A widget ia a web page   that can be viewed and modified by anyone who has access to the internet.  It’s also a communication tool that can include group collaboration.  Educators use widgets in their classrooms to keep students more involved and interested in activities.  Students can add anything to a widget.  They are also more involved in activities because it is easier to access with any connection to the internet.  They can also participate from any location.  Wikis can be used for a science fair projects, students portfolios, or literature circles.  Teachers can also benefit from wikis by being able to collaborate with other teachers.

A mashup is a web page or application that combines data or functionality from two or more external sources to create a new service.

International Governance is the political interaction of transnational actors aimed at solving problems that affect more than one state or region when there is no power of enforcing compliance.

Information provided in mashups are updated within seconds when users across the globe update their activities. The site provides users with a space with all the information they want without them having to go to various sites to search.

Mashups can serve international governance through e-governance. This is done through better communication with its own country’s citizens along with the rest of the world. The government will be able to feel closer to their people and hear their voices as oppose to only doing what they feel is right. Vice versa, this allows for everyone to feel closer to the government and be more aware or informed of the events that are going around them. Also, the government can be more efficient when implementing projects, services and business with different countries around the globe.

It can provide the government with the right and effective tool for international governance.

Jakob Nielson is a guru in the science of User Interface. His group has done numerous studies on how users scan the web with their eye. A dominant scanning technique was found throughout the study.

Impact and Challenges.

As a potential web content writer, I have many things working against me. The user may not give me;

• Time – Very short chance to catch their eye.
• Dedication – No commitment. Can leave my article at any time.
• Patience – Efficiency is important. Long pieces will not be read in entirety.
• Full attention to my text – The web user expects savvy media rich content, not just plain text.

It is important not to over-use scan ability techniques. Doing so, will cause frustration for the user. Understanding the way we view web pages can lead to great new media content.

Home and Business is one of the versions available and probably will be the most popular of the downloads, and it includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote,Outlook, and Office Web Apps.

Professional is the next version available offering Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, Publisher and Office Web Apps.

The final version which is available of the three is Professional Plus which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, Access, Publisher, Infopath, Communicator, SharePoint Workspace, and Office Web Apps and it mentions that it is only available to Volume License Customers.

All three are expected to be offered in both 32 and 64 bit, and if you are a MSDN or TechNet subscriber you can already get access to the download from your normal download area. I am downloading my copy and will report back with a review shortly.

This is one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” ideas. Readability is a web tool that removes all the clutter from web pages and presents you with the text and nothing but the text.

It’s not even a download. You just drag a link to your browser’s toolbar. I’ve tried it in Firefox and Chrome. I didn’t bother with Internet Explorer but it probably works there too.

Before you add it you can configure Readability’s

• Style: Newspaper, Novel, eBook or Terminal.
• Text size: S, M, L or XL.
• Margins: Narrow, Medium, Wide or Extra-Wide.

Unfortunately I didn’t see a way to change those parameters once the link is on your toolbar. I set mine up with Large text which is a bit too large for my eyes. I’m not that old yet! I guess I can delete it and re-load it.

The other issue I had was when reading this fast-changing blog it did not show the latest article. It showed one from a couple of days ago – presumably what it found in the browser’s cache. This was true on both Firefox and Chrome, Hitting “Refresh” brings yuou back to the original page.

Web advertisers won’t be keen on Readability. And content providers I read every day like the New York Times depend on me looking at ads to provide me with free content. Readability addresses this in that I have to invoke it for every page I wish to view. I can’t turn it on for all my web browsing.

So advertisers have a chance to catch my eye before I blank them out. I guess that is a fair compromise. The Bangkok Frugal Photographer likes free, but he doesn’t want to destroy the business model that gives him so much content at no direct cost.

Well, maybe calling it a new adventure is a bit much.  It’s more a key milestone along the way of the same adventure we’ve been on for a couple of years now.  We’ve done up a website, advertising our short term rental properties.

There are a few reasons why we decided to go ahead with a website.  Firstly, any advertising is good advertising.  A presence on the internet is a good way to get the word out about what we do, and how we do it.   Secondly is the ability to put up any amount of detail.  As the properties include everything, this means it can all be listed out.  Finally is the ability to put up as many pictures as we like.  As our properties are really nice, the more photos the better.

So yes, we have a website.  In order to remain anonymous, I’m not going to link to it here, but it is out there on the interwebs, as they say, and it’s becoming a wholly diverting interest.  Every day I come home and check the statistics as to who has visited it, and we’re slowly starting to get enquiries through.  It’s all very exciting.

Configure your Drupal blog to use blogging firefox pluggin Scribefile.

1. You need administrator priviledges since you have to activate Blog and Blog API if you have not done so.
2. Go to Administration › Site building › Modules
3. Enable the Blog API module and if you like writing composing Blog posts also from your Drupal web pages enable also BLog module.
4. Go to Administration › Site configuration › Blog APIs
5. Check at least one content type that is considered a blog entry (typically story, blog entry) and press save.
6. User management › Permissions › blogapi module
7. Ensure the user group (authenticated user or the group user belongs) is checked for “administer content with blog api”. save.
8. UPDATE: If you like to post videos and images directly from your Scribefire account using the blog API, you shoulb make Full HTML input the default input setting for your site. To do so go to Site  configuration › Input Format tab and choose Full HTML as the default input type.
9. Open  ScribeFire and click on the add account wizard in the right side of the ScribeFire window.
10. In the Wizard: click “Manually Configure”, select “Custom Blog”,click “Next”, select “Drupal” blog system type, type in your domain. Enter domain name as(http://mysite.com/xmlrpc.php), click “Next”, enter your username, password, click “Next”, click “Done”.
11. That’s it you now can write post using your firefox pluggin and integrate them seamlessly to your blog.

