Ok, I hope everyone had a fun Thanksgiving weekend and if you did the Black Friday shopping (I do no

Ok, I hope everyone had a fun Thanksgiving weekend and if you did the Black Friday shopping (I do not.) I hope you got all the deals you wanted. I shop about two days before Christmas or after. I know bah hum bug I am. No we usually save our money to do a family trip in Feb or March. So I usually only buy a few movies for a family Christmas gift and a very small gift for each kid.

So here was the story I forgot to tell you all. When I went to get the internal ultrasound on my uterus my 12-year-old son went to deliver some boy scout popcorn he stopped at a friend house and she asked him how I was going. He told her I was having an ultrasound because he thought I was pregnant. Next thing we know Denny’s Sister is calling and yelling at him about him being a papa again when he is supposedly fixed. Denny’s mom got mad because we laughed about it, she said we didn’t need rumors spread, the only bad part is it’s his own family that spreads them.

Sorry, I’ve been out running errands for Denny and delivering popcorn. I stopped at the clinic to deliver to my doctor and cousin that work there and I had them prick my finger because I’m starting what I am hoping is my monthly cycle. My number has gone down from 11.1 to 10.7 and I’m taking my iron. They want me to come back in on Friday for another finger stick.

Only his love can free her.

Former special ops agent CHASE NOBLE has been searching his whole life for the place where he belongs. As a descendant of Fae, he senses fate has more in store for him. And he will not rest until he discovers what his true purpose is. When he travels back in time to medieval Scotland, he discovers his mission is to save a beautiful woman — the same woman he is destined to be with.

CHRISTIANA MacDOWYLT possesses the gift of foresight. Now she must rely on the magic of a Faerie to transport him to the past. And when Christiana finally meets Chase, the sparks between them set off a smoldering desire. But will the magic that brought them together also tear them apart?

MY THOUGHTS:

WARRIOR REBORN by Melissa Mayhue is an exciting Medieval Scottish Time-travel.Book 3 in the “Warrior’s” series, but can be read as a stand alone, with re-appearing characters. See, “Warrior’s Redemption” and an e-book novella “Warrior’s Last Gift”. Filled with Fae,magic, mysticism,Scottish legend, emotional turmoil,time-travel,secrets,danger,love,and passion. Follow Special Ops agent, Chase Noble and Medieval captive seer Scottish lass, Christina MacDowylt, on a adventure of danger and magic.Chase comes from the future to 1294 Scotland,to find is destiny, what he finds is a place to belong, magic and love. Being a descendant of Fae, he feels fate has more in store for him,and he must discover what that is. Christina, is a seer hold captive by her evil half brother, and knows her time is growing short, her visions has shown her a warrior from the future will rescue her. But if he doesn’t come soon he may be to late. Fast paced and action packed with strong characters, page turning action, gripping passion, and an intriguing plot. A must read for any one who enjoys time-travel,Scotland,magic,Scottish myths, and legends. I enjoy this author’s Scottish Highlanders, you can not go wrong with “Warrior Reborn”. Another hit for Ms. Mayhue. Received for an honest review from the publisher.Details can be found at the author’s website,Pocket Books,an imprint of Simon & Schuster, and My Book Addiction and More.

Synopsis: Elesyria, a staunch follower of the Faerie faith, demanded a boon from her goddess that she may reward or avenge the responsible parties for her daughter’s disappearance. When she realized her son-in-law had allowed her daughter to leave this time with her soul mate she decided to reward him by bringing his soul mate to him even though she came from the future. Malcolm was not pleased, he already had enough to worry about with his half-brother trying to destroy him and his sister held prisoner by him he did not want to deal with the pretty lass that was sent to him.

Danielle Dearton had always believed in faeries. She believed the faeries had a higher purpose for her and it did not involve her staying where she was. She just didn’t expect them to send her back in time with all those germs! Her soul mate was not amenable to his destiny but she cannot deny their instant attraction or that she felt more at home here than she’d ever felt in her whole life.

