Climate report warns coastal residents

The Parliamentary body of Australia has recently issued a report warning that with 80 per cent of Australians living on the coast, most of the countries population will be affected by a rise in sea levels, more frequent storms, flooding and coastal erosion. This, in turn, has caused some homeowners to be denied insurance due to increased risk

From the article:

The Managing Our Coastal Zone in a Changing Climate report found every state in Australia, and the Northern Territory, will be affected, putting more than 530,000 homes at direct risk.

Queensland has to potential to take the worst hit with 250,000 vulnerable coastal buildings in that state alone. And environmental groups have urged the government to enact “no-go” zones where construction or preservation measures would not be allowed.

Among the recommendations in the report: The option of “forced retreats”, where governments would be given powers to “prohibit the continued occupation of the land” and the prevention of developments in danger zones.

There is a frightening potential for the enactment of laws that strip Australia’s citizens of their rights.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

1) think or say, "we are just friends."

If you've caught yourself thinking or saying, "but we're just friends" you are probably already in difficulties.

"But we're just friends" are four of the most dangerous words for a relationship. These words are usually said something that you know, rationalize, is wrong. Rationalization is also written "rational lies."

2) thinking and dreaming about the person more
and frequent

Ths should be a loud screamingClue. Do you think that day and dream of your normal friends that way.

3) I'm looking forward to the next time you can see,
and / or talk to the person

If you feel excitement and anticipation, an acceleration of the pulse, as you're willing to get to see this person, watch out.

4) want to tell them first, if something
done for the day

This means that this person has become your primary emotional confidant.

5) Sharing intimateEmotions

This of course follows from this person, your primary emotional confidant. Because emotional affairs can be harder to break than the purely physical, you can be caught here.

6) Sharing intimate problems

Especially dangerous if you share it, problems in your marriage or relationship with this other person.

7) You believe that this person understands you
much more than your spouse

Of course, it looks like it. This isPart of the illusion of the affair. This belief does not make you and your partner to the other person.

   Keeping secrets and covering up

Secrets bond two people together against a third person.

9) Giving gifts you do not normally give a
Friend

Things to wear, jewelry and other intimate gifts come with a message: We are very close.

10) spend more time alone

I've heard so many people tell me that this was theone, that it is pushed over the edge. They had promised that nothing would happen, but the temptation and abailablity time was alone provide too much resistance.

Recently I was reading one of the wonderful psalms of praise and thanksgiving, and all of a sudden t

Recently I was reading one of the wonderful psalms of praise and thanksgiving, and all of a sudden there was a shift in mood and tone. From thankful and joyful it suddenly became an ominous warning. It sounded an alarm about a spiritual health condition that God warns us about throughout the Bible: the hardening of the heart.

The Psalm I was reading is actually quoted in the New Testament in Hebrews 3:7-8. There the author of Hebrews is showing parallels between Moses and Jesus Christ, and of course making the point that the Son of God is more glorious than His servant Moses. But also notice the parallel between the Israelites heading for the Promised Land and Christians today headed for God’s Kingdom:

“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness.’”

The ancient Israelites, as typical of all of us human beings, grumbled. They worried, they feared, they didn’t remember what God had done—they disbelieved that God could take care of their real needs for food and water or that He could give them the Promised Land—the land of rest He had promised. They rebelled when they heard about the giants in the land. They disbelieved and disobeyed.

So they didn’t get to enter that rest, as it says in verse 11. They looked downward, at their own needs and the harsh desert, when they should have looked up to see and remember what God had done.

Do we look down and just see our problems, maybe just one set of footprints in the sand?

What about us? Do we look down and just see our problems, our challenges, maybe just one set of footprints in the sand and feel all alone? If we allow Satan to get the better of us and our focus turns inward and downward, we are also in danger of hardening of the heart. Like hardening of the arteries, it can happen over time and we might not even notice it. But when a trial comes, it can cause an unexpected spiritual heart attack.

What’s a solution to this? Let’s look back at the Psalm that Hebrews 3 quotes from. Psalm 95 has two distinct sections with two distinct moods. Verses 7-11 have the somber warning that is quoted in Hebrews. But verse 1 through the first part of verse 7 is joyful and uplifting! And I think we can find clues about how to avoid the hardening of the heart it warns of.

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms” (Psalm 95:1-2).

Recognizing that He is the Rock of salvation includes remembering what He has done in the past, strengthening our Christian faith and hope.

Coming before His presence means looking up! It means focusing on God and what He has done, rather than on myself, my problems and what He hasn’t done for me yet. As an elderly gentleman in our congregation says, the hardest thing to do is to be a Christian, and the second hardest thing is to wait on God. God is teaching us patience and tenacity and endurance.

