Wedding invitations are one of the first tasks that you need to complete when planning a wedding. Th

Wedding invitations are one of the first tasks that you need to complete when planning a wedding. These invitations are important because they not only let people know when and where your wedding will take place, but they also collect information that you will need to have in order to complete your wedding planning. Since you are investing a lot of money in your wedding invitations you will want to put some thought into each component of your invitation. If you want to add a little whimsy to your wedding invitations then consider these creative ideas for stuffing wedding invitations.

Option #1 – Poetic Bookmarks

One creative item that you can add to your wedding invitations is a poetic bookmark. This bookmark can be designed around a romantic poem that reflects the theme of your wedding. You will want to laminate the bookmark and add a decorative ribbon to one end. On one side you will print the poem and on the other side you can print information about your wedding, such as when and where it will be held.

Option #2 – Mini-Movie Posters

If you are having a movie themed wedding or wedding reception then consider slipping in a mini-movie poster into your wedding invitation envelope. The posters that you select should reflect the theme of your wedding and wedding reception and it should also reflect the personality of the wedding couple.

Option #3 – Candy

Today you can get a number of different candies imprinted with your own message. For example, you can have chocolate bars wrapped in labels that deliver a specific message, such as information about when and where your wedding will be held. You can also have smaller candies like M&Ms and candy hearts imprinted with short messages such as the couple's names, wedding date and so on.

Option #4 – Mini-Puzzle Pieces

Another fun insert for wedding invitations are mini-puzzle pieces. You can make a mini puzzle by overlaying a puzzle template over a picture of the couple or over a graphic of your wedding invitation. Then you will print out the mini puzzle on photograph paper or cardstock. Then you will cut the pieces apart and insert them into the envelope. If you include a mini-puzzle in your wedding invitations make sure you also include instructions that explains what the pieces are and why they need to be assembled.

Option #5 – Promotional Items

Another option that you have is to include promotional items like pens, notebooks, keychains or even a calendar with your wedding information imprinted on them. This is a fun way to announce your wedding and a great way to give each person you invite a special gift to remember your special day.

Save the Date cards are typically sent 6 months to a year before a wedding in order to allow people to begin making travel arrangements. We started talking around the office today about how this time of year, couples could combine Save the Date and Holiday cards into one.

We ordered our company holiday card this past week, but also fell in love with these photo cards:

We love all the different designs! You could insert your favorite photograph along with a “Happy Holidays” and “Save the Date” message. You will save money on the postage and will not use as many paper products. It would be the perfect example of the old adage ”killing two birds with one stone” (except we don’t encourge killing birds or throwing stones…)!

Have you ever thought about combing your holiday cards with a Save the Date?

I am loving how this is turning out….too cute!!

I added some red/oranges to the female cardinal. and also changed the rose on the bottom left hand corner and on the response card. Also, overall the images on this invitation have better coloring than the last version I created…I thought that it was a bit washed out overall…this one the graphics are a touch brighter and slightly bolder…what are your thoughts?…do you like this coloring better?

Also, I kept the red and white middle layer since you mentioned you liked that. For the back layer of cardstock I used the blue shimmer textured cardstock that was used on the very first sample that I sent you in the mail….which blue cardstock do you prefer?

When you are organizing a summer marriage and attempting to find invitation ideas, initially you must consider the marriage theme and the marriage location.

first off you need to understand that the location is key. If you would like to hold your marriage day on the beach, you are able to add some sand in the invitation envelopes. You may use shells and even get giant shells that you write the invite on.

You can create an invite as a fridge magnet. Indeed, this is a good idea, because folks put it on their refigerator and will have a reminder for your marriage. You can include assorted things like footage and make it private by making them yourself.

this will also economize and you can create them to look really professional by employing gemstones, pressed flowers and leaves, as well as fancy card to print them on.

of course, it is a bit of time consumption, but you can always rope in some friends and family members to make it special. You can get special invitation making kits that you can use and you may also make the invitation very simple.

Being unique does not mean that they have to be complex and full of stuff. They can be made very easy but made in a unique way.
They could be released on a bit of fabric or you’ll be able to find that fascinating unique wedding invitations are made from items that mean something to you.

you could find some that you may use as they are mentioned, but you can also get some inspiration from them so you can make your own wedding invitations that are unique and creative.

Here are my quick wedding invitation mailing tips:

1. Before you mail your wedding invitations, take a completely assembled wedding invitation sample inside of an envelope to the post office and let a postmaster (not a machine) tell you the required and adequate postage to mail your wedding invitations. The last thing you want is your wedding invitations sent back to you undeliverable due to insufficient postage.

2. Mail your invitations 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. For long distance weddings or destination weddings, consider mailing your wedding invitations around 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding, especially if you did not mail a save the date to your guests. This will give your guests some time to complete their travel arrangements in time for your special day.

3. Request your guests to reply by at least 3 weeks to the wedding. This will allow you call the late responders and confirm your final guest count for the wedding reception venue.

Cheers!