Rating: 3/5

Comments: Liked the faerie magic and the fact the brother was otherworldly gifted. Would have been nice if Malcolm had some powers we only know Elesyria felt the power but this is his story and we don’t know what his strength is. Was it his uncanny ability to heal? Dani really had no purpose in the past. She didn’t really relieve Colm’s suffering nor did she help his people in anyway. It could be argued that she was just meant for him but one would think if she felt like she belonged in the past then why so? I didn’t get it.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Ok, so I’m making a last-minute change, because a lot of my followers are in the areas affected by Sandy and so many are without power I’m extending the contest until November 8th. Hopefully by them everyone will have power and internet back. I’m doing this because when we had the Tornado and were without power for 10 days I missed out on claiming some cool prizes I had won and I remember how bummed I was so there you go. That gives everyone an extra 8 days to comment on Oct. posts. Haven’t heard yet if our Trick or Treating has been changed but I hope so because it is still raining here and it sounded like my siding or car port roof is loose. I expect we’ll have flooding soon.

So if you are in Sandy’s path, be wise, be smart, stay inside, stay safe and stay dry!

And Gel Friday will be home next Monday. Yeah, I’ve missed my Stephanie, although Gram and Grampa don’t want to give her back!

rung of society. Only Lady Felicity Seymour, who has no magic, no inheritance, and no prospects, may be willing to judge the man strictly on his own merits…

hidden…
When family pressures push Lady Felicity into a terrible fate, she has only Sir Terence to turn to. As the two outcasts
are propelled by circumstances beyond their control, they are forced to explore the unseen depths beneath society’s facade. And what they discover about each other is more real and more beautiful than they ever could have imagined…

Galar Arvid is a genetically altered warlord and agent who’s been sent back to 2008 to save a pretty Atlanta artist from a Xeran time traveler who intends to kill her for profit. What Galar doesn’t count on is the powerful desire Jessica Kelly ignites in him. But could a romance between them work? A three-hundred-year chasm separates them and, even if they dart through time, there’s still a maniacal killer on their tails.

He is like nothing from her world, neither his variegated hair nor his feline yellow eyes. Yet Dela has danced through the echo of his soul, and she knows this warrior would obey.Hari has been used and abused for millennia; he is jaded, dull, tired. But upon his release from the riddle box, Hari sees his new mistress is different. In Dela’s eyes he sees a hidden power. This woman is the key. If only he dares protect, where before he has savaged; love, where before he’s known hate. For Dela, he will dare all.

A Highland warrior sworn to protect Innocence throughout the Ages…

Aidan, the Wolf of Awe, has abandoned the Brotherhood and forsaken his vows. Feared by all and trusted by none, he hunts alone, seeking vengeance against the evil that destroyed his son.
Her Seduction… His Salvation.

Brie spends her time fighting evil from the safety of her laptop—and fantasizing about the medieval Highlander she met just once. She is also a gifted empath. Still, her life is pretty ordinary—until she awakens one night consumed with Aidan’s pain and rage—which she is feeling across centuries! And when Aidan suddenly appears in the city and takes her hostage, Brie cannot believe how dark and dangerous he has become. She knows she should be afraid, but instead, she will fight across time for his redemption… and his love.

Julia London who was tickled that I brought around 18 books for her to sign at RomCon has her Highland Lockhart Family and

Highlander Unbound On leave from his Highland regiment, Captain Liam Lockhart comes to London on an urgent mission: to repossess the stolen family heirloom that could save his ancestral estate. He never dreamed it would involve surrendering his heart. But the beautiful and scandalous socialite Ellen Farnsworth sets his Highland blood aflame with a will as strong and reckless as his own. Though bound to Liam by a soul-searing passion, duty impels Ellen to commit a terrible betrayal.

Now, driven by passion, pride, and vengeance that know no bounds, this fearsome Highlander will reclaim not only his family’s ancient treasure, but the one daring woman he was meant to love for all time.

From Melissa Mayhue’s Daughters of the Glen we have

Thirty Nights With A Highland Husband.

In the misty recesses of time a Faerie Prince loses his true love, prompting a blessing on all his mortal female descendants, bestowing his powers on them that they should be protected and allowed to find their own true loves.

