In the past few months, my wife and I have finally begun our God-given quest to adopt our first child.  We have both seen this as God’s will for our lives since before we were even married.  We came to this decision through different ways. As a child, my wife knew a “rainbow family” who had adopted children from many countries and backgrounds.  I was struck by a short story of a man walking along the beach throwing starfish back into the ocean where they would survive.  Someone came up to him and asked him about the futility of this action, noting that there were so many and he couldn’t possibly make a difference.  As he threw another into the safety of the ocean, he responds, “I made a difference to that one.” That is what we want to do.  Even if we can only make a difference to a few children, we have made a difference. There is nothing that any child could ever do to not deserve a loving father and mother. 

We are adopting from Ethiopia, a country with poverty many Americans wouldn’t even understand.  Some children in Ethiopia do not have parents, and others have parents that cannot even put enough food in their mouths to keep them alive.  We can’t save them all, but we can surely give one or two of them a family.

In preparation, we have been taking adoption classes, including classes on mixed race families, which is what ours will be.  In these classes we are learning about how people are going to question us.  We are learning how people will ask us why we decided to adopt transracially.  They will ask us if that is our real child, and some will be downright racist.  It is something we are preparing ourselves for as a white couple preparing to adopt a black baby.

Apparently we are not alone.  Recently, black football player DeMarcus Ware and his wife adopted a light-skinned Hispanic baby after several miscarriages.  While this has been a great blessing for them, there are now people criticizing their adoption.  They aren’t criticizing them for adopting, but for adopting a child of a different race.  Many of the critics argue that there are so many black children in the foster and social systems that black parents should adopt their own race to help even things out.

I don’t think orphans care all that much about the numbers game.  I don’t think an orphan wakes up in the morning and says, “Wow, I hope the black kid in the next room gets adopted first so that we can even out the national racial adoption statistics.”

I also don’t think that the color of one’s skin should qualify or disqualify someone from having a good family with good, loving parents.  Now, I know that a lot of parents think that way.  I know that mixed race children are considered special needs children because people are less likely to adopt them due to that. That is a failing of our society that each family needs to evaluate and correct on a personal level. But when someone adopts a child regardless of race or racial differences, that is when we should celebrate, not nitpick their decision based on the racial preferences of their community.  Those who are criticizing Ware for adopting a Hispanic child are no less racist than the white and black people who will talk behind our backs when we adopt a black child.

The worst kind of racism is the kind that tells a child they don’t deserve parents because that wrecks some sort of statistic, disturbs some racially preferred community balance, or stirs up prejudices among ignorant people.

Every child deserves a good home, and I pray that every child gets one.  Until they do, the only qualification a child should have for deserving loving parents is that they don’t already have them.

Dallas Cowboys' DeMarcus Ware, President Barack Obama, Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Pittsburgh Steelers' Troy Polamalu with Washington, D.C.-area children at the White House. Brees said it was the only time he had thrown a pass to someone wearing a Chicago Bears jacket.

Times-Picayune—In support of his United We Serve initiative, President Barack Obama and NFL stars Drew Brees, DeMarcus Ware and Troy Polamalu team up to highlight the importance of fitness for America’s children.

Obama joins Saints quarterback Brees, Steelers safety Polamalu and Cowboys linebacker Ware in a special public service announcement debuting during each of the three NFL games played on Thanksgiving.

The 90-second PSA is a joint effort of the NFL’s PLAY 60 campaign, a league-wide effort to fight childhood obesity by getting kids active for 60 minutes a day, and United We Serve, the president’s initiative encouraging all Americans to participate in community service.

The spot will continue airing throughout the rest of the season in a shorter format.

“Through United We Serve, I have challenged all Americans to roll up their sleeves and engage in sustained service to strengthen our communities,” the president said. “For some of us that means volunteering at a soup kitchen or cleaning up a local park. For others, it means taking time to build a playground or volunteering your time to improve the life of a child.“

Quarterback Drew Brees

“No matter how we serve, we find common purpose when we dedicate ourselves to helping others. This holiday season, I am asking all Americans to find their own way to give back to their communities.”

