Comingsoon.net has posted the first pictures for Warner Bros. Pictures’ two new comic book adaptation films The Losers and Jonah Hex.

Jonah Hex opens up in theaters nationwide on June 18, 2010 and stars Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men), John Malkovich (Burn After Reading), Megan Fox (Transformers), Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road).

Jonah Hex is about a scarred bounty hunter tracks a voodoo practitioner bent on liberating the South by raising an army of the undead in the Wild West.

The Losers opens in theaters nationwide on April 9, 2010 and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Idris Elba (Obsessed), Columbus Short (Stomp The Yard), Holt McCallany (Alpha Dog), Oscar Jaenada (Che: Part Two), Jason Patric (My Sister’s Keeper) and Peter Macdissi (Six Feet Under).

The Losers is about members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination after being betrayed and left for dead.

Shame on you!  Get off the internet and go call somebody you like.  Your mother, maybe, or that friend that you still owe a coffee to.  Pet your cat.  Visit your neighbor.  Thanksgiving may not have the most romantic roots, but it is a good excuse to appreciate what is around you.

Okay, that being said, you guys, I had a super fun time writing about ladies in cartoons, but I had even more fun listening to what you had to say about it.  Jake brought the excellent example of Olive Oyl.  CK brought up Animaniacs’ Dot.  Michael brought up Avatar’s Suki.  Laura mentioned the ever-famous April O’Neil, which warmed the cockles of my nerdy, nerdy heart.

So, Internet, what do you have to say about this?  Did I leave out any great cartoon characters, or any awful ones?  I was focusing on animated ladies on television, but maybe there is some stellar example in film.  Maybe there is some dude that I shafted (huh huh huh) when making these lists, and you want to be sure he gets represented.

So tell me!  Who do you like?  Who do you hate?

And why, friends, why?

Primero, tenemos la presencia de Josh Brolin como el desfigurado anti-héroe ‘Jonah Hex‘ ; y por otro lado, tenemos al nutrido grupo de protagonistas de ‘The Losers‘.

‘The Losers‘ es la adaptación del cómic creado por Andy Diggle y dibujado por Jock para Vertigo, filial de DC Comics. ‘Los Perdedores’, que es como se le conoce en nuestro país, narra las aventuras de una unidad de Fuerzas Especiales de Estados Unidos formado por Clay, Chucho, Roque, Jemsen, Pooch y Cougar, quiénes se dedican a limpiar todos los trapos sucios del gobierno, hasta que un buen día un supuesto agente de la C.I.A. llamado Max les envía a una misión con la verdadera intención de intentar matarlos… Dados por muertos, estos deciden dejar pasar un tiempo para volver y vengarse de sus antiguos jefes. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Columbus Short, Jason Patric, Zoe Saldana y nuestro Oscar Jaenada son los protagonistas de esta esperada producción de la Warner Bros. en rodaje pero que aun carece de fecha de estreno.

‘Jonah Hex‘ se estrenará el próximo 16 de Junio en Estados Unidos, siendo una de las grandes apuestas de la Warner de cara a la temporada estival. Esta adaptación del western creado por el escritor John Albano y el artista Tony DeZuniga creado en 1972, cuenta con un reparto encabezado por Josh Brolin como el personaje central, un desfigurado y amargado ex-oficial confederado que se gana la vida como cazarecompensas y sin miedo a nada ni nadie, y al que acompañan John Malkovich como el villano de la función y la sexy Megan Fox. El argumento de la cinta gira entorno a que, por un lado, Jonah Hex será contratado para dar caza a Quentin Turnbull, mientras que por el otro a él mismo le han puesto precio a su cabeza.

O Rio de Janeiro bem que tentou, mas o grande prêmio do Festival do Rio 2009 foi para o paulista “Os Famosos e os Duendes da Morte”, primeiro longa-metragem de Esmir Filho (dos curtas Alguma Coisa Assim e Saliva), que já tem distribuição garantida pela Warner Bros.

Por pouco Esmir Filho não viu seu filme brilhar no evento. Ele, que já recebeu um prêmio em Cannes por Alguma Coisa Assim, é um diretor novo, integrante de uma massa de cineastas paulistanos que inauguraram uma nova vertente do cinema brasileiro, que retrata dramas de adolescentes. “Os Famosos e os Duendes da Morte” é inspirado no romance de Ismael Caneppele, que também interpreta um personagem no longa.