CONNOR MACKIERNAN is a 13th century Scottish warrior, a descendent of that Faerie prince, a man who lives only for honor and duty, but he has a huge problem. His experience of betrayal at the hands of women has left him suspicious and distrustful of any woman’s motives. He’s sworn never to marry, but finds he must do exactly that to save his sister. With the help of his well-meaning aunt, and a little Faerie magic, the search for a bride is on.

CAITLYN CORYELL is a 21st century woman who longs to be strong enough to find love without sacrificing who she is. Her experience with an unfaithful fiance who wanted to marry her only for her family’s money and influence has left her doubting her desirability and any man’s reason for wanting her. Imagine her surprise when she puts on an antique pendant and Connor appears in her bedroom, begging her help to save his sister. He offers a simple adventure: travel to his time, marry him and return home. But nothing’s simple when the adventure backfires, trapping Cate in the 13th Century.

An ancient Faerie’s blessing reaches across the barriers of time to unite two emotionally wounded people. But it will take more than the magic of the Fae to heal their hearts. It will require the most powerful magic of all – the magic of true love.

And from Melissa’s Warrior series the spin-off we have

Warrior’s Redemption Will the magic of modern romance help him defeat an evil ancient power?

MALCOLM MACDOWYLT sees himself a failed warrior, haunted by the death of the woman he married to become laird of Clan MacGahan. Neither his Viking heritage nor his claim to descend from Norse gods can restore his confidence in his ability to protect his people. His sister is held captive, her life in jeopardy, and his Magically powerful half-brother wants him dead. The last thing he needs is more responsibility, but that’s exactly what he gets when his Faerie mother-in-law arrives seeking justice for her daughter in the form of an enticing woman from seven hundred years in the future.

DANIELLE DEARMON has waited fifteen years to discover the life she is supposed to live. She just never dreamed she’d end up in the thirteenth century with a handsome Scot bent on saving everyone but himself.

With the lives of those most dear to him hanging in the balance, Malcolm sets out to battle a powerful evil Magic, only to learn that the redemption he seeks exists only in the arms of the woman he loves.

I love this next series and not only are the titles and covers cute and catchy but the stories have humorous and I love a good laugh. So from Kieran Kramer and her Impossible Bachelors may I offer

When Harry Met Molly.

He’s always been a player. Dashing Lord Harry Traemore is perfectly content to live out his days in the pursuit of pleasure. But when he’s named by the Prince Regent as one of society’s “Impossible Bachelors,” Harry is drafted into a ribald romantic wager. The rules of engagement are scandalously simple: The bachelor whose mistress wins the title of “Most Delectable Companion” gets to remain unmarried. Harry is utterly unconcerned about his status…until his latest lightskirt abandons him.

Who will win this game of love? Enter Lady Molly Fairbanks. Harry’s childhood friend—actually, “foe” is more like it—is the most unlikely companion of all. She’s attractive but hot-headed, and in no mood for games. Besides, what could the self-indulgent Harry possibly know about what makes a woman delectable? It’s time for Molly to teach him a lesson once and for all…but will it lead to “happily ever after?”

And last but not least is Monica McCarty and The Highland Guard series and The Chief. An elite fighting force like the world has never seen…

Scouring the darkest corners of the Highlands and Western Isles, Robert the Bruce handpicks ten warriors to help him in his quest to free Scotland from English rule. They are the best of the best, chosen for their superior skills in each discipline of warfare. To lead his secret Highland Guard, Bruce chooses the greatest warrior of all.

The ultimate Highland warlord and a swordsman without equal, Tor MacLeod has no intention of being drawn into Scotland’s war. Dedicated to his clan, the fiercely independent chief answers to no one—especially not his alluring new bride, bartered to him in a bid to secure his agreement to command the deadliest fighting force the world has ever seen. The treacherous chit who made her way to his bed may have won his hand, but she will never claim his heart.

Although her husband’s reputation is as fierce as his manner, Christina Fraser believes something softer hides beneath his brutal shell. But the only warmth she feels is in their bed, in the glorious moments of white-hot desire that disappear with the dawn. When Christina’s reckless bid to win her husband’s love goes awry and thrusts them into danger on the eve of war against England, Tor will face his ultimate battle: to save his wife and open his heart—before it’s too late.

