You know, there are a lot of places in addition to the Amazon website where you can find free books.

In an ironic twist, Fictionwise is a Barnes and Noble company and offers a lot of books for sale, but also has a section for free books they offer from time-to-time; I say it’s ironic because Barnes & Noble has launched the nook in direct competition to the Kindle and are currently sold out until after Christmas. You will find a lot of authors you have never heard of before and will probably pick up a gem or two – I have over the past few months. They come in a variety of formats for various ebook readers (not just Barnes and Nobles nook ebook reader). Registration is required to download a book, but registration is also free.

“The thing is…” is “A magazine of cultural commentary and creative writing”, so the website says.

They have reviews, and music stuff, 5 songs you should have heard, etc. My favourite are the articles about life as a twenty-something, relationships, parties.. well, it’s stuff I like anyway.

These ones are good:

You Need A Relationship

You Don’t Need A Relationship

My ear over the weekend does not feel stuffed, so I’m hoping it’s cleared up. To make sure though I’m going to leave it for a few days before I put my right hearing aid back in.

This morning I went out to buy the necessary things for when I buy my Syrian Hamster. The cage was set up by dinner ready, and I went to my local pet shop in the afternoon, for my hamster. I decided I was having a female by then. (Could not make my mind up this morning). I will show a picture of her soon here on my blog. I’ve called her Bubbles.

I picked up my parcel at the Post Office this morning, and I was sooo excited when I knew where it was from! My t-shirt and tank top from Speak Up Librarian Shop has arrived. Yipee! I will post photos here as promised later, modelling them.

The super footwear made in Australia has swept this country by storm.

However, along with great popularity, as Hollywood stars of all ages have been seen wearing these comfortable shoes, also comes super high prices.

By a quick Internet search, you will be able to find extremely discounted shoes, slippers, and boots that are a fraction of their steep original sales price.

Finding a pair of uggs at discount boots websites is not difficult, and a quick and easy search will save you a great deal of money.

When searching for uggs on discount boots websites, first consider the website itself. If the site is offering shoes, slippers, or boots at too good of a price, be warned—they might be counterfeit!

Most online stores are legitimate and will provide you with authentic products, but there are some that will prey on unsuspecting patrons.

The best way to find a pair of inexpensive Australian made footwear is to search for after the season sales.

These discounts will enable you to find quality footwear that are guaranteed to be authentic.

Online stores are excellent methods of finding these ultra popular boots at inexpensive prices.

Another way to find boots, shoes, and slippers for much less than in stores is to search internet auction sites.

Again, be aware of anyone selling suspicious merchandise that may potentially be counterfeited.

Since you can wear your shoes, boots, or slippers all season long, you will get the most use out of your new footwear.

If you do decide to purchase footwear from internet stores or auctions, be completely aware of any return policies enforced by the store.

If your new shoes do not fit or you are not satisfied with your purchase, knowing these policies will be able to assist you greatly in receiving a refund or return.

You may need to check into a internet store or websites auction before you decide to purchase to ensure the seller is reputable.

PropertyADD Estate Agency Software have announced the release of a new function enabling agents to send twitter updates straight from their desktops to their community of followers. The new development, the first of its kind from one of the major UK estate Agency software companies, fits in with the movement of agents wanting to embrace social media as a way to personalise their online activity. Having spoken to other software providers I know that others are looking at ways to follow suit.

The system automatically creates a tweet for agents to customise and then send out and whilst I certainly wouldn’t recommend agents splurge out all their listings via twitter, as part of a balanced communications plan this functionality is ideal for new instructions, price reductions and pre-marketing teasers.

Martin Smith of PropertyADD says “Twitter is really taking the social media world by storm and we want to ensure we make the tools available to streamline our client’s activity in this area. By adding this functionality we have simplified one aspect of using twitter so that agents can focus more time interacting in other ways.

This new feature sits alongside PropertyADDs ‘Clever Website Technology’ package, a suite of tools focussed on improving the interaction between an agent’s web site and its visitors. This package includes an agent blogging tool and I personally think agents that don’t have a regularly updated blog are seriously missing a trick.

When it comes to company web sites, most agents settle for a brochure style site which gives no opportunity for interaction. Tools such as these can play an important part in helping you to get to grips with this interactive approach and can help you to focus effort on producing the kind of content that will interest your community and set you up as credible experts.

By Design, a fantastic Radio National Program recently focused on the accessibility of the Internet

By Design, a fantastic Radio National Program recently focused on the accessibility of the Internet for people who are visually or hearing impaired. Having a website that is accessible to everyone in the community is critical for nonprofits and in particular for campaign websites. Access allows people to connect and participate in social and economic activities offered online.

This project interviews Dr. Scott Hollier Project manager of new media Media at Access Australia. This organisation is a nonprofit whose ‘role is to provide information about media access and to support the development and application of technological solutions to media access issues’.

The good news is that technology has come in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years developing tools giving people greater access. For example, many computer manufacturers build in tools at no extra cost. Macs are pretty good straight out of the box.

Both Internet Explorer & Firefox have the ability to enlarge text, hear text and read what’s going on in a video through sub titles. Dr Hollier went over the By Design website and audited it accessibility features. One tip he gave was to always put captions on photos describing the photo. The caption can then be read aloud.