O filme conta a história de uma cidade em que cada um de seus habitantes sonha em segredo. O menino sem nome conhece a garota sem pernas, que lhe mostra um mundo no qual ele embarca como alguém que nunca mais deseja voltar à realidade. Para o menino, a vida virtual é a única verdade. Mas a garota parte para outro mundo, deixando imortalizada sua história em vídeos e fotos na internet. A partida da única pessoa da cidade com quem ele se identifica deixa o menino ainda mais sozinho. Guiado pela música de Bob Dylan, ele mergulha em suas lembranças até o surgimento de Julian, uma figura misteriosa que desencadeia uma série de acontecimentos em sua vida até então previsível.

O filme mostra um Brasil desconhecido, no Vale do Rio Taquari, extremo sul do Brasil. Uma região de clima frio que hospeda uma comunidade alemã da região de Pomerância, habitante do local desde o século 18.

O filme é uma produção francobrasileira, que concorreu ao Leopardo de Ouro no festival de cinema de Locarno, surpreendendo o público suíço ao centrar sua história em um reduto de população alemã que vive isolada no sul do Brasil, sem samba e sem favelas.

“Os Famosos e os Duendes da Morte” pode deixar um gosto de insatisfação, por prometer um mundo que nunca se vê, que nunca se torna real. Ele poderia facilmente passar como um grande sonho, uma alucinação.

“Eu queria agradecer ao júri por premiar um filme que não é violento, que fala de afeto, carinho, que fala de abraço”, disse Esmir Filho, chorando, ao receber o Troféu Redentor.

Mas quem roubou a cena mesmo foi a produtora Sara Silveira, que apesar de ser gaúcha, não dispensou a piada de que “era ótimo um filme paulista ganhar o Festival do Rio”. “Eu apostei nesses meninos. Até acreditar que eles iam fazer uma coisa decente é duro”, disse.

Além do troféu principal, o filme também foi agraciado com o Prêmio Fipresci, da crítica internacional.

 Neste filme, o público visado é essencialmente aquele que assistiria a “Crepúsculo”: pré-adolescentes soturnos, estilo emo-nerd-gótico, em busca de si próprios, fascinados pela morte e com tendências suicidas (e haverá mais de um suicídio nesta história). Engraçado como a “multidão solitária”, fenômeno sociológico tão urbano e adulto, tem criado espaço entre os adolescentes, mesmo em meios rurais como demonstrado no filme, com a intenção de se retratar a inadequação adolescente, de forma reprimida e murmurada.

I’m glad some people got a kick out of last week’s list of Top Seven Worst Cartoon Ladies, because now it’s time for the sequel.

A solid female character in animation is hard to find.  If you are able to extract their likes and dislikes from their gender (they like shopping BECAUSE THEY’RE GIRLS!  They hate getting messy BECAUSE THEY’RE GIRLS!) you’re still stuck with having to make them look ‘cute’ or ’sexy’, and have a role beyond Love Interest or Nagging Psychobitch.  These seven characters all have a degree of depth and thoughtfulness in their creation.  Their qualities came first, and their gender second.

Let’s get rolling, shall we?

7.  Dora The Explorer:  Love or hate Dora, you have to admit that she is a pretty stellar example for young girls.  She’s bright, she’s friendly, she’s willing to scrape her knees and get dirty, and she sticks to her guns in the face of adversity.  And by adversity I mean cunning foxes who steal her monkey’s sandwiches, or whatever.  I put Dora at seventh on this list because her redesign to appeal to an ‘older’ crowd makes me cry tears of rage.  She went from clever adventurer to mall-haunting pre-teen overnight.  Oh, Dora of yore!  How I miss thee!

6.  Gretchen and Spinelli from Recess:  Recess is a show that centers around schoolyard stereotypes.  In the main cast, we have the Fat Sensitive Kid, the Mischievous Kid, the Smart Kid, the Tough Kid, the Sporty Kid, and the Awkward Wimpy Kid Who Is Only Occasionally Useful.  The charm of a show like Recess is that the kids realize their labels, and regard them with a resigned sort of malice.  I’ve picked Gretchen and Spinelli out here because really, out of those main cast members I’ve mentioned, which are the girls?  Guesses?  Guesses?  Gretchen and Spinelli were created as schoolyard archetypes, not as schoolgirl archetypes, and that I can appreciate.

5.  Kim Possible:  Much like an aged version of a Powerpuff Girl, Kim Possible saves the world before curfew, trying to do her homework and get a date along the way.  Kim is in every way a girl’s girl.  She idolizes a clothing chain.  She gets embarrassed in front of boys.  She hates her little brothers and uses the Puppydog Pout to get something she wants.  The reason I’m including her on this list is that Kim likes what she likes…because she likes it.  Too often animators will create a character that is supposed to exemplify a Successful Modern Woman.  She’s smart!  She’s capable!  She owns her feminity, and yet, she is completely defined by societal expectations and all of the males around her.  Kim defines herself, and while she has the normal teenage tendency to worry about what other’s think of her, it doesn’t shape her life.