Beginning Monday, patrons will be able to reserve museum passes through a new product we have purchased through eventkeeper.  The link is under find it fast and on the museum pass information page.  Please feel free to help patrons use this new product.  It’s very easy.  It does ask for their library card number.  It does not authenticate with III, so if they don’t have a card handy, you can make up a 14 digit number.  They will continue to check the passes out in the Children’s Library and they will need their library card to check it out.

On the top of the page there is a link to our policies.  If you click on the name of the museum, you will go to their web page.  If you click on more details, it will tell you about the pass – how many people, how much of a discount, etc.

It saddens me today to share with you that Geocities, one of the best do-it-yourself website development and hosting companies of the dotcom era, is finally being laid to rest today. Geocities was one of the easiest places to go to develop a website for your own personal use. The use of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) made Geocities usable by even the most novice of web page designers. Geocities started out in 1995 as a Beverly Hills hosting service. In 1999 Yahoo snatched up Geocities for $3.57 Billion. With the rapid decline in Yahoo since the rise of Google, Yahoo was forced to shut down the free web hosting division due to lack of funding. Today Geocities last servers were shut down.

Wow! I just came across this site through a Google ad when I did a search for “ecommerce software” and was shocked to find no pricing or no easily visible call to actions to get more info. They definitely push their video through a bright orange button that catches your eye but there’s no simple way to get more information other than clicking the contact button at the very top of the page. The Google ad drove me directly to their ecommerce page which is good but this page should of had a few easy ways for me to find out more about the product other than watching a video. The user also needs a way to learn more and should not be prompted to download a feature guide which is what they have in place. This site seems to be run by a decent size company who spent probably over 6 figures to build this site but it’s lacking some very basics. There’s also a list of data sheets which is fine but these pages could of been built in html and then the user could have the option to download the page or printing the page(s). So I was able to find out after downloading a 17 page PDF and running a search on what I was looking for but will the average user go through this many steps to find these answers? Probably not. You have less than a minute to capture the users attention and in most cases under 20 seconds. I actually stayed on much longer due to the point that I was shocked that there wasn’t an easy way to find out more!!

Apple on Tuesday released its Magic Mouse, a new mouse that features gesture control. The $69 accessory uses BlueTooth wireless to connect to the host computer.Good days for right and left handers.

The new multitouch mouse supports a range of gestures for clicking, multiple buttons, 360-degree scrolling, screen zooming and page “swiping.” Apple said the mouse is designed for righties and lefties.

The Multi-Touch area covers the top surface of Magic Mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

Să vă povestesc ce mai e nou..
De curând habitez împreună cu prietenii într-un apartament gol al unui amic fără apă curentă şi electricitate. Toate bune şi frumoase.. ne-am descurcat cu lumina, apa; totul e bine. Problema e că apartamentul are pereţi de hârtie dacă înţelegeţi ce vreau să spun. Într-o noapte ce am petrecut-o acolo am avut “vizite” plăcute din partea unui vecin, pe la 3 AM şi mai spre dimineaţă. Ce-i drept nu se auzea musca bâzâind (oricum nu sunt muşte in perioada asta – aţi prins ideea), dar totuşi nu cred că influenţa fonică asupra “spiritului şi trupului” vecinului a fost atât de puternică încât să ajungă să bată la uşa apartamentului în toiul nopţii. Singurele explicaţii plauzibile pe care le gasesc sunt fie că suferă de insomnie şi vrea să-şi verse amarul pe noi, fie e un plictisit. În rest seara a fost.. (ajunge atât)

Ok, a trecut şi noaptea aceea, cu câteva animenţări cu poliţia, jandarmeria, forţele terestre ale armatei şi multe altele, dar a trecut. De atunci am mai dat pe acolo de câteva ori şi partea bună e că nu am mai avut probleme cu vecinul (cel puţin la momentul acela). Partea proastă am aflat-o abia azi; vecinul “vesel” i-a sunat pe părintii amicului cu apartamentul şi le-a piperat o grămadă de acuzaţii care mai de care. Ţin să menţionez că părinţii amicului ce are apartamentul nu locuiesc în ţară. În urma apelului plin de reclamaţii, ni s-a interzis (aţi observat prezenţa boldului şi absenţa ghilimelelor) să mai mergem acolo. Aşadar, de azi începând ne vom duce traiul zgribuliţi prin frigul tăios al toamnei şi prin ploaia interminabilă.. (hai că am cam exagerat aici)
Cam asta e “întamplarea” cu apartamentul. Pentru zile “imposibile” în care nu am nici o şansă să ies din casă mi-am pregătit un playlist plin ochi, provizii de Nutline şi puţin entuziasm (cred că se poate conserva, sper..).
