See aasta siis eriti “hilised” võistlused aga no mis sa teed, kui ilm kaasa ei mängi. Asjaolude sunnil olin jälle kohtunikupingis,  otsustasin palaviku ja teiste külmetusnähtudega kaldale jääda ja oma osa võistlustele sealt anda. Ristnasee saabusin 6:30 praamiga, nii et randa jõudsin esimesena. Kuna kell oli varajane, siis tundus sellel hetkel ilm mulle lootustandvana, tuul puhus ning aegajalt tulid väiksed setid. Oleks vaid teadnud, et väga palju paremaks ei lähegi….. kahju, kahju, kahju.

Vaatamata hilisele kuupäevale saabus kohale ootamatult palju huvilisi, kellest starti jõudis 11 võistlejat. Kuna ootasime pikalt oodatud ilma, siis olime lõpuks sunnitud elimination tabelite asemel läbi viima 30 minutilise supersessioni. Kohtunikele tähendas see päris kõva pingutust, sest silma tuli peal hoida kõigil 11 võistlejal. Nii et vabandan tagant järgi, kui mõne sõitja trikk või sooritus kahe silma vahele jäi. Üldiselt aga sujus hindamine ootamatult hästi ning esikolmiku väljaselgitamisel läks kõik libedalt. Kuna kasutasime uut hindamissüsteemi, mille järgi iga manööver andis kindlas vahemikus punkte, siis sessioni lõpus andsid punktid esikolmikuks järgmise pingerea 1. Erno Kaasik 2. Tony Mõttus 3. Ain Härmson

Google Wave, as you probably know, is an all new communication service by Google. So wave is like an actual wave (as in energy in physics). A wave never dies or so google claims. A wave will not be trashed unless all people added on to it trash it. Even then it will remain on a physical tape backup from google servers. First google came up with unlimited storage for email account, now this. How long before we can expect google to start charging us for storage that we consume. Has anyone ever though how much CO2 is produced by sending an email, uploading a photo on picasa, or by creating a wave?

Acabo de recibir invitaciones para Google Wave, 7 para ser exactos son las que me quedan, si estás interesado deja un comentario con tu dirección de correo.

El dia 5 de noviembre recibí la invitación para probar Google Wave, hoy, despues de 21 días de pruebas creo que me veo en disposición de afirmar que, a corto plazo, puede suponer una auténtica revolución a todos los niveles en la comunicación online.

Un resumen de estos 21 días podría ser el siguiente:

Dia 1

He recibido la invitación, que ilusión, ahora que hago con esto, no tengo ningún contacto, ¿para que debe servir? He visto los videos de presentación, parece muy útil , bueno no tengo tiempo para mirarlo, hay demasiadas cosas por hacer y esto creo que requerirá cierto aprendizaje, no se si esperarme a que esté la versión definitiba ya que de momento todo el mundo me dice que está muy verde, bueno no se, ya veremos, lo iré mirando y a ver si le puedo sacar algo de partido.

Dia 21

Mis contactos deberían chequear más los waves, que lento que responden, debería enviar algún reminder cuando se actualizan los waves, asi nunca acavaremos la partida de ajedrez, ¡esto es el futuro!, mira que gadget más chulo, ya verás cuando lo vea…, me encanta tener todo organizado en un solo screen (twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Rss…), y la forma de compartir información de todo tipo y formato, es increíble!!

Google Wave es una herramienta de comunicación en la que, a tiempo real, podemos interactuar con nuestros contactos y compartir/editar/integrar información de todo tipo. Dicho esto, hay 2 formas de utilizarlo, para tener nuestro “entretenimiento online” integrado,  con esto me refiero a chatear en tiempo real, compartir enlaces, fotografías, jugar online, videoconferencias, etc… o bien, el punto importante, utilizarlo como un medio perfecto para trabajar.

Duante estos días de pruebas y de aprendizaje, me he centrado en la primera opción, he estado probando la mayoría de las tonterias que he podido encontrar y haciendo un poco el tonto con mis contactos, desde jugar a distancia una interminable partida de ajedrez (que espero ganar), realizar videochats con mis amigos en el extrangero, compartir mapas, videos, integrar mi facebook, twiter, correo y rss,  hasta un sin fin de pruebas con los gadgets qeu ya están disponibles. Si, he pasado unos momentos entretenidos pero realmente no ha sido muy fructífero, aunque me ha dado cierto conocimiento de la herramienta y me ha permitido contemplar su enorme potencial. Llegados a este punto, la evolución lógica es evidente, vale, muy bonito y ahora, ¿esto para que me puede servir?.

Sinceramente creo que Google Wave es una herramienta para el trabajo inimaginable tiempo atrás, aquí podéis ver unos ejemplos al respecto:

Esto son solo dos ejemplos, pero en un futuro cercano, esta herramienta puede suponer un gran cambio en la forma de elaborar workflows de cualquier empresa de mínima capacidad tecnológica.

Sinceramente, me encantaría poder transmitiros más información al respecto de su utilidad para los negocios pero, para esto, es preciso esperar 21 días más ya que hoy empiezo a utilizarlo con este fin.

So how does it work?

wave works on federation open source protocol through which all wave communicates. Each wave created with your friends are called wavelets. wavelets are nothing but like normal mail which you send to your friends in current world. So here these waves are not stored in different inbox like today. They are stored in single space or while in live communication in P2P, which makes faster and easy access and edit. And one of the best feature of wave is you can see the live view of what your friend is typing or editing. All can edit the content and the same time. And later you can see who has done what using replay mode.  Replay mode is nothing but a replay in you DVD. This show who modified what and when.

What will be the wave future ?

It may become a popular collaboration tool and could replace the current mailing system

As it is a open source and wave is open to everyone who owns a website. you can create your own wave or for example yahoo wave in future, so a person having wave account in Yahoo can communicate with the Google wave. So every website can have their own wave and can communicate with the other wave in the cyberspace.

And more interesting part is the robots developed for these waves. you can use these robots in your wave to update your blog, do twitter or facebook, all from one place.

Currently Federation protocol ports are open only for testing and sandbox account, soon it will be open for all to communicate with Google wave and other vendors.

Happy waving

On the second Saturday in November I stood atop Winslow Hill and imagined myself as an autumn leaf, vulnerable, light as a feather, about to be blown away into yonder.  With hurricane force winds blasting in from the sea, the whole of Bowleaze Cove was a bubbling mass of white water.  As I tried to photograph the scene, with just a fraction of zoom lens protruding, my camera bucked and weaved like a rebellious stallion while the wind and the rain took its revenge on me.

Later that day I went to worship once again at the awesome reality of Chesil Beach in a force 10 when the waves provide the thunder and the spray the lightning.  Behind me the valley was brimming with rain and hunkering down for the worst storm of the year.

Three days later and I’m strolling due south across the centre of the valley.  The dogs are hunting and quartering in front of me.  On my left the deep shadows are playing games in amongst the strip lynchets.  On my right a wondrous and idyllic tableau is formed by the White Horse and a field full of sheep.  Underfoot is sticky and soggy as the rainwater drains down from the hill.  Ahead of me the A353 snakes across the lip of the valley and I wonder when the next motorcyclist will be severely injured up there.  It happens on a fortnightly basis and what does the Highway Authority do?  Absolutely nothing of course.  Dorset County Council sits on its fat, collective, complacent backside while young people are grotesquely mutilated on dangerous roads.  It is nothing short of blatant, inexcusable negligence.

So while the valley is a cure for many of the stresses and strains of everyday life, it is not apart from them.  In fact, I make a plea to all driving south down the A353 to look left towards the sea.  Paradise Valley is far too distracting.

Up on the hill, the yellow gorse flowers are back and I’m marvelling again at the hardiness of the sheep.  When Capone, Carla and I go up there for an hour and a half we come back and spend the rest of the day in heated shelter.  Recently, we’ve had as long a spell of consistently high winds as I can remember.  I hate to think what it must be like for those sheep at 3 o’clock in the morning!

In an hurrah to the height of the pheasant season, this morning Carla demonstrated the superiority of her nose and hunting skills.

We climbed up and over the hump that sits on the northern shoulder of White Horse Hill.  Coming down the far side is a favourite place for deer but Carla hunted high and low to no avail.

Out into the main field where the stubbl;e is thick from the last crop of barley and suddenly she’s put up a hen pheasant, fluttering back up to the hump.  Then there are three breaking from cover, another back up the hump and two curling round towards me.  The third is rising, screaming, soaring as I swing right through it and see a clear 20 feet of lead before I pull the trigger.

Another is up quartering me from right to left, accelerating and rising, actually beneath me due to the lie of the land but tumbled cleanly out of the air as another pair break right and the last one falls to my second barrel.  Carla looks bright, fulfilled and chuffed to bits.

Of course no dogs, birds or people were injured in the making of this film that plays only on the ultimate high definition, widescreen inside your head.  Everything except the birds and the dog were imaginary!

If you have been paying attention to the lower right hand side of your twitter homepage, you might have noticed a recent trending topic… #Google Wave.  The mega corporation has released their take on email, and last week a select few people got to send invites to their closest thirty friends.  After begging and pleading on twitter for an invite I got a hold of one and got my chance to check out the new innovation in communication and synergy, and I must say, even with my limited time playing with it… I… LOVE… IT…

The concept Google took was to say, “hey, if we invented Email in 2009 what would it look like?” and their development team went forth and created… Google Wave.  Now you may be asking yourself, “Why do I need Google Wave?  Doesn’t my email do just fine?”  And the answer to that is… NO!  And you will need this.  The future of browser-based conversations is what Google wave represents.

