Jesal & Asha were united in a day of celebrations earlier this year.  A beautiful ceremony followed by a fun-packed reception held at the Second City Suite gave the Shakini Pro team and all the guests plenty to watch and enjoy. Alison and Ben were married at Community United Methodist church on a wet day in Monticello, MN.  The rain took a break so we could get this couple outside for photos, which was exactly what we were all hoping for.

There was this great grassy “knoll” behind the church, a perfect place for some dramatic photos.

Alison and Ben’s wedding reception was held in downtown St. Cloud, where we snapped a few more shots of this adorable couple.

You know someone. This was my first time photographing a McCharles House Wedding and it was awesome! McCharles House is an intimate, quiet and small wedding venue on the grounds of a beautiful and very authentic Victorian House in Tustin. It even has the Disney wedding gazebo in the back yard! This is a great venue if you want a small intimate wedding and even better if your a fan of the Victorian era or Disney.

Not only was McCharles house a great place for a wedding but the other vendors were excellent. Jay’s catering has to be one of the best wedding meals I’ve ever had and DJ Dave Greenwood was perfect at setting the mood.

Gail and Jorge and their family and friends were great to work with! Jorge was a little uncomfortable in front of the camera at first but as the day went on he opened up and we got some great pictures! Check em out!

We finally did it! 

         I almost thought we’d never get around to starting a blog but, here we are. We hope this tool helps our Brides and their families feel even closer to us as they follow us wedding by wedding!

     The main reason my wife and i are in the business is quite simply because we love….. love. We consider it a great honor and pleasure to be able to capture a couple in love, and all of the many emotions they display on their wedding day.  We hope everyone enjoys our photographs and the experiences we share!

A few days after the wedding we had fun roaming the resort and chatting with some locals. We found puppies on the beach and even took some pictures in the process!! haha

Good help is hard to find. Yesterday we welcomed a new member to our family, he’s cute, fluffy and has a funny personality. Already in training to chase our pesky ducks from our pool he’s had great delight chasing bugs. Loves being up high, upside down and has 5 minute quick rechargeable batteries.

Today is his first day on the job currently sleeping  behind the computer. See good help is hard to find

I was absolutely thrilled to be a part of Heidi and Patrick’s wedding in Cuba on Nov. 16th. My husband Eric, my son Gavin and I felt like we were part of the family down there. Everyone was so nice to us – especially you guys Heidi and Patrick! I was also lucky enough to have Jen and Jer, close friends of ours from Depiction Photography travel down and photograph with us. You’ll see Jen “working hard” in the photos below – haha.

I recently had the great pleasure of attending a wedding — as a guest. My sister’s longtime best friend, Ilana, and her parents have become good friends of my family over the years, ever since Heather and Lani were randomly paired together by the University of Delaware as freshman roommates. Earlier this month, Lani wed her college sweetheart, Matt, with whom she reconnected a few years ago at a friend’s wedding, in a gorgeous ceremony at the New York Botanical Garden.

Though I stayed out of the way of Lani’s team of official photographers, I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures. Since wedding photography is what I love and what I do for a living, I often try to make a few nice images for my friends on their big day. I’ve even included a few in this post of my very pregnant self and my hubby here. So enjoy!

Just before the reception started, I asked Lani & Matt to duck outside with me real quick for a few quick snaps in front of the radiant fall leaves.

This is one of my all-time favorite dancing photos. Heather and Lani love dancing together. One of their most favorite songs is ‘Brick House.’ I love that Lani is captured through Heather’s brick house gesture.

Congratulations, Lani & Matt! Kevin and I couldn’t be more thrilled for you.

Aaaw yea!  These Holgas are from my first wedding of the season down in Mexico.  Heather and Kyle’s wedding-ness at Las Caletas.  Heather loves Holgas and is actually building a darkroom in her and Kyle’s new house in Nashville.  Rad.

I shot four rolls at the wedding and three at the trash-the-dress the next day.  This was no amateur trashing-of-the-dress either.  By the end I was swimming in the ocean, Holga in hand, loaded up with Delta 3200 snapping away.

Holgas are an F’ing process.  No joke, and one I absolutely love.  I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my time editing.  On top of the scanning, scanned Holga files are putting my processor and RAM to work.  I need a faster computer.

These Holgas, all seven of them, are an excerpt from the wedding day.  No TTD’s yet.  Everything is scanned, editing needs doing, but I was so excited to share these with you I just had to get them out.  Don’t worry Trish!  Yours are coming out next! : )

There will be weddings, TTD’s, other personal film projects (now scanned), and much more Mexico goodness blogged next week and in the month of December.

On a personal note, Thursday was the first Thanksgiving I’ve spent in the states and with my family since 2005.  Unbelievable.

These Thanksgivings were spent:

2006, in Querétaro with study-abroad homies.  Paulina cooked up some bomb dinner in her apartment and some spiced-rummy-mexican-hot beverage that I really need the recipe for.

2007, with little job prospects and a fresh college degree, I spent this Thanksgiving working six days a week, for eight dollars a day plus tips, waiting tables in a Mexican restaurant.  Like, an actual Mexican restaurant.  Like, in Mexico.  Speaking Spanish.  I also lived in a three-walled apartment.

2008, this was a lonely one.  I upgraded from my three-walled apartment and I was shooting weddings regularly.  I think I had quesadillas for dinner.

2009, I’m very thankful to be home and to be spending Thanksgiving with my mom and dad’s cooking here in P-town, USA.  Unfortunately I’m cold.

Rainy-day weddings often bring out the fun side of people even more than if they were stood outside on the lawn on a hot sunny day – there’s a determination to have a good time. Or is it just because it’s a wedding?

I reckon Claire & David’s family and friends were going to have a good time whatever, and I have to say produced the funniest Best Man’s speech of 2009.

I don’t know if they were expecting this, but luckily I was!

This is as ‘outside’ as we got, but it was worth it.

Karina and Chris had their wedding at the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel in Santa Barbara. Thanks to my friend Scott I got to be there to help him photograph it. It was a beautiful day despite a little rain in the morning. It always seems to clear up right before the ceremony and this day was to exception! It was a great outdoor ceremony and perfect for some infrared wedding photography! Check out the pictures!