The Media Access website is worth checking out in order to find tools and resources.

You can download the audio to this program or listen now.

http://movingcities.org/about/

movingcities is a Shanghai-based think-thank investigating the role that architecture and urbanism play in shaping the contemporary city.
Established in 2007 by Bert de Muynck [BE] and Mónica Carriço [PT], movingcities publishes, collaborates, talks and walks, and operate as embedded architects.

After operating from Beijing [2007-2009], movingcities moved in October 2009 to Shanghai .

Burj Dubai | Dubai, 2007
For movingcities studio studies are less challenging than work in the open urban air, where from minute to minute people, space, architecture and society vibrates and transforms. Attending to the ephemeral layers interacting between men and architecture, society and the city, movingcities is about capturing the movements of time and vision about to be lost and to be emerging.

To understand the contemporary complexity and reality of cities we have to engage with them in a different way; not as fixed entities, stable places, but as organisms that can grow, shrink, think, perform and act accordingly to influences from the inside as well as from the outside.

movingcities is not as interested in conditions of transition as such, but rather in processes of intensification, circulation, accumulation, formation and standardisation that this time of transition is provoking.

movingcities is about understanding the role that architecture and urbanism are playing in shaping the future of the contemporary city.

Just what the title says. Things I would love to get for Christmas but are too expensive for anyone

Just what the title says. Things I would love to get for Christmas but are too expensive for anyone giving me gifts. My parents might swing one of these (or maybe two since my birthday is the day before Christmas) but it’s still fun to dream .

1. New Camera! Preferably a Nikon D40. Here she is:

Large and in charge. It’s a basic, entry-level DSLR. I wouldn’t mind getting another point and shoot camera since my last one was so great. I had a little Casio Alan gave me for Christmas two years ago that worked great and shot great clear/sharp pictures. Unfortunately it got a little damp after our Spring Break trip to St. George Island. It worked for a couple of months after that but the pictures weren’t of the same quality as before and it eventually died. I never really had an interest in photography before my Casio (but then again I never had a personal digital camera to use) but now I have the bug. Photography combines well with my love of the outdoors and after the initial investment is cheap and easy. I think the D40 would be perfect for a semi serious hobbyist such as myself. Used ones run around $325 on ebay.

2. A handheld GPS for hiking and geocaching. I just heard about geocaching recently and would love to get into doing it. Once again, it’s a hobby that would combine perfectly with my love of outdoors and photography! If you don’t know about geocaching visit this website. I haven’t done a lot of research on GPS devices mainly because I don’t know anyone who owns one. If I had one to play around with and therefore know what features I wanted and didn’t want I could do some better research. I have read some of the forums on the geocaching website and this one is highly recommended.

It’s a Delorme PN 40. They run anywhere from $300 -400 on ebay, dependent upon what features it comes with, which is also confusing. I am not sure what all software/maps I need. I’m gonna check out REI.com in a bit and see what everyone over there has to say. And try to find someone who owns one and talk to them.

3. A Kitchen Aid mixer.

Alan wants this to be our “to ourselves” present this year. These things are like the Cadillacs of mixers. Dependent upon what series you get they run anywhere from $250 – 500. I think the lower end would probably work for us. Alan does most of the cooking so I would benefit in a more indirect manner (EATING!) than actually using it. I do like to bake but I don’t have nice pans or a consistent oven so my baking comes out weird and then I get angry and or frustrated. Granted, these things last forever so when I can afford nice pans and move into somewhere with a better kitchen set up, it will probably still be kicking.

4. New outdoor/casual jacket. I have been wearing a lightweight North Face jacket that is technically Alan’s for the past couple of years. He got a heavier Colombia jacket and passed the North Face onto me. It’s a great little jacket. Not too heavy so it’s not a pain in the ass to carry around. If it’s a little colder I just put on a few more layers underneath and it works perfect. I actually did that last year when we went to the Cohutta wilderness in freezing temperatures and I felt comfortable the whole time. The jacket is waterproof and knocks the wind off so it’s great for scooter riding. I do have a few complaints, only one of which is really a design flaw but a MAJOR one in my opinion. It has no hand pockets!!!!!! There are pockets all over it but none convenient for hand use. What the hell?? This aspect of the jacket angers me every single time I put it on. The other two flaws are my fault being: I burnt a hole in the arm on the scooter exhaust pipe and Pepper chewed the drawstring at the bottom out so it no longer tightens around my waist. Anyway, I definitely need a new one. I don’t really have a jacket in mind because it’s impossible to shop for a good fit online. Plus it’s really hard to tell how bulky jackets are online. I’ll probably try to stick to North Face since the other one was an awesome jacket. After Christmas REI usually has good sales so hopefully I’ll get some Christmas monies and be able to snag something good.

5. Some more professional/nicer clothes. I’m about to graduate and would love some good-looking interview clothes. I always love pretty heels (not too high though, I am already Amazonian as is) and a good dress. Dresses are so versatile and can be worn in hot or cold with so many different things. Also, a pair of tall black boots would be awesome. My winter wardrobe is so confused right now because all my clothes are black but my boots are brown and this causes much agonizing for me! Here are some things I wouldn’t mind having:
