It's time to see the unseen flicks.. And besides, it's christmas so watching Ghibli movies would be a great idea...

It’s finally Christmas break…

And I need to something to keep myself away from bed…

Watching other Ghibli movies that I have not seen might be a good idea…

Here’s the list of the Ghibli Movies that I have not yet seen because I thought they are not interesting:

-Porco Rosso

-Ocean Waves

-Pom poko

-My Neighbor the Yamadas

-Tales of the Earthsea

-Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

How can I call myself a Ghibli Maniac when I have not even seen all of their movies…

But I still have to search for sites that stream Ghibli movies… They’re VERY RARE… And I don’t trust torrents…

by Hydro033 Former Electronic Gaming Monthly editor, Shawn Smith, created a line of plush toys calle

by Hydro033

Former Electronic Gaming Monthly editor, Shawn Smith, created a line of plush toys called Shawnimals. One of these Shawnimals is the Wee Ninja (seen above in black). This cool little symmetrical dude eventually spawned his little spin-off universe called Ninjatown. This new little universe eventually developed into one of my all time favorite tower-defense games and one of my all time favorite Nintendo DS games, Ninjatown. Although it looks childish, Ninjatown is one of the most in-depth tower-defense games I have ever played and I’ve been around the block with tower-defense games. I grew up playing Starcraft, which facilitated the creation of tower-defense games. I even made a few of my own custom maps that were tower-defense in style. I love these games and Ninjatown is one of the best out there right now.

Ninjatown starts off with a bang – a volcanic eruption. Mr. Demon (this big brown creature) begins to terrorize Ninjatown in order to steal it’s super secret cookie recipe. You play as Ol’ Master Ninja and you must command the ninjas of Ninjatown via hot air balloon to devise a defense system to stop the devils (the red dudes above) from reaching the other end of the game map. If the devils do reach their destination on the game map, they deduct a life from your total. It’s a standard tower-defense set-up, but the game offers so much more.

You start off with a only two types of ninjas. You use your cookies (the game’s currency) to build ninja huts along the path which the devils follow. You gain cookies as you kill devils. The huts can be upgraded which in turn upgrades the ninjas that are assigned to that hut. Each hut spawns two ninjas of the specific hut type. Eventually you’ll unlock eight different types of ninjas with all different kinds of abilities. Some have splash damage, some throw snowballs to slow the enemy, some shoot arrows, some just punch, etc. There are also modifier huts that can affect adjacent huts to increase the ninja’s patrol range, strength, etc.

There are also more ways to stop devils besides just building ninja huts. As Ol’ Master Ninja, you can use your special abilities to stop the devils. Throughout the game, Ol’ Master Ninja gains more powers (to a total of seven). In order to use these powers, you must use 1/3 or 2/3 of your Hickory Cane meter, which fills when you defeat devils. One such power allows you to push the enemies across the map by blowing into the microphone. This can make the enemies go through your defenses twice, which is a huge advantage in tower-defense games. You also get tokens at the end of each level which can be used to purchase temporary area-of-effect specials that can ultimately save you from defeat.

By far, the best element of Ninjatown is its humor. The game is just downright hilarious. Business ninjas checking their sugar stock? Ninja poopie? Ol’ Master Ninja himself is just downright hysterical. The Mayor Ninja, the Consultant Ninja, and the Zombie Ninjas are all a great addition that provide bursts of laughter. The game made me laugh as much as Portal, which is saying something. The humor is fantastic, bravo to whoever directed the dialogue. The graphics are plain and crisp, which is just fine. The colors are very nice and cutesy, which is also fine as long as you’re not an egotistical, insecure, alpha male (I’m looking at you, Call of Duty players).

The game can get pretty tough and it is a pretty good length as well. You get graded after each map and it’s very tough to get a perfect score on most of the later levels. Ninjatown even has a single-cart multiplayer to boot! So you’re not stuck with single-player all the time, but sadly there is no Wi-Fi. While this game can be enjoyed by all ages, it is still geared towards the hardcore gamer in the fact that it is a true challenge to any tower-defense diehards. I even grew attached to the characters. I felt like going and buying a Wee Ninja plush from Shawnimals, but they’re kind of expensive. Oh well, I’m broke as usual. I have yet to play Lock’s Quest, which is another tower-defense game on the DS that I’ve been meaning to play, but as of right now, Ninjatown is the best of its kind of the DS. It is one of my favorite DS games of all time and possibly one of my favorite games of all time – it is just so damn funny!

