Hey all! We have good news for all of you Comet readers! From now on you will no longer have to wait an entire month for a new issue of the Comet. Starting tomorrow, the Comet will be published weekly! Every week, we will post that week’s Fan Art, Comic, and Writing contest winners as well as showcase the top work from our soon-to-be reporters! Each edition of the Comet will feature the best of the best in Fantage news writing, so be sure to work hard on those articles once you become a reporter!

Attention job seeking Fantagians!  Starting Friday, Fantage will be hiring news reporters to cover interesting news and events around Fantage! On Friday, there will be a NEW building on Mt. Fantage called Comet & Co. and they need your help! Go there to take the test to become a reporter. Pass the test and you will receive your reporter’s camera which will be available for pick-up on Monday.

Each month, reporters will receive 4 different themes that they will be assigned to cover. Reporters will take a snapshot of an interesting event that matches the theme and then write a short blurb describing the action. Don’t worry about having the equipment for this task, we will provide everything for you! Those who write the best reports will have their work featured in the new weekly Comet.For each submission, you will be paid in StarS!

I took it, and I passed!  I can’t tell you the answers, because it’s really to show if you understand what it is like to be a reporter!

A year ago I wanted to be a doctor. Eight months ago I wished to be a lawyer, and five months ago I longed to work as an advertisement agent. (Now I have no clue). But the latter was due to the fact that while watching my daily t.v. shows I was so shocked at how, not only, stupid and annoying commercials are now a days, but how poorly they promote their products. They were so bad that I decided coming up with decent advertisement campaigns would be an easy feat and therefore a good career choice.
Though I have swayed away from this career goal (for what reason I’m not sure) I still detest them so much I’m going to start posting the worst of them on my blog. I’m going to begin by doing it weekly, but they’re are so many rotten ones out there I might have to change to bi-weekly intervals.

Hope you enjoy them…eer hate them as much I do.

P.S.  Yes, I know I have been gone, yet again, and for a long time!  We are taking on many new projects at home, and in life in general.  I just started a new job.  And, we are house hunting.  Yup, house hunting.  But, I am going to try to post more often again and will keep you all updated on the house search…

With all due respect to Paul McCartney, I prefer to believe in Today. Even better, I want to believe in Tomorrow. Every word I type in the present is transported into a magical future, which is still yet a dream. The essay I’m
composing will be read tomorrow or Monday or maybe next Friday. A new WIP will take months to finish and weeks more to edit. We can forget in the tedium of the effort involved how miraculous tomorrow can and will be, especially if we lose sight of the magic in our words. There’s something to be said for introducing Optimism to Risk-Taking and discovering how amazing this collaboration can be.

Every writer goes through it. A manic-depressive swing depending on where the story is at. When we’re in the zone, the words fly, the ideas are so thick they infiltrate our dreams and we can’t type fast enough. When we’re stuck with a
plot point or drowning with too many choices, we can unfortunately be quite unbearable. My favorite image (which I’m embarrassed to say is only slightly exaggerated) is of me dashing through the house, hands waving in the air, while I shriek, “I’m a hack!”

Ups and downs. Highs and lows. Welcome to the wonderful world of writing.

Special Meeting a Success

Travelers Rest tour guide Maria shares with us about the History in our own backyard.

Great food, great fellowship, and living history. And the weather could not have been better.
After one week of a cold snap that saw tempatures dipping below 10, we had a great clear day in the 50.s.
Lunch was held at the Holt Heritage Museum.

If you have never visited the Museum, it is really special. The Holt collection includes many great items that Bill and Ramona have collected from all their married lives. Items include special items from a 35 year involvement in professional rodeo, Bill as an announcer and Ramona as a contestant and a secretary.

Some of what we got to view was several pieces of our area history. Stevensville was the first established settlement in Montana, the first sawmill, the first Church, etc., and that story is told. A territorial land office contains original Missoula County and Missoula City books. Also, a replica of an old Saloon is furnished with an antique back bar cooler, soda fountain and slab bar top.

Lunch was prepared by Ramona. Chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beens and apple crisp with, of coarse, apples from the Bitterroot valley!  YUM!

Next we enjoyed a special presentation at the Travelers Rest Historical Site. A special presentation about the history of the only site with archeological evidence of Lewis and Clark camping there was given by a tour guide working at the center.

Traveler’s Rest State Park marks the location of a centuries-old Native American campsite which Lewis and Clark’s used in 1805 and 1806. They called the nearby creek “Travelers Rest.” In Summer 2002, archeologists found evidence of the Corps of Discovery’s latrine and central fire, positioning the Park as one of the few sites in the nation with physical confirmation of the group’s visit–a truly unique designation.

Check out the Native American collection which includes bead work, clothing and more. There is also a classic old western street scene complete with an old western Church.

Since its creation in 2001, the Park is managed by Travelers’ Rest Preservation and Heritage Association, a nonprofit organization.

The afternoon concluded with a self guided tour of the Lewis and Clark campsite. The only thing that could upstage that meeting was the meeting that happened at that location over 200 years ago.
