In October I wrote a post listing some of the upcoming healthcare marketing award competition deadlines (http://tinyurl.com/yk5yo3z). Now that we’ve reached December, we are in the heart of award entry season. There are several deadlines on the horizon, and some of them are for the longest running healthcare marketing competitions:

• The 27th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards – I received an email blast announcing this year’s competition just last week. The early deadline for submissions is January 28, 2010. For more information, go to http://tinyurl.com/ddzq98. This competition is produced by Healthcare Marketing Report.
• The 9th Annual Aster Awards – I recently received a save the date card for the Aster Awards. The early deadline is February 27, 2010. Late deadline is March 15, 2010. For more information go to http://www.AsterAwards.com. The Aster Awards are produced by the folks at Marketing Healthcare Today magazine.
• The 7th Annual Service Industry Awards (SIAA) – The deadline for this competition has been extended to December 18, 2009, according to an email message I received on December 3rd. To enter go to http://www.siaawards.com/.
• The 14th Annual Webby Awards – Final entry deadline is now December 18, 2009.  Go to http://www.webbyawards.com.
• The 16th Annual Communicator Awards – Final entry deadline is January 15, 2010. Go to http://www.communicatorawards.com. There are new categories this year for social media and social responsibility.
• Lamplighter Awards – For those of you who are in New England, the New England Society for Healthcare Communications’ annual Lamplighter Awards have a submission deadline of January 29, 2010. For more information go to http://www.neshco.org. Also note that their spring symposium will be held May 24-26, 2010 at the StoweFlake Resort in Stowe, Vermont.
• SHSMD Speakers Proposals Due - SHSMD sent out its call for speakers for the 2010 conference in Chicago. The submissions are due by Friday, January 15, 2010. For more information go to http://www.shsmd.org.

En attendant d’annoncer en avril prochain les Webby Awards qui récompensent chaque année les meilleures initiatives du Web (Actualité, publicité, vidéo,…), l’Académie Internationale des arts et des sciences numériques vient de désigner les 10 événements qui ont marqué le Web ces 10 dernières années.

1. Craiglist (2000) s’étend aux Etats-Unis. Craiglist n’est pas connu en France, mais il s’agit d’un site de petites annonces régionalisées qui connaît un énorme succès outre-Atlantique. C’est un peu leur BonCoin.fr à eux mais qui s’est développé sur 50 pays.

2. Lancement d’AdWords (2000), le système de lien publicitaire que chacun (entreprise ou particulier) peut acheter aux enchères. Quand un internaute entre un mot-clé que vous avez acheté dans le moteur de recherche de Google, un lien menant vers votre site apparait en haut de la page, dans un espace réservé aux liens commerciaux (sur fond jaune en haut et fond blanc à droite). ce système a fait la fortune de Google et de ses fondateurs : lorsque le lien apparaît à l’écran, l’annonceur ne paie rien, c’est lorsque l’internaute clique sur le lien commercial que Google facture l’annonce (quelques centimes de $) au détenteur du lien.

3. Wikipedia (2001), le projet encyclopédique en ligne gratuit rédigé et corrigé par les internautes eux-même. Avec ses 14 millions d’articles et ses 300 millions de visiteurs mensuels, Wikipedia a été adopté par les étudiants du monde entier. Un phénomène qui adonné un sacré coup de vieux aux encyclopédies classiques (Universalis, Encyclopaedia Britannica,…) et numériques comme Encarta qui a récemment mis la clé sous la porte. Wikipedia soulève cependant un certain nombre de critiques de la part de détracteurs peu enclins à faire confiance à la “sagesse des foules”. On en parle régulièrement dans les page d’ASLN.

4. La disparition de Napster (2001). Et oui, dans le passé, pour télécharger de la musique gratuitement, il fallait se connecter à Napster. C’était illégal mais plus simple à maîtriser pour des Majors qui étaient loin de croire au succès du MP3 ! Napster a dû fermer et le système de Peer to Peer (P2P) s’est développé : l’internaute ne télécharge plus des fichiers stockés sur un serveur (Napster) mais stockés sur les milliers de PC interconnectés par le biais d’une application de P2P. Chacun met à disposition du monde entier ce qu’il a lui-même téléchargé !

