<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;"><img class="alignright" style="border:5px solid white;" src="http://animeshots.org/covers/82.jpg" alt="" width="250" height="337" />Se appartenete alla categoria di persone che, per i motivi più disparati, ha arricciato il naso dopo i vari &#8216;Reloaded&#8217; e &#8216;Revolutions&#8217;, allora molto probabilmente dovreste visionare &#8216;Animatrix&#8217;. Dirò di più: è possibile che per qualche strano motivo, ai più sia sfuggito il valore incommensurabile di un film che a conti fatti rimane il più convincente complemento a &#8216;Matrix&#8217;, ben più dei suoi noti sequel. Se questi vanno tenuti in considerazione almeno per rigore di completezza &#8211; a tratti spiegano molte cose, nonostante le falle di sceneggiatura &#8211; l&#8217;opera a più mani in questione li stacca nettamente, almeno sotto il profilo artistico. L&#8217;epicità tutta contemporanea, debitrice a William Gibson e Philip K. Dick, è risaputa, e il fatto che &#8216;Matrix&#8217; in realtà non sia altro che una riscrittura in salsa cyberpunk del mito della caverna platoniano non contraria praticamente nessuno. Così come non meraviglia che il pacchetto di cronometraggi non si scosti minimamente dallo stile a cui appartiene e, anzi, ci sguazzi placidamente, limitandosi al rimaneggiamento creativo degli stessi umori e sequenze di font fluorescenti a cascata. Nonostante questo, si occupa delle propagini meno focali del mondo in cui si muove e proprio per questo è interessante: file trafugati dagli archivi di Zion, ad esempio, o disquisizioni varie ed eventuali a proposito del panopticon in cui noi tutti siamo costretti a dormire, inconsapevoli. La storia di B1-66ER. La storia di Trinity che sembra un frullato degli scarti di Cowboy Bebop o Ghost In The Shell. Non si commetta il rischio di sottovalutare la poetica di fondo, visto che l&#8217;animazione si snoda su uno spettro di riferimenti se possibile ancora più vasto che in precedenza: il tavolo degli indagati è pieno di robotica asimoviana e protocolli per gli adepti alla matematica di Norbert Wiener, brutali scenari di guerra alla Henlein o transumanesimo per scientologisti meno ortodossi, attingendo da tutta una serie di opere che ormai hanno contribuito all&#8217;upgrade del genere distopico, rendendone la moda imperante nell&#8217;ambito fantascientifico di inizio millennio. Inutile tracciare una sinossi o gli umori di ciascun episodio. Inutile anche cercare di capire chi ha mancato cosa o menarsela con ciò che fa di alcuni frangenti necessari o meno, visto che, se è per questo, l&#8217;indice andrebbe puntato proprio verso i fratelli Wachowski. Poco importa se, in fin dei conti, il risultato manchi di compattezza o se alcuni degli episodi sembrino un poco sotto tono rispetto ai momenti più salienti &#8211; estremamente convincenti, in questo senso, &#8216;Detective&#8217;s Story&#8217; e Kid&#8217;s Story&#8217;. Rimane &#8211; ed è quel che conta &#8211; la sensazione di uno spettacolo che dà soddisfazione, perfettamente in linea con altri totem dell&#8217;animazione fantascientifica odierna.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1756" style="margin:4px;" title="guy_fawkes" src="http://ogolbo.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/guy_fawkes.jpg?w=171" alt="guy_fawkes" width="154" height="179" />Corria o ano de 1605 e um grupo insatisfeito de católicos britânicos tinha preparado um plano de detonar o parlamento juntamente com o rei Jaime I de Inglaterra (e VI da Escócia) porque não lhes estavam sendo concedidos direitos de igualdade perante os protestantes, que sempre foram a maioria no país. Sob o edifício do parlamento estavam, então, 36 barris de pólvora que seriam detonados por Guy Fawkes, perito em explosivos. Ora, Fawkes não estava sozinho nesta conspiração nem era intenção dos restantes matar inocentes, pelo que correu a informação para as pessoas se afastarem do edifício no dia 5 de Novembro, dia das cerimónias de abertura em que estaria o rei, claro está, e os restantes membros protestantes do reino. Certo é que o rei soube do que estava para acontecer e numa busca ao parlamento Fawkes foi capturado e foi infrutífera a<em> Conspiração da Pólvora, </em>também conhecida como <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder_Plot" target="_blank"><em><strong> </strong></em>The Gunpowder Plot</a>. Actualmente, a rainha (ou o rei) vai ao parlamento apenas uma vez por ano sendo mantida a tradição de revistar as caves do edifício.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Desde então, que todos os anos a 5 de Novembro é comemorada a <em>Noite das Fogueiras</em> (ou <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night" target="_blank"><em>Guy Fawke</em></a><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night" target="_blank"><em>s N</em><em>ight</em></a>) no Reino Unido, África do Sul, Nova Zelândia, São Cristóvão e em Nova Terra e Labrador com fogo de artifício e o lançamento de bonecos representativos de Guy Fawkes para a fogueira.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Mais recentemente, e tendo por base a banda desenhada de Alan Moore, os irmãos Wachowski produziram o filme <a href="http://vforvendetta.warnerbros.com/" target="_blank"><em>V for Vendetta</em></a>, que retrata Londres numa espécie de passado futurista liderada pelo partido Totalitário em que o medo impera entre o povo. &#8220;V&#8221;, é um anarquista que dá início ao uma revolução contra a tirania e opressão.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1758" style="margin:4px;" title="v_vendetta" src="http://ogolbo.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/v_vendetta.jpg?w=135" alt="v_vendetta" width="135" height="200" />Evocando Guy Fawkes e o detonamento do parlamento britânico, este é um excelente filme que retrata, embora de forma diferente, a busca pela liberdade e justiça. Uma frase marcante, que faz parte da temática da Noite de Fawkes, e que várias vezes é repetida pelo personagem &#8220;V&#8221; é:<em> Remember, remember, the 5th of November</em>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A título de curiosidade</strong> fica que: a palavra inglesa &#8220;guy&#8221;, que deriva exactamente de Guy Fawkes, era usada até ao século 19 para designar alguém estranhamente vestido mas que actualmente passou a significar homem, rapaz.</p>