1/2 Chez!

Having taken the decision to continue our journey through Africa rather than socialise with the Pakistani Taliban we have been bereft of danger. Foolishly we failed to take into account the fact that we require a diet of danger in order to generate enough vitamin C. Despite munching on several chewy vitamin tablets a day we became rather weak – the only solution; to locate danger whenever and wherever possible.

“Love Blurts”

December 8th, 2009

Better Off Ted came out of nowhere. It was a mid-season comedy on a network that didn’t do comedy, from the creator of a previous comedy that everyone liked but very few people watched. There was nothing inherent in its premise that really drew me in, and while its cast wasn’t bad on paper it didn’t seem like something that I would actively tune in to see on a regular basis.

And then I watched it, and it was one of my favourite new shows of the year.

The show was never even close to a hit, pairing with Scrubs and drawing decent but uneventful ratings. And then, after a surprising renewal, the show’s remaining first season episodes were burned off in the dead of summer to even worse ratings. It was a strange journey through the show, but through it all my love for the show carried me through.

And yet, Better Off Ted returns out of somewhere. It returns with expectations from viewers and critics alike who fell in love with the show, and it also emerges on a network that does do comedy and actually draws quite spectacular ratings for said comedy. As such, the stakes are now significantly higher, and debuting against the Biggest Loser’s finale and airing out of a deflated Scrubs is not going to help matters.

“Love Blurts” is a solid episode of the show that suffers based on these expectations, as I spent much of the episode imagining how the situation the show was presenting would have been better if they had done this, or implemented that, or gone back to past episodes and did what they did there. The show has become its own curse, and it leads to a premiere that kept me at a distance while doing more than enough to remind me why I missed this show and why I will continue to suggest it to anyone and everyone.

If I had to rewrite this episode, I would make one single change: rather than having Ted head off on a story of his own with the bland and uninteresting Danielle, I would instead place Ted where it seemed like the episode was heading towards, trapped between Phil, Lem, Linda and Veronica’s demands. Jay Harrington is not unfunny, but the show is never at its best when he is at the centre of its humour. Sure, making up fake Indian names is funny once, but it felt like the gag just kept going to the point where it wasn’t contributing anything to the episode either comically or in terms of his character. For Ted Crisp to pull a Ted Mosby (saying “I Love You” on the first date) implies that he is in fact crazy, whereas almost every one of the show’s best episodes have been those that teach us (and Ted) that he is there to keep things relatively sane around Veridian Dynamics, and when he becomes a participant (like when he became part of the underground medieval fight club) it becomes awkward. And while it’s fine if the show acknowledges that Ted being weird is weird, here the show seemed to accept that Ted is the one who is crazy, and it wasn’t comically or emotionally interesting enough to really sustain throughout the episode.

It’s clear that Fresco wanted to be able to offer an introduction to all of the characters, and a premise that could effectively involve all of them. As a result, the edible moss project never really went anywhere and the “Wee! Genetic Matchmaking” story was the only bit of Veridianness to be found in the half-hour. And don’t get me wrong, it’s a really fun story idea and had some nice ramifications overall, but it seemed to spread a bit too thin amongst the characters without really bringing them together. I never entirely bought Veronica’s involvement in the story, even though I loved nearly every word that came out of Portia de Rossi’s mouth. And I thought Phil and Lem’s stories were both funny in their own ways, but neither really clicked with their characters in a truly substantial way, and the characters were better when interacting with Ted (which would have happened more often in my own version of the episode). And Linda, although perhaps most comfortable in her spinoff from the central premise of the episode alongside guest star Taye Diggs, is at her best when interacting with Phil/Lem/Veronica, which the episode didn’t allow.

