichfield, Wales, and then on to Portsmouth where Charlie found an English friend.</p>

<p>The 2010 MkVI GTI continues to draw accolades. Fresh off its Automobile Magazine <a href="http://bulgogibrothers.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/2010-automobile-of-the-year/">2010 Automobile of the Year</a> award, the latest GTI landed on Car and Driver&#8217;s <a href="http://www.caranddriver.com/features/09q4/2010_10best_cars-10best_cars">2010 10Best Cars</a> list. Not that we&#8217;re surprised- the penultimate MkV made the list in 2009, 2008, and 2007.</p>
<p>We hate to pile on, but they really are great little cars- sporty, practical, and perfect for these times. With a few bolt-on modifications (things we would do to most cars anyway, like brake, suspension, and tire upgrades), they can be a bona fide track and backroads scalpel. Feel like leaving it alone? They&#8217;re still great as is, right out of the box.</p>
<p>GTIs &#8211; past and present &#8211; have always been Bulgogi favorites (just take a look around this blog), and they only seem to be getting better with time. Sure, we&#8217;re biased (given that we own and have owned these cars), but <a href="http://bulgogibrothers.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/mkvi-gti-edges-out-mazdaspeed3-in-cd-comparo/">like we&#8217;ve said</a>, we still think one would be hard-pressed to find a better German car with four doors at the GTI&#8217;s budget-friendly price point.</p>

General Motors, Ford e Volkswagen foram os recentes exemplos da tentativa da entidade em trazer novas companhias à Fórmula 1. Se as duas primeiras preferiram ficar de fora devido à crise, a alemã pensou seriamente na ideia. Por isso, a Volks estaria estudando a possibilidade de fornecer motores na categoria a partir de 2012.</p>
<p><!--more-->De acordo com o site <em>AutoSport</em>, o representante da VW no automobilismo, o ex-piloto Hans-Joachim Stuck, admitiu que a F1 pode se tornar atraente com algumas mudanças no regulamento. &#8220;É natural pensar sobre isso [F1], mas não antes de 2012&#8243;, despistou.</p>
<p>Stuck comentou ainda os rumores que diziam que a Volks poderia comprar a Red Bull, há dois anos. &#8220;Porque compraríamos uma equipe se podemos fornecer motores para várias delas?&#8221;, questionou. Ele ainda justificou o pensamento com o exemplo da BMW. &#8220;Eles gastaram muito dinheiro na compra de um túnel de vento e de um supercomputador e agora acabaram fechando as portas. Trabalhar como fornecedora de motores é a melhor alternativa.&#8221;</p>

<p>Vale lembrar que a Volkswagen sempre esteve ligada ao mundo do automobilismo. A Audi disputa as 24 Horas de Le Mans, a Seat foi bicampeã no mundial de turismo (WTCC) e a marca VW venceu o último Rali Dakar.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>A Volkswagen do Brasil está apresentando a linha 2010 do CrossFox nesta sexta-feira (27), conforme havíamos informado na notícia sobre o preço do novo modelo. As maiores novidades são o visual moderno e o acabamento aprimorado. Há também mais itens de série.</p>
<p><!--more-->O estilo adotado no CrossFox é semelhante ao do Fox, mas há para-choques mais robustos, faróis auxiliares maiores e novo acabamento plástico. Nas laterais, o adesivo foi modificado e a s rodas de liga leve ganharam novo desenho. Os retrovisores são iguais aos do Fox Prime, com piscas integrados, e há barras longitudinais no teto. As caixas de roda mantêm o acabamento plástico e há estribos laterais. Há também um novo esquema para o estepe, com mola a gás que facilita seu manuseio para abrir o porta-malas.</p>
<p>Na parte interna, o CrossFox adota novo revestimento para os bancos e há inscrição do nome do modelo nas soleiras e na alavanca de câmbio. O painel e o quadro de instrumento segue com as linhas semelhantes às do Fox &#8220;comum&#8221;. O motor 1.6 VHT de 101/104 cv é o mesmo. Entre as cores, há 11 opções entre pinturas sólidas, metálicas e perolizadas. O destaque vai para as duas exclusivas: amarelo Ímola, destaque do modelo vendido até então, e o laranja Atacama das fotos.</p>
<p>De série, o CrossFox traz trio elétrico, alerta de faróis acesos, computador de bordo, I-System e direção com regulagem de altura e profundidade. Há ainda rack no teto, banco traseiro deslizante e chave tipo canivete. Entre as opções, o veículo conta com sensores de estacionamento, chuva e luminosidade, airbag duplo, freios ABS e teto solar.</p>