The Saints’ Brees, who has been a national spokesman for the PLAY 60 campaign for the past two years, said, “We had about 25 minutes and did three different takes. I threw him a couple of passes. He was wearing his Chicago Bears jacket, so there was some ribbing about that.“

“Thanksgiving is a time when families come together, and it is also a perfect time to focus on the importance of keeping kids healthy and active,” Brees said. “I was honored to spend time with the president on an issue that is clearly important to him. I was also impressed by his wide receiver skills.”

Ein neues Pokémon Spiel kommt für WiiWare heraus. Wir haben den Titel unter die Lupe genommen und werden hier unsere Meinung zu dem Nebenspiel sagen.

Was ist Pokémon Rumble?

Pokémon Rumble ist der Mix aus Beat em Up und Action Adventure. Man hat ein Pokémon, dass man selbst spielt und kann mit Hilfe zwei verschiedener Attacken die Gegner besiegen. Hierbei handelt es sich aber nicht um rundenbasierte Kämpfe, sondern um Echzeit. Das sieht auf den ersten Blick vielleicht nicht einfach aus, sollte aber nur die jüngeren Spieler und Leser beanspruchen. Noch etwas ganz wichtiges: Pokémon Rumble ist kein richtiges Pokémon RPG und ordnet sich auch nicht in die normale Chronologie ein. Die Grafik erinnert nicht nur stark an “My Pokémon Ranch”, es waren auch die selben Macher am Werk. Das lässt sich bemerkbar bei der mittelmäßigen Grafik machen, und dem recht simplen Aufbau der Steuerung. Man kann zwei  Tasten (die 1 und 2 Tasten) mit Attacken belegen und muss dann durch linear aufgebaute Welten wandern und Gegner besiegen. Wenn man dann genügend Welten hat, kommt es zu einem größeren Tunier, dass man bewältigen darf. Jeder besiegte Gegner dropt verschiedene Items, meistens Geld, selten auch eine Spielfigur. Spielfiguren sind die Wesen die man spielt, die mit Hilfe eines Wunderschlüssels aufgezogen werden.

Wie spielt man Pokémon Rumble?

Zunächst braucht man eine Nintendo Wii sowie einen Internetzugang. Wenn man dann den Nintendo Shop Kanal besucht, kann man unter der Rubrik WiiWare gegen Wiipoints (100 Wiipoints entsprechen 1€) Spiele eintauschen. 1500 Wii Points kostet der Titel und ist damit einer der teueren Titel. Zwar ist der Umfang recht groß, ältere Spieler sind aber sehr schnell gelangweilt, da einfach das lineare System irgendwann keinen Spaß mehr macht. Es gibt einen Koop-Modus, mit dem man bis zu viert an einer Konsole spielen kann, hierbei überzeugt übrigens die Funktion, einen Nunchuck anzuschließen und diesen dann als vollwertigen Controller zusätzlich zu benutzen. Hierbei kann man sogar ohne zusätzliche Controller zu zweit spielen. Dennoch ist der Preis

unserer Meinung etwas teuer. Steuerungstechnisch spielt man Pokémon Rumble entweder mit WiiRemote oder WiiRemote + Nunchuck, Classic Controller soll angeblich auch gehen, hier müssen wir gestehen, dass wir das nicht nachgeprüft haben. Unnötig wäre diese Kompatibilität allerdings schon ein bisschen.

Sonstige Anmerkungen:

Die Grafik überzeugt nicht, die Steuerung ist viel zu simpel und auch ansonsten bietet der Titel nicht wirklich viel. Wenn man mal wieder ein kleines Mini-Abenteuer, dass etwas Länge bietet, spielen will, dann kann man gerne zuschlagen, allerdings ist das kein wirklich guter WiiWare Titel. Alternativen gibt es in dem Bereich auf Wii noch nicht, man kann allerdings man Lost Winds 2 probieren, dass ebenso viel kostet und deutlich mehr bietet!