I think it captures just how awkward a position the show was in. For fans of the show, we have certain expectations of what an episode should do, and this episode didn’t necessarily live up to them. However, for new viewers, the show was trying to ease them into its style of storytelling, trying to situate Ted within an emotional spectrum (content but ultimately alone(ly)) and provide a sense of who these characters are and what they represent. For us older viewers, this feels unnecessary, and seems to almost dilute the show’s charm. And, most problematically, for new viewers, the episode doesn’t show the series at its very best, forced to represent everything as opposed to just giving it all up and going whole hog on a particular idea: it could in fact play better for us because of our nostalgia for the characters informing us in ways new viewers wouldn’t have. Heck, as far as I saw, there wasn’t even a fun “Veridian Dynamics” ad during the episode to help draw you into the show’s world, which seems like it runs contradictory to what drew people into the show earlier this year.

Of course, the episode still had a number of great lines, and the wonderful character interaction that was there from the very beginning was on occasion at full force. There is nothing here that convinces me that the show has fundamentally changed, or that it can’t be as good this year as it was last, but rather signs that in its attempt to mediate its way through an awkward re-entry into ABC’s lineup it has made a few compromises too many for it to be operating to its full potential. Hopefully, in the weeks ahead, the show finds its path to comic genius, but in the meantime the show makes me happy just remaining on the air.

Cultural Observations

The plan right now is for Scrubs and Better Off Ted to serve as filler between seasons of Dancing with the Stars, so admittedly the ratings expectations are fairly low: the shows aren’t going to break out, and they really can’t with just 13 episode orders.

However, I was still disappointed the show didn’t try to launch Better Off Ted out of Modern Family (perhaps airing a special Tuesday Cougar Town and creating a Bill Lawrence block) – the two shows aren’t wholly compatible, no, but anything that could give Better Off Ted a boost would be a nice step in the right direction for the show.

Seriously, Portia de Rossi killed this episode: anything to do with Veronica’s sister has become one of my favourite running gags on the show.

Full disclosure: Alan Sepinwall’s review already “spoiled” that the first two episodes aren’t super awesome, so perhaps that coloured my view of “Love Blurts.”

The thorny issue of toilet training has reared its head (or should that be tail?) with an email from

The thorny issue of toilet training has reared its head (or should that be tail?) with an email from Yvonne, who writes:

Do you believe in spanking for toilet training? My 3yo wet her knickers for the second time in a day yesterday and I gave her a smack, but now I feel awful.

Yvonne, I think the one area where I agree with the so-called “experts” is that children shouldn’t be smacked for accidents. But that doesn’t mean a sore bottom doesn’t have its place in toilet training.

For example, a couple of months back, I happened to be passing the bathroom when I heard Nathan inside on the toilet, making his characteristic little grunts. So when he came back downstairs (and especially since it was close to teatime) I asked him whether he had washed his hands after his poo.

He replied “yes mummy”, but from the way his eyes dropped I knew he was lying. So I ordered him to come to me and show me his hands. Reluctantly he did so and one sniff of his bottom-wiping hand was enough to tell me that it hadn’t seen soap and water for some time.

Of course, this was now a spanking offense and when I took down his pants for the smack-bottom I found his bum hadn’t been properly wiped either. So he got a good hiding from me, you may be sure.

So that’s one way in which toilet training and corporal punishment can come together. Another problem I had with both boys, in the early days of “big boy pants” was that they got too engrossed in what they were doing (or too damn lazy) to go for a poo and we occasionally ended up with smelly-bottomed boys as a result, with a smacking soon to follow.

To sum up, I think there are occasions when a spanking is a useful tool in toilet training but like everything, you need to decipher the child’s intentions and behaviour before you bring out the paddle.

Yvonne, for now, I’d put your little girl back into nappies and try again in a few months. It’s not worth a lot of wet pants if she can’t stay dry yet and certainly I wouldn’t smack at this stage.

"Dude, I have a 4.0 at Cannabis College" If you’re like me, chances are you glanced at you

"Dude, I have a 4.0 at Cannabis College"

If you’re like me, chances are you glanced at your calendar today and then did a double take, thinking, “It’s been December for a whole week? How the hell did that happen?” For every student, the pressure is on: finals are fast approaching, and we’ve all got about a million pages to read and two million more to write before we can reach the holy grail of winter break.