Imagens e detalhes sobre o modelo serão divulgados oficialmente ainda hoje &#8211; revistas têm fotos por terem acesso antes ao carro. No entanto, o preço já é de conhecimento público: sai por R$ 49.406.</p>
<p><!--more-->O valor de tabela do novo CrossFox é 15,3% maior que os R$ 42.848 cobrados pela linha 2009. O aumento se justifica devido ao maior nível de equipamentos de série. Agora, todo CrossFox sai de fábrica com trio elétrico, computador de bordo, aparelho I-System e direção com regulagem de altura e profunidade. No modelo 2009, todos estes itens eram opcionais.</p>

<p>A Volkswagen consegeue acertar em cheio e errar muito com o mesmo carro. Se por um lado a reformulação do Fox deve ajudar nas vendas, por outro o preço super salgado do Crossfox deve minguar as vendas.</p>
<p>MUDANÇA: Diferente do que noticiou a  revista Autoesporte, o Crossfox 2010 chega custando a partir de R$ 45.550  (e não R$ 49.406). Mesmo assim, o carro chega sem ar-condicionado entre os itens de série. Um absurdo. Com ar-condicionado o valor sobe para R$ 49.390.</p>
<p>Pelo valor &#8220;básico&#8221;o carro vem com o sistema i-System, computador de bordo, direção com regulagem de altura e profundidade, além dos vidros e travas elétricas. O Crossfox 2009  saia por R$ 42.848, e não tinha os itens acima.</p>
<p>A lista de opcionais cresceu. Agora o carro pode vir até com teto solar. Porém, completo o carro chega aos R$ 57 mil. Não dá né?</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Após General Motors e Ford anunciarem investimentos para o mercado nacional, foi a vez da Volkswagen comunicar a injeção de recursos para novos produtos. A gigante alemã revelou que pretende investir R$ 6,4 bilhões no país até 2014, seja em veículos ou operações. A novidade vai ao encontro da meta da empresa de chegar a um milhão de veículos vendidos no Brasil até o mesmo ano.</p>
<p><!--more-->Os recursos investidos pela Volkswagen seriam injetados somente a partir de 2011, ano em que termina o plano para os R$ 3,2 bilhões aplicados em 2007. Eles foram antecipados e incluem ainda o patrocínio da Copa do Mundo de 2014, que será realizada no Brasil. No entanto, 40% dos recursos investidos serão destinados à ampliação das unidades de Taubaté, São José dos Campos e São Bernando do Campo, no interior de São Paulo. O restante, retirando os valores aplicados no marketing, serão voltados ao desenvolvimento de novos produtos.</p>
<p>Em comunicado, o presidente da VW Brasil, Thomas Schmall, revelou que 2010 contará com 13 lançamentos da marca. &#8220;Um terço [dos novos carros] será de veículos comerciais leves&#8221;, disse. A intenção é diminuir a diferença para a Fiat, que lidera este mercado com 22,5% de participação. Entre as novidades, deveremos contar com a Amarok (picape média), um SUV derivado dela e novas versões da Saveiro (Cross e Cabine Dupla). Especulam-se a chegada de dois utilitários, um do porte do Doblò e outro para competir com o Ducato.</p>
<p>50% do valor investido virá da matriz alemã, sendo a outra metade arrecadada pela empresa. No entanto, a Volks não pretende fazer uso de recursos do Bando Nacional do Desenvolvimento (BNDES).</p>
<p><strong>Treze novidades</strong></p>

<p>Primeiro foi a agência Auto Data que lançou a informação, agora ela chega pelas páginas da revista AutoEsporte de dezembro. Cada vez mais o que parecia improvável pode se tornar realidade: A VW estaria planejando o lançamento do Golf VI no Brasil até 2012.</p>
<p>Além disso, segundo a revista, a marca (que ontem anunciou investimento de R$ 6,2 bilhões no país) também irá trazer a versão sedã do Polo europeu. O modelo ainda é inédito no mundo e deve ser lançado na Europa apenas em 2010.</p>
<p>No caso do Polo, o carro deve ser produzido no México para ser vendido também nos Estados Unidos. Já o Golf seria feito aqui mesmo e deve chegar para brigar entre outros com Fiat Bravo e Peugeot 308, que até lá já estarão rodando no país</p>
<p>A notícia é boa, mas só vendo acontecer para acreditar. Vamos esperar então!</p>