Colts and Patriots, always the great game fans expect it to be. I think the Patriots win this, though. The Colts have been due for a loss because they’ve been needing comebacks early in the year. I’m sure Belly spent the past four days plotting his ass off for a self-gratifying win over a rookie coach who has been looking pretty good with an undefeated record. You can bet they’ll be at their best when they see the Colts, I think the Patriots drive on competitiveness and the loss of Tom Brady last year that gives them something to prove and ultimately makes them the better team. Well, today, at least.

And my Cowboys are coming for Aaron Rodgers today. Oh, how fun will it be to watch DeMarcus and Jay terrorize that garbage offensive line that Green Bay puts out every week. I’m secretly hoping Roy Williams gets some shine today or at least a touchdown so he’ll shut up, but I’ve never understood how hard it can be to get him the ball. He’s huge! If that doesn’t work, we’ll probably win with our new Wildcat Razorback formation; Tarshard, Felix and Marion can’t be stopped. Might even see Miles Austin’s comeback route, break tackle, and outrun everybody routine that seems to produce 200+ yards every week.

Installing a completely new operating system on your Mac sound a little daunting. VMware Fusion takes out a lot of the hassle, and gives you the freedom to experiment with many operating systems. Many people use VMware Fusion or Parallels to virtualize another operating system.

This guide will show you how to create a virtual machine, using a cool Linux distribution,

Ubuntu 9.10: Karmic Koala

So lets get started

1. Download this free distribution of Linux Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala here.

2. Assuming you already own VMware go ahead and open it up, if not go ahead and download the demo here.

3. On the MenuBar click “File” then select “New…” or press Command+N

4. Since we downloaded Karmic Koala as a disk image (.ISO), we are going to select “Continue without disk”

5. You will receive another page with a few options, you’re going to want to select “Use Operating System Installation Disk Image File” and navigate to the 9.10 .ISO file.

6. Once you choose the right file, VMware should auto-detect the Operating System. If not, go ahead and set it to Linux, Ubuntu:

7. The last page should come up next, it just reviews a few different options you set for the Virtual Machine. Don’t set the RAM usage too high or memory swaps will occur, and even if you’re running a multi-core machine, set it to 1 virtual processor:

8. Once VMware Fusion creates the Operating System, you’re going to see it pop up in a list. Unless you have installed other Virtual Machines, you shouldn’t have any others on this window. I have installed gOS and Windows XP Pro 64.

9. Go ahead and select the startup arrow button and Ubuntu will pop up in another window. Your install will start now, so unless you really like reading boring information about ‘How Awesome Ubuntu is’ then go ahead and step away from the computer for a bit.

10. After a while you will have completed installing Linux Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. Congratulations. Your Virtual Machine will reboot after the install. You will see some command line flowing, followed by a log in screen:

Here it is. Your very first virtual machine running inside VMware Fusion. You can now mess around, and try out some other cool Linux Distributions. Windows can be installed by following pretty much the same directions as well.

Der BGH hat bereits mit Urteil aus dem Jahre 1999 entschieden, dass eine (abmahnfähige) Irreführung dann vorliegt, wenn ein Kaufmann verschweigt, dass es sich bei der angebotenen Ware um ein Auslaufmodell handelt und der Verkehr einen entsprechenden Hinweis erwartet (BGH GRUR 1999, 757).

1. Gleich vorweg: Was ist überhaupt ein Auslaufmodell?

Ein Auslaufmodell ist ein Gerät, das vom Hersteller nicht mehr produziert und nicht mehr im Sortiment geführt oder von ihm selbst als Auslaufmodell bezeichnet wird.