You guys, this plays on the Disney channel at 10:30 PST. Why haven't you watched this, you guys?

4.  Gadget from Rescue Rangers:  Some…times!  Some…crimes!  Go slipping through the cracks, but these…two!  Gum…shoes!  Are picking up the slack, there’s no case too big, no case too small!  If you need help just call…Gadget, apparently.  Rescue Rangers centers around some rodents who solve mysteries.  It’s pretty simple.  The titular characters receive most of the credit, serious Chip and goofy Dale, but every kid who watches that show knows that Gadget is the real hero.  It’s always Gadget who makes the machines that get them out of trouble, Gadget who sees through the scam, Gadget who crafts the master plan to solve the crime.  And you know what’s appealing about Gadget?  They don’t try to hide her brilliance behind a (heh heh) mousey facade.  She is just a genius.  No glasses.  No gimmick.  No social awkwardness.  All of the things that are typically associated with the smart girl are conspicuously absent, and they let her play the hero just as much as the boys do, even if the show is named after them.  It’s a nice change of pace.

Aaugh, Gadget. Why does Google have so many fanarts of you having sex with power tools??

3.  Gosalyn from Darkwing Duck:  Gosalyn, put simply, is a kid.  She’s not a smart kid, or a dumb kid, or an athletic kid, or a sensitive kid, or a tough kid, or a wimpy kid.  She’s just a kid who lives with her dad, who happens to be a Bruce Wayne-esque fly-by-night  crimefighter.  Sometimes she worries about him, sometimes she wants to join in on the fun, but at the end of the day, she’s just…well.  She’s a kid.  The simplicity of her character without relying on overused tropes is what gets Gosalyn on my list.  It’s not easy to craft a character that doesn’t rely on a stereotype that we are already familiar with, while still making her appealing and instantly familiar.  She could ride in my sidecar anyday.

Why is it always ducks? What does Disney have with ducks? People don't even like ducks that much.

2.  Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender:  I could take almost anyone from Avatar and point to them as a model for outstanding character development, but Azula is here for a very specific reason: she is a crazy bitch.  She is a crazy bitch with fire powers and mommy issues, and she will eff you up the a, if you so much as look at her funny when she’s got her crazy hat on.  I’m a big fan of villains.  It’s tough to make a villain who doesn’t seem like a moustache-twirling Dick Dastardly or a hulking inferno of unspecified fury.  Villains need motivations too, you guys!  Something has to make them interesting, and worth our time.  With lady villains, it is almost always sexuality.  She’s evil!  What else is evil?  Uhh, sex?  Yeah.  Sex is evil.  So let’s make her very sexy and she can even make untoward advances at the disinterested protagonist!  Sounds like a plan.  Gladly, Azula doesn’t rely on these things to make her a stellar baddie.  From the start of the series, her intentions are clear.  She’s not evil, necessarily.  She just went round the bend several years ago, and never came back.  Good for her.

She will grind your bones up and wear the powder on her face like a fine foundation. AWESOME.

1.  My number one choice for awesome lady cartoon comes from a classic conundrum: how to make girls funny.  Sometimes they just aren’t, and that’s okay.  The same things that are hilarious coming from a man may not induce the same belly-laughs from a chick.  Some female comedians have resorted to giving up their girliness to get a more masculine sense of humor, but I don’t think that’s necessary.  A gal can be funny in a skirt.  A purple skirt.  With a yellow sweater, and bows on her ears:

I think I still have a sweater like that.

Babs Bunny was created as one of the two main characters of the Warner Brothers’ hit, Tiny Toons.  The animators noticed a significant underrepresentation of ladies in the original Looney Tunes, and so when its ’sequel’ began, they decide to split the character of Bugs Bunny into two halves.  The male half, Buster Bunny, contains all of Bugs’ sly charisma and mischievous smooth-talking mannerisms.  The female half, Babs, got all the screwball humor, and I couldn’t be happier about that.  Babs is a tornado of comedy, constantly lampooning the other characters in the show, doing spot-on impressions of pop-culture icons, or just inserting a quick, 1930’s era one-liner into the mix.  Unlike her counterpart, the loathable Lola Bunny, Babs can go toe to toe with her male companions and come out with the top joke.  She’s zany, over-the-top, and endlessly appealing.

All while wearing a skirt.  Who’d-a thunk it?