5. Google entre en Bourse (2004). En 2009, Google est capitalisée à hauteur de 200 milliards de $. Une somme difficile à appréhender. La fortune de Google s’est construite sur la vente de liens publicitaires : AdWords et AdSense. Je rappelle que Google n’ a pas construit son business sur ses contenus car le moteur de recherche n’en possède pas ! Google “se contente” d’indexer tous les contenus créés par les autres… L’idée étant biensûr d’indexer le mieux possible pour que l’internaute trouve toujours réponse à ses questions… et le plus vite possible. Enfin, cet état de fait est sensiblement en train de changer car Google stocke maintenant des contenus : Des vidéos sur YouTube, des articles sur Knol (concurrent de Wikipedia), des données sensibles (documents personnels ou professionnels) à travers Google Docs et ses services d’application en ligne. Mais ne nous trompons pas, le coeur du business de Google reste la vente de liens publicitaires… avec désormais en ligne de mire le marché des publicités sur l’internet mobile.

6. La révolution vidéo menée par YouTube. 20 heures ! Voilà la quantité de vidéo envoyée chaque minute sur les serveurs de YouTube. Un phénomène qu’avait anticipé Google en rachetant le site pour 1,65 milliards de $ alors que le service ne rapportait pas un cent ! Et coûtait même déjà une petite fortune en bande passante et en serveurs. On peut d’ailleurs affirmer sans risque que si Google n’avait pas racheté le site, ce dernier n’existerait plus ! Google tente aujourd’hui de monétiser cette colossale quantité de contenus (pub en bas des vidéos,…) mais avec peu de succès pour l’instant. Peu importe ! Google peut se permettre un gouffre financier (2 millions de $ par jour selon certains analystes) comme YouTube. Quand M. ToutLeMonde aura YouTube dans son salon et plus seulement sur son PC, quand YouTube proposera des contenus à haute valeur ajoutée payants ou générant des revenus publicitaires (films, documentaires,…) alors Google récoltera les fruits de ses investissements.

7. Facebook pour tous. Réservé aux étudiants jusqu’en 2006, le réseau social aux 300 millions de membres a modifié les comportements de plusieurs générations qui utilisent chacune à leur manière l’outil communautaire. On en parle souvent dans ASLN.

8. Le lancement de l’iPhone (2007). Encore une fois, Apple a réussi à réinventer un produit et les comportements qui vont avec ! 1er smartphone à offrir une vraie expérience du web mobile (même affichage et même navigation que sur un PC Mac). 1er appareil mobile tactile… vraiment tactile ! Un touché encore inégalé, une réactivité hors norme en font un appareil exceptionnel. Enfin, le haut niveau de personnalisation de l’iPhone réalisable grâce aux 100 000 applications (gratuites ou payantes) téléchargeable sur l’AppStore est probablement un élément décisif dans le succès de l’éco-système iPhone. Comme toujours, Apple a surpris le consommateur et la concurrence en anticipant les usages et les besoins. Un exploit visionnaire déjà réalisé avec l’apparition de la souris, l’apparition et la disparition des lecteur de disquettes et de DVD, le lancement de l’iPod à l’ergonomie jamais égalée ou l’élaboration de l’iTunes Music Store ! Le monde des technologies ne s’est pas privée de critiquer l’iPhone (distribution exclusive, téléphone trop cher, incompatibilité flash, pas de SMS ni de MMS, système de l’AppStore fermé et opaque,…) mais le fait est que les plus grands n’ont d’autres choix aujourd’hui que de… copier ! Micosoft (Windows Mobile et maintenant Windows Phone), RIM (Blackberry), Google (Androïd), Nokia, Dell et tous les autres font marcher la photocopieuse et tentent de rattraper leur retard technologique et marketing. Une concurrence vertueuse pour le consommateur : Si Apple a réveillé l’internet Mobile qui sommeillait profondément en France, la marque à la Pomme a fait réagir la concurrence tant du côté des opérateurs que des fabricants. Un phénomène qui a sérieusement tiré les prix vers le bas… y compris celui de l’iPhone.

