This week’s essay is posted: Write For Yourself and Celebrate Writing!

An excerpt:

*******************
“Why do writers write? Because it isn’t there.” ~~Thomas Berger

Thanksgiving, for those of us in America, has grown and evolved like most holidays. It all began when the Pilgrim’s celebrated a bountiful harvest with the Indians whose assistance made their survival possible. These days, families gather together to bond over generous servings of turkey (or Tofurki), endless hours of football and parades, and tasty bites of pumpkin pie. Yet tucked within the basting and the touchdowns is the root of an idea.

Thankfulness.

Being thankful for our family and friends, for prosperity and health, and for life itself. Now, let me add one more item to the list, Thankfulness for our innate creativity. Is there anything quite like the joy of being a writer? Penning marvelous adventures and exploring the journey of our characters, all within the cozy pages of a delicious novel. Yum-yum. Being a writer means having the power to create worlds. Wow. Could there be a bigger thrill?

“One nice thing about putting the thing away for a couple of months before looking at it is that you start to appreciate your own wit. Of course, this can be carried too far. But it’s kind of cool when you crack up a piece of writing, and then realize you wrote it. I recommend this feeling.” ~~Steven Brust
**************************
Ready for some motivation?

Jump to The Write Soul: www.chironokeefe.blogspot.com for the complete essay.

Keep writing, everyone!

–Chiron O’Keefe

I’m taking a vacation break! Monday’s Motivation will be posted as usual but I will not be able to send out these reminders next week. If add The Write Soul to your blog list, the new posts will show up in your Blogger Dashboard. Have a great holiday!

Last week, I began a once a week special, promising to post simple recipes with a Southwestern flair

Last week, I began a once a week special, promising to post simple recipes with a Southwestern flair for the holiday season. This is Week 2 in the installment and I’ve dropped by with an succulent Brisket Recipe, which is available in my cookbook I Can’t Cook Because I’m a White Girl. When this brisket is baking away, the entire house is filled with the most delicious aromas, promised to bring the family running!

The cookbook, as well as many others, are available at Amazon during the holiday season!

Brisket

1 10 – 15 lb Brisket

3 large onions, sliced

1 bunch of fresh cilantro, chopped (save half for serving)

1 16 oz bottle of Claude’s Brisket Sauce (see note at end of recipe)

5 whole jalepeno peppers

2 tablespoons of salt

Rinse and lightly score the fat side of the brisket. Place the fat side of the brisket down in a covered roaster. Salt and cover the meat with the onions and the whole jalepenos. Top with half of chopped cilantro. Shake the bottle of Claude’s Brisket Sauce well to incorporate the spices. Pour over the meat. (You may have to add a bit of water to the bottle to get the last of the spices always stuck at the bottom!)

Let the brisket sit, refrigerated and covered, overnight. The next morning, in a 300 degree oven, bake the marinated brisket (covered) for 8-10 hours. Baste occasionally to keep the meat moist.

After the 8 to 10 hours, remove brisket from oven. Let sit for 15 minutes before moving to a serving tray. Cut off all the fat and shred the meat with two forks.

Sprinkle with remaining cilantro, the roasting juices and serve!

**Claude’s Brisket Marinade Sauce is bottled and distributed by Claude’s Sauce, Inc. 935 Loma Verde, El Paso, Texas 79936.

I noticed my hack on a Saturday. I was hacked 7 days before that. I set up a ticket to the GM’s on Saturday, that night I had an email stating that they had to reserach the issue and would get back to me. Monday I received an email saying that they were restoring my account and they listed exactly what was being restored.

After all that I just wanted to say Hooray for Blizzard.

I’ve heard about expereinces people have had that haven’t turned out good and ones that took too long to get a response. I’m glad that even though Blizzard has its faults, customer service being one of them (so I’ve heard), it still came through for me. I didn’t get everything back. I noticed one thing I was looking for particularly was an epic shield I had picked up for my Paladin in a dungeon, but hey, with the amount of goods and all the funds returned I’m not going to be picky. They could have said sorry…we can’t return anything.

