With the recent news of Horace Dodge‘s steam yacht Delphine being put for sale at a staggering 38 million Euros (about $50 million), I thought this photograph was fitting. Boats have played a large part in the development of Detroit and Michigan as a whole. They continue to float along the many waterways this great state has to offer.

I was walking in the park next to my house on a warm autumn day in November 2010, when along the trail, through the tall fall grass, I spotted these two out on the lake. The only way I could get the photo was through the grass. I kind of ended up liking the way it turned out.

Yep, this is Tickles. He was one of our local homeless dogs until our Lake Patrol decided they would take him in. They took him to get his shots and got his tags. Aside from the boat rides he gets from Lake Patrol, he just kind of hangs out down by the pier during the day and loves on everyone that comes by. He’s such a mellow old dog.

This was such a mysterious rock! The calmness of the water that day bordered on downright eerie. It didn’t help that the dam couldn’t have been more than 200 ft or so away and within 15 minutes of this shot there were no rocks in sight! Watching the lake bed go under water was just a bit unnerving, but rather cool at the same time.