<p>Dias depois da Ford anunciar um investimento de R$ 4 bilhões, a Volkswagen contra ataca e lança um plano de investimento no valor de R$ 6,2 bilhões entre 2010 e 2014.</p>
<p>Além de ser um valor superior ao da Ford, a quantia será gasta em um intervalo de tempo menor. O anúncio aconteceu nesta quinta pelo presidente da marca no país, Thomas Schmall, informou a Reuters.</p>
<p>Do total, 60% serão destinados a produtos. A VW espera que o mercado brasileiro venda 4 milhões de veículos até 2014. Este ano, o pais deve vender 3 milhões, um recorde histórico.</p>
<p>Resta saber que produtos a empresa irá lançar no Brasil.</p>

<description><![CDATA[8 years since I moved to New Zealand from the UK. 8 years since I hugged my family and boyfriend goo]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>8 years since I moved to New Zealand from the UK. 8 years since I hugged my family and boyfriend goodbye and got on the first of 3 flights with no idea of what I was heading to. I cried most of the way from Glasgow to Heathrow, but thankfully got it together by the time I got to London. Just as well, as I was required to identify my bag on the tarmac after a x-ray revealed a ticking, metal object in my suitcase. Innocent enough (my mum had given me a Charles Rennie Mackintosh clock as a leaving gift), but taken very seriously as I was flying only a few months after 9/11 and tension at all international airports was running high. That goodbye ended up leading to 8 years away from my family and friends, although I had orginally intended to stay away for 6 months, maybe 1 year maximum.</p>
<p>It was in hindsight both the hardest and the wisest thing I have ever done. I grew and experienced in ways that just wouldn&#8217;t have been possible had I stayed in Scotland. I endured huge insecurities as I set up a new life in New Zealand, based on nothing more than knowing one person who was happy for me to sleep on his couch for a week or two. I was massively homesick and full of indecision, but I arrived in Auckland in the middle of a beautiful summer and I began to fall in love with the beauty of my new surroundings almost immediately. Anyone who has visited New Zealand will recognise this feeling. It is the little country that could. Full of humour, culture and pride &#8211; it might just be a little island in the middle of the Pacific but it has everything you need if you want to live in a country where people love their outdoor environment . It contains unbelievable scenery which, given the easily driveable size of the country, reveals awe-inspiring views  literally around every corner. You can ski (on a volcano) and surf in the same day. You can experience dramatic black sand beaches on the west coast, drive an hour and be sitting on a white untouched paradise on the east. </p>

<p>I saw it all. Well nearly it all. Towards the end of my first year in New Zealand, I took my orange VW kombi camper and drove solo around the country for 2 months. It was amazing. It was also hard; travelling alone even in a country so welcoming is sometimes intimidating,  sometimes challenging but ultimately immensely rewarding. I might have preferred to have someone with me to enjoy everything I saw, but apart from that I wouldn&#8217;t have changed it for the world.</p>

<p>It marked a trend for me to travel alone. Not always through choice. As I have got older my friends are settling down, many with houses and children and marriages now, and it becomes less viable for them to pack up and take off for several months. But I&#8217;m the kind of person who would rather go and experience something alone than miss out through lack of travelling companions. I think I&#8217;d like that to change. The next time I go somewhere new, I would like someone to share it with. For one, I might have some photographs of myself in nice places. As it happens though, I have several photo albums of beautiful landscape shots if anyone is interested.</p>

<p>Como todo mundo sabe, ou se não sabe vai ficar sabendo agora, o VW Fusca foi um dos maiores sucessos da indústria automobilística mundial. Projetado por Ferdinand Porsche, o mesmo da Porsche, teve o início do seu projeto em 1932 e apenas em 1940 foi produzido o primeiro carro(data em que a primeira unidade de série saiu da fábrica). Entretanto, foi produzido até 2003 (no México), sendo que em 1972 já havia ultrapassado o Ford Modelo T como veículo mais vendido de toda a história.</p>
<p>Com toda essa história por trás, esse é um carro que deixou saudades em muita gente e, atenta à isso, a VW aproveitou exatamente esse argumento para criar sua campanha de despedida no México, que era o último país a produzir o Fusca e que teria sua produção encerrada.</p>