Well that is the end of the tour for this part of the day but don’t worry come back later today for our e-books and erotic selections, yes I said erotic….be warned! Weren’t those Highlanders just Hunky?????

Oh yes I almost forgot. I have been saying a certain line about my celebration and if anyone can recall it you’ll go in for a drawing, put your guess in your comments about this morn’s offerings.

       I do believe in Faeries… I do believe in Faeries… I do…I do. Warrior’

       I do believe in Faeries… I do believe in Faeries… I do…I do.

Warrior’s Redemption by Melissa Mayhue is Book One in her new Warriors series. It is in my opinion loosely connected to her Daughters of the Glen series, which I love by the way.

Melissa’s story stars a heroine who believes with her whole body and spirit in Faeries. Danielle or Dani for short ; Dani has believed in Faeries all her life and she just knows they have a purpose for her. So at midnight on Halloween or Samhain, as it was called in medieval time, Dani will be prepared. She has saved her money and has used it to buy special rocks and crystals to hopefully open a portal to communicate with the Faeries. Dani is not the only one asking for boons from the Fae. It is this combination of supplications that lands our heroine back in 1294 Scotland. I have to say I like how the Faeries’ Queen answers - “You had but to ask daughter. So you wish it, so it will be.”

I have to say here that if I was transported back to medieval Scotland I would ask the Faerie queen for a boon-to bring a few modern convenances with me:

1) never-ending femine supplies

2) my venus razor (refills too)

3) my modern toilet complete with toilet paper ( also never-ending)

4) my microwave (It would magically work without electricity of course)

Oh and my toothbrush and toothpaste.( never-ending supply/ enough to share too)

That is the only thing that bothered me about our heroine, I kept waiting for her to complain about something she missed and she didn’t, not once!!!!! I’d be crying my eyes out, oh I’d want to be there but I’d be missing my above list. I really liked Dani though and would love to have her for a friend.

Now let’s move on to our Scottish hero Malcolm MacDowylt, laird of the clan MacGahan, who is no stranger to magic himself. Malcolm thinks he’s cursed by the Gods of Old. As a young lad Malcolm was chosen by the Norse God Oden himself and marked with his symbol over his heart. Malcolm is a wonderful hero, ready to sacrifice himself for those he loves and promises to protect. I won’t tell you any more about Malcolm as he is going to be all yours to discover.

There are some wonderful secondary characters and villains. Melissa has done such a fine job setting up potential heroes and heroines while weaving her tale of enchantment and magic. I can’t wait to see if some of my favorites get their own stories. We have Patrick, Malcolm’s brother, who is the strong silent type, a warrior through and through. Elesyria is a Faerie bent on dispensing justice, good or bad.

We have one heck of a villain in Malcolm’s half-brother, Torquil, who is definitely a snake with his own magical powers, also bestowed by Odin. Then we have a wolf in sheep’s clothing and a good guy hiding in plain sight too. I canna tell you anymore without giving out spoilers. I hope you get a chance to pick up Warrior’s Redemption so you too can be swept away by magic, murder, betrayal, Faeries and enduring love. In fact you will be seeing this book up for grabs soon in a contest, hint hint!

Will the magic of modern romance help him defeat an evil ancient power?

Here is a look at the next book in Melissa’s Warrior series Warrior Reborn.

Prisoner of her evil half-brother, Christiana has visions that show her that only one warrior can rescue her — a man she is mysteriously drawn to. The only problem is, he’s in the future. Now she must rely on the magic of a Faerie to transport him to the past. And when Christiana finally meets Chase, the sparks between them set off a smoldering desire. But will the magic that brought them together also tear them apart?

I give Warrior’s Redemption 4.75 tail swishes. Want to go check Melissa and her books out? Well you can go here http://www.melissamayhue.com/index.html

Thursdays Bite

Book trailers, Baby!

That’s what’s happening!

All my paranormal author friends are creating hot new trailers for their releases, and now debut author JL Bowen has a book trailer for Healer, her YA due to release next week, so here it is!