What Google Wave does to email is very similar to what Google Maps does to maps, revolutionizes them (which is why the dev team that created Maps is the one that created Wave).

What Google Wave does is 1) allow many people into a conversation where you are capable of adding video, photos, documents, presentations, information, tweets, video conferencing, robots, and many, many more options; 2) it is open source, which means anyone can develop apps which allows for much more freedom.  What this means for us the student, well hopefully it will be the death of Blackboard.  Honestly who enjoys online classes via blackboard?  I know… the crazies… it’s more annoying then anything, and you feel like you have lost the personal touch that you get from the classroom or at least the ITV experience.  Well Google Wave is going to be the answer to that.  If a professor is teaching an online class, he or she can invite the entire class into a “conversation”, a wave and everyone can communicate with each other in real time, with ease.  This will make online classes bearable and even enjoyable.

The application uses don’t end here.  Student Governments will run more efficiently, and information from faculty/staff/administration will be streamlined and more productive.  I believe that this will be a revolution in the way we communicate… and it is exciting seeing the progress it takes.

Unfortunately Google Wave is still in preview mode, which means limited use… but when this is available to the masses I would highly recommend checking it out… who knows, it may be the backbone for a new paradigm shift and a look into the future of what the Web can do to connect us all.  Check out the video here it’s well worth it.

We watched a video of the original presentation of Google Wave.  The presentation team reminded us of some earlier technologies such as bulletin boards and message boards.  These enable users to keep a record of messages that multiple people could read and post new messages.

The Google team also drew a contrast between conventional email (something they characterized as an older technology) and Google Wave which is characterized as a conversation.  The specific implementation speeds up the conversation by enabling the everyone on the conversation to see the message character by character.

One day, email will be obsolete.  Google Wave may be the replacement.

An expected component is a developer API which Google hopes will encourage others to build gadgets to work with Wave.  There are also extensions that are referred to as robots.

Hoy recibí una invitación para probar este servicio pero hasta el momento no tengo muy claro lo que es Google Wave, hasta donde pude leer es una herramienta para tener todo en uno, a diferencia de los otros servicios de Google en los que la cuenta es la misma en Wave es usuario@googlewave.com, hice una prueba de enviar un correo a esa dirección pero después de un par de horas no hay respuesta (tal vez se perdió entre tantas ondas XD).

Dice es multilingüe pero no veo donde modificar el idioma así que sigue en ingles, siguiendo con esto de la configuración, esta es casi nula solo tiene un par de opciones que podemos personalizar, la verdad me dejo con sabor a poco tal vez le falta ese “algo” de novedoso e innovador a los que nos tiene acostumbrados Google,  (supongo que más adelante cuando lo haya probado mucho más este más sorprendido :O), para terminar aquí una captura:

Yesterday, I went to a the first Google Wave Meetup in Denmark. It was a good event, I thought. Mostly a crowd of youngsters, many of them students at the IT University. Since the crowd was decidedly heterogeneous, we didn’t dive into any particular topic. Daniel Graversen gave a quick introduction to what the wave is and the many ways to use it, and Jacques Holst spoke about how students at ITU use wave for shared note-taking during lectures, for organizing and running meetings, etc. Finally, Daniel spoke about Wave gadgets and robots and the potential for programming for the Wave. It was agreed the next Meetup will focus on Wave programming.

We did shared minutes of the meeting, and Daniel has posted his slides and comments to the Mastering Wave blog.

I really liked the use-cases; I was impressed with the enthusiasm of the ITU students, and the number of people joining note-taking waves. For wave to evolve and find a place in the tool ecology, these kinds of experiments are crucial. One interesting observation was that waves, like wikis, evolve patters and user roles; Jacques mentioned a person on the shared-notes waves taking always doing small improvements (spelling, grammar issues, layout fixes), much like the WikiGnome wikipattern. Getting a sense of key wave patterns is probably as important as (and closely linked to) evolution of wave etiquette.

One thing about it I found interesting was the energy in the room. Despite the altogether different setting, it felt a lot like hanging out in terminal rooms talking about usenet in the mid-80, or giving the first Perl lectures in the late 80’s/early 90’s. There was that mix of enthusiasm, confusion, and sharing. I have no idea either the Copenhagen Wave community or the Wave in general will go, but this is fun. Thanks to Daniel for organizing and to Jacques for providing facilities.

Jaha, då har det tydligen dykt upp ett par invites till Google Wave på mitt konto, och jag tänkte nu att jag kanske skulle ta och dela ut dessa. Liten tävling igen kanske, hoppas att Spotify-vinnarna blev glada för övrigt, även om Spotify är rätt lätt att få tag på numera. Vad ska man göra för att få en invite till Google Wave då?? Jo förstår du, den här gången tänkte jag att ni kunde erbjuda mig en invite till någonting, Voddler kanske, hehe =)…
