As the experts say, you cant get Ruby on Rails at the first run. Got the book Agile Web Development with Rails by Dave Thompson, read it, all examples worked perfectly, but everything looks like magic. There is plenty under the hood when it comes to ROR and you are totally abstracted while you build your web application(s). I still have to understand the 80% of what I read.

There almost no need to write Javascript, no worry about cross browser compatibility. Ajax works perfect, you can make your application work fine in Javascript disabled web browsers. As with any technology, the success of the platform is measured by what could be launched from it. We are planning for a ROR application, when time is right we will launch it and see if it makes an impact.

But turning brain waves into real-world tech action still requires some heavy decoding of brain activity. The folks over at AVG: Antivirus and Security Software have uncovered a Facebook worm that infects your Facebook page (and prolly your computer) and is waiting to infect all others who click on the curvy sista in the sexy undergarments that is now lamented on your FB page.

By clicking the pic you noticed on a friend’s page, it takes you to another site with a larger view of the temptress. If you roll the dice and “click da button, baby” it will take you to an adult site. ~~After a couple more clicks~~, Instantly you realize that’s not where you want to be and browse back to you FB page, the image is now pasted on your wall working it’s magic, and just waiting for others to follow suit.

Si è svolto ieri a Loreto il convegno dall’accattivante titolo «Fede e tecnologia: una convergenza a sostegno della preghiera», organizzato dalla Delegazione pontificia per il Santuario della Santa Casa. L’occasione (oltre che per fare il punto della situazione in merito) è stata anche propizia per presentare quello che è già stato definito il ‘Facebook della preghiera’, un social network d’incontro e dialogo tra fedeli di tutto il mondo, per pregare ovunque e in qualunque momento della giornata e ispirato proprio al santuario di Loreto.

Come spiegato dallo stesso arcivescovo Giovanni Tonucci presentando l’iniziativa “all’inizio, un anno fa, si è sperimentato il rosario elettronico, un piccolo apparecchio che io stesso porto con me in macchina. È stato un successo, così si è pensato di aprirsi a nuovi orizzonti, attraverso i cellulari: in fondo anche l’uso della corona per recitare il rosario fu un primo passo tecnologico, e ora ne compiamo un altro a sostegno della preghiera…”. Vincenzo Coccoli di Euro Digital Equipment, l’azienda che ha realizzato il Rosario Digitale (qui una sua breve intervista) aggiunge che “si tratta di un innovativo progetto digitale di supporto alla fede, concepito per mettere contemporaneamente in contatto più persone e dar loro la possibilità di aggregarsi in gruppi di preghiera”. L’applicazione è accessibile gratuitamente all’indirizzo www.prexcommunion.com (dove sono presenti i contributi registrati di monsignor Giovanni Tonucci, che lo introduce ed impartisce la benedizione finale) e a pagamento dai cellulari più evoluti o dagli Smart-Phone. L’idea è senz’altro buona, ora si tratterà di vedere come verrà recepita dal mondo della Rete e –soprattutto- se l’idea medesima corrisponde ad un bisogno reale. È la dura legge del Web.

Culturing brain material and plugging it into robots, or "animats" as they are known. Rise of the rat-brained robots. This is no ordinary robot control system - a plain old microchip connected to a circuit board. Instead, the controller nestles inside a small pot containing a pink broth of nutrients and antibiotics. Inside that pot, some 300,000 rat neurons have made - and continue to make - connections with each other. To create the "brain", the neural cortex from a rat fetus is surgically removed and disassociating enzymes applied to it to disconnect the neurons from each other. The researchers then deposit a slim layer of these isolated neurons into a nutrient-rich medium on a bank of electrodes, where they start reconnecting.