<p>Dos minutos de &#8220;tiempo bala&#8221; (bullet time). El sistema que polularizó la saga Matrix, de los hermanos Wachowski.</p>
<p>El efecto se consigue con un sistema de cámaras de alta velocidad sincronizadas y colocadas en círculo, u otras posiciones, de forma que obtienes un montón de imágenes por segundo desde gran cantidad de puntos de vista.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Estamos en un futuro muy lúgubre. Un futuro cercano al siglo XXIII donde las máquinas han tomado el control del planeta. Tras una espectacular guerra que nos imaginamos, los humanos salieron derrotados por su propia creación, la tecnología. Ahora, éstos sólo sobreviven en Sion, la última ciudad humana. El último enclave de resistencia. Un reducto al que las máquinas quieren poner fin.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Tras la desaparición del sol, la fuente primaria de energía para las máquinas, éstas tuvieron que encontrar otra fuente de la que suministrarse, los humanos, a los que habían vencido en batalla. Los sometieron, los esclavizaron y empezaron a cultivarlos en cautiverio. Sus cuerpos físicos eran controlados, estaban encerrados dentro de unas cápsulas, chupándoles su energía, energía con la que mover el mundo tecnológico. Mientras, sus mentes eran liberadas a través de Matrix. Un mundo imaginario creado para aletargar a los hombres, para someterlos. En dicho mundo, todo es posible, pero nada es real. Sus guardianes, los agentes especiales, controlan Matrix, eliminan cualquier resquicio de rebelión.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Sin embargo, un grupo de libertarios encabezado por Morfeo y secundado por Trinity y su séquito (Enchufe, Apoc, Ratón, Tank, Dozer y el judas de Cypher), todos ellos humanos liberados que transitan por el mundo en su nave Nebuchanedzzar,  han puesto todas sus esperanzas en un hombre del que creen que será capaz de tumbar al enemigo, Neo. Al elegir la pastilla roja, descubriremos al mismo tiempo que Neo lo que es Matrix.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Espectacular cinta futurista que no sólo se sustenta en su gran argumento futurista, en clave distópica, sino también en sus efectos especiales, pioneros indudables de una nueva manera de hacer cine de acción. Los Wachowski, en su obra cumbre, crearon un antes y un después de Matrix. Ya nada volvió a ser lo mismo. Todo lo que rodea a esta cinta está en lo más alto de la historia del cine. Obra maestra.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">Spoiler</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#000000;">Durante la mayor parte del metraje vamos aprendiendo con Neo lo que es real, y lo que es imaginario, artificial. Descubrimos Matrix de la mano de Morfeo y Trinity. Y sentimos la responsabilidad que poco a poco va creciendo en el interior de Neo. Una responsabilidad que se agiganta tras la visita al Oráculo. Sus palabras le penetrarán.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#000000;">A partir de ahí, los Wachowski dejan la filosofía a un lado y comienzan con la acción. La atmósfera de opresión y asfixia que se había construido durante todo el film, se libera ahora. El rescate de Morfeo, capturado tras la traición de Cypher, será la excusa perfecta para que Neo demuestre si es el libertario que todos esperan o no. El final, entrando dentro del género de acción, es espectacular, por no decir que es el mejor que he visto. Y sí, Neo es el salvador. Controla Matrix, lo ha demostrado. Imagino que salvará a la civilización humana con la ayuda de su amada Trinity, de su mentor Morfeo y de la resistencia de Sion. No le brindo la oportunidad de jugar con mi imaginación a Reloaded y Revolutions, cine con alma de marketing, que echa por tierra en buena medida el logro de su antecesora, la inigualable Matrix.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#000000;">Obviamente, también se le puede dar un voto de confianza a las secuelas. Ver si han seguido los dictámenes de nuestra imaginación. Si no es así, se las puede borrar de la memoria con bastante facilidad y sencillez.</span></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>The Wachowski brothers&#8217; films are one of those that you always expect to have fun and the give it you. Speed Racer, Matrix sequels or this Bound are that kind of films, the first Matrix is maybe the exception and the best film from this guys.</p>
<p>Bound try to be a different film without changing anything in the base. There is just a known story about the mob, but adding intelligent characters and specially Violet (Jennifer Tilly) the film becomes not just different but interesting.</p>
<p>The other element needed to complete this good film is the suspense, the tension is constant from the beginning, first with good interpretations and later with some good action scenes.</p>