All that stress is enough to make a girl want to scream. But if you went to Med Grow Cannabis College, chances are that right about now, you’d be feeling a lot more mellow.

Yes, that’s right: Med Grow Cannabis College. As this article helpfully explains, at MGCC, “marijuana is the curriculum: the history, the horticulture and the legal how-to’s of Michigan’s new medical marijuana program.”

See, the Wolverines’ home state recently legalized medicinal pot, and now 24-year-old Nick Tennant has started a thriving business that teaches wannabe Nancy Botwins how to plant and nurture their very own strain of Mary Jane. Class time can also include a crash course in baking with weed (recipes include “crockpot cannabutter, chocolate canna-ganache and greenies (the cannabis alternative to brownies)”).

Okay, so MGCC isn’t really a school—it’s a six-week program that costs $485 to complete rather than a two- or four-year-long process that ends in a BA. But can you imagine what it would be like if Cannabis College was an actual institute of—if you’ll pardon the pun—higher learning?

Classes at CC might include “Watching Spongebob Squarepants 101,” “How Different Things Feel When You Touch Them,” and “Philosophy”—hey, some things don’t change. Their sports teams, the Fightin’ Stoners, would be supported by an adorable mascot called Jasper the Jumping Joint. The dining hall would stock nothing but Cheetos and those little powdered sugar donuts. Seth Rogen would be the graduation speaker at every single commencement. Instead of finals, CC would just end the semester with a big party that culminated in the entire student body hotboxing the library.

It all sounds kind of magical, at least until I start thinking about what CC attendees might be qualified to do after they graduate. None of the potential careers that come to mind—working at a Taco Bell drive-thru window, operating the bumper cars at a local amusement park, being a philosophy professor—sound particularly appealing to me.

I think that pot is a little bit like creative writing: something that’s fine to do recreationally, but not something you probably want to major in. So Michiganders, feel free to enroll in Cannabis College; I think I’ll stick with good, old-fashioned stress.

okay..it was computer time this afternoon, when i just took a piece of paper and wrote my name then beside i wrote my fav Super Junior member’s name, i wrote Kyuhyun of course..what i didnt know that my friend took it and read it, meanwhile i was busy copying notes XD.. then i just heard them arguing on who’s more handsome Siwon or Donghae , suddenly one of them approached me and said, “can we borrow your Super Junior album (album 3 ver.C) and your Super Junior-M album”, and i gave it to them, i dont know why, i just gave it..nyahaha, the next thing i saw was, they were comparing Donghae and Siwon’s pictures, and i was shocked because the paper was with them, i took it and read it, i never thought they would also write their names with their fav member, i tabulated all, and the majority choose Donghae, Siwon was second, Henry was popular, Yesung and Kangin also got the spots my other classmate got envious and she said loudly “PSSST~*holding Shindong’s pic* this one’s my fav, my idol ~ woot.woot” she totally got everyone’s attention, then the class went crazyy and we were all laffin the whole time.. lucky only me choose Kyuhyun, idontknowwhy i didnt expect Donghae would dominate..gosh ~~ i admit Donghae’s handsome..:) well i wouldnt judge my friends..still ILOVEKYUHYUN ♥

I had the BEST Thanksgiving EVER! Allow me to break it out in bullets:

I slept in (yay for no regular job day!)

I made pancakes for breakfast & watched Fringe (yum!)

I beat New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Thx, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto)

I baked a [spot on] sweet potato casserole for the first time (Holla)

I enjoyed a [drama free] family Thanksgiving dinner (The turkey was jive, fo shno)

I am now watching Abrams’ Star Trek with a happily full, but not overfull, tummy (Heh. Karl Urban)

I have officially decided not to “Black Friday” it tomorrow (Suck it, long lines!)

Best. Day. Ever.

Also, I’ll have you know that even though I (Luigi) defeated an enormous Koopa on my own, ZRose25 (Mario) got the girl and I had to hitch a ride with the Toads. Boo. Tomorrow? An Old Dogs screening with my ‘rents and grand ‘rents and Lego Indiana Jones 2! What wholesome holiday fun…I’ll have to get in some shenanigans to maintain my cred.