Verse 2 also mentions “thanksgiving”—the reasonable result of remembering the incredible mercy, blessings and promises of God. All these make the joy in our singing and praise real and growing.

So I think Psalm 95 is constructed this way, with encouragement to praise and thank God first, then the warning to avoid disbelief and hardening of our hearts, so that we can see the connection. If we “come before His presence with thanksgiving” and “shout joyfully to Him with psalms,” we will be focusing on Him, remembering His blessings, believing what He has promised. We’ll be exercising our hearts, and they won’t become hardened.

So let’s use this season of Thanksgiving to remind ourselves what God has done, to look up to Him with praise and thanksgiving and to believe and obey. Then we can avoid the hardness of heart, and enter His rest—the wonderful promised Kingdom of God!

The apostle Paul ends the book of Romans with the longest list of greetings he sends in any of his l

The apostle Paul ends the book of Romans with the longest list of greetings he sends in any of his letters. While there are scholarly disagreements about why this may be, the list serves as a declaration of relationship “yet to be” since the apostle–while he may know several people who are a part of the church in Rome–has yet to visit there. His hope in writing this letter, which contains his most systematic teaching on the doctrine of salvation, is that it will encourage the church at Rome to assist him in further mission plans to travel to Spain (1.15; 15.23-29). So as he comes to the end of his epistle, he mentions at least twenty-seven people by name, different in role, rank, race and gender. He reminds them that, this side of heaven, all endings are only new beginnings.

What does the apostle Paul do here? First, he commends (vv. 1-16). He starts the passage by mentioning Phoebe, who is the bearer of this letter to the church in Rome. The text literally says he “speaks well of her,” for several reasons including the fact that she is: a sister in the faith (relationship), a servant (ministering), a saint (holy one, made so by the redeeming power of God) and a great help to many (self-less). He also commends others like Priscilla and Aquilla, who are called “fellow-workers” (colleagues in the Gospel) and risk-takers (trusting in God as they put their own lives on the line for Paul). By implication, he wants to commend the church at Rome to others he may later meet because of their willingness to help him on the way to Spain, too. He suggests that encouragement and commendation is one of the best gifts we can give to others.

Second, he warns (vv. 17-20). He turns his attention to the concerns he has for the church at Rome to “be alert, on guard” in the days ahead. He is convinced their commitment will be challenged and tested. He warns them against false teachers (they will be those who cause divisions and put obstacles in the paths of others); against perceptions (are you serving self as these false teachers are or do you desire to be known for your obedience); in principle (be wise in what’s good; innocent (pure) concerning evil); and, in recognition of your opponent (the Devil, not the church down the street or the Recreation Department that plans soccer leagues on Sunday mornings). Our lives are to be wrapped up in love and accountability to others, so Paul warns them to watch out and keep away from these things that will destroy them.

Third, he refers (vv. 21-33). He mentions eight individuals who are with him as he writes from Corinth to the church at Rome. Part of his point in doing this is to remind them that there are others in the family of faith, key leaders who are also willing and able to help assist them on their faith journey. He specifically mentions “fellow workers” like Timothy, who are skilled in service (Tertius), hospitality (Gaius) and opening doors of opportunity within the city (Erastus). By referring them to others, Paul reminds them that different people help us grow in different ways.

Finally, he prays (vv. 24-27). His glorious benediction in these verses declare to them an everlasting truth: God is able! He establishes (strengthens and stabilizes) them. How, you ask? Paul says it is on the basis of the Good News of God, given and proclaimed; it is on the basis of the continually unfolding revelation of God and His will; and, it is on the basis of the entirety of God’s Word. Our Father’s desire is for all to be obedient to the faith. In this prayer, the apostle reminds us that prayer is not the only thing we can do; it’s the best thing we can do.

So, endings are NEVER the final word in a relationship built on Christ. Rather, they merely move us on to the next stage or season in our life together…now and for all eternity. Experience His grace (v. 24) and bring glory to His name (v. 27). And to that, I, like the apostle, would add my “Amen;” let it be, Lord Jesus.

Bernard Cornwell’s name is fitting, because it begins with a B, and his books are built around the t

Bernard Cornwell’s name is fitting, because it begins with a B, and his books are built around the three B’s: Bitches, Beer, and Battle. If we dare be more callous, we can easily translate this triad to reflect Cornwell’s surname, thus rendered: Cunts, Cups, and Combat. Obviously, Cornwell writes books for men, and suffice to say that if I saw a woman reading a Sharpe novel, I’d call her an impostor and a spy – unless she were a lesbian orc. Except, that would be even more suspicious.