2. Wann erwartet der Verkehr den Hinweis „Auslaufmodell“?

Der BGH hat sich hierzu wie folgt geäußert:

“Das Verschweigen einer Tatsache – wie derjenigen, daß es sich um ein Auslaufmodell handele – kann nur dann als eine irreführende Angabe i.S. von § 3 UWG angesehen werden, wenn den Werbenden eine Aufklärungspflicht trifft. Eine solche Pflicht besteht im Wettbewerb nicht schlechthin. Denn der Verkehr erwartet nicht ohne weiteres die Offenlegung aller – auch der weniger vorteilhaften – Eigenschaften einer Ware oder Leistung.

Die Pflicht zur Aufklärung besteht jedoch in den Fällen, in denen das Publikum bei Unterbleiben des Hinweises in einem wesentlichen Punkt, der den Kaufentschluß zu beeinflussen geeignet ist, getäuscht würde Dabei deutet es im allgemeinen auf eine entsprechende Verkehrserwartung hin, wenn derartige Hinweise auf eine bestimmte negative Eigenschaft im Wettbewerb üblich sind.

Allerdings müssen auch die Interessen des Werbenden beachtet werden: Seine wettbewerbsrechtliche Aufklärungspflicht bezieht sich nicht auf jede Einzelheit der geschäftlichen Verhältnisse. Vielmehr besteht aus dem Gesichtspunkt des § 3 UWG eine Verpflichtung, negative Eigenschaften des eigenen Angebots in der Werbung offenzulegen, nur insoweit, als dies zum Schutz des Verbrauchers auch unter Berücksichtigung der berechtigten Interessen des Werbenden unerläßlich ist.”

Ergo: Maßgeblich ist allein die Verkehrserwartung. Entspricht es also der Üblichkeit, dass bei einer bestimmten Ware darauf hingewiesen wird, dass es sich um ein überholtes Modell handelt und hat sich das Publikum an den Hinweis gewöhnt, so wird es beim Unterbleiben dieses Hinweises irregeführt. Darüber hinaus kann übrigens auch die Preisgestaltung einen Hinweis auf die Verkehrserwartung geben: Gibt der Handel Auslaufsmodelle etwa deutlich günstiger ab als Modelle aus der laufenden Produktion, wird der Verkehr in aller Regel einen entsprechenden Hinweis erwarten (BGH GRUR 1982, 374, 375).

Its that time again where I’d like to take a moment to talk about people far more talented and successful than myself!

Today It’s Chris Ware, an American comic artist who’s created a number for amazing graphic novels and comics, one of which is called ‘Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid On Earth’ which I can barely put down.

What i especially like about the book is the way the story is told through his amazing pictures, sometimes there’s just pages and pages with no words (sometimes you don’t need them) and the pictures just speak for themselves,and other times It’s told through cool diagrams and quirky illustrations such as this!

The book is mainly  autobiographical, particularly Jimmy’s relationship with his dad.

I read on Wiki that Chris only met his father once in adulthood, while he was working on this book, and has remarked that his father’s attempts at humor and casualness were not unlike those he’d already created for Jimmy’s dad in the book. However, he’s said it is not a direct account of his personal life.

It is a really great book though, I’m just about at the end and i feel like i can really relate to weird little Jimmy and his bizarre imagination.

Anyhoo, If you come across this in a book/comic shop do have a flick through it, it’s a lovely lovely read

Not like in these games Runes Of Magic, Guild Wars…. and other stuff where it gets old, not easy to listen to…dull if i may say. Bio Ware btw is one of my favorite companies for making games. Awesome stories now they team up with Star Wars for a MMORPG..well makes me more happy then well i don’t know to much that can measure up to this.

I’m building a new computer just for this game almost have enough money to buy it and which makes this even better!!!!! Is that today they announced that they are now accepting beta. I can’t wait for it I must get accepted if they charge a thousand dollars i’d say sign me up i want it that bad. So as seeing I have 100+ views now over next to nothing maybe one of you work for Tor or know someone. *pstp* Get me in, add in a good word for the nerd, If i get in i will let you all know i hope to so much and if not well this will be the only beta i care about missing LoL. So I’m off to beat KOTOR for a second time this week…I was happy when they announced the 10% off coupon for members yeaH!!!