<p>La pop philosophie, c&#8217;est le terme politiquement correct qu&#8217;il faut employer pour qualifier les conversations de comptoir dont il est compliqué de mesurer le degré de véracité.</p>
<p>Pourquoi on en parle? Parce que Marseille hébergeait la semaine dernière la première semaine de la pop philosophie.</p>
<p>A l&#8217;origine du concept, on retrouve les incontournables Deleuze et Guattari qui l&#8217;utilisent dans quelques uns de leurs essais. La notion navigue depuis entre les mots de quelques penseurs contemporains aussi hétéroclites qu&#8217;éparpillés : Alain Badiou, Mehdi Belhaj-Kacem (souvenez-vous de lui dans Sauvage Innocence de Garrel), Julien Coupat ou Chuck Palahniuk.</p>
<p>La discipline recouvre les élucubrations hybrides d&#8217;écrivains qui lient, mélangent, remixent et réinterprètent une multitude d&#8217;influences. Une pensée à la frontière du 2.0 et de l&#8217;érudition populaire si l&#8217;on veut. Tout ce que l&#8217;intelligentsia bien-pensante et coincée déteste.</p>
<p>Hérauts de la pop philo : les frères Wachowski et leur trilogie Matrix. On y retrouve des références aussi hétérogènes que Nietzche, Debord, Barthes&#8230;</p>
<p>La prochaine fois qu&#8217;un allumé tente de vous persuader qu&#8217;Eric Zemmour est un digne disciple de Spinoza, vous saurez que vous avec à faire à pop philosophe.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Before I continue this list, I&#8217;m sure that if anyone comments on this list they&#8217;ll be inclined to say how close-minded or, for lack of a better word, idiotic I am for putting certain films on this list.  With that said, let me make it clear that this list is based strictly on my own personal opinion.  If you like the films then that&#8217;s great, I&#8217;m truly glad that you were able to enjoy one more film than I was (I try to like as much as I can).  But when I&#8217;m disappointed I just can&#8217;t bring myself to saying &#8220;oh yeah, I was content.&#8221;  Anyways, here&#8217;s the rest of my top 10 most disappointing films:</p>
<p>5. Saw 4</p>

<p>So much went through my head when watching this film.  First it went from being baffled at the abandonment of what should’ve been a (proper) continuation from Saw 3 and ended up in aggravation by the last fifteen minutes.  Saw 4 is the embodiment of a sequel that should have never been.  The plot alone feels like something a person who was bored with the previous three conjured up just to piss the fans off.  By the time this installment came out, the games had run their course.  If anything in this film warrants praise it’s that we (finally) got a backstory to Jigsaw.  That said, it felt out of place and, in the long run, just silly because of the outcomes from previous films.  As far as I’m concerned, Saw 3 peaked about as high, if not higher than the original Saw and left quite hungry for its successor.  Unfortunately, this true sequel will never even be conceived.</p>
<p>4. The Departed</p>

