These NO DUMPING signs are something we love.  This is one near our house.  It looks quite beautiful right now.  It’s dumping.

Heavily influenced by a toddler’s finishing design, we present our gingerbread Mickey Mouse house and the one it’s modeled after:

Seven Summits Coffee

We want to support local.

And we were drinking some great coffee the other morning, thinking about how it would be something perfect to talk about.  It’s brewed in Warfield.

It’s amazing coffee, and we get to score a fresh bag every week.  What we love is that it’s soooooper good, our friends make it, and we’re supporting local business.

The Corner Stone brews fresh Seven Summits too, so if you don’t want to grind your own, you can get it there.  Or you can buy bags from Ferraro’s and a few other places in the Kootenays.

What other businesses are happening in Warfield?  We want to know.

• Foundation is poured
• Walls are up
• Roof is on

The vendors made the show.

The best part?  You could find plenty of gems for 5 bucks, 10 bucks and 20 bucks.  We like that.

We didn’t have a booth at the fair, but we supported our local economy buy acquiring some goodies.  And while we don’t have anything yet to sell, we do want to share our contribution to the do-it-yourselfers/crafters:  a cut-plan for a legendary Warfieldian Mickey Mouse gingerbread house!

It is a multi-day task.  But don’t let that stop you.  Your steps:

Day 1:

• use a ruler and some poster board to cut out your own shapes, using the image here as a guide.
• make a batch of gingerbread dough (you could use the Whitewater recipe from the 2nd cook book). Let it refridgeration overnight.

Day 2:

• roll and cut dough as per your shapes.  Include a few gingerbread people and a tree or two if you have enough dough.
• cook and let cool overnight.

Day 3:

• build your house.  Use royal icing (egg white and icing sugar), and soup cans if needed to prop up your walls (you can watch a video online on how).
• let it sit overnight before decorating.

Day 4:

• decorate away using any type of goodie you can find.  And voila!  You have a mini Mickey Mouse house!

It’s only the Railgrade, but hey, it’s the Railgrade!  Here’s why we love it:

• it starts in our community
• you can walk it, hike it, run it, bike it, snowshoe it and ski it
• it’s a mellow grade; no more than 3%
• we’ve seen people of all ages on it; from 0 to 90
• it instantly takes you into the wilderness
• you can get to Rossland on it
• it’s a multi-use trail (you might see a dirt bike or quad on it)
• it’s not paved

The Railgrade

Many Warfieldians share a passion for the outdoors. Some have noticed an influx of young couples and families to this neck of the woods, coming for the affordable lifestyle and killer outdoors.

Last Sunday our village was at it’s finest.  We took it all in with a meander up the Railgrade.  You ought to check it out yourself one day.