9. La campagne présidentielle américaine (2008). La dernière campagne présidentielle a révélé un président qui a su exploiter le potentiel d’internet. Tant pour mobiliser les foules que les donateurs. Facebook et YouTube ont pour cela joué un rôle déterminant. Obama aime internet et internet le lui rend bien. On en parle régulièrement dans les pages d’AujourdHuiSurLeNet.

10. Les manifestations iraniennes (2009). Les élections présidentielles iraniennes ont donné naissance à des manifestations violemment réprimées. Les médias traditionnels ayant été écartés, les manifestants se sont tournés vers les nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication : échange d’infos et envoi de vidéos par mobile, utilisation d’internet et de Twitter. Le site de micro-blogging a alors bénéficié d’un coup de projecteur inédit en France où il est bien moins connu que Facebook par exemple. Bref, Twitter a permis au monde de suivre les événements iraniens. Twitter se prête d’ailleurs très bien aux événements inattendus de grande envergure : déchaînement climatique, tremblement de terre, manifestations privées de couverture madiatique, crash aérien,… Il permet une circulation rapide de l’information que ce soit à l’attention des populations ou des secours.

Il n’y a rien à dire, les événements pré-cités méritent de figurer dans l’Histoire d’internet mais la dimension internationale, censée être incarné par l’Académie à l’origine de ce “classement”, a totalement été exclue.  On peut même dire que les événements ainsi consacrés sont 100% américains ! On peut en déduire que les américains ont un sérieux problème d’égocentrisme ou bien que les nouveaux usages s’imaginent, s’inventent, se concrétisent et se développent avant tout dans un petit coin de l’Ouest-américain qu’on a coutume d’appeler la Silicone Valley…

 Barack Obama’s election as US President, launch of Wikipedia and emergence of the iPhone have been listed among the 10 most influential moments on the Internet in the past decade, the annual Webby awards said.

Other events singled out by the New York-based International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which has presented the annual Webby awards since 1996, were the Iranian election in 2009 when protests demonstrated the power of Twitter and other social network in reshaping democracy.

“The Internet is the story of the decade because it was the catalyst for change in not just every aspect of our everyday lives, but in everything from commerce and communication to politics and pop culture,” said David-Michel Davies, the executive director of The Webby Awards, in a statement.

It said, “The recurring theme among all of the milestones on our list is the Internet’s capacity to circumvent old systems and put more power into the hands of ordinary people.”

Some of the most influential Internet moments of the decade on Webby’s list are — US presidential campaign in 2008, Iranian election protests in 2009 when Twitter proved vital in organising demonstrations and as a protest too,Wikipedia, the free open-source encyclopaedia, Facebook opens to non-college students and Twitter takes off in 2006 and the iPhone debuts in 2007.

I would like to commend the Webby Award site for their innovation as well. Although it is probably against their policy, they should give themselves some sort of award for simply coming up with the idea. I like that they have been able to segment the internet into different groups and analyze which sites of similar content are the most effective. The chosen winners appear to be very deserving as well and it clear that Webby Awards (as well as the People’s Choice winners) were very thought out.

The website we took a look at during class was astonishing to me. Saab did an unbelievable job at making that website incredibly easy to use. While I’m not sure that website will actually get people to buy Saab cars or not, it was more than deserving of the top spot in the visual aesthetics category. They paid a lot of attention to the details and I think that’s what made it so easy to appreciate. Every little movement on the site was crisp and loading times were eliminated completely. Saab was able to stimulate our senses effectively by adding a good deal of movement and sound. Well done Saab.

I also clicked around and found another website that I enjoyed. This one is just more amusing than anything but who doesn’t like a good chuckle every now and then? I scrolled through a lot of the categories of winners on the Webby Awards site and finally I saw telecommunications, which sounded pretty interesting to me, so I was curious what the winning site looked like. The winning site was something called Balloonacy.