Melissa Mayhue’s trailer for her first book in her new series is also by Lex Valentine of Winterheart Design , the same artist as JL’s trailer. Here is the fabulous trailer for Warrior’s Redemption:

Today is a Super Sunday, tow posts today I hope you like them. I want to introduce you to one of my favorite authors and a friend Melissa Mayhue. I recently did a review on Highlander’s Curse you can read it hear http://wp.me/p1HH6W-6g . I first Melissa two years ago as we were both checking in to RomCon, we had been coresponding via email so I was surprised when I turned around and there she was. Here she is in the Victoian Fashion Show. I love Melissa and her books so much that I told Denny that he could finally get a tatoo as long as it was the Mark of the Guardian from Melissa’s books. Bio:

Faced with telling you all about me, I realized…I’m not very interesting! So, rather than bore you with useless trivia about my life, [I was an only child, born and raised in Texas], I’ll share the story of how I came to be a writer.

First and foremost, I am a reader. Some of my best memories are of my mother taking me to the local library every week during the summer to check out armloads of books. I could hardly wait to get home, dive into the stories, and get lost in a whole new, wonderful world. My prized possession as a girl was an entire shelf of Nancy Drew Mysteries. I adored Nancy Drew.

My first experience with writing a book came at age 13. I developed a fascination with genealogy and, after spending time visiting older relatives to gather information, I found I had all sorts of wonderful family stories. What on earth could I do with all those [mostly false] tales? Why, I’d write a sweeping, 600+ page novel of course! A tale of life through several generations, spanning two centuries. It would be fantastic.

Armed with purpose and enthusiasm, I sat down at my big typewriter, [yes, I'm dating myself...typewriter, not keyboard], and began Page One. Hours later I had almost completed two whole pages. [double spaced, of course]. Hmmmmm… An entire day and I had barely two pages to show for it? [rather boring pages, at that].

Maybe I wasn’t cut out to be an author after all.

In spite of my writing setback, I retained my passion for books. I simply concentrated on reading other people’s books. Lots of books. All kinds of books. Until I discovered Romance. Finally, a world I could escape to where I knew I’d always find a happy ending! I devoured them, literally reading hundreds.

Years passed before the writing bug seriously bit again. I was working in downtown Denver and, as so many writers advised, every lunch hour I took my pad and pen [actually, I preferred a pencil] and headed for my favorite coffee shop to spend my 50 minutes writing.

Unfortunately, my favorite coffee shop was in a book store. Invariably, I’d end up writing nothing. There were too many fascinating people to watch, too many interesting conversations to hear and then, of course, there were all the books to distract me.

Still, I had these two characters living in my head, wanting their story told…

Then came the summer we took our second family vacation to Scotland. On the Black Isle [ which isn't black or even an isle ], near the pretty little town of Rosemarkie, we parked our rented car and hiked back into a magically beautiful placed called Fairy Glen. Resting on a large rock at the edge of a waterfall and pool, lulled by the lush nature of the setting, I suddenly realized THIS was the place for Cate and Connor. For the remainder of that trip, I’d catch glimpses of them, in a castle, standing at the foot of a crumbling staircase, or riding through a highland meadow.

Once I finally sat down at my keyboard and decided the time had come to give those two life, I found, amazingly enough, they weren’t the only characters running around in my head. There were a bunch of them… all clamoring for their own turn!

My GOAL, as a writer, is to give each of those noisy characters a life in their own story.

My HOPE, as a writer, is that you’ll enjoy reading their stories as much as I enjoy writing them!

If you’ve read my review you know how much I love Melissa’s writting and how she makes each book seem like it was written just for you. Here is her cover art for her Daughters of the Glen Series.

It’s a Viking symbol of protection.

So lets read a bit about a Warrior’s Redemption.

Will the magic of modern romance help him defeat an evil ancient power?

MALCOLM MACDOWYLT sees himself a failed warrior, haunted by the death of the woman he married to become laird of Clan MacGahan. Neither his Viking heritage nor his claim to descend from Norse gods can restore his confidence in his ability to protect his people. His sister is held captive, her life in jeopardy, and his Magically powerful half brother wants him dead.

Sounds like a winner Melissa can’t wait to read it.

Ok so let’s hear what Melissa has to say to my questions.

Z: Did you choose your gendre or did it choose you?