Proximamente Warner Bros dara a conocer las fechas  en lñas cuales saldran a la venta las siguientes dos peliculas, pues warner bros nuncio que saldran a la venta de dos en dos,  la primera y la segunda, la tercera y la cuarta,la quinta y la sexta, y las dos septimas.

Nell’annuncio ufficiale, la Mattel giustifica le nuove scelte a proposito della serie Movie Masters di “The Dark Knight” dicendo che sono dettate da vendite particolarmente soddisfacenti. Difficile crederci. Basti pensare che la prima delle action figures uscita in esclusiva sul sito Mattycollector.com cioè Joker versione rapina in banca (Joker as Gotham City thug, foto a sinistra) oggi, a più di un mese dal lancio, è ancora disponibile e non sold out (i personaggi di altre serie, come ad esempio i MOTU Classics di He-Man & company, vanno sold out in pochi giorni, spesso anche in un solo giorno)! Le notizie sono due:

- le prossime action figures saranno vendute a 15 dollari e non a 20 dollari;

- a partire dalla primavera 2010 le action figures, una volta uscite su Mattycollector.com, saranno disponibili anche nei negozi americani della catena Toys “R” Us!

Perciò, Joker versione rapina in banca rimarrà l’unica esclusiva di Matty. Il fatto che le action figures avranno un mercato alternativo al sito Mattycollector.com rende auspicabile e molto possibile un calo dei prezzi e un fiorire delle occasioni su ebay. Le action figures usciranno su Mattycollector con cadenza mensile a partire dal 15 Dicembre. Ecco il calendario (suscettibile di modificazioni):

Esta parece ser la semana de los rumores, hoy le toca el turno a una pelicula muy esperada por todos, se trata de Batman 3 de la cual nose tenia ninguna información hasta ahora.

Batman on film comento la semana pasada que Warner Bros. debería ya de haber completado sus planes en lo que respecta con “Batman 3″ para enero 2010.

“Un tipo le dijo a BOF (Batman on Film) de que entre menos escuchemos a Nolan con un anuncio de Batman 3 en el 2010, menos posibilidades tendrá de que sea el director (cosa con la que no estamos de acuerdo ya que tenemos la idea de que Chris ya firmó el contrato).”

Pues hay tienen el rumor sobre la tercera entrega del murcielago, esperemos que sean ciertos.

If you’ve only seen the film adaptation of James M. Cain’s 1941 novel Mildred Pierce, you’re forgiven for never wondering whether the striking murder set piece that opens the film and informs the entire picture was an invention of the producer and the screenwriters that never occurred in the novel.

It was. But it’s a brilliant invention. Even though long stretches of Mildred Pierce (told in flashback) are essentially melodrama, the sequence that opens the film is one of the greatest examples of film noir I’ve ever seen. It is nighttime. Heavy shadows fall over caddish playboy Monte Beragon (Zachary Scott), resplendent in a tuxedo, as he is gunned down in a Malibu beach house. Not every shot hits him. A few smash into the mirror behind him. But enough hit him to kill him, and he falls to the floor. Mildred Pierce (Joan Crawford) flees from the house, walks down the boardwalk, and looks as though she is contemplating suicide by jumping into the Pacific Ocean, but is stopped by a policeman. She talks her way out of the situation and later entices the beefy and amorous Wally Fay (Jack Carson) back to the house on the beach and locks him in, with the intention of pinning the murder on him. The scenes in which Wally realizes Mildred has left him alone in a locked house with a corpse and a revolver and he attempts to escape are stunning, and are one of the greatest noir sequences in film history.

Unlike Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity (1944), another noir classic adapted from a novel by Cain, Michael Curtiz’s Mildred Pierce takes a lot of liberties with its source material. This is partly due to necessity. I loved Cain’s novel, and found it every bit as good as his 1934 crime classic The Postman Always Twice and more believable than his 1937 novel Serenade, which is about a male opera singer who loses his voice after he gives in to homosexual temptation. Cain’s Mildred Pierce contains no murders, just plenty of bad behavior, and the most despicable character waltzes off at the end with no punishment in sight. Apparently the moral tone of the novel was troubling to the Breen Office, so producer Jerry Wald devised a murder plot with a culprit who could be punished, which sufficiently palliated the concerns of producer and studio head Jack L. Warner, and he purchased the rights to the novel in 1944. The script for the film went through eight different versions before Ranald MacDougall’s version was accepted. William Faulkner and Catherine Turney both made uncredited contributions. (And we can all thank our lucky stars that Faulkner’s scene in which Mildred’s maid, played by Butterfly McQueen, consoled Mildred while singing a gospel song was either never filmed or was left on the cutting room floor.)