From what I can understand, the website promotes an online balloon race of sorts. Players were able to personalize their balloons in the shape of animals and race across the internet, or what Balloonacy called “internet miles”. The winner of these races won a vacation for 8. To be honest I’m still not sure I’ve grasped the concept 100% so anyone who could offer any further explanation that would be awesome! I do know one thing though, and that’s that the site really grabs you attention with the orange balloon animals, and the video that they have created is very well done and engaging.

It’s official – Hostelworld’s videos are the best on the net! The global web community has voted Hostelworld.com’s city video guides as the “Best Travel & Adventure Video” of the year in the Webby People’s Voice Awards.

The Webby Awards are famous for their famous five-word speech limit. Past Webby Award winners — and their speeches — include Al Gore (“Please don’t recount this vote”) and Stephen Colbert (“Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.”).

César Maderal, antiguo alumno de Cámara e Iluminación Cinematográfica ha obtenido el Primer Premio en PHOTOESPAÑA 2009. El 19 de Junio a las 16h. es la inauguración de la exposición que lleva el título “El agua de Madrid”, en los jardines de la Fundación Canal (c/Mateo Inurria, 2) Plaza de Castilla . Estará abierta hasta el 26 de Julio. Dará comienzo con la entrega de premios, luego la inauguración de la exposición y seguirá con el fotomaratón que Canon junto a PhotoEspaña organizan anualmente.

Por su parte, Luis Bernal, antiguo alumno de la Diplomatura de Dirección Cinematográfica y Rodrigo Aldana, antiguo alumno del Curso de Cámara e Iluminación para Cine, han recogido en Nueva York el prestigiosos Webby Award a la Mejor Serie de Internet por “The Ten Commandments of la Vida Loca”. Aquí os dejamos el enlace al vídeo de la recogida. Esta entrega de premios, considerados como los Óscars de internet, tiene la particularidad de que los discursos sólo pueden ser de un máximo de 5 palabras.

Por su parte, José Martín Rosete, antiguo alumno de Cámara e iluminación Cinematográfica, sigue recogiendo premios por su fotografía en Basket Bronx. Este cortometraje es ya un clásico en el panorama cortometrajista español y a su innumerable lista de premios acaba de sumar el AEC a la mejor fotografía en el Festival de Cine Ibérico de Badajoz.

Es la bomba, tal cual. Basado en una tecnología llamada Cinematic Artificial Intelligence, cuya funcionalidad es la de simular el criterio de un editor de video, un grupo de profesionales de la industria audiovisual funda en 2005,Animoto. Gracias a nuestro amigo y consejero Gerardo Bañales, llegamos a él. Luego ya nos dimos cuenta de todo lo que hay detrás del sitio, recientemente premiado como el mejor servicio de aplicaciones de la red por parte de los Webby Awards. El video que verán sobre Bolten Inc., lo produje -bueno lo hizo Animoto, realmente- en menos de media hora. Sólo abrí un albúm en Facebook con las fotos, accedí a mi cuenta de Animoto, ingresé después a mi cuenta en Facebook, le ordené a Animoto que subiera las fotos del respectivo albúm, esperé a que subieran, luego seleccioné la música y listo. Lo exporté a YouTube y tan tan. Se los recomiendo. También les dejo un video explicativo sobre Animoto. Existen tres modalidades de uso: la gratis -de ahí que la calidad de la imagen no sea tan buena, aunque igual se pone piel de gallina al ver la chulada-, la que cuesta 30 dólares al año y una diseñada para profesionales con valor de 249. Ah, y por cierto, también pueden acceder desde el iPhone.

Hebben we er daar al geen Miljoenen van? Jep! Maar Nalden.net is niet de eerste de beste.  Sinds hij in het engels schrijft is Nalden wereldwijd populair. Daar zat geld. Hij maakte zijn blog rendabel door wallpaper artvertising. Stukken aangenamer dan die Google-aids.

The Webby Awards were held a few nights ago which are like the Oscars of websites. The winners are only allowed to use 5 words in their acceptance speeches and some of them are REALLY funny. After reading this story, Elizabeth had the idea to do all songs with five word titles.  ”One Thing Leads To Another”, “Can’t Get There From Here” and “Don’t Do Me Like That” are some of the early choices.