<p>While I’ve never been much of a gang or mob film fan, I still try to enjoy any film even if it just isn’t any good.  After hearing a seemingly endless amount of praise towards this film (seriously, people treated it like the greatest film of our generation) and how it completely deserved the Best Picture Academy Award, I only figured this would be an excellent movie.  Imagine the look on my face for two and a half hours after the intro with “Gimme Shelter” ended.  For me, this is an immediate contender for the number one spot on an overrated film list.  While the cast for the film is generally good, no one delivers so much as a good performance (and I’ve become a fan of DiCaprio, yet he was simply decent here).  Jack Nicholson, save for a few brief parts, felt very underutilized and Mark Wahlberg plays what is easily one of the worst, most annoying characters in film history (put him, Marcia Gay Harden in The Mist and Rob Corddry from Harold &#38; Kumar 2 in a room together and we just might have something that makes Uwe Boll look like James Cameron).  What’s most laughable about The Departed, however, is that the ending is like a Shakespeare story: everyone dies!  It’s beyond me how a film with such a straightforward plot, little to no point and completely unremarkable direction has yielded such immense praise.  No matter what, however, Letters from Iwo Jima is still the Best Picture winner for 2006.</p>
<p>3. The Big Lebowski</p>

<p>It’s almost unimaginable how betrayed I felt by this film.  Although I had seen and wanted to rent it from BlockBuster several times, I waited till I was in the right mood to have a fun time.  While my first experience with the Coen brothers in No Country For Old Men was initially bittersweet I was able to enjoy some of it and, over time, the film grew on me.  I wish I could say the same for The Big Lebowski.  I wanted to love this movie, laugh and be completely entertained by whatever it offered.  Two hours after popping it into my Xbox 360 and I had a few brief chuckles and one laugh-out-loud moment.  Similar to how Saw 4 is the embodiment of the sequel-that-should-have-never-been; The Big Lebowski is the most misleading so-called comedy.  More times than not, I was wondering if this was supposed to be a comedy or tasteless chunk of silliness with too many plot layers to be enjoyable.  Laughs?  They were sparse at best.  Entertainment?  What entertainment?  Sorry Coen brothers and The Dude fans, but this is a film that feels like Clerks 2 tackling a story with the depth of The Dark Knight.  Needless to say, it didn’t work.</p>
<p>2. The Matrix Reloaded</p>

<p>It was tough to decide whether this or The Big Lebowski was more disappointing but ultimately, this one was a far greater letdown because of how great its predecessor was.  When I first saw this film, it was a pretty big disappointment but the action scenes were just enough to make it enjoyable.  However, get rid of the Agent Smith brawl and the long highway chase and we have a film that not only lacks substance but contradicts its predecessor and even itself.  I won’t spoil or give all the examples away, but Morpheus’ character and the options Neo is given towards the end are the two most immediate instances of how much the Wachowski brothers screwed up.  And just like your typical summer blockbuster action flick (aka recent Roland Emmerich work), the action here is almost completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the story (even the live-action Transformers films had more relevant action).  After the great, strong and ambitious story from The Matrix, the least I expected was a proper follow-up.  Instead, we got a Michael Bay film with better shots and only faint indications of a real plot.</p>
<p>1. The Godfather</p>

<p>After hearing how much I hated the above films I’m sure anyone reading this will think that I despise this “classic” with every inch of my heart.  And the truth is, I don’t hate this film, I simply dislike it.  But because it has been regarded as potentially the greatest film of all time by many, my expectations were naturally that it be just that.  If anything is a hint of how much this film disappointed me, it’s that I had to sit up six times just to barely stay awake.  What’s interesting is that The Godfather isn’t the longest film I’ve seen but the length is a key reason I was so letdown.  Yet I almost always prefer longer films because they take the extra time to strengthen any possible aspects (The Lord of the Rings, The Green Mile, Das Boot, The Abyss, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End-all close to or over three hours long and I loved them all).  Here, however, the length was murder.  Save for Al Pacino, there weren’t any characters that I cared for and with a story that was equally interesting, it could’ve ended with a cluster of nuclear explosions blowing up the entire world and I wouldn’t have cared.  But again, I don’t hate this film mostly because the cinematography was quite solid in spots, the score was pretty good and the acting wasn’t too shabby either.  Of course, this is a countdown of disappointment, and at the end of the day, no film has left me saying “that’s it?” as strongly as The Godfather.</p>

<p>Entre los erráticos bandazos post-Matrix de los hermanos <a href="http://www.imdb.es/name/nm0905152/" target="_blank">Watchowski</a> destaca <a href="http://www.imdb.es/title/tt0434409/" target="_blank">&#8220;V for Vendetta&#8221;</a>. Se trata de una historia futurista: el mundo está sumido en el caos, los EEUU son pasto de una guerra civil y sólo el Reino Unido se sostiene en pie, manteniendo la seguridad de sus ciudadanos. Pero a un precio muy alto: el de la libertad (nótese, hasta aquí, la llamativa coincidencia con la premisa dramática de <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206634/" target="_blank">Children of Men</a>). Y ahí entra el enigmático protagonista: &#8220;V&#8221;, un enmascarado de pasado oscuro que pretende acabar con la opresión del régimen británico, abriendo los ojos al pueblo&#8230; A través de <strong>una forma un tanto lírica de terrorismo</strong>.</p>
<p>El guión es interesante, por cuanto plantea temas que, por lo menos, dan qué pensar. Además, presenta un acierto único y muy digno de mención: la curiosa y difícil empatía que se establece entre el público y el <strong>protagonista</strong>, a pesar de la máscara que oculta su rostro (¿o gracias a ella?). Otros aciertos verdaderamente llamativos son la dirección artística, la estupenda <strong>ambientación</strong>, la caracterización fantástica de los personajes; la coreografía de las escenas de acción, etc.</p>