Mildred Pierce is a fantastic film. Crawford’s longtime nemesis Bette Davis and fellow fading star Rosalind Russell were both considered for the lead role, but both turned it down. It’s impossible for me to imagine anyone but Crawford playing Mildred Pierce. She brings not only her finely controlled histrionics to the role, but her own life history as a woman who crawled up from nothing.

When the picture opened, it was a huge hit, both with critics and audiences. It was nominated for best picture, best actress, best supporting actress (for Eve Arden, who plays Mildred’s wisecracking best friend), best writing, and best black and white cinematography. Joan Crawford won the Academy Award for best actress, and accepted the statuette at home, where she was sick in bed. (Her adopted daughter Christina claims she was faking, but this is hardly the worst accusation she has lobbed at her mother.)

Ninja Assasin es una cinta llena de batallas, violencia y sangre de los enemigos regada por doquier, así que promete tener mucha acción. Esta se estrenara a partir del 25 de Noviembre en Estados Unidos, con la casa productora Warner Bros. Pictures, la cinta estará dirigida por James McTeigue y  en el reparto tendrá a los talentosos Rain, Naomie Harris, Ben Miles, Sho Kosugi y Rick Yune.

El film esta en el entorno de Raizo, el personaje principal, el cual, de niño fue recatado de la calle por el Clan guerrero Ozunu, quien le enseño como ser un asesino despiadado lleno de mañas y técnicas. Un día su amigo es desaparecido por el Clan Ozunu, así que nuestro personaje jura venganza contra aquellos que lo educaron en el arte del asesinato, bueno, de eso es la película a grandes rasgos. Si queremos verla tendremos que esperar un par de meses mas de la fecha de estreno para poder ponerle las manos encima.

Don’t go flying out the window Batman fans, Dane Cook hasn’t been cast as Batman’s latest nemesis for the Dark Knight follow-up. In an interview with MTV News, the comedian was asked if he had interest in any new comic book films, to which he replied, “I love the new Dark Knight series and ‘Batman Begins…If they brought back The Riddler—a new Riddler the way they did with The Joker—that would be bad-ass. I would do that.”

Cook goes on to discuss how he would transform into the diabolic brain-teaser:

“When they were making the new one and they were doing The Joker, I always thought it [should be] kind of like ‘The Crow’—having that dark element but still comedic… “It would probably have to be something in that vein, even though I think what Heath Ledger did with the Joker was the greatest comic book villain ever.”

In other Batman news, LatinoReview reports they’re source has confirmed that Batman 3 will be a go, whether series director Chris Nolan returns or not. It’s looking gloomy in Gotham City!

La crisis económica también llega a la industria del cine hollywoodiense y aqueja al famoso león de la Metro

Son casi 4.000 millones de dólares los que adeudan a esta compañía, que engloba a célebres obras como ‘Lo que el viento se llevó’ o ‘James Bond’. Para mantenerse a flote, la Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) ha anunciado que se encuentra en “un proceso de examen de las diferentes estrategias posibles, entre otras, funcionar como una entidad independiente, formar asociaciones estratégicas y evaluar una eventual venta de la empresa”. Asimismo, sus acreedores han aceptado ampliar el plazo de pago de esos 4.000 millones de deuda hasta el próximo 31 de enero.

En cualquier caso, desde septiembre de 2004, MGM forma parte de una corporación liderada por Sony, que engloba al operador de cable Comcast y a varios fondos de inversión. MGM también complementa a United Artists, dirigida por el actor Tom Cruise. No obstante, ahora, entre los principales candidatos a adquirir los famosos estudios de cine destacan Time Warner, empresa dueña de la Warner Bros, o el conocido magnate de la comunicación Rupert Murdoch, quien controla al grupo News Corporation, en el que se enmarca la 20th Century Fox.

Principales afectados por la quiebra
La última secuela de ‘James Bond’, aún por rodar, y ‘El Hobbit’ son los principales títulos que van a sufrir de primera mano las consecuencias derivadas de la difícil situación económica que está afectando a MGM.

El rodaje de ‘James Bond’, cuyo título provisional es ‘Bond 23’, estaba previsto que comenzase a principios del 2010, pero parece ser que no será así por encontrarse congelados los 300 millones de euros previstos de presupuesto para poder comenzar a dar forma a la película.
‘El Hobbit’ es otro de los principales afectados por la falta de liquidez de la compañía. Producida por Peter Jackson y Guillermo del Toro este film, que tiene previsto su estreno en el verano de 2011, corre una mejor suerte que el título anterior, ya que su rodaje está en marcha. Ello se debe a que sus acreedores consideran que existen muchas posibilidades de que la película pueda ser comprada, aunque bien es cierto que aún no se conoce ningún candidato.