This is the summary of everything. I should be done thinking about it. I am done. This is like an ea

This is the summary of everything. I should be done thinking about it. I am done. This is like an early New Year review that I do every year. It was only this time that I wrote about it since I think Word press is interesting . I do New Year’s review every year because I want to see what happened this past year. So here goes…

This 2009 has been the most challenging year I have so far. It was very different from the other years where almost nothing really happened except for 2008 which is one of the happiest year that I had. This 2009 is the year where I feel like I’ve matured, not much, but I know I did…somehow.

This 2009 is my “make or break” year. I have to make it to finals to graduate BS Nursing, which I did. It doesn’t end there because I have to still pass the PNLE to become a registered nurse and thanks to the God, I did.

This is also my heartbreak year, which I supposed every person would have at least once, twice or thrice in their lives. The year where I loved and lost that person. The year of tears, sadness, hopelessness, depression and most of all craziness… ) I know, as shallow and stupid as it sounds, the heartbreak I felt conquered my 2009.

Maybe because it was my first. It was the first time I loved and lost. Like what Boys Like Girls sang in their song “The First One,” The first one is the worst one, when it comes to a broken heart…. haha… it made sense though. I had a lot of realizations actually.

I realized that this is how it feels like to be sad, to be crazy, depressed, happy, alert, smart and focus at the same time. I realized how bitter I could be and its really amazing…haha…to think that I could be that kind of a person, I’m just glad I’m over that stage.

and yeah, I know a lot of things now…

I know now what it feels like to be hurt and to be sad

..how it feels to have someone you cared for so much mad at you

..to miss someone so much and not being able to tell that person because I know, it wouldn’t matter anyway

..to be inadequate, not being able to play the role you have in your life (daughter, person,gf,friend)

..to lose a very important friend

..to let go..

..the feeling of unrequited love, which really hurts, I now can relate to those people

..to have your self esteem crushed by people important in your life, to have your self esteem crushed by yourself

..to be insecure, major big time

..to be a major bum, and the feeling brought about by unemployment

..most importantly though, I now know how to move on and be stronger and to learn to love myself more.

I learned a lot of things actually. But none of it involves turning back on love because, aside from being malandi..haha, I know in myself that I really was happy in my previous relationship. I really felt that I was loved. I knew I was loved. And I’d love to feel that again, I want to love again.. in God’s time, I know I will.

It may not ended great, a misunderstanding may occured just recently but I know, I hope, that after a few years, things will be ok. We will be friends again and we’ll laugh about our emoness and ka-dramahan. I hope. I really would like that.

The upside of this year? I know I grew closer to God. My faith is stronger now. I learned to depend on God and I also learned to accpet God’s will for me. Despite everything, He didn’t gave up on me even though I gave up on myself. Despite all the bad things that happened, He was there for me and I know, He will always be. My rock, My friend, My God — the one God who would continue to love me even when others would not. The one and only. My personal matchmaker…

Also, I realized the value of my friends more. I now know who my true friends are. Those people who would be there for me without me asking for them. Those people whom I can depend on through good times and bad times. Those people I know I owe my sanity to. I have my friends, reunited with old friends and met new ones. I know that even though as time goes, we may part ways, but I have faith in the friendship that we had that it will always be there. I can always find a friend in you guys. You all know who you are. I owe you a lot.

And to you, Thank you for the things you taught me as well, before, during and after the relationship. It made me a lot stronger than before. I’m sorry if I wasn’t able to control my emotions enough so as not to bother, disturb, offend or hurt you. As promised, I will set you free and I’ll let you be. I wish you the best and happiness in your career, life, lovelife, medlife or whatever path you choose… You deserve it…

wee… now, I am so looking forward to next year! A new year full of opportunities!

God, make me a good nurse so I can make my parents proud of me and so I can make you proud also. I love you Lord! sobra, sobra…

—leaving the bitterness, hurts, sadness, longing behind. Keeping the hope, love and my faith…—

Advance happy new year!! =)

The pee bale then gets added to the composter every now and then as an accelerator to speed the process up.

Urine has for a long time been master composters’ secret weapon – it really does work. But if you’d rather not, have a look at some organic compost maker (accelerator) or Bokashi Bran instead!