<p><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-368" title="v vendetta" src="http://scenas.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/v-vendetta.jpg?w=203" alt="v vendetta" width="162" height="240" />Pero fallan, en cambio, <strong>el ritmo y la unidad</strong> de acción. El segundo acto -minutos 30 a 80, aproximadamente- es un agónico relato con historias ajenas al argumento que distraen al espectador de la acción central. Un verdadero plomazo.</p>
<p>Y lo más llamativo: es una obra <strong>ideológica </strong>hasta el extremo. Plantea, por un lado, el dilema político entre seguridad y libertad (dentro de lo que <a href="http://www.casadellibro.com/libros/sanchez-noriega-jose-luis/sanchez2noriega32jose2luis" target="_blank">Miguel Ángel Huerta</a> llamaría <em>cine rebelde</em> post-11S), constituyendo una importante crítica a la actitud de la administración Bush. También lleva a cabo una defensa de la homosexualidad que, si bien es legítima, resulta exagerada. Tanto, que el espectador se da cuenta, y empieza a sentirse como ante una <strong>columna de opinión</strong>. Y finalmente, la película critica, de forma descarada y sorprendente, la religión: pero de una forma tan deliberadamente <strong>sesgada</strong>, que a la legua resulta sospechosa. Me explico <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>[spoiler]</strong></span>: mientras que el personaje de Deitrich es condenado a muerte y ejecutado por poseer una copia del Corán (una lanza rota a favor del Islam); el obispo Lilliman –probablemente anglicano, pero cristiano en todo caso- resulta ser un viejo verde que gusta de alternar con muchachas de corta edad <strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">[fin del spoiler]</span></strong>. Claro, deja un regusto como de manipulación barata.</p>
<p>Además, en medio de toda esta propaganda, no falta una clamorosa incoherencia: para &#8220;V&#8221;, defensor de  la libertad, la violencia puede ser un argumento legítimo. En sus propias palabras: … <em>that is the nature of change. She is a temperamental creature that appears in earnest rarely but, when she does, she will wear one of two faces. The first face is the destroyer. It is lamentable but all true change begins with death</em>.</p>
<p>En conjunto, la película presenta <strong>un protagonista atractivo y una estética fascinante</strong>; pero adolece de una <strong>terrible falta de ritmo y unidad</strong>; y resulta <strong>descaradamente folletinesca</strong>.</p>

<title><![CDATA[New Classics: Boogie Nights and The Matrix]]></title>

I love PT Anderson.  He hasn’t made a movie yet that I don’t enjoy;  <em>Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love</em>, and especially <em>There Will Be Blood</em> are all fantastic films which contain hidden fruits rewarding repeated viewing and discussion.  Yet each of these masterpieces (yes, all of his films are masterpieces!) has a hard outer surface, a lattice of desperation and obfuscation which make them slightly inaccessible, at least initially.  On the other hand, <em>Boogie Nights</em>, Anderson’s first well-known film (ok, <em>Hard Eight</em> isn&#8217;t quite a masterpiece), starts out with a bang, and never lets go, pulling you in from the first notes of the intro until the final money shot.<br />