During one of my teenage birthdays, my mom helped me throw a tea party for my friends. My friends and I got all dolled up in summery dresses and funny hats, and it was a blast!

In planning, we tried to make it as fancy as possible, with all of the little candies and pastries and everything. We had several different fancy little finger sandwiches that we put out. Here’s a scale-up of one of those mini sandwiches that works really well as an everyday lunch.

YOU’LL NEED

plain, boring white bread (I got the cheap kind, but the whole grain white would probably be a better option.)

a cucumber

green onions/chives

spreadable cream cheese

Step 1: Chop the chives!

Step 2: In order to make the spread for this sandwich, you will need to stir the chives into the cream cheese. The degree of onioniness is totally in your hands; I like a lot of flavor, so I tend to add quite a few. It’s up to you.

Step 3: Spread away.

Step 4: Chop the cucumber and place the slices on your sandwich!

Step 5: EAT IT. Mmm!

Hey Unique ones, Biggups to everybody that came out and partied with us last week!! It was bananas..

Hey Unique ones,

Biggups to everybody that came out and partied with us last week!! It was bananas..MIXMASTER NOAH and EZENTRIC (Blu Monkey, Jointz) rocked the house with some really sweet selections!! A beautiful crowd!! The Soul Train line was the apex for me (we still have the pics!!)

However, due to unforseen circumstances and lack of support/long-term vision (special thanks to the powers that be at CODA).. Mixmaster Noah and yours truly will NO LONGER be doing our weekly Wednesday event “In The Red” at CODA in SHERMAN OAKS. Firstly, we want to THANK EVERYBODY that supported our event. It is a well-known fact that it’s NOT easy throwing a consistent weekly ..especially on a Wednesday nite (in the Valley at that..unless its OPEN BAR.. We went into it knowing that Wednesday was going to be an uphill battle from jump but a long term gain in giving our niche fan base something UNIQUE rather than run of the mill). We want to thank the STAFF of CODA (major props to Kori and Shane) who helped us get the nite up and running in addition to understanding the LONG TERM vision than a “quick fix” event with train wreck Dj’s who just bought Serato yesterday sporting a glitter shirt/Ed Hardy baseball hat. To make it clear, we were growing and finally gaining the numbers (as predicted, thanks to our HARD WORK+TIME invested day in and day out) but the powers that be did not see eye to eye with us on the long-term vision and would prefer a “typical” party with the “glitter shirt” who can pull out these imaginary magic numbers (sorry “Gucci Bandana”/”Pour Some Sugar On Me” mash ups are NOT in my crate..). It is what it is…. As a result, WE decided to pull the plug on the event.

Noah and myself will continue to collaborate on events in the near future..be on the look out!!

Lastly, im up to my ears doing our HOT weekly party STEREOLOVE/GOLDEN STEREO and my weekend residency at BLU MONKEY + private gigs, new mixes & tracks , gearing up for Unique74 releases in January 2010 (look out EUROPE & JAPAN!! im BOOKING NOW as we speak!!)..my work is cut out for the kid..

One Love,
A-Ski

PS: Just an FYI..STEREOLOVE this week @ LITTLE TEMPLE (Thursdays) will be closed due to the Thanksgiving Holiday..we’ll be taking a break but will be back next week!! Much Love to everybody that came out last week!!

This weekend im spinning at ZANZIBAR (5th St Housequake) on SUNDAY w/BREEZY LOVE JOY LIVE!! ..stay tuned!

Happy Gobble Gobble Day!!

A year ago I wanted to be a doctor. Eight months ago I wished to be a lawyer, and five months ago I longed to work as an advertisement agent. (Now I have no clue). But the latter was due to the fact that while watching my daily t.v. shows I was so shocked at how, not only, stupid and annoying commercials are now a days, but how poorly they promote their products. They were so bad that I decided coming up with decent advertisement campaigns would be an easy feat and therefore a good career choice.
Though I have swayed away from this career goal (for what reason I’m not sure) I still detest them so much I’m going to start posting the worst of them on my blog. I’m going to begin by doing it weekly, but they’re are so many rotten ones out there I might have to change to bi-weekly intervals.