M: I suppose I’d have to say it chose me. I write what I love to read. I won’t waste my time on reading a book without a Happy Ever After, so that pretty much directed me into Romance. I also love a good fantasy to send my imagination wandering, which led me to Paranormal. And what could be better than a handsome Highlander to protect and cherish you?So, yeah. Writing what I do is a given. J

Z: What is your favorite comfort food?

M: Potatoes. Definitely.I love a good baked potato with all the fixin’s, though, if I’m really down, I’m more likely to dredge up a typical meal from my childhood, with fried potatoes and chicken fried steak. Is it any wonder, really, that I struggle with my weight??? J

Z: I like fried potatoes too.

Z: Do you have a comfort read? Tell us about it.

M:Anything with a Happy Ever After. I’m not usually one to re-read a book, but that’s mainly because I have so little time to read and SO many books in my TBR pile!

Z: Were you a bookworm growing up?

M: Absolutely, I was a bookworm growing up. As an only child, my books and my Barbies were my favorite companions.

Z: Who did you read?

M: I read everything. Voraciously. From the earliest readers in school [Jane and Dick and Spot] , I went on to discover enduring favorites like Pippi Longstocking and then Nancy Drew. From there I graduated to Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt. [Loved Stewart’s Moonspinners!]. Around the time I was thirteen, I decided I was old enough to plow my way through the classics and I spent my summer reading the likes of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind and Somerset Maugham’s The Razor’s Edge. All of which confirmed for me the necessity of a Happy Ever After if I really wanted to enjoy the time I put into reading. Then, after all the literature classes I took in college [where I was convinced they assigned every depressing book they could find!] I made up my mind that I would never spend my precious time reading another book I didn’t enjoy.

Z: I enjoyed Dick and Jane, Pippi and Nancy.

Z: What is something that scares the heck out of you?

M: Spiders. Stupid, I know, but they freak me out. J Though I have to admit, since I realized the vacuum makes a wonderful Spider-Fighting Weapon, I seem to be developing a backbone where they’re concerned.

Z: If you could go on the Ultimate Vaca where would you go and who or what would go with you?

M: I’d head back to Scotland for an extended visit, with a few days in Ireland and then swing down to explore Stonehenge. As to who I’d take, well, I’d have to take my husband. He’s my favorite traveling companion. [Even after all these years, the man still makes me laugh!] I’d also love to take my two younger sons and their wives.Took my oldest son and his wife the last time I went and though all my sons have been, I’d love to show my favorite places to my lovely daughters-in-law.

Z: Who are some of your favorite authors?

M: Wow. I don’t know if your blog page is long enough for the whole list! J To name just a few… Lynn Kurland, Karen Marie Moning, Christina Skye, Charlaine Harris, Janet Chapman, Christina Dodd… there are so many wonderful authors and fantastic stories out there, really, it’s hard to think of them all. Oh! I’m reading a brand new author right now, L.L. Muir, [a time travel – Going Back for Romeo] and though I’m only on chapter four of her first book, I’m totally enjoying it.

Z: Research? How do you prefer to do it; plane/train/automobile, laptop or library?

M: All of the above. First off, let me admit that I’m a confirmed research geek and get that out of the way. I can spend HOURS hunting for one tiny fact to make sure it fits in the story. I enjoy writing about places I’ve been and seen [makes description SO much easier]. But I also spend lots of time with research books and Google. It’s amazing how often in searching for one thing, I bump into something else that sends me on an entirely different tangent. [That’s the magic part of writing, to me].

Z: Do you attend conferences?

M:Yes, I do try to attend a few every year.

Z: If so where can we “stalk” I mean go to find you and which is your favorite to attend?

M: One of my favorites is RomCon in Denver every summer. First off, it’s close enough I can drive, so I’m not limited on how much ‘stuff’ I can drag along with me! More important, it’s been very reader-focused and has allowed me the opportunity to spend time with my readers… just visiting and getting to know them.

Z:What do you like to drink, nibble on or listen to while you write?

M: Drink: Sweet Iced Tea. My absolute all-time favorite. [Another hangover from my childhood in Texas].