For me, what stands out in memory about <em>Boogie Nights</em> is not any of the award-nominated acting (Julianne Moore), incredible direction (coaxing a masterful performance out of Mark Wahlberg), set / production design (Jack Warner’s house might be one of the best sets ever created), cinematography (the two major scenes at the Warner compound, both the initial pool party scene welcoming Dirk into the porn family, and the mesmerizing single-take, murder-suicide scene set at the New Year’s Eve party, are visual gourmet), or screenwriting, but the sound and music design.  Integrating 70’s classics or disco and pop into the soundtrack is certainly not a surprising technique, but the synergies between screen and sound are often startling.  Anderson encourages consumers of the 2-disc DVD set to &#8220;turn the volume up, loud&#8221; &#8211; and the carefully tailored soundtrack certainly rewards blasting.  It embeds a poppy, bright exuberance which remains undiminished even when the shit goes down and the characters’ lives take a dark turn in the aftermath of the decade’s changeover.  In fact, many of the match-cut-audio sequences, such as the one that almost won Julianne Moore an Oscar, set the stage for Darren Aronofsky to coin the term &#8220;hip-hop montage&#8221; after his film <em>Requiem for a Dream</em>.</p>
<p>Everything about <em>Boogie Nights</em> is oversized;  the colors of California have never been brighter, the sounds bouncier, the plot lines more over-the-top, nor the money shots more revealing.  The characters are just so damn likeable, and innocent, you can’t help but fall in love with them.  Even at his narcissistic stupidest, Dirk never loses the charm that makes him so deliciously appealing to everyone at the start of the film;  even in Rollergirl’s most undignified and pathetic, she maintains the aura of a 20s starlet;  even when Amber leads Dirk by the nose into his fall from grace, her confused mothering always grounds the cadre with a genuine warmth  that creates the unshakeable feeling of family.  Even at its most dysfunctional, Anderson creates the most authentic adopted family unit in the history of cinema.  Well, what fraction of it I’ve seen anyways.  Despite shocking cocaine overdoses, debilitating addiction, hard-times prostitution, disgustingly obvious prosthetic cocks, and the requisite long-term rifts, what <em>Boogie Nights </em>gives us is an extremely watchable porn family that envelops me in love every time I watch it.  With the music turned up&#8230; way up.</p>

<p>OK, if you haven&#8217;t seen <em>The Matrix</em> yet you should check yourself out &#8211; you&#8217;re probably attached to a giant mechanical cord plugged into the back of an electrochemical pod floating in space, in the barren wasteland of a destroyed continent below you, mired in your own piped-in fantasy.  </p>
<p>Chances are you&#8217;ve seen it.  And, why?  Not because of fantastic reviews, that&#8217;s for sure.  It&#8217;s because <em>The Matrix</em> enjoyed not just one of the most expensive, wide-reaching media campaigns of the era when it debuted in 1999, but because of its amazing word-of-mouth buzzes, possibly the most talked about of any commercial film in the last few decades.  Within days of its release, literally <em>everyone</em> I talked to had seen it;  it managed to transcend its shoot-em-up-and-overwhelm-em-with-effects marketting and attain a true position as <em>must-see</em> scifi film.  While it obviously plays well to the 18-24 male target audience, it managed to quickly, and easily, permeate all our various social and cultural strata, leading to the kind of reunion of stereotypes I rarely saw in high-school: brutish, MTV-watching jocks; tall, leggy cheerleader bunnies; dark, femme fatale goths; normally quiet, chess-club nerds; literate, chalk-wielding professors, all joined the video club geeks in the near-universal, average-moviegoer praise that surrounded <em>The Matrix</em> following its weekend debut.  </p>
<p>A huge audience makes a film great right?  OK, not so much.  But what the film did accomplish, despite some typically cardboard-like acting from Sir Reeves and dialog that often feels like it were bred in a vat, was tapping into an important cultural moment, the mix of fear and excitement that surrounded the quickly-approaching Year 2000.  It evokes a world at once soul-crushingly dark and evil, and simultaneously a breathtaking vision of our own magnificent, self-made destruction.  <em>The Matrix</em> was certainly not the first to create a dystopian world in which machines of our own making rise up to take us out of the equation (<em>Terminator</em> probably being the first blockbuster of the decade) nor was it the last (<em>I, Robot</em>, anyone?) but god <em>damn</em> The Wachowski brothers got it right.</p>
<p>While the idea of AI has, in the following decade, became far less frightening, as we realize just how complex the task of recreating true intelligence is, we should never forget quite how real everyone thought it was that by midway into the first decade of the new century, we would create some kind of cobbled-together mechanical conscience.  The film reaches deep into the imagination, and fear, of that shared cultural hope and pulls out possibly the scariest nightmare of all: not that humans would be hunted down and killed by our technological masters, but that we would become the victims of a far more subtle torture: to be bred and cultivated purely for subsistence, our own marvellous minds turned against us as a means to ensure our docility and complicity.  The parasitic relationship envisioned by the movie is so frighteningly plausible (except, you know, the idea that our bodies produce energy rather than consume it, which is fundamental to the plot &#8211; but quickly and effectively glossed-over) it still gives me shivers every time I see it.  The film also tapped into the scientific realization that our brains are essentially vastly complex computers, based in electrochemicals as opposed to transistors, but that what differentiates reality from the perception of reality is far, far less than what we choose to believe in everyday life &#8212; this leads to the film&#8217;s greatest highs, the sequences of downloading entire volumes of human knowledge into the brain faster than eating a Snickers bar, the man vs. machine Yuen Woo Ping-flying fights, and the question of ignorance vs. bliss that still survives in the cultural groupthink today as the &#8220;red pill or blue pill?&#8221; meme.  The mid &#8217;90s cultivated a renaissance of the 70&#8217;s notion that we were, in fact, on a train heading to hell, piloted by our own destructive greed and capitalistic narcissism, and <em>The Matrix</em> managed to scare everyone into the wondering if it hadn&#8217;t happened already.   </p>
<p>That&#8217;s what I really love about <em>The Matrix</em>;  it doesn&#8217;t just exist as a fantasy story up on the projector.  It forced us to contend with the idea that we aren&#8217;t so unique: that our creations could overtake us, that our bodies could be perverted against us, that our minds could be so easily corrupted, and all by our blind devotion to scientific progress.  It jumps right off the screen and implants its ideas in your head, like a virus, or maybe even&#8230; <em>an agent</em>&#8230;  </p>