Wedding Invitations are typically mailed six to eight weeks before the wedding and in some cases four to six weeks before the wedding. Most couples who did not mail their guests a save the date tend to mail their invitations earlier in the six to eight week time frame. Frankly I always recommend the former. Sending your wedding invitations earlier allows you more time to compile and verify your responses or RSVPs. Another thing to keep in mind is – more and more wedding reception venues are requesting a final guest count earlier than “the traditional two weeks before the wedding” deadline.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when so-called “wedding experts” tell nearly-weds what they can or

One of my biggest pet peeves is when so-called “wedding experts” tell nearly-weds what they can or cannot do. What is right for one couple will not be right for the next. One topic that seems to bring the worst out in many old school minds, are the use of “Evites” for your wedding celebrations. When I read an absolute edict from an “expert” stating, “never ever send email invitations,” it left me with two questions: “Why not?” and “Who are they to tell a bridal couple what is right or wrong for their celebration?” Evites aren’t illegal, right?

Now clearly Evites are not for everyone, but for those who are watching their budgets, or are truly eco-conscious and planning a green wedding, Evites might be the perfect option.

There are many websites that can help design an email invitation and many have great systems to help keep track on who has and has not responded to your kind invitation. One site I really like is Myinvitationlink. This site offers many options to create highly personalized engagement party invites, save the date, wedding invitations, wedding announcements and thank you cards. They make it easy to design a “love story” pictorial including many pictures of the bridal couple with beautiful musical accompaniment and personalized text. This is a great way to share pictures with guests before and after the wedding. Green, inexpensive, personal and creative, what can be better than that?

Now some of us have a few friends or great grandparent’s that don’t own a computer, so you may want to consider creating a few paper invitations for those you think need to be mailed an invitation. Several of the email invitation companies also offer print-ready templates, so you can email some of your invitations and mail others. Some actually will print and mail them for you! Think of your paper invites as a supplement to your email invites or vice versa, which ever works best for you.

Evites may not feel right to you for your actual wedding invitation but consider them for all the events surrounding your wedding. Bachelorette parties, Bridal party get-togethers, rehearsal dinner, or a post wedding brunch all need invites – you may want to take a peek at the following sites to decide if emailed invitations may be right for these ancillary events. Whatever you choose, that’s up to you! Take a peek at these sites and see what you think.

My invitation link

Paperless Post

Greenvelope

OurWedvite.com (does Evites and has print-ready templates as well)

Pingg

Evite: (free but comes with advertisements on side of invites)

Question for those newlyweds out there – Did you email any of your invitations? Tell us how that worked for you. We really want to know!

I’ve been sitting on this one a while, waiting to finally have it photographed properly (by the brilliant Gabe Hopkins), and that day hath arrived. One of my favorite musicians Denison Witmer hit me up about doing his wedding invitations. He and his wife Jennie were both great to work with and I tried to incorporate elements of both of them into the design (she enjoys knitting, and he is obviously into music).

They wanted a design that could all be mailed as one piece, and since the postcards have to be 4×6 and the whole thing folded-in has to be under a certain size for postage, there was really only so many ways it could go mathematically.

I’m very pleased with the results. Click through for hi-res shots at my flickr page.

The top 3 wedding invitation printing methods are Offset Printing, Thermography Printing and Fine Letterpress Printing.

Two Ink Thermographed Wedding Invitations at Event House

:: Offset Printing – $: Offset printing is one of the most commonly used printing available today. It is also the most economical printing process. The inked image is transferred (or “offset”) from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. The ink and images lay flat on the paper. Request a sample from your invitation designer or wedding stationer.

TIP – When interviewing invitation companies – ask if your invitations are printed on a digital commercial press or on a laser printer. Some things may be home-made, your “dream” Invitations should not be one of them.

:: Thermography Printing – $$: Thermography popularly known as raised printing has a raised surface and when complete appears shiny. Thermography produces raised printing similar to engraving using a different process and also provides a less expensive alternative to foil stamping, embossing, or UV coating. In thermography, a special powder is added to the ink printed on the paper. The printed piece is heated and the powder and ink mixture dries to form a raised effect on the paper.

:: Letterpress Printing – $$$: Is one of the most elegant printing processes available. Letterpress process is printing text with movable type in which the raised surface of the type is inked and then pressed against a smooth substance to obtain an image in reverse. Request a sample from your invitation designer or wedding stationer.

Top 7 Wedding Invitation Mistakes

1. Not ordering the right quantity – This can go one way or the other, either ordering too man

1. Not ordering the right quantity – This can go one way or the other, either ordering too many invitations or not ordering enough. A popular example of ordering too many is – allocating two invitations to a Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, instead of allocating one invitation to them as they are a couple that live at the same address and should only receive one.

2. Not allowing enough time for the design, production and mailing of your wedding invitations. I have observed that many brides and grooms leave the selection of their wedding invitations to the last task on their wedding to do list. The danger of leaving this stage of their wedding plans to the last minute results in two things – the unnecessary stress of a time crunch and the incurring of rush charges in some cases. For more tips on this, read my blog post “When should I order my wedding invitations?”