Now shut your face and read one of Cornwell’s books before you disdain my sexual profiling; mighty fast you’ll see what I’m talking about. His fantastic storytelling abilities may win over some lesbian orcs, but at heart his novels are about killing and fucking, and these two activities are done by men to men and men to women, respectively; and consequently, I have no doubts that the novels will appeal primarily to dudes. At first blush this may seem prejudicial, but on sober reflection it becomes apparent that Cornwell’s work is the ineluctable male counterpart of chick lit – dick lit, if you will.

I’ll remind you again to fuck off before you, in your wellspring of infinite tolerance, rage against my obscenity. The Pale Horseman, the second book of the Saxon Stories, kicks off with the protagonist riding away from a bloody victory on the battlefield to “plough” his wife, whom he insists is “a good field to plough.” I’ll tell you right now, there’s a lot of plowing in Cornwell’s books, and he doesn’t write about farmers – except to say that their fields will be fertilized by the enemy’s blood. Whether or not Cornwell intends to, he glorifies this shit, and despite the fact that war and sexual subjugation are unqualifiedly wrong, Cornwell is such a damned good storyteller that, in the heat of the read, it becomes near impossible to resist the Hobbesian heteronormative imperative and get swept away in a torrent of the three B’s and/or C’s.

Wut?

But despite the iniquity of Cornwell’s worlds – which, we should not forget, are historical, rather than purely fictive, worlds – his books give me great satisfaction. They’re entertainment – entertainment well done, I should add – and they need to be approached with all the enlightenment of the modern age to prevent oneself from becoming a beast through the consumption of their delights.

So take this as both warning and laudation. Whatever desires they might stir in my primal heart, I know that Cornwell’s heroes – who are killers and adulterers all – are bad men, and I caution you to remember that. But if you want a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat and fill you from top to bottom with murderous, rapacious, and unshakeable passion, pick up a Cornwell. And pick one up for me, too, because I’m nearly done Enemy of God.

Timco Worldwide Inc. issuance of a voluntary recall of Large Seedless Watermelons because of possible health risk

Davis, CA – November 22, 2009 – Timco Worldwide Inc. is recalling a limited number of its Large Seedless Watermelons because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this occurrence. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The Large Seedless Watermelons included in this voluntary recall were distributed to select grocers, wholesalers and processors in California and Texas. The Large Seedless Watermelons are stickered with the “MelonUp!” label with the PLU (Price Look Up) # 4032 and UPC # 0 33383 40240 6. The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing, by a distribution company, which revealed the presence of Salmonella on the outside rind of a melon randomly selected for testing. Timco Worldwide Inc. elected to exercise an abundance of caution and initiate the recall in the interest of public health. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this occurrence. Consumers who have purchased Large Seedless Watermelons in the markets noted above (with the MelonUp! label) are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-530-757-1000 press “4” for Food Safety. (Hours of business: Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM PST). As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, Timco Worldwide Inc recommends that fresh melons are washed before cutting and/or consuming them.

DNR-DNR-DNR Do the animals a favor and cross post.

While working feverishly to save Floyd Co. GA animals, I have had the
misfortune to be duped by several so-called rescues. I have had a
total of 20 dogs abandoned by these rescues, and have spent thousands
of my own money cleaning up their messes.

The most recent one abandoned 5 dogs, denied vet care for a sick dog -
he died, and said she didn't consider the animals hers, because I
wouldn't help drive the dogs to Indiana.

These people are obviously not dependable, and have cost me greatly.
If you want to work with these people, do so at your own risk but,
please don't risk the animals. They will be abandoned. Connie in

You may or may not have read yet about the storm surge of opinion concerning Harlequin. Essentially, one of the largest US book publishers has moved from publishing worthy books to extracting money from hopeful ‘authors’ through a so-called self-publishing scheme.

There’s a lot being said, so I’ll link to it here:

Ashley Grayson Literary Agency
Ripping Ozzie Reads
Jackie Kessler
John Scalzi

The rule is that money flows from a publisher to an author. If it’s the other way around, they are not a publisher and you are not an author.

Be an author, don’t be a sucker.

Just a heads up for everyone regarding the latest in Visa fraud. Royal Bank received this communication about the newest scam. This is happening in southern Alberta right now and moving.

This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want..

Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.

This information is worth reading.. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you’ll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from ‘VISA’, and I was called on Thursday from ‘MasterCard’.

The scam works like this:

Person calling says – ‘This is (name), and I’m calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I’m calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona ?’ When you say ‘No’, the caller continues with, ‘Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?’ You say ‘yes’.

The caller continues – ‘I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. ‘Do you need me to read it again?’

Here’s the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works – The caller then says, ‘I need to verify you are in possession of your card’. He’ll ask you to ‘turn your card over and look for some numbers’. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he’ll say, ‘That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?’