<p>Olá Pessoal!</p>
<p>Apesar de minhas postagens estarem se tornando quase tão esporádicas quanto aos meus outros colegas de blog, cá estou eu novamente para falar de meu assunto predileto, cinema. Como ultimamente ando me enveredando pelos outros temas já que ando meio solitário por aqui, agora vou falar de um filme que estou louco pra ver desde que li a sinopse e quem estava por traz da produção: Ninja Assassin.</p>

<p>O filme dos irmãos <strong>Wachowski </strong>(tive que copiar e colar do Google pois não conseguia escrever isso&#8230;), que pra quem não sabe ( seu nerd sem cultura!!!) são os criadores e diretores da trilogia Matrix, será lançado em 4 de dezembro por aqui e em 25 de novembro nos E.U.A. A história é bem anime: Raizo (<strong>Rain,</strong> um ator pop da Coréia do Sul) foi tirado das ruas quando criança e treinado apra ser um dos maiores assassinos do mundo pelo Clã Ozunu. porém seu amigo é executado pelo próprio clã e ele se rebela e começa a matar os outros membros sistematicamente.</p>

<p>Com essa história simples de vingança ( que lembra Kill Bill&#8230;.) os Wachowski (consegui escrever!) prometem lutas incríveis e lutas imprecionantes. Podemos dizer que é tudo que um filme dos &#8220;ninjas americanos&#8221; dos anos 80 queriam ser e não foram. A direção do filme é de James McTeigue, o mesmo de V de Vingança. Para manter a tradição oriental os Wachowski (escrevi de novo!) chamaram até o ator consagrado de filmes de ninja do asnos 80 <strong>Sho Kosugi. </strong></p>

<p>Para garantir um filme bem interessante os irmãos Matrix chamaram o 87 Eleven, um grupo de dublês que resolve metade dos problemas sem precisar de cordas e cabos&#8230; Eles são de filmes como 300, Matriz. Wacthmen, e Trilogia Bourne&#8230; Confiram o treinamento de coreografias dos atores ai embaixo&#8230;</p>

<p>Legal né? bom se este vídeo já deixa agente salivando pra ver o filme (se você gosta do gênero é claro&#8230;) agora imaginem o trailer feito certinho apresentado na Comic Con deste ano em San Diego nos States&#8230;</p>

<p>Pois é.. Com muitas shurikens e kusari-gamas os wachowski parecem que acertaram medindo bem o estilo ninjas dos japoneses e a porrada dos americanos. O filme promete&#8230; Vamos ver o que dá&#8230;</p>

<p>P.S. Pelos efeitos que podemos ver que os produtores não esqueceram como fazer cenas de ação</p>
<p>P.S. como é bom saber que o gênero pancadaria sem sentido não vai acabar assim tão fácil.</p>

<p>P.S. Este promete ser um daqueles filmes que grupos de homens se juntam pra ver e ficar usando termos dele por meses a fio nas conversas informais.</p>

<title><![CDATA[A violência, meninas, não é nada fascinante / Dois livros]]></title>