Listen To: Lots of Celtic instrumentals. [No vocals – I can’t concentrate on MY story if I’m listening to the story in a song].For battle scenes, the absolute best are my Albannach cds. [You can hear a clip for yourself at http://www.albannachmusic.com/music/]

Nibble on: Cheese and crackers, chocolate, nuts [pecans and cashews are my favorites]

Z: Do you have kids?

M: Yes.

Z: If so are they toddlers, school age, teens, college bound or “Hey Mom, I’m home again! or are you an empty nester?

M: I have three grown sons, each married, and two of which [as of last year] have sons of their own. I am, by the way, finding that being Nana is much more fun [and much less work!] than being Mama. J

Z: If you could have one of your books or series to be made into a movie which would it be and who do you see staring in it?

M:Tough question. I’d love to see any of them made into a movie [or would I?hmmm…] I’m not sure I can cast them, though. Since I “see” my characters as I write them, it’s difficult to imagine any other faces on them than the ones already in my imagination. Oh… I know one. I could totally see Gerard Butler as Robbie MacQuarrie in A Highlander’s Homecoming. Just couldn’t help making the picture of Gerard in a kilt BIG.

Z: Favorite TV shows?

M: Justified [love that accent]; Thirty Rock [they always make me laugh and the one-liners are so quick, and so clever, I really have to pay attention!]; Almost any space thing on Discovery or Science Channel – I especially enjoy the Wonders Of… episodes with Professor Brian Cox. [Think maybe it’s the accent???] J

Z: To finish off, describe your self in 5 words.

M: Wife, mother, grandmother, author, happy.

Type: Paranormal-ish Romance

Publisher: Pocket Books

My Copy: Sent

Malcolm MacDowylt, laird of Clan MacGahan, is a man ruled by guilt. His wife’s death, his struggling clansmen, even his sister being held prisoner—all hangs on his shoulders. As a descendent of the Norse gods himself, he’s not surprised when his Faerie “mother-in-law” arrives determined to deliver justice for his treatment of her daughter. At least not until that justice appears in the form of a woman whose every look speaks to his very soul…A woman who claims to come from 700 years in the future.

.

Malcolm, Laird of his Scottish clan has bigger problems then a visiting mother in law spouting off about fairies and magic. War is coming and his focus should rightfully be there. When his meddling mother in law Eleysria warns him of a girl who he must rescue he dares not to brush her off. Who he finds is Dani, a woman from the future with no idea how she came to be 700 years in the past, and in Malcolms strong embrace.

Dani never once believed that the fairy Goddess would send her to the past. She’s not quite sure she even believed the fairies were listening. Now she is stuck in historical Scotland with no way home. In order to throw off Malcolm’s evil half brother, she agrees to pretend they are betrothed to hopefully throw him off his game to take over Malcolms territory. The problem with pretending is that, at some point, it becomes real.

.

I’m not sure where to start this review. I really enjoyed the book but I can’t seem to get into words why exactly. You may just have to take my word on it. To start with I’m not quite sure what to label this book. It’s a mix of historical, contemporary and paranormal romance all rolled into one and usually that would annoy me. Melissa Mayhue makes it work and work well and so I ended up really liking the characters and their interactions.

Dani is our heroine. She is spunky and true to herself and her belief in fairies. Regardless of what others may think of her, she holds fast to her beliefs. On Halloween night she makes a plea to the fairy goddess to finally be rid of her boring life. To be taken to where she is needed, where her destiny is. She is beyond shocked when to fill her destiny she gets sent back to 700 years in the past. I loved watching how she adjusted to historical Scotland. How she reacted to Scottish Laird, Malcolm upon waking in his arms the first time. The girl has a mean punch! For a girl that should be rightfully confused with her surroundings, she is extremely brave and doesn’t hesitate when the people she is coming to care for are in danger. Included in those is Malcolm. Pretending to be engaged is one thing, but actually starting to feel like it is another.