After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, ‘Don’t hesitate to call back if you do’, and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number.. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don’t give it to them. Instead, tell them you’ll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.

The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you’re receiving a credit; however, by the time you get your statement you’ll see charges for purchases you didn’t make, and by then it’s almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a ‘Jason Richardson of MasterCard’ with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn’t let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain , and so on through the above routine.

It appears that this Is a very active scam, and evidently quite successful.

Pass this on to all your family and friends

EXPERTS have sent out a warning to Brits buying DIY botox kits online and injecting themselves with the drug.

Injecting the wrinkle smoothing jab can cause paralysis and blindness.

Figures show a rising number of Brits in the recession are using cheaper homekits, costing around £100 rather than spending £250-£300 for surgery treatment.

Buyers learn how to inject themselves using crude injection sheets or by following videos posted online.

Gwen Davies of the Clinic group Transform, based in Manchester said: “Buying botox off the internet is very dangerous, bypassing the procedures which are in place to protect the public.”

In the UK, Botox is a prescription-only drug but can be bought from internet sites, mainly in Russia and the Far East.

Online Pharmacy Escrow is a Canada based drug store also selling Botox online.

When internet was start to spread, few years before, a new era in communication started.
And when the connection speed went from the humble dial up to 20 and 50 Mbps the web
became the No1 platform which people use to exchange information, ideas and to
communicate.
The web, like everything else in this world is just an instrument.
Like a pencil,in good hands can write good things and in bad hands can destroy lifes
or even be a lethal weapon by sticking it in someones eye and kill him.
Myself I love to communicate. And internet gives me that possibility.
Within some clicks I can travel around the world, see, speak with people that in any
other case wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet and speak with.

And here my personal story starts…

I was a fanatic about being single and never thought to get married and sacrifice my private space (mental and physical) ! I was messing around, flirting, having short type of relationship with women and after the end of each affair I was more certain that the best way is my way.Internet provided me the chance to meet women from other countries. See differences in cultures and at the same moment to taste something else…

But, one day, in a simple twist of luck, clicking by accident another link from what I
was ready to click, that mistake proved to be the best thing that happen
to my life so far.

Because that faith’s game was the opportunity to meet my souls other half.
Her name, Branka ! My Branka !

I start to speak with her,we continue to communicate more and more often and every time I was feeling more close to her. And although I was inviting girls here, with her, after 4,5 months of speanding hours everyday, talking on skype, I saint to myself,
You must GO and meet HER !She is special.
Don’t waste that opportunity that out of a sudden knocking on your door.
And I did !

I took my vacation days and I drive my car the 900 km that was separating us.
Together all these months with the help from the web,900 km apart in real life !
And I went there, in her country. And I met her in person.
Not that I didn’t knew her.
I knew every inch of her heart, every molecule of her soul.
I knew how she things about thinks,her fears,her dreams…
I knew all about that even before she describes them.
Many times I catch myself speaking about these things and she was just
confirming me !
Magical, totally magical !
But I had to see it with my own eyes! I had to live it !
To check it if I must put it this way !
And it was exactly as I was think it will be.
It was more ! Beyond my expectations !

In my eyes she is perfect.
She is the most magnificent living creature !
The most beautiful and cute girl that ever walked on that planet !
I think of her and I feel happy and alive !
I think that she loves me and that gives me power !
She says that she loves me and make me feel like superman !
I think of her and that makes me want to become better person !

Then I had to leave. Horrible feeling…
But things was on a route !
And then she manage to came !
And we spend more time together.
And even that my car’s engine just die while she was here,I didn’t care.
Although I loved my car.
Because what I have found in that girl’s soul can’t compare with anything
that exist in this world.
Then she had to leave. And the feeling was more terrible this time….
But I love her and she loves me!
And the decision had been made from the time I felt that I love her, from
the time that I just knew that everything I feel about her is genuine
and true !

So, despite the distance, despite the language problem, despite that
my sister has some arguments,
(because in her mind we didn't spend more time together)
I don't care !
Because I know everything that I have to know!
I have seen inside her eyes,I have travel inside her soul!
And what I know most is that she is my soul's other half.

She is the person who made me change my way of thinking.
The girl that made me make a U turn in my way of life.
I just imagine us together, having 1-2 brankoulinias to run
inside the house, growing older and watching them grow bigger….
I can’t ask for anything else !

And all this time that I was waiting to collect documents and translate
them etc etc, we have to fight with distance problem.
And this waiting game when you have to deal also with distance, can be
very tricky, trust me.

Especially when you have to relay on internet services, actually to virtual world.
Even when you try to use them properly something might happen that will create misunderstandings.
But, you can’t have the dog fed and the pie in one piece.
And the conclusion is that……
Internet is nice, internet is cool, internet connects people !