Hope you enjoy them…eer hate them as much I do.

Hello Friends! This week’s Motivational Essay is posted, Embracing the “No Way” Factor. Here’s an ex

Hello Friends!

This week’s Motivational Essay is posted, Embracing the “No Way” Factor.

Here’s an excerpt:
*********************************************
“Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away… Now it looks as though they’re here to stay. Oh, I believe in yesterday…” (Lennon/McCartney)

With all due respect to Paul McCartney, I prefer to believe in Today. Even better, I want to believe in Tomorrow. Every word I type in the present is transported into a magical future, which is still yet a dream. The essay I’m
composing will be read tomorrow or Monday or maybe next Friday. A new WIP will take months to finish and weeks more to edit. We can forget in the tedium of the effort involved how miraculous tomorrow can and will be, especially if we lose sight of the magic in our words. There’s something to be said for introducing Optimism to Risk-Taking and discovering how amazing this collaboration can be.

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” –André Gide

Every writer goes through it. A manic-depressive swing depending on where the story is at. When we’re in the zone, the words fly, the ideas are so thick they infiltrate our dreams and we can’t type fast enough. When we’re stuck with a
plot point or drowning with too many choices, we can unfortunately be quite unbearable. My favorite image (which I’m embarrassed to say is only slightly exaggerated) is of me dashing through the house, hands waving in the air, while I shriek, “I’m a hack!”

Ups and downs. Highs and lows. Welcome to the wonderful world of writing.

“You can do anything you think you can. This knowledge is literally the gift of the gods, for through it you can solve every human problem. It should make of you an incurable optimist. It is the open door.” –Robert Collier
***************************************************
Jump to The Write Soul: www.chironokeefe.blogspot.com for the complete essay!

Wishing us all a productive and inspired week. Keep writing!

Special Meeting a Success

Travelers Rest tour guide Maria shares with us about the History in our own backyard.

Great food, great fellowship, and living history. And the weather could not have been better.
After one week of a cold snap that saw tempatures dipping below 10, we had a great clear day in the 50.s.
Lunch was held at the Holt Heritage Museum.

If you have never visited the Museum, it is really special. The Holt collection includes many great items that Bill and Ramona have collected from all their married lives. Items include special items from a 35 year involvement in professional rodeo, Bill as an announcer and Ramona as a contestant and a secretary.

Some of what we got to view was several pieces of our area history. Stevensville was the first established settlement in Montana, the first sawmill, the first Church, etc., and that story is told. A territorial land office contains original Missoula County and Missoula City books. Also, a replica of an old Saloon is furnished with an antique back bar cooler, soda fountain and slab bar top.

Lunch was prepared by Ramona. Chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beens and apple crisp with, of coarse, apples from the Bitterroot valley! YUM!

Next we enjoyed a special presentation at the Travelers Rest Historical Site. A special presentation about the history of the only site with archeological evidence of Lewis and Clark camping there was given by a tour guide working at the center.

Traveler’s Rest State Park marks the location of a centuries-old Native American campsite which Lewis and Clark’s used in 1805 and 1806. They called the nearby creek “Travelers Rest.” In Summer 2002, archeologists found evidence of the Corps of Discovery’s latrine and central fire, positioning the Park as one of the few sites in the nation with physical confirmation of the group’s visit–a truly unique designation.

Check out the Native American collection which includes bead work, clothing and more. There is also a classic old western street scene complete with an old western Church.

Since its creation in 2001, the Park is managed by Travelers’ Rest Preservation and Heritage Association, a nonprofit organization.

Our Host, Bill Holt, giving a tour of his personal collection

The afternoon concluded with a self guided tour of the Lewis and Clark campsite. The only thing that could upstage that meeting was the meeting that happened at that location over 200 years ago.

Thank you Bill and Ramona Holt and the staff of the Travelers’ Rest for a wonderful afternoon!