Having already lost one wife, Malcolm doesn’t believe he can take care of anyone, let alone this woman claiming to be from the future. He bears the weight of a ton of pressure. With a war approaching, with his own brother, he spends a lot of time stressed out. His half brother leads a rival clan and Torquil isn’t known for his patience. He also has Malcolm’s sister, who he holds in high regard because of her visions. Malcolm knows he must get her back safely and soon before Torquil exploits her abilities for his own gain any further. Further complicating his life is his ex mother in law, Elesyria, who, along with the goddess, is the reason Dani has shown up in the first place. His reasoning tells him fairies aren’t real but the fact are screaming that they are. I liked his willingness to see outside the box and go with his gut. He isn’t fully healed from losing his wife and here comes Dani with her sassy mouth and directness that, as a laird, he isn’t used to people expressing.

I found Malcolm to be a highly engaging character. First off I have a thing for accents and Scottish, even in my head, sounds HOT. Secondly he stood up for what he believed in and when given the opportunity to buy his way out of a sticky situation, he instead surrendered myself. That’s just not something you see (or read) a lot of. I found the vulnerability endearing. On the flip side, upon hearing about his capture, Dani goes into warrior mode and become the heroic hero. The flip of roles was just flat out good reading.

Readers that enjoy a bit of a mix to their romance heavy on the time travel should really enjoy this one. It’s light-hearted and easy to read and I didn’t once find myself cursing the number of pages between the covers. There is very little sex and what there is feels more like a “fade to black” type of scene. I would say if anything I wanted more emotion. There are times that I didn’t feel the connection that was growing between Malcolm and Dani. I read the words but that spark was lost to me several times.

I give Warrior’s Redemption by Melissa Mayhue 4 stars!

Hello everyone and Happy Hump Day!!!. Earlier this year a sweet friend of mine, Fatin, over at Write

Hello everyone and Happy Hump Day!!!.

Earlier this year a sweet friend of mine, Fatin, over at Writeminded Readers became a widow when her husband was murdered outside their little family store. The writing community banded together and Auction 2011 was put together to raise funds for Fatin and her children. I bid on two things, one was an arc for Erin Quinn’s book Haunting Desire and a Fantasy Photo Shoot with a Cover Model at RomCon 2011 with author/photographer Jenn LeBlanc.

I was totally surprised when I won both, and couldn’t wait for the book to arrive and for August to roll around. Well I went out to Denver with my husband and daughter for RomCon and met Jenn and the cover model Derek Hutchins and the wonderful makeup artist Monika Graf. Boy did she make me look good. Derek is a real nice young man and it was fun to work with him, even if he was only about 22, his skin was so warm to the touch. The poor guy though was shaking like a leaf, I thought it was because he hated having to work with a much older lady but as it turns out he had just flown in that day and had already been shooting all day and was jet-lagged and dehydrated a bit. As soon as we were done he went to his room and slept until dinner. Then my hubby and I had our shot taken. Stephanie said I wasn’t being fair, I should have given her the photo shoot with Derek. I could have but then I wouldn’t have that wonderful book cover that Jenn did for me.

Here are the pictures Jenn did of my husband Denny and I. She is such a great photographer and a nice lady!! Denny is in his Navy Camoes and his remodeled T-shirt. Monika removed the sleeves so his tattoo would show. I had him get inked with Melissa Mayhue’s Guardian Mark and he’ll be getting Jericho’s tat from Karen Marie Moning’s fever series next month and another Guardian/Viking tat from Melissa’s new book Warrior’s Redemption.

That last one is my favorite. Here is the cover for Melissa upcoming book Warriors Redemption which should be out Dec. 27th 2011. See the tat on his chest? Well I linked the picture back to Melissa’s site so you can go over there and maybe enlarge that so see it better. She sent me the JPG of it so Denny could take it to the Tattoo Pallor. That is a Viking symbol of Protection she told me and they usually wore it between the eyes on the forehead…yeah it didn’t work for her or me there so she put it over his heart, which is where it’s going on Denny too.

Now for Jericho’s tat. He placed it on the base of the skull of the heroine Mac so he could find her when needed in Karen Marie Moning Fever series, kinda a Lo-Jac tat.

You should be taken over to Karen’s website if you click above, she writes some of my favorite Highlanders too which are also in her fever series. But all I can say is Drustan and Daegus, Adam and Cian, ah heck they all give me the shivers.

And if you want to link back to Jenn here is her link as I forgot to link the pictures to her.