<p style="text-align:justify;">As crianças que acham o máximo o uso da câmera lenta nos &#8220;The Matrix&#8221; da vida deviam dar uma olhadinha na sequência da escadaria em &#8220;Os Intocáveis&#8221;, de Brian DePalma. A levada eisensteiniana-hitchcockiana da coisa coloca no saco o <em>bullet time</em> do sr. e da sra. Wachowski (dizem que um deles fez uma cirurgia de mudança de sexo). A maneira como DePalma manipula o tempo e, consequentemente, o ritmo cardíaco do espectador é lindamente diabólica (ou diabolicamente linda, não sei). O troço termina com um tiro certeiro, dado por Andy Garcia, que ainda completa: &#8220;Dois&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Aliás, é incrível como grandes filmes são grandes filmes por razões muito menos óbvias do que quaisquer malabarismos técnicos explícitos. A criação de uma atmosfera, por exemplo. Outro dia revi o primeiro &#8220;Alien&#8221; e fiquei de queixo caído. Muito superior às continuações (o segundo, dirigido pelo construtor naval James Cameron, é particularmente constrangedor), o filme de Ridley Scott se alimenta de um horror que cresce e se espalha sobretudo na cabeça do espectador. Quase tudo é sugerido, e raras são as vezes em que de fato vemos o bicho. Vemos, aqui e ali, do que ele é capaz enquanto se movimenta nas sombras. Cameron mandou isso às favas ao encher seu filme de aliens e transformar tudo em uma montanha-russa de ação por ação, sem um mínimo de sutileza e inteligência, sem a menor capacidade de criar um clima de terror pela sugestão. Qualquer idiota sabe ou deveria saber que aquilo que não vemos, mas pensamos ter visto, é muito mais aterrorizante do que aquilo que vemos. Nesse sentido, de todas as sequências de &#8220;Alien&#8221;, o único que traz em si um pouquinho da inteligência do original é o terceiro, dirigido pelo mesmo David Fincher que, em 1995, deu às sombras a obra-prima de sugestão belissimamente fotografada que é &#8220;Seven&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A violência fílmica é sempre mais chocante quando nos deparamos com os seus efeitos e consequências. Raramente o ato de violência em si é interessante no contexto de um filme. A estupidez de filmes como &#8220;Jogos Mortais&#8221; reside na sua incapacidade de entender isso e, ademais, no fato de investir e se alimentar descaradamente da torpeza e do sadismo de certa parcela do público. Na verdade, a estupidez de um (filme) reflete a estupidez de outro (público), coisa que Michael Haneke satirizou barbaramente em seus dois (original e remake) &#8220;Funny Games&#8221;. Anthony Hopkins olhando diretamente para a lente da câmera em &#8220;O Silêncio dos Inocentes&#8221; é algo muito mais impactante do que as dezenas de pessoas torturadas, trituradas, evisceradas e detonadas em filmes risíveis como &#8220;Jogos Mortais&#8221; ou, para não ir tão longe, do que o próprio Hopkins comendo nacos do cérebro de Ray Liotta no patético &#8220;Hannibal&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Alfred Hitchcock disse certa vez que poucas coisas dão mais trabalho do que matar um ser humano. O mestre sabia do que estava falando. Em cinema, um assassinato é algo terrível demais para ficar nas mãos de amadores. Não por acaso, uma dessas vezes em que o ato de matar alguém atingiu, nas telas, toda a sua dimensão aterradora e nauseante foi em &#8220;Cortina Rasgada&#8221; (<em>foto</em>), filme que Hitchcock lançou em 1966. A violência, meninas, não é nada fascinante.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>DOIS LIVROS</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">&#8220;Iniciantes&#8221;, de Raymond Carver, e &#8220;Olhos Secos&#8221;, de Bernardo Ajzenberg. O primeiro restitui humanidade aos contos de Carver que foram tesourados à revelia do autor pelo editor Gordon Lish, da Knopf, há quase três décadas. Onde havia minimalismo rarefeito, agora há oxigênio, calor humano. Nada contra processos colaborativos entre escritores e editores, pelo contrário, acho que isso é imprescindível. Mas tudo contra investidas criminosas como a de Lish, que praticamente roubou e depois estuprou as narrativas de Carver, alterando títulos, cortando trechos e até excluindo contos inteiros. &#8220;Olhos Secos&#8221;, por sua vez, é o sétimo livro de ficção de Ajzenberg. Nele, o protagonista foi um jovem esquerdista que, na década de 1970, caiu na estrada e passou, inclusive, por um kibutz em Israel. O autor contrapõe os diários do então idealista com a narrativa desiludida do mesmo personagem anos depois. Me parece muito bom.</p>

<p>Now being a fan of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/">The Matrix</a> has made me appreciate the stylized nature of the <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905152/">Wachowski</a> <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905152/#writer">films</a> and I&#8217;ll even say that I liked Speed Racer&#8230;well I <em>visually</em> tolerated it anyway.  I have been anxious since seeing the stunt sequences and training video (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m6e-4d7M08">posted below</a>) that came out months ago showcasing the training Rain had to endure for this film.  I am really excited to see how it all comes together.  The trailer looks to do what a trailer this early on is meant to do&#8230;simply peak you interest.  I&#8217;ll say I&#8217;m beyond interested and can&#8217;t wait to see more of this film&#8217;s development.  This looks to be sooo much better than <strong>The Warrior&#8217;s Way</strong> so I&#8217;m going to put my money on the Wachowski&#8217;s for this one!!!  How about you??</p>