3. Not proofing adequately - Not properly reviewing your invitation design proofs is a big budget and time buster. Be sure to take the time to review every single detail on your wedding invitation design proofs – check dates, spellings, venues, addresses, sizes, ink selection, check everything from A to Z. Do not overlook any detail for any reason.

4. Not properly addressing your wedding invitation envelopes with correctly spelled guest names and titles.

5. Using poor materials in the design of your invitations such as poor quality papers and color combinations, poorly manufactured embellishments and accents.

6. Not applying adequate postage. For some brides, they do exceptionally well until this point. To avoid this mistake, simply take a complete invitation set to the post office and have a postmaster check the weight of your sample and provide you with the adequate postage required to mail your wedding invitations to your guests.

7. Not seeking the guidance of a professional wedding invitation designer or stationer. A professional wedding invitationer provides top to bottom guidance from proper design aesthetics to wedding invitation etiquette and everything in between. Be sure to research and interview a professional who will be patient and flexible enough to work with you every step of the design process.

Cheers!

Selecting your wedding invitations should not be a rushed process. I say this because your wedding invitations are the first glimpse your guests get into your special day. For this reason, plan enough time for the design, proofing, assembling and mailing of your wedding invitations. You also want to include adequate time for your guests to reply or RSVP.

Mary Custom Pocket Wedding Invitations by Event House

An industry average for most wedding invitation designers, stationers, invitationers or printers is approximately 6 to 8 weeks for complete production. For some an average turn around is 4 to 6 weeks. No matter the turn around time of your selected stationer, the truth is – you will do yourself much good by allowing ample time for your wedding invitations to be completed in good fashion.

If you think about all of the time frames I have just mentioned you should arrive at the following rough timeline:
1. 6 to 8 weeks before mailing for invitation design and production
2. plus another 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding for sending out wedding invitations
3. You have a grand total time frame of approximately 16 weeks which equals 4 months.

Note that some more elaborate wedding invitation designs require more design and production times. With this said, it is an absolute great idea to start considering your wedding invitations once your wedding venues have been secured. This could be any where from 6 to 9 months before your wedding. This will allow you adequate time to complete this stage of your wedding plans.

The fact is, there are many wedding invitation options out there. Be sure to take your time to research and carefully select “the perfect” wedding invitations for your very special day.

Cheers!

This is a good question – one I hope the following points will help you in making a final decision. Save the dates are always a great handy resource for your guests especially if any of the following scenarios apply to you:

1. I am planning a destination wedding.
2. A portion of my guests will be traveling to the city/destination of my wedding.
3. My wedding falls on or around a holiday.
4. I simply want my guests to pencil in my wedding on their calendars. I don’t want many disappointments.
5. I’ve always dreamed of mailing save the dates for my wedding.

So what is a Save the Date? – A save the date is typically a card, magnet, CD, bookmark that highlights certain essential wedding information such as the couple’s names, the wedding date, the location (city and state or city and country) of the wedding. Other helpful details will include hotel accommodations, transportation or travel arrangements and a wedding website. Lastly, do not forget a simple line stating a formal invitation will follow.

Katie Custom Save the date Card at Event House

When should I send out save the dates? – About six months before the wedding is a great time. Some couples even send theirs as early as a year. The latter occurs with couples planning a destination wedding, especially destination weddings in other countries.

Whatever your reason for wanting to send out save the dates, know this – you can customize or personalize your save the dates the way you want, from as simple as a single postcard to a small travel packet showing your photo, the wedding location map, expected weather and many other details about the wedding location. You may go very formal on your save the dates or stick with a fun casual style – the choice is yours.

Cheers!

Wedding planning can be a time of stress, hard work, lots of phone calls and lots of running about to and from the church, wedding dressmaker, cake maker and florist. And yet there is often a key area of a wedding that can get overlooked in all the planning.

Just think of he first contact you have with your guests. The first thing people get to tell them you are getting married (especially if you have failed to invite them to the engagement party) is the wedding invitation.

The wedding invite is a crucial part of setting the tone and setting of any big day. While a wedding may be the most important day for any bride and groom, often it can be one of several weddings that guests will have been invited to that year.

So choosing a wedding invitations are just as important as selecting the venue and making it stand out from all those other wedding invites that your guest may have received is also important. However, there are some key factors that can help you when selecting a wedding invitation and can ensure you are sending the right message.

* Ensure the card is printed on good quality paper. Japanese and Italian is often the best.

* Ensure the latest printing methods are used. You want the best printing possible to complement the paper.

* Try and get a card to match the them of your wedding. If its a light hearted affair why not select a humorous wedding card but if you are having a traditional wedding why not try a customised wedding invite.

* Make sure you the cards arrive in plenty of time. If there are any mistakes it can often be too late to correct them. Online wedding invitations are great for this as you can often see the card on your PC before it arrives so any errors can be picked up in plenty of time.

* Make sure you order enough cards. Prepare for some extra seats as weddings can often grow in size and not having enough invites will mean you have to send a replacement card which may make your guest feel like a replacement guest.
